Mick Jones of Foreigner to Release First Solo Single in Decades, “Shelter from The Storm,” Supporting Parkinson’s Research

0

Today it was announced that Foreigner’s Mick Jones will release a brand new single, “Shelter from The Storm,” a stunning anthem serving as an emotional support for uncertain times.

With the music and words by Jones, as well as lead vocals, bass, electric guitar and backing vocals, this is Jones’s first single release in decades. The song, penned decades ago and picked back up now as part of Jones’s flight against Parkinson’s, will be available on all streaming platforms and for digital download on May 23, 2025.

Fans are invited to pre-save the single here in support of Parkinson’s Awareness Month, which is celebrated each April. Jones has been quietly living with Parkinson’s disease (PD) over the past several years, announcing his diagnosis for the first time publicly at the top of last year. On April 26, The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research (MJFF) will unveil the song at their annual Parkinson’s Unity Walk, an interactive day of programming that includes thousands of people and families impacted by PD, in New York City’s Central Park. Jones is slated to take part in this event, and fans can support his goal by donating to MJFF through his team by visiting https://give.michaeljfox.org/ShelterFromTheStorm.

100 percent of proceeds from the walk will go toward supporting The Michael J. Fox Foundation’s mission to speed critical research toward a cure and public policy priorities that people and families living with PD urgently need.

Says Jones , “I am honored that my friend Michael J Fox has chosen to unveil “Shelter from The Storm” at the Unity Walk this year. Michael has done so much to raise awareness of the terrible debilitating disease that we share. His efforts to bring focus to the need for funds to research and a cure are legendary, and I hope to support him in any way that I can.”

Also appearing on “Shelter from The Storm” in addition to Jones are Felix van Dijk on acoustic guitar and backing vocals, Dave Eggar on keyboard, Robert Holmes on lead guitar, Steve Kirkman on electric guitar and backing vocals, Chuck Palmer on drum programming, and Mickie Steier on backing vocals.

Andy Bell Unveils New Single “Heart’s A Liar” Featuring Debbie Harry Ahead of ‘Ten Crowns’ Album Release

0

Andy Bell has unveiled his striking new single and video, “Heart’s A Liar (featuring Debbie Harry),” the latest to be taken from his forthcoming solo album, Ten Crowns – set for release on May 2nd on vinyl (white, oxblood and picture disc available), CD (standard and 2CD versions), gold cassette and digitally via Crown Recordings. The album coincides with a UK tour, followed by a run of European dates, with North American dates announced today.

Andy welcomes his ultimate pop heroine – one he sang about on a track back in 2010 – Debbie Harry for the yearningly wistful ‘Heart’s A Liar.’ “To have Debbie Harry singing with me – you know, I still can’t quite believe it.”

The song is Andy’s rewrite of a track by English-Italian singer-songwriter and regular Dave Audé collaborator, Luciana, which Andy imagines being about two lovers being no good for each other. “Debbie gives it this gravitas and this coquettishness, but she’s still very in command. And she recorded her vocals in the studio on Gay Pride, which I thought when I heard it, oh, trust her!”

The video casts Andy in a dimly lit, ornate bedroom – grappling with loss, surrounded by the faded grandeur of a once-vibrant love. As he moves through the hallowed halls of a lavish estate, his voice cuts through with piercing clarity: “You said I’d always be in your heart / Your heart’s a liar liar liar…” Draped in faux fur, clutching old photographs, Bell delivers a vivid portrait of love’s remains – elegant, fractured, and unforgettable.

The album coincides with a tour – full details below – beginning on 1 May in York, continuing through to Cambridge on 19 May, with a London show at Shepherd’s Bush Empire on 16 May. Support for the UK dates has just been announced: in York, Birmingham and Manchester, Dave Aude (who produced and co-wrote the album) will open with a DJ set and for the rest of the dates, Hifi Sean & David McAlmont support.

The new track follows the BBC Radio 2 playlisted single, ‘Don’t Cha Know’, Dance For Mercy, and ‘Breaking Thru The Interstellar’, spectacular introductions to Ten Crowns – 10 tracks of dazzling, joyous pop, produced and polished in Nashville, inspired by the dancefloor and gospel – marking a majestic moment in his career.

No stranger to collaboration – his four decades of writing and recording with Vince Clarke as Erasure are still going strong and the duo recently began work on a new album together – Bell threw himself into writing with close friend Dave Aude, the Grammy award-winning producer, remixer and DJ. Their work together is euphoric, and to top the celebrations, they invited Andy’s ultimate pop heroine, Debbie Harry, to join Andy on vocals for ‘Hearts A Liar’.

Andy and Dave had previously collaborated on two US dance chart number ones together: 2014’s ‘Aftermath (Here We Go)’ and 2016’s ‘True Original’, and after those dance tracks, the pair “just kind of carried on writing as an exercise”, Andy explains, “and after that, Dave moved his family to Nashville because LA was so expensive, and so our writing took this kind of gospel-tinged Nashville twist.”

He describes how in Nashville there’s a church on every corner (“it reminded me of singing in choirs and cathedral school as a child, where the spirit of the church is imbued in the music”). Not that Ten Crowns is a sombre, spiritual set. It’s propulsive, electronic, passionate, driven by the need to encounter new emotions and experiences as life races on. “I mean, I’ve got everything I could possibly wish for, you know, I really have, but that’s not to say I’m always fulfilled,” Andy adds. “This album’s about picking yourself up, dusting yourself off, embracing life – and about taking that feeling on even when you’re fighting demons in the world, like homophobia, and fighting demons in yourself. It’s about being celebratory and uplifting.”

Ten Crowns marks a magisterial moment in Andy Bell’s forty-year career. His joy about what that holds, and where it can go, clearly excites him. “It’s my third (sort of) solo record [following 2005’s Electric Blue and 2010’s Non-Stop] and in Erasure, our third album was our most successful out of all that we’ve done, so I’m taking that spirit with me!”

Travelling into new dimensions and possibilities with gospel in the heart and dancing in the soul clearly suits him. Ten Crowns is Andy Bell imperial, gleaming, ready for his coronation.

Die Krupps Join Ministry for 2025 North American Tour, Release Haunting New Single “Cinnamon Girl”

0

Post-industrial provocateurs Die Krupps are set to ignite stages across North America this summer as direct support for the legendary Ministry on their highly anticipated 2025 tour.

The bill also includes performances from My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult and Nitzer Ebb, and Die Kruups founder Jurgen Engler describes it as “The tour we have been awaiting for a long time.

“It’s the perfect package, a great line-up of bands, which for sure is exciting for the U.S. and Canadian fanbase, and for us! We have all met before in the past, so it will be like a one big happy family going out together.

“Also, Die Krupps haven’t done a full blown U.S/Canada tour in almost three decades. Now is the time for us to reconnect with our fans and show them that this band is far from retired! Hope to see you all soon, to the hilt!!!”

Just ahead of hitting the road, the band has unleashed their hypnotic new single, “Cinnamon Girl” – a dark, dirge-like homage to the sonic spirits of Neil Young (whose own “Cinnamon Girl” sounds nothing like this!) and Type O Negative.

Dripping in noir atmosphere and analog melancholy, the track also introduces the enigmatic Cinnamon Babe, a fast-rising star in the dark-pop underground whose voice floats through the song like smoke in a dim-lit motel room.

“‘Cinnamon Girl’is about memory, obsession, and the soft tragedy of stardom,” Engler continues. “We wanted it to feel like a furious version of that famous Blue Velvet backroom scene where Dennis Hopper is listening to ‘The Candy-Colored Clown Called The Sandman’.”

For more than four decades, Die Krupps have carved out a distinctive space in the modern underground. Originating from the same hometown as fellow robots Kraftwerk, blending brooding synths, jagged guitars, and dystopian visual aesthetics, their signature sound fuses electronic attacks with the visceral punch of Industrial Metal – a style critics have described as “what would happen if Bowie scored a horror film produced by Trent Reznor, if he was from Dusseldorf!

And, as “Cinnamon Girl” hits streaming platforms and Die Krupps take the stage with Ministry, fans can expect a thunderous live set soaked in high tension, lots of sweat, the notorious steelophone and electrified doom. Don’t miss it!

Sombr Announces Fall 2025 Headline Tour Following Billboard Breakthroughs

0

19-year-old singer-songwriter and producer sombr will launch his highly anticipated headline tour this fall. The run features dates at New York’s Gramercy Theatre, San Francisco’s Rickshaw Stop, D.C.’s The Atlantis, Chicago’s Outset, Los Angeles’ El Rey Theatre, and four dates across the U.K. and Europe. See below for a complete itinerary.

The tour adds to a breakneck year for the generational artist, who has received acclaim from the likes of Elton John, John Mayer and more. Last week, sombr found himself in the Billboard Hot 100 for the second time this month-a career first. Smash hit “back to friends” landed on the chart earlier this month and is continuing to climb, reaching #56. Last week, a second single, “undressed,” officially debuted and this week reaches #84. Both tracks are self-written and released via Warner Records.

sombr has garnered widespread attention with “back to friends.” Originally released in December 2024, the track continues to take off worldwide, amassing 142M global streams. It made its Billboard Chart debut across three charts, reaching #9 on Hot Rock and #12 on Hot Rock & Alternative songs charts.

Another track, “undressed,” is soaring with 60M global streams to date and climbing. The track earned #12 on Hot Rock and #16 on Hot Rock & Alternative songs on the Billboard charts and is taking off in the U.K. at #5 on the Official Trending Chart.

sombr’s headline tour follows a slew of spring dates across North America with Daniel Seavey and a U.K and Europe run with Nessa Barrett that kicks off in May.

A New York-native raised on the Lower East Side, sombr-born Shane Boose-started making music in his bedroom while studying classical music as a student at the prestigious public school, LaGuardia High School. His breakout hit “caroline” (2022) took the internet by storm, and he has since released a series of EPs and singles, climbing to over 20 million Spotify monthly listeners. Now based in Los Angeles, sombr continues to explore young romance and heartbreak through his music-all of which is self-written and released via Warner Records. He recently collaborated with 2025 Brit Awards nominee Rachel Chinouriri for a new version of her hit song, “All I Ever Asked.”

Further new music from sombr is imminent.

Rick Wakeman and Hayley Sanderson Announce First-Ever ‘Strictly Wakeman’ Piano and Vocal Tour

0

In the last five years or so, keyboard maestro, composer and raconteur Rick Wakeman CBE has entertained audiences around the US with his brilliant and witty one-man shows, featuring solo performances of his work with YES, his own compositions and some surprise adaptations of other musicians’ material.

However, in July, his Strictly Wakeman tour will present a new show unlike any of his previous appearances. For the first time ever, Rick will be joining forces with a female singer – Hayley Sanderson, well-known for her work as one of the leading vocalists on the UK’s Strictly Come Dancing TV show – to present a series of concerts featuring music specially adapted for piano and vocals.

Rick and Hayley have been working together for several years. He accompanied her on her 2009 album, Just Songs, and impressed by her vocal versatility and clarity, subsequently invited her to sing lead vocals on a number of his shows for band (and sometimes, orchestra) in the UK and South America, at prestigious venues like the Royal Albert Hall, the Royal Festival Hall and the O2 Arena. Her awesome vocals also feature on the definitive Live At The London Palladium box set, recorded when Rick led his band through The Six Wives Of Henry VIII, The Myths And Legends Of King Arthur And The Knights Of The Round Table, Journey To The Centre Of The Earth and a set of YES classics, over two magical nights in 2023, and on his studio album, A Gallery Of The Imagination. Rick was also the person to give her the affectionate nickname ‘Strictly’!

Rick Wakeman needs no introduction. His 50-plus year career started as a much-in- demand session pianist and keyboard player, who performed his own arrangements on many classic records by the likes of David Bowie, Cat Stevens and Elton John. After a brief sojourn in the Strawbs, he joined YES and remained a member throughout their most productive period when they became the most successful progressive rock band in the world. After leaving YES, he acquired legendary status by writing and recording groundbreaking concept albums on a grand scale, but is equally at home performing solo on a Steinway grand piano. His record of being the only pianist to have two solo instrumental albums (Piano Portraits and Piano Odyssey) enter the UK charts in the Top 10 on release remains unbroken. While respecting his own musical history, Rick is always looking for ways to refresh, update and extend his legacy. “Hayley is great to work with, as she has the talent to feel the music in such a way as to make all the arrangements seamless,” he comments. “Hayley and I have never worked in concert with just the piano and voice, and so it opens up opportunities for new arrangements of pieces from rare albums, like Make Me A Woman from the Time Machine album, and Julia and The Hymn from 1984.”

Don’t miss this exciting opportunity to witness Rick’s latest creative explorations in the company of Hayley Sanderson!

Halestorm Release “Darkness Always Wins” Ahead of 2025 Tour Dates with Iron Maiden, Volbeat, and Black Sabbath Tribute

0

Halestorm today unveiled “Darkness Always Wins,” a slowly-building, cinematic hard rock anthem that marks the band’s first release of 2025. The song, produced by GRAMMY-winning producer Dave Cobb (Chris Stapleton, Brandi Carlile, Jason Isbell) is the first to be revealed from a new album from Atlantic Records, details of which will be announced soon.

“‘Darkness Always Wins’ is not a song of hope, nor is it a song of despair,” said Halestorm frontwoman Lzzy Hale. “It is reality. History repeating. Evil prevails and the good depart first. But we are not doomed as long as we persist and keep our fires burning. The war may not be won in this lifetime. But our mission is to pass the torch so that those who follow have a light to fight with.”

This summer, Halestorm will travel to Europe to support Iron Maiden followed by a US run supporting Volbeat, but not before a one-night-only performance at Black Sabbath’s last show in Birmingham, England on July 5. See below for a full list of all 2025 dates.

Exodus Teams Up with Death Angel’s Mark Osegueda for Scorpions Cover Ahead of 40th Anniversary Tour

0

Just ahead of their Bonded By Blood 40th Anniversary shows, “Swarm of Horror” USA headline tour and stops at Sonic Temple, Welcome to Rockville and Milwaukee Metal Fest, thrash metal giants Exodus have revealed a brand new cover of the Scorpions deep cut “He’s A Woman – She’s A Man” featuring fellow thrash icon Mark Osegueda of Death Angel on lead vocals!

This unmissable hard rock-turned-thrash metal meeting sees some of metal’s legendary greats paying homage to one of rock’s most timeless artists.

Exodus guitarist Gary Holt says: “We decided to cover one of our favorite bands of all time a ways back and have been sitting on it until now, and even better, the one and only Mark Osegueda of Death Angel/Kerry King collabed with us to sing it, and he crushes it! He is the only guy we knew who could do Klaus justice. Hope you dig it!”

Steely Dan’s The Royal Scam Returns to Vinyl June 6 in Deluxe UHQR and Standard Editions

0

Steely Dan’s darkly cynical and musically intricate fifth album, 1976’s The Royal Scam, with such fan favorites as “Kid Charlemagne,” “The Fez,” “The Caves of Altamira,” and the biting title track, will return to vinyl for the first time in more than forty years on June 6 via Geffen/UMe, concluding the extensive reissue program of the band’s classic ABC and MCA Records catalog that began in November 2022 with the Dan’s legendary debut LP, Can’t Buy A Thrill. The series, which is personally overseen by founding member Donald Fagen, returns the group’s first seven records to vinyl, most of which haven’t been available since their original release.

The Royal Scam has been meticulously remastered by Bernie Grundman from the original analog tapes for release as a limited edition premium 45 RPM version on Ultra High-Quality Vinyl (UHQR) from Analogue Productions, the audiophile in-house reissue label of Acoustic Sounds. Analogue Productions is also releasing this series of titles on Super Audio CD (SACD).

UMe’s standard 33 1/3 RPM 180-gram version has been remastered by Joe Nino-Hernes at Sterling Sound from high-resolution digital files and pressed at Precision. They will be housed in reproductions of the original artwork. Nino-Hernes’ new remaster of The Royal Scam will also be available to stream on the DSPs on June 6, joining the already available remasters of the rest of the catalog – Can’t Buy A Thrill, Countdown To Ecstasy, Pretzel Logic, Katy Lied, Aja, and Gaucho – which were remastered by Alex Abrash from Bernie Grundman’s masters.

The 45 RPM UHQR versions will be pressed at Analogue Productions’ Quality Record Pressings on 200-gram Clarity Vinyl, packaged in a deluxe box, and will include a booklet detailing the entire process of making a UHQR along with a certificate of inspection. Each UHQR is pressed, using hand-selected vinyl, with attention paid to every single detail of every single record. All of the innovations introduced by QRP that have been generating such incredible critical acclaim are applied to each UHQR. The 200-gram records feature the same flat profile that helped to make the original UHQR so desirable.

Led by the songwriting and virtuoso musical duo of Walter Becker and Donald Fagen, Steely Dan released an extraordinary run of seven albums on ABC Records and MCA Records from 1972 through 1980. Filled with topline musicianship, clever and subversive wordplay, ironic humor, genius arrangements, and pop hits that outshone the Top 40 of its day, their records, which were as sophisticated and cerebral as they were inscrutable, were stylistically diverse, melding their love of jazz with rock, blues, and impeccable pop songcraft.

Released in 1976, The Royal Scam marked a pivotal moment in Steely Dan’s evolution toward studio perfectionism, delivering a darker, more cynical tone wrapped in complex jazz-rock arrangements. This album features some of the band’s sharpest songwriting and introduces legendary drummer Bernard Purdie to the fold-his first appearance on a Steely Dan record-bringing his signature groove to tracks like “Kid Charlemagne” and “Green Earrings.” Guitarist Larry Carlton delivers searing solos throughout the album, particularly on “Don’t Take Me Alive,” while Dean Parks adds talk box flair to the reggae-influenced “Haitian Divorce.” The album also includes standout cuts like the funky, offbeat “The Fez” and the epic title track, “The Royal Scam,” a scathing portrait of shattered American dreams. With contributions from bassist Chuck Rainey, keyboardist Paul Griffin, and the soaring background vocals of Michael McDonald, The Royal Scam combines biting social commentary with masterful musicianship, making it a cult favorite and a testament to Steely Dan’s uncompromising artistic vision.

Despite achieving gold record status and peaking at No. 15 on the Billboard 200, The Royal Scam was not as critically well-received as its predecessors at the time, or the band’s masterpiece, Aja, that would follow just a year later, but since its release more than 50 years ago it has become a favorite among the fans as well as the music press who have come to better understand its quixotic charms and cryptic characters. In 2004, Rolling Stone awarded the album five stars in their retrospective review, atoning for their original less than stellar review. More recently, in March 2025, four of the tracks (“Kid Charlemagne,” “The Caves of Altamira,” “Sign In Stranger,” The Royal Scam”) were ranked in the band’s top 25 in the magazine’s ranking of every Steel Dan song. “Kid Charlemagne” was ranked as the band’s second-best song (while Mojo ranked it as #3), exclaiming, “Drawing on the exploits of famed LSD manufacturer (and Grateful Dead audio engineer) Owsley Stanley, ‘Kid Charlemagne’ is an outlaw parable for the ignominious end of the Sixties counterculture. A bustling rocker juiced by a sprightly clavichord jump and laced with a first ballot hall of fame guitar solo from Larry Carlton. Donald Fagen tells the tale like a hippie noir – diamonds crossed with pearls and Technicolor motorhomes dissolving into darkly comic bumbling.” Meanwhile, The Royal Scam was ranked as Steely Dan’s second-best album by Stereogum, declaring it “their fiercest, funkiest record in their entire catalog, a classic that transitioned them from the uneasy company of the yacht-rock smooth to a mean unit that grooved like Stevie for pessimists.”

Reverb to Become Independent Company Again Following Sale by Etsy to Creator Partners and Servco

0

Today, music gear marketplace Reverb announced that two new investors-Creator Partners and Servco-have entered an agreement to purchase Reverb from Etsy. Once the deal closes, Reverb will be a privately-held, independently operated company backed by two investors that share Reverb’s experience in the music industry and focus on supporting musicians.

“Creator Partners and Servco share our passion for the musical instruments industry and a community-first approach, plus a deep desire to strengthen creative industries,” said David Mandelbrot, CEO at Reverb. “The musicians, shops, and brands who use Reverb have always been at the center of all that we do, and these two partners will help us support our music-making community in new and better ways.”

Known for their focus on the digital transformation of creative industries, Creator Partners is an investment company currently investing in music companies including BMI, SoundCloud, Color Studios and Mogul.

“Reverb is the #1 global marketplace for musicians, and a one-of-a-kind platform that has transformed access to quality used gear for creators of all levels” said Kerry Trainor, Creator Partners Founder and former CEO of SoundCloud and Vimeo, “We are thrilled to join the Reverb mission to make the world more musical, and grow the entire industry through seamless secondhand commerce.”

Servco has been involved in the musical instrument industry since 1937, including a long history with Fender-first as a dealer of Fender music gear in the 1950s, then as part of the group that bought the company from CBS in 1985 and now as the majority owner of the company, as well as an active investor in other musical instruments businesses.

“We are thrilled and honored to be a part of Reverb’s continued success,” said Executive Chair of Servco, Mark Fukunaga. “For nearly 90 years, Servco has been deeply involved in musical instruments and music education programs. And we remain committed to being good stewards of leading musical instrument companies, like Reverb, and supporting players everywhere in pursuing their passion to create music.”

When the deal closes in the coming months, Reverb will return to being an independent business. According to Mandelbrot, buyers and sellers won’t notice any disruption as a result of this news, but he does expect the Reverb community to notice positive changes and new innovations in the coming months as the team continues to focus on making Reverb the best place to buy and sell music gear.

“We’ve got a lot of exciting changes in the works. We’re expanding access to music-making software on Reverb and we’re getting ready to pilot a new option for selling that allows musicians to get paid faster, while skipping the listing and shipping process. Our teams are working on improving our search functionality, making it easier to ship, and shortening the time it takes to resolve support issues,” said Mandelbrot. “All and all, there’s a lot for our community to look forward to and I’m very excited about what’s coming as we move forward as an independent company again.”
