Global Ukraine Social Rally Joined by Ukulele U

Global Citizen has invited Ukulele U to join the world’s largest digital rally on April 8th, to Stand Up for Ukraine, alongside superstars such as The Weeknd, Celine Dion, Billie Eilish, U2 and Elton John. A host of international artists, athletes, and actors are raising their voices on social media to mobilize billions of dollars in humanitarian aid for refugees from Ukraine and conflicts around the world.

The Ukulele U cast of kids is proud to be participating in the Stand Up for Ukraine campaign in support of kids all over the world. The event includes a global social media rally on April 8th followed by a global humanitarian pledging summit on April 9th. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is co-hosting the pledging summit with European Commission President Ursula Von Der Leyen.

Co-creator of Ukulele U and legendary producer and music education advocate Bob Ezrin says, “Ukulele U is about love and innocence, peace and acceptance – all things that have been wrenched away from Ukraine and its children. With these songs we hope that, for a moment, our kids can speak for them and remind the world that we need love not war.”

The talented children on Ukulele U, led by co-creator and Juno award-winning artist, Melanie Doane, are performing Paul McCartney’s iconic “All You Need is Love” as well as Justin Bieber’s, “Friends”, which will be released on April 8th. Their messages of peace and love are symbolic of Ukulele U, a sing-along musical variety show that brims with inclusivity and kindness.

“I’m so proud of our ‘UKE U’ kids and touched that we can participate in the global digital rally, helping to raise funds for Ukrainian refugees, especially children. It’s more important than ever that we join together to support each other and share the universal messages of peace and love,” says producer and CEO of WOW! Unlimited Media, Michael Hirsh.

Melanie Doane says, “The Ukulele U kids are the perfect ambassadors to deliver this message of love and we are so proud of them.”

Ukulele U was developed and executive produced by Michael Hirsh, the Emmy and Gemini award-winning producer behind hit children’s series’ such as Franklin, Care Bears and Max + Ruby, produced by Andrea Nevitt, directed and choreographed by David Connolly, with music produced by Creighton Doane. Ukulele U is produced by Mainframe Studios and airs on CBC Kids and CBC Gem.
