ED SHEERAN ANNOUNCES THE “ – “ TOUR

0

Global superstar Ed Sheeran has announced details for the “- Tour” (pronounced “Subtract Tour”), a very special run of dates set to take place in theaters and auditoriums in 14 cities across North America. Singer-songwriter Ben Kweller supports on most dates. These intimate performances – which kick off at the Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater, FL, on May 19th, and wrap up at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, CA, on September 22 (see full itinerary below) – coincide with the massive stadium shows of Sheeran’s previously announced “+ – = ÷ x Tour” (pronounced “Mathematics Tour”).

To ensure more tickets get into the hands of fans who want to go to his shows, Ed Sheeran is using Ticketmaster’s Verified Fan technology for his “ – Tour.” Verified Fan uses a registration system to help filter out buyers looking to resell tickets. Registration opens on Friday, April 28th at 10:00am ET and closes on Sunday, April 30th at 11:59pm ET.

The newly announced tour supports Sheeran’s forthcoming, soul-baring, new album “ – “ will be released on May 5 via Atlantic Records and is available for pre-order here. Written against a backdrop of grief and hope, Ed wrote and recorded the fourteen-track record with Aaron Dessner (of The National) in February last year after a series of hard-hitting events impacted his life. Last week saw the arrival of the album’s poignant opening track “Boat,” following lead single “Eyes Closed,” which marked Ed’s 14th #1 in the UK, earning him the 3rd most chart toppers in UK history, behind only Elvis Presley and the Beatles.

To coincide with the arrival of “ – “, the all-new, four-part documentary “Ed Sheeran: The Sum of It All” will begin streaming on Disney+ starting May 3. Blending never-before-seen personal archive, interviews and performances, the intimate documentary explores how his personal experiences have shaped him to become the artist he is today. Watch the emotional, official trailer here.

Ed will begin the North American leg of his worldwide “+ – = ÷ x Tour,” hitting stadiums across the continent starting May 6 at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, TX (full itinerary below). The trek marks his first stateside tour since the history-making “Divide Tour” in 2018, which officially became the most-attended and highest-grossing tour of all time by its completion. Ed closed 2022 topping Billboard’s Top Ticket Sales chart after wrapping the UK/European leg of the “+ – = ÷ x Tour,” performing in front of over 3 million people in 6 months, highlighted by a five-night stand at London’s Wembley Stadium.

May 29, 1983 will forever be an important day in the history of heavy metal. After all, it was on this date that the world’s top metal acts (Van Halen, the Scorpions, Triumph, Ozzy Osbourne, Judas Priest, Mötley Crüe, and Quiet Riot) shared the stage on “Heavy Metal Sunday” at the mammoth US Festival. And to celebrate the 40th anniversary of this legendary concert, one of the day’s standout performers, Triumph, will be issuing the double-LP, Live at the US Festival. Also, ALL three band members, Mike, Rik and Gil, will join the chat, say hi to the fans and answer a few questions.

“Playing on the ‘Heavy Metal Sunday’ was just amazing for us,” recalls Triumph bassist Mike Levine. “ It was really neat playing without our big production. We killed it. The band was hotter than a pistol. That day will always be locked in my memory – flying in on the chopper and looking at the endless amount of people and going, ‘What have we got ourselves into here?!’”

Between 1975-1988, Triumph – singer/guitarist Rik Emmett, singer/drummer Gil Moore, and Levine – rocked the world, and in the process, gave us countless classic hard rock anthems (“Fight the Good Fight,” “Hold On,” “Magic Power,” “Lay It On the Line,” “A World of Fantasy,” etc.) and albums (Just a Game, Progressions of Power, Allied Forces, Never Surrender, Thunder Seven, etc.).

But it was the trio’s show-stopping performance at the US Festival that remains one of the greatest performances of their career. And now, fans can revisit it from start to finish with the killer Live at the US Festival set.

Veteran Radio Host JEFF SAMMUT Releases New Podcast “Remembering” Celebrating Gord Downie, M*A*S*H, Star Wars, John Lennon + More

0

Who doesn’t love taking a trip down memory lane and reminiscing? If you think back to your youth, there were probably many iconic figures who made a huge impact on you, and wouldn’t it be cool to learn more about what made them tick?

If so, you’re in for a real treat as the 30-year veteran of radio, Jeff Sammut brings you his newly created podcast called, “Remembering with Jeff Sammut,” unlocking all the behind-the-scenes stories of your favourite cultural figures, streaming now on Spotify and Apple.

Remembering kicks off remembering the late, great singer/songwriter and legendary Canadian Rock icon – Gord Downie, the Tragically Hip frontman. This episode will give the listeners an in-depth account of his life and an inside perspective from Gord’s wife, Kaya Usher, who shares many amazing, heartfelt stories.

“Remembering is the podcast dedicated to meaningful conversations with those closely connected with who and what we fondly remember,” says the Sirius XM radio host of Canada Now.” Jeff continues to add, “Guests will walk through conversations, events, venues, years, TV shows, movies, and everything worth remembering. This is the podcast that makes you smile with memories that’ll come flooding back of who or what we are remembering.”

Sammut’s experience and exceptional understanding of what it means to be a strong radio personality who offers humour and curiosity, combined with active listening skills make him the perfect host for Remembering. With nearly 30 years of radio experience, Jeff has worked on all aspects of a radio show from producing, scriptwriting, creative planning and taking the microphone, making him extremely well-equipped to guide you through each guest’s journey.

The Second City Improv Conservatory Program graduate asks in-depth questions to further enhance the conversations throughout each episode: “What was the late singer of The Tragically Hip, Gord Downie, like at home as a husband and father? How was it when Carrie Fisher first walked onto the set of Star Wars? What was it like as a cast member of M*A*S*H to say goodbye to the series? As a close friend of John Lennon’s, what do you think of when you hear his name mentioned?”

Only a select few can answer those questions, and Sammut gets to uncover those truths as he dives into conversations with his respective guests who take the listeners on a journey through those memories.

“I have created a show that I want to listen to. While being a very curious person, my guests invite me to memory lanes that I never thought I’d get to walk down and I’m bringing my listeners with me,” says Sammut.

Country Pop Singer KATELYN LEHNER Releases “10 Bucks” Single and Video Out Now

0

Katelyn Lehner leads us into a new country-pop single by slapping us in the face with clicky hooks, memorable lyrics, and a catchy chorus. The new single “10 Bucks” doesn’t hold any punches when it comes to not taking itself too seriously and, at the same time, manages to touch on a classic subject matter we’ve all experienced: The Breakup.

Hailing from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, the country artist is taking us on a new music career journey that has had her as North Sask Music Zine’s 2022 Artist of the Year alongside opening for acts like Dean Brody, George Canyon, Blue Rodeo, and Tenille Arts. Her ability to meld that classic country and western sound with contemporary pop is effortless, having enough of each genre to please both sides of the fence, like early Taylor Swift, Faith Hill, and Shania Twain.

Lehner’s new country-infused pop single, “10 Bucks” is for those of us that need to express our dislike for our ex at 3 am in a Karaoke Bar after a few beers. And boy, the whole bar will be singing along. It’s infectious in a good way. Even if it’s not your bag, you’ll be foot-tapping along, humming the chorus, and beaming from ear to ear.

Although pop in its roots, it doesn’t shy away from the classic country vibe featuring plenty of lap steel, slide electric guitar, and plucky banjo for country lovers. It rolls along with an upbeat tempo allowing Lehner’s sweet vocals to perfectly match the pace of “10 Bucks,” especially during the catchy-as-heck chorus.

Imma bet ya 10 bucks
He gon call me in a week
Saying that he couldn’t sleep without me
there
Imma bet ya 10 bucks
He’ll be down on his knees
Saying pretty baby please come back to
me
But I’ve been doing okay
And I think we’re both better off this way
Imma bet ya 10 bucks
That he won’t agree
That’s just more money in my pocket.

The “10 Bucks” video doesn’t stop at subtle. It walks right past and into your face with a classically hold-no-bars pop performance. With an entertaining story from a cheating boyfriend to pure pop success. Ending up with the debut of a dress made from actual 10-dollar bills. Not photocopied, not printed fabric, but actual 10-dollar bills. Lehner goes on to explain:

“Originally, we had planned to order in prop money. Turns out it’s not as easy to find Canadian prop money as it is to find American prop money. So, I went out to the ATM and started withdrawing.”

The video took three days to film at locations around Saskatoon, and in only a few short days, the video had over 40,000 views and had been shared over 800 times.

“Creating this music video was one of the most challenging but most fun projects I’ve ever been a part of,” says Lehner. “From the treatment, to locations, to wardrobe, I had a hand in every aspect of this video. I wanted to bring this song to life in a way that was entertaining to the viewer.”

Lehner is not only making waves in her hometown, but folks further afield are turning their musical heads in her direction to see what she does next. The single 10 Bucks shows a fraction of her talent and determination to be a formidable champion of country pop.

Singer-Songwriter Sharron Katz Reinterprets the Adam-and-Eve Tale on “Leaving Eden”

0

Shaking things up and radically diverging from one’s comfort zone requires a steely resolve and a ton of courage, and folk/roots artist Sharron Katz captures that situation’s fear, exhilaration, and grit in her single “Leaving Eden” – available now. It’s inspired by the Biblical tale of Adam and Eve, which Katz began to interpret anew after a seismic life change.

“This song is dedicated to anyone with the courage to travel off the beaten path,” Katz says. “I love the story of Adam and Eve. I see it in a new light and offer up an alternate story.”

“Leaving Eden” is a clean acoustic-and-piano affair with Katz’s clear dulcet tones floating on top. An almost Pearl Jam-inspired intro starts the song with a classic array of piano and heavily strummed guitar before the bass and drums arrive to roll the song along. And then Katz introduces us to a different Eve from the one that has traditionally been painted as the temptress who led Adam astray:

Now some say that Eve never had a choice
But I think that Eve simply found her voice
The apple so tasty – the apple so moist
If an apple meant freedom – she would rejoice

Katz goes on to indirectly ask this question throughout: What human would not want to eat from the tree of knowledge?

The song was inspired by Katz’s move as a divorced woman to Stratford, Ontario from Toronto back in 2015. “I did not know a soul. In fact I had seen Facebook ads for homes going for $200K, which was mind boggling for me,” she recalls. “So off to the Stratty I moved! Oh man, it was scary and to this day I’m still unsure of how I did it.”

But it worked out beautifully. “Seven years later and my life has changed off the charts for better,” she reports, happily. “I met my second hubby, and I have an incredible home, friends, and life.”

This turn for the better made her philosophical about the way life works. “Our purpose in this life is to grow – and this is not something we even have to work at,” she observes. “Life will give us experiences – positive and negative – and we, as the ‘artists,’ will choose how to colour the landscape of our time here on earth.”

“So kudos to Eve, and kudos to Adam in supporting her quest for knowledge,” she adds. “And kudos to us all as we continue our own quest to create our best life.”

The track features a plethora of musical talent, including Tim Smythe on electric guitar, Paul DeLong on drums, Don Baird on keys, and Robbie Patterson taking up bass duty. Katz plays acoustic and takes the full lead on vocals. Her husband Mike McCullough took charge of engineering, with the song produced and mixed by the wife-and-husband duo.

Sharron Katz is a masterful storyteller whose latest album Portrait weaves together stories of love in its darkest depths and brightest light. Her emotive songs portray a transcendence of the heart. Katz is much like Alanis Morissette, fearless in her sharing of human pain and redemption in matters of love. While her topics may sometimes be deep, her melodies are playful and unique, filled with resonant harmonies and beats.
