AVKRVST Share New Single “The Trauma” from Upcoming Album ‘Waving at the Sky’ Out Soon

0

After the announcement and pre-order start of their sophomore album “Waving at the Sky” and the release of their first single “The Malevolent” featuring Ross Jennings from Haken, Norwegian prog rockers AVKRVST reveal their second offering – “The Trauma”.

Simon Bergseth, vocalist, shares “‘The Trauma’ is the heart of the story— the origin of everything. A harrowing act triggered a wound that never should have been inflicted. This is where it all begins.“

The single comes with a brand-new music video in established AVKRVST aesthetics – a continuation of the story of the lonely, bleak soul in the cabin. Watch the video here:

“The Approbation” was praised by critics for its ambitious, immersive storytelling and its musical complexity. It was regarded as one of the best genre debuts in years, and it showcased AVKRVST as a top-tier newcomer in progressive music. Now, “Waving at the Sky” takes everything that was compelling about “The Approbation” and pushes it further towards progressive perfection. A dark and devastating concept record about real life events, it is a spiritual successor to its predecessor, and a huge leap forward on every conceivable level.

Story-wise, “Waving at the Sky” is the prequel to “The Approbation”. The 7 news tracks are inspired by a gruesome family tragedy and the bleak soul from the debut, showcased as the lonely man in the cabin in previous music videos, is one of the characters in the new album.

Tracklist “Waving at the Sky”:
1. Preceding (03:14)
2. The Trauma (05:17)
3. Families are Forever (07:49)

Katatonia Unveil “Temporal” from New Album ‘Nightmares as Extensions of the Waking State’ Out June 6

Swedish masters of melancholic metal, KATATONIA, have unveiled the second new single from their upcoming album, Nightmares as Extensions of the Waking State, out June 6, 2025 via Napalm Records! ”Temporal” balances fragility and strength – its intense verses culminating in a soaring, emotionally charged chorus. The track arrives with a beautiful lyric video.

Even after more than 30 years, KATATONIA continues to redefine the emotional spectrum of the genre, effortlessly shifting between haunting vulnerability and commanding artistry. KATATONIA’s music is pure and heartfelt from the northern wilderness; cast in mournful dirges for a world that needs a renaissance. Secure your copy of Nightmares as Extensions of the Waking State now and check out the lyric video for ”Temporal” below.

Jonas Renkse comments, ”Temporal, when the enchantment is gone. When riffing is on, the combination offers no solace other than the pleasure of the vicious circle & the colours of the night. Enjoy.”

On Nightmares as Extensions of the Waking State, crystal-clear production highlights the interplay between silence and intensity, while the contrast of heavy riffs, delicate guitar harmonies, ethereal synthesizers, and atmospheric nuances create captivating tension. Tracks like “Thrice” and “Warden” pulse with dynamic energy, a near-ceremonial piece, “Wind of No Change”, merges subtle electronic textures with KATATONIA’s enigmatic soundscapes, while “Temporal” balances fragility and strength – its intense verses culminating in a soaring, emotionally charged chorus. The breathtaking “Efter Solen” (Engl. After the Sun), featuring Swedish lyrics, evokes echoes of Jonas Eika’s 2018 short story collection, with minimalistic yet striking instrumentation.

A-Z Share New Single “I Am Numb” Ahead of Sophomore Album ‘A2Z2’ Out June 6

0

Hard rock band A-Z recently announced their return and sophomore album ‘A2Z2‘ with the powerful single “Nothing Is Over.” Now, the band are pleased to share the track “I Am Numb,” the second single from the forthcoming full-length release, which is due out on June 6th, 2025 via Metal Blade Records.

“I am Numb’ is an aggressive, in-your-face exploration of the emotional detachment most humans experience in life. The somber moniker is highlighted with an undeniable chorus hook and is balanced with hope and the promise tomorrow holds. Sonically, the track features energy like Rainbow’s “Kill the King” with full-throttle riffs and post-rock effected long notes, which allow the drums to be exceptionally creative. The counter rhythms bring the listener on a whirlwind journey.

Check out the track here:

The band known as A-Z began when Zonder started working on material in early 2020 with a clear vision for the band he wanted to put together: “I was thinking beer commercials, car commercials and Cobra Kai. I wanted a very accessible band that would appeal to the masses,” he says. The band’s name—standing for Alder thru Zonder—was an easy choice that would never pigeonhole the lineup’s sound. “What I liked is that it did not limit what someone would think of the band,” says Zonder. “If we named the band Scary Serpent it would give a certain direction and didn’t want people to prejudge us.”

The band members are legendarily prolific, which allows for an amazing dynamic where, as Zonder explains, “when you find the right guys, you just let them do whatever they want. Everybody’s a seasoned pro and all the different ingredients come together, make it what it is. That live and recording experience allows A-Z to instinctively know how not to step on each other musically.”

“We’re all about the songs, the band, not what each of us does in it. It’s simple,” they all agree. “It’s about the music as a whole,” says Zonder, “I guarantee you everybody’s into something completely different musically, and that’s where the magic to me comes from, taking different influences and everybody doing what they do to create A-Z. We’re not 20-year-old kids. We’re at the point where if you’re gonna go, just go big. And that’s what we’ve done on A2Z2.”

A2Z2 Tracklist:

1. Fire Away 4:37
2. Running in Place 4:58
3. Nothing is Over 4:18
4. A Wordless Prison 6:04
5. Reaching Out 4:16
6. The Remedy 5:06
7. I Am Numb 4:03
8. This Chaotic Symphony 5:10
9. Learning to Fly 4:38
10. Now I Walk Away 5:39

From Koi Ponds to Color-Coordinated Confetti: 30 Fascinating Tour Rider Requests in Music History

Before the lights go up and the crowd roars to life, there’s one backstage tradition that quietly sets the tone for the night: the tour rider. Think of it as the artist’s comfort blueprint—a list of personal requests that help performers feel at home, focused, and ready to give their all. Some riders include practical needs like specific lighting or food for dietary reasons, while others serve a deeper purpose. Van Halen’s famously strict “no brown M&Ms” clause, for example, wasn’t just a quirky demand—it was a clever way to ensure the venue was paying attention to every detail, including the critical ones related to stage safety.

But tour riders aren’t always about practicality. Sometimes they’re about vibe. They give artists a bit of familiarity in a different city every night, or even a sense of play. And occasionally, they offer fans a peek into the wonderful, weird worlds of their favorite stars. Here are 30 of the most fascinating, creative, and memorable rider requests from music history:

AC/DC
Known for their wild rock image, AC/DC’s rider asked for no alcohol in their dressing rooms during their 2008 U.S. tour. Instead, they preferred an assortment of English cheeses, crackers, and fun-sized candy bars.

Beyoncé
Beyoncé asks for her dressing room to be kept at a comfortable 78 degrees and that she be provided with hand-carved ice balls for her drinks. Her crew must wear only cotton clothing to avoid allergic reactions.

Britney Spears
When performing at the O2 in London in 2011, Britney requested a framed photo of Princess Diana, McDonald’s cheeseburgers without the buns, and a fish and chips dinner.

Bruce Springsteen
Bruce’s tour rider includes two bags of Rold Gold pretzels and chicken soup with lots of broth. He also asks for a massage therapist and a manicurist capable of doing acrylic nails.

Cher
Cher’s rider includes a dedicated wig room, black solo cups, fresh lilies, and a very specific request that her pizza be perfectly hot and served exactly on time.

Deadmau5
The electronic music producer asks for one inflatable animal of at least 5 feet in height to be fully inflated and waiting in his dressing room.

Drake
Drake’s rider includes Dr. Bronner’s peppermint soap, Pinot Grigio, pork-free meals, Dutch Master cigars, and Andis T-Outliner trimmers. He also brings his own speakers to make sure he gets the right vibe.

Eminem
At a festival in Northern Ireland, Eminem requested that a wooden koi pond be built backstage and stocked with exotic fish. He also asked for seedless watermelon and pickles.

Foo Fighters
Their rider has included jokes and drawings, such as a coloring book theme with a word search. They also requested ice recipes and asked that leftover food be donated to local shelters.

Gnarls Barkley
Their list included Swisher Sweets, Hennessy, Grey Goose, and athletic socks.

Hank Williams III
His rider once asked for a monkey, a half-gallon of milk, mustard and ketchup in squeezable bottles, cereal, Oreos, and a great white shark.

Iggy Pop
Iggy’s rider famously asked for a Bob Hope impersonator, 12 bottles of nice beer, enormous pizzas, playing cards, and “a USA Today article about obese people.”

Jack White
Jack once provided a guacamole recipe with specific slicing instructions. His rider included no bananas, a vintage-style couch, and specific temperature controls.

James Brown
At one point, the Godfather of Soul requested a ladies’ hair dryer.

Jay-Z
Jay-Z’s rider included a late model Maybach with tinted windows, peanut butter and jelly, and a selection of wines from the Bolgheri region of Italy.

Kanye West
Kanye asked for a barber’s chair, Carmex lip balm, and a driver who wears only 100% cotton. He’s also been known to request Versace towels.

Katy Perry
She requires that drivers do not talk to her and keep their eyes on the road. Her flowers must include no carnations, and her room must have pink or beige drapes.

Led Zeppelin
Zeppelin reportedly asked for ironing boards and irons at every venue. Whether they were for clothes or something else remains a mystery.

Lil Wayne
Weezy asked for a private jet, a police escort, and a hotel within a short distance from the venue. His snacks of choice include potato chips and Gatorade.

Mariah Carey
Mariah requested 20 white kittens and 100 doves for a London appearance. She also likes her dressing rooms to be decorated in pink and her toilet paper to match.

Metallica
The band loves bacon—so much that it must be available at every meal. They also require private bathrooms with dimmable lights and ask for their vegetarian crew members to be accommodated too.

Mick Jagger
Mick requests a brand-new mattress in every hotel room, but it must be slept on by someone else first—while the plastic wrapping stays on—to “break it in.”

M.I.A.
She requested female extras at every stop, who would join her onstage wearing burkas. She also asked for dried blueberries, olives, and Ketel One vodka.

Morrissey
Morrissey asked for a sapling between four and six feet tall in his dressing room on tour, reflecting his commitment to greenery and his vegan lifestyle.

Motley Crue
The Crue has asked for a boa constrictor, a sub-machine gun, creamy peanut butter, and a list of local Alcoholics Anonymous meetings in case the night took a turn.

Ozzy Osbourne
Ozzy once requested a nose, ear, and throat doctor, as well as three tanks of oxygen backstage. His focus was on staying healthy during the show.

Paul McCartney
Paul’s rider requires no leather or faux leather furniture, and all backstage food must be vegetarian. He also requests leafy plants of specific heights.

Pharrell Williams
Pharrell once asked for belly dancers and crates of vodka and champagne. His rider included Perrier Jouet Belle Epoque and Bacardi rum for his guests.

Prince
Prince demanded that all items in his dressing room be covered in clear plastic wrap until he arrived. It was “absolutely necessary.”

Slayer
They once requested 100 goats for halal slaughter, yoga ball chairs, Go-Gurt, scented markers, and blood-proof umbrellas.

Steve Aoki
Aoki’s rider includes two medium cakes labeled “DIM MAK,” confetti cannons, and a dinghy boat. He’s also asked for coconut water, Cristal, and inflatable rafts.

Van Halen
They famously asked for M&Ms with all the brown ones removed—not out of vanity, but to make sure the promoter had read the full safety and stage specs in the contract.

Phase Transition Set to Release Debut Album ‘In Search of Being’ on June 6

0

With a number of singles released over the past few months, progressive metal trio Phase Transition, are finally closer to releasing their forthcoming debut album, In Search of Being, on June 6th, 2025.

Prior to the album’s release, the band has one more song to share, “The Other Side,”, a song about the mysteries of death and the perception of mortality.

The track features Ricardo Pereira from the melodic death metal band Moonshade and offers a perfect blend of melodic female vocals and guttural male vocals, along with powerful guitar, violin, and drum solos. It all comes together in an epic, catchy chorus and delivers a densely melodic yet heavy and groovy take on progressive metal.

You can listen to the song here:

3.Veil of Illusions

Writing for the album started in 2023 when guitarist Luís Dias was in Barcelona for a while. The band worked on the music remotely which took about a year and a half to lay down, then another six months to produce and record everything. The final production, mixing, and mastering was done with the help of former Anathema member Daniel Cardoso, at Öhme Studio.

Sofia Beco, Luís Dias, and Fernando Maia began playing while at university, in the middle of their studies for exams, with Dream Theater covers. While trying to pass their courses, they managed to release their first EP called “Relatively Speaking”, in 2020. Since then, they have been playing in several venues like HardClub and festivals such as Comendatio Music Fest. The band combines influences ranging from classical music to technical progressive metal, as a result of the eclectic backgrounds of the members.

Big Big Train Announce New Live Album ‘Are We Nearly There Yet?’ Out September 19

0

Big Big Train will issue a new live album Are We Nearly There Yet? on September 19th, 2025. Sub-titled Live Around The World, the album collects together a series of performances recorded in 2024 and 2025 on the band’s tours, which visited the UK, USA, Canada, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, Norway, Denmark and Portugal as well as co-headlining Cruise To The Edge in both years. The album has been compiled by bassist Gregory Spawton and lead vocalist Alberto Bravin.

“Apart from Summer Shall Not Fade, which captured our show headlining the 2018 Night Of The Prog festival in Germany, our previous live albums have been based around shows in London,” drummer Nick D’Virgilio explains. “Having spread our touring wings internationally much more in the last few years, we wanted to mix it up and release a live album drawn from the almost 40 shows we’ve played around the world since March 2024.”

“While our engineer Rob Aubrey will be spending the coming months taking the lead mixing our next studio album, mixing has fallen to me for Are We Nearly There Yet?“, Alberto Bravin comments. “It’s been really interesting to go back through all the performances and choose what we thought were the most appropriate ones to include on this live release. That doesn’t always mean the best technical performance – sometimes a song had a unique vibe on a particular night which we wanted to celebrate.”

The first song to be made available from Are We Nearly There Yet? is Black With Ink, recorded in London in October 2024. “Black With Ink didn’t get massive attention when we originally released it on the Common Ground album in 2021,” guitarist/keyboardist Rikard Sjöblom says. “I always thought it could be a kick ass tune live and that’s exactly how it turned out. Back when we originally recorded the song, it was David Longdon’s idea that the lead vocals should be shared around the band and on tour it has been real fun for me, Nick, Clare Lindley and Oskar Holldorff each to get to sing a verse.”

Are We Nearly There Yet? will be released via Big Big Train’s own label English Electric Recordings on 2CD and 3LP housed in a gatefold sleeve, via Bandcamp high resolution download and streaming. The 3LP version of the album will be available as limited edition 180 gram transparent violet vinyl (exclusive to Burning Shed and The Bandwagon USA) and 180 gram black vinyl. Pre-orders will be accompanied by a signed Are We Nearly There Yet? art card.

Jakko M. Jakszyk Announces New Album ‘Son Of Glen’ Out June 27

0

Jakko M. Jakszyk, perhaps most recently known as lead singer and second guitarist in King Crimson, is proud to announce his new solo album ‘Son Of Glen’ – set for release on June 27th, 2025. The record is a companion piece of sorts to his acclaimed memoir ‘Who’s The Boy With The Lovely Hair’, that was released in October 2024, and explores many of the themes and the subjects that the book touches upon.

To coincide with this announcement, you can now hear the stunning 10-minute long title track here:

A specially commissioned video for Son Of Glen, will be premiered on the 2nd May. Look out for more information on that soon.

Jakko comments: “A romantic fantasy narrative based on what I discovered about my real father after decades of fruitless searching for him.
Glen Tripp was a US airman based in the UK who fell for a dark-haired Irish singer. And here I was many, many years later repeating what he had done by falling for another. What if he had been watching me and guiding me from ‘afar’?”

Jakko’s remarkable songcraft is evident on ‘Son Of Glen’, as his elegiac lyric muses on our fixation with nostalgia and the human condition, and yet where great songwriting, pathos and poetry would be enough to satiate most listeners, let us not forget that Jakko is (somewhat enviably) also a phenomenal guitarist, exceptional singer and multi-instrumentalist, whose precision production and skill for crafting glorious spatial soundscapes takes his arsenal of talents and skills, to a place where it’s more than justified to say, there is no one else quite like Jakko, doing everything that he does, with the proficiency he does it.

‘Son Of Glen’ will be available as a Limited CD Digipak, Gatefold LP & as Digital Album. The full tracklist is below:

1. Ode To Ballina 02:11
2. Somewhere Between Then And Now 07:41
3. How Did I Let You Get So Old? 05:58
4. This Kiss Never Lies 07:06
5. Ode To Ballina (Reprise) 02:11
6. I Told You So 05:41
7. (Get A) Proper Job 01:37
8. Son Of Glen 10:18

Listen & pre-order now here: https://jakkomjakszyk.lnk.to/SonOfGlen-Album

Despite being seemingly the last person to recognise this: Jakko stands in a league of his own.
This in itself, we can muse upon, could well be the manifestation of an unwanted child who felt they had everything to prove. A core theme of his book, a theme many people themselves can relate to in some capacity.

Whether emotional hardship has driven Jakko to the place where ‘Son Of Glen’ has culminated, or simply a need to reach out to the spectre of his late Father, it gives credence to the romantic notion that one’s best art is produced from periods of struggle. ‘Son Of Glen’ is undeniably Jakko M. Jakszyk’s triumph, which succinctly showcases an extraordinary life and career of an unparalleled musician, producer and songwriter.

The album also features appearances by drummer’s Gavin Harrison (King Crimson/Porcupine Tree) and Ian Mosley (Marillion), cellist Caroline Lavelle, Louise Patricia Crane on vocals and Jakko’s son Django on bass guitar.

Voyager Return With New Single “Seen Better Days” After Danny Estrin’s Cancer Battle

0

Renowned for their signature blend of uplifting yet melancholic progressive pop metal, Australia’s national treasures Voyager have returned after an unplanned hiatus. In a turbulent twist of events following the band’s post-Eurovision success, the upwards trajectory of the band took an unexpected downturn in September 2023, with vocalist Danny Estrin being diagnosed with stage 4 cancer.

Having undergone a significant amount of treatment since then, the future of Voyager was always uncertain. The band cancelled all international touring plans, and for a while it was uncertain if Danny would even be able to sing again. The sense of universal devastation felt for Danny and the band was palpable, and the outpouring of love and support from Voyager’s longtime and newfound fans provided solace in challenging times.

Now, Voyager return, with new single ‘Seen Better Days’.

‘Seen Better Days’ is a song borne out of the adversity that Danny and the band have faced these past 18 months, and it breathes new life and a new outlook for the band, whose strength and determination knows no bounds. Nobody knows what the future holds, but the present holds new music, and this song is a powerful reminder of the vulnerability of life.

Danny says this about the song, “Difficult times yield dark music. It won’t come as a surprise that ‘Seen Better Days’ is a personal account of the 18 months of hell, through chemotherapy, radiation and surgery that I have endured. Embracing the beautiful love and support I have received from friends, family and fans while often putting on a brave face in the horrid abyss of stage 4 cancer is no easy feat, so I felt it was right to put it to words and music. Somehow as brutally vulnerable as the song is, it still maintains an uplifting melancholy and, despite its crushing ending, manages a breath of optimism through the bleakness… after all, life is beautiful.”

The Rasmus Unveil New Single “Break These Chains” ft. Niko Vilhelm Ahead of Album ‘Weirdo’

0

6x Platinum and 8x Gold-certified, record-breaking Finnish rock outfit THE RASMUS hold nothing back on their new track, the toxic love-themed “Break These Chains” ft. Niko Vilhelm of Blind Channel. It’s out via Better Noise Music and Playground Music. Driven by the band’s signature blend of dark atmospheres and anthemic melodies, the emotionally gripping song is taken from the album “WEIRDO“. It arrives September 12, marking their 11th studio album and first for Better Noise Music. Pre-orders and limited edition merchandise bundles are available now HERE.

“‘Break These Chains’ is about a toxic relationship,” says singer Lauri Ylonen, who digs his teeth into such lethal lyrics as “You made me believe/That true passion makes you bleed/So I stayed too long/To play your twisted games.” Lauri wrote the song with revered hit songwriters/producers Marti Frederiksen and Desmond Child. “It’s about letting go of something that you know is bad for you, but you’re obsessed with.”

For “Break These Chains,” THE RASMUS called on Niko Vilhelm (of the Finnish Nu Metal band Blind Channel) to make a special guest vocal appearance. “The Rasmus are heroes of mine, so obviously I was excited when Lauri called me and asked me to be a part of this song. Even more so when I heard the track. The heavier sound suits them soooo well. I’m so hyped about where they’re headed and what’s to come.”

Most of the songs on WEIRDO were written by Lauri Ylonen, Desmond Child (who contributed to the band’s BLACK ROSES and RISE albums and has worked with Bon Jovi, Joan Jett & The Blackhearts, Aerosmith, Alice Cooper, among countless others) and Marti Fredriksen (Aerosmith, Ozzy Osbourne, Black Veil Brides) in Folegandros, Greece. That’s where Lauri and Desmond met up to work on material that Lauri brought. THE RASMUS then did full band demos of all the tracks in Finland in July 2023, with production led by Frederiksen and Child.

Later, they finalized the songs and recorded the album with the whole band in Marti Fredriksen’s Sienna Studios in Nashville. Some of the tracks were mixed by Fredriksen in Nashville, assisted by Evan Fredriksen, while other mixes were done by Chris Baseford (Nickelback, Shinedown, Daughtry) in Vancouver, Canada and by Claudius Mittendorfer (Panic! At The Disco, We Are Scientists) in London, and Joseph McQueen (Bad Wolves, As I Lay Dying, From Ashes To New) in Los Angeles. Additional production by McQueen injects a fresh intensity into tracks like “Creatures of Chaos” and “Break These Chains,” while Ylonen himself takes the helm on “Rest in Pieces” alongside Alex Mattson.

The album’s second single “Creatures of Chaos” arrived March 28, with the video racking up over 521k views. It followed the album’s first single “Rest In Pieces,” released October 25, 2024, paired with a lyric video which now has amassed over 556k views.

“I find it comforting that our 11th album, WEIRDO, has pretty much the same message as on our first album released in 1996,” says Lauri. “It is to defend and praise the ones who are different from the masses and proudly being themselves as they are. It has been our philosophy from the very beginning.”

Ylonen explains the power behind being a “weirdo.” “In this society I’ve always felt that I’ve had to prove myself for being the way I am or doing the things I do. I’ve always felt like an outsider not fitting the norm. I’ve been called a weirdo, misfit and a freak. That used to make me angry-but not anymore. It’s become my source of strength and confidence. I’ve realized the power of it. All the people I find exciting and inspiring are somehow strange. We, the Weirdos, unite and feed off people’s judging attitudes. The fact is they’re just afraid of us. Afraid of our capability to create new and change the future. Are you a Weirdo? Join us…”

With its uncompromising vision and unapologetic message, “WEIRDO is poised to be THE RASMUS’ most ambitious and impactful album yet.

“WEIRDO” Tracklisting:
1. Creatures of Chaos
2. Break These Chains
3. Rest in Pieces
4. Dead Ringer
5. Weirdo
6. Banksy
7. Love Is a Bitch
8. You Want It All
9. Bad Things
10. I’m Coming for You

THE RASMUS will bring their unforgettable stage show to audiences worldwide in 2025 on the “Weirdo Tour.” They recently concluded a month-long U.S. trek with The Funeral Portrait, and are now in the midst of their own North American headlining tour, which kicked off May 3 in Atlanta, GA. Tickets are on sale now for its European leg (9/12 – 12/6); see the full dates listed below.

It’s been a while since we went on tour, so we’re really excited to be heading out all over the world in 2025,” exclaims Lauri Ylönen. “It’s shaping up to be a massive tour and there’s more dates to come. We can’t wait to hang out with our fans. It’s going to be fun to see them again, we’re like family.

Meanwhile, The Rasmus will play a charity concert in Ukraine on July 19 as the headliner of the Atlas Festival, as the only foreign artist at the event. The band wants to do their part to help Ukraine. Over 60,000 people are expected to be in attendance, and there will be a comprehensive security system and evacuation plan for the audience and performers in just a few minutes if necessary. Last year, the festival raised over two million euros for charity. The artists can choose to direct their charitable funds to any Ukraine-related cause, such as supporting children’s hospitals, purchasing ambulances, or helping combat medical personnel.

It’s scary to play in the middle of war, but we want to show our support for the Ukrainian people,” says Lauri Ylönen. We have a massive fan base in Ukraine and we’ve also previously done a joint song with the Ukrainian Eurovision winner Kalush Orchestra.”
