SoundExchange, the premier music tech organization powering the future of music, announced today that the Jonas Brothers have been honored with the SoundExchange Hall of Fame Award as one of the most streamed acts in the organization’s 20-year history.

“The Jonas Brothers have consistently reinvented themselves over the years and have built an iron-clad fanbase from their ability to churn out memorable hit songs,” said Michael Huppe, President and CEO of SoundExchange. “It’s been incredible to watch the trio call their own shots as artists and come back to music as a group, still on top. We are honored to present them with the SoundExchange Hall of Fame Award.”

Nick JonasJoe Jonas, and Kevin Jonas were presented with their SoundExchange Hall of Fame Award by SoundExchange’s Tiara Guy (Associate Director, Marketing & Industry Relations) before their appearance at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.

Standing out as one of the most successful groups of the 21st century, Jonas Brothers—Nick Jonas, Joe Jonas, and Kevin Jonas—have sold north of 20 million albums and counting, garnered two GRAMMY® Award nominations, earned 26 Billboard Hot 100 hits, logged three consecutive #1 debuts on the Billboard 200, and generated billions of streams. Among many accolades, they’ve recently claimed a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. In 2019, they notably ignited the comeback of the decade with their Platinum-Certified Republic Records debut, Happiness Begins. It yielded the history-making, 5x- Platinum smash “Sucker,” which minted them as “the first group in the 21st century to debut at #1 on the Hot 100,” exploded as the “longest running #1 Pop Airplay Single of 2019,” and received a GRAMMY® Award nomination in the category of “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance.” Bowing at #1 on the Billboard 200, Happiness Begins impressively scored the “biggest sales week of 2019 at time of release” and housed the Double-Platinum “Only Human” and Platinum “Cool.” The band supported the album with the worldwide “Happiness Begins Tour“—selling over 1.2 million tickets—and the Amazon Original documentaries Chasing Happiness and Happiness Continues. Along the way, the members simultaneously juggled prolific solo careers extending into television, film, and successful business ventures. In 2023, Jonas Brothers once again proved they are a constant force, embarking on a new era with the release of The Album via Republic Records. The Album was produced by Jon Bellion and features hit singles “Waffle House” and “Wings.” In support of the new album and this new era for Jonas Brothers, they kicked off “The Tour” with two sold-out shows at New York’s iconic Yankee Stadium on August 12th and 13th. “The Tour” will include stadium and arena dates around the globe through 2024, resulting in the band’s biggest and most extensive tour to date.

My Next Read: “Live from the Underground: A History of College Radio” by Katherine Rye Jewell

0

Bands like R.E.M., U2, Public Enemy, and Nirvana found success as darlings of college radio, but the extraordinary influence of these stations and their DJs on musical culture since the 1970s was anything but inevitable. As media deregulation and political conflict over obscenity and censorship transformed the business and politics of culture, students and community DJs turned to college radio to defy the mainstream—and they ended up disrupting popular music and commercial radio in the process. In this first history of US college radio, Katherine Rye Jewell reveals that these eclectic stations in major cities and college towns across the United States owed their collective cultural power to the politics of higher education as much as they did to upstart bohemian music scenes coast to coast.

Jewell uncovers how battles to control college radio were about more than music—they were an influential, if unexpected, front in the nation’s culture wars. These battles created unintended consequences and overlooked contributions to popular culture that students, DJs, and listeners never anticipated. More than an ode to beloved stations, this book will resonate with both music fans and observers of the politics of culture.

Hear The Long-Lost Versions Of “Miss You” And “Beast Of Burden” By The Rolling Stones

0

The 1978 album Some Girls by The Rolling Stones took on a unique dimension with its 8-track version, diverging from the running order of its vinyl, cassette, and later CD counterparts. This alternative rendition not only featured a distinct track sequence but also unveiled three unreleased cuts that remained hidden until the internet era. Notably, the opening track “Miss You” boasted an additional 50 seconds, “Beast of Burden” stretched about 40 seconds longer, and the closing track “Shattered” underwent a reduction of approximately 60 seconds. These extended versions, now resurfaced in the digital age, offer fans a captivating glimpse into the evolution of the iconic album, showcasing The Rolling Stones’ experimental spirit and the errr…unique charms of the 8-track era.

Alt-Pop Artist Artemas Shares New Single “ur special to me”

0

Today, self-taught songwriter/producer Artemas shares his latest high energy, explosive single, “ur special to me.” Listen HERE via 10K Projects.

With its rumbling bassline and hard-hitting drums, Artemas’ new track “ur special to me” combines his grunge sensibilities with pop ear worm melodies. Like much of the London-based musician’s infectious creations, the new track is an esoteric approach to pop music, fusing Artemas’ influences seamlessly through his unique voice, production style, and songwriting. Contrasting intoxicating, breathy falsetto lines over a distorted bass and hard-hitting drums, he creates a mysterious, dark anthem that blurs the boundaries of genre. Along with the brand new song, Artemas has announced his upcoming mixtape which includes previously released tracks like “if u think I’m pretty” “just want u to feel something” and “cross my heart.”

If Artemas’ dazzling falsetto sounds familiar, it’s most likely because of his inescapable smash “if u think i’m pretty,” which has racked up an astonishing 45 million streams and over 100K TikTok videos since its release in October. Coming out of massive highs from last year’s release, he dropped “prettygrunge.wav” the grunge version of his massive hit “if u think I’m pretty,” deviating from the formula of releasing a sped-up and slowed-down version of each song. Earlier this week, he debuted on Zane Lowe’s “24 for ‘24” – a roster curated by Lowe and Jeremy Degan to spotlight the new artists to watch in 2024.

Since releasing a song nearly every month since May, the pop savant hailed by Ones to Watch as “one of the most consistent new artists in recent memory” has racked up tens of millions of streams and built a strong community through the power of the internet.

At 24-years-old, Artemas, has only been releasing music since late 2020 but is fast developing a distinctive alternative pop sound through his relatable songwriting and captivating melodies. The self-taught multi-instrumentalist and unashamed pop music fan is a student of the YouTube generation of songwriters/producers. Hailing from Oxfordshire, but now based in London, Artemas made the most of being restricted to his bedroom over the past couple of years, spending most waking hours during that time honing his studio craft. With recent singles “cross my heart” and “if you think i’m pretty” amassing tens of millions of streams, and over 4.5 million monthly Spotify listeners, Artemas looks ahead to 2024 ready to deliver his best work yet.

The 24-year-old musician’s dark R&B leanings transport listeners right into quiet night drives, lingering glances in the club, and the anticipatory feeling after the door lock clicks. “ur special to me,” which is just as much Fiona Apple as it is The Weeknd, is another notch in Artemas’ belt that’s sure to satisfy fans and create new ones.

Next month Artemas will make his headline debut at London’s The Lower Third with tickets selling out in under 20 mins for the two shows on 14th & 16th Feb, with the promise of more live shows to follow.
