Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Continues Initiative to Diversify Fan Base with Launch of Rockhall.com in Spanish

0

As Hispanic Heritage Month draws to a close, the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame is proud to announce the launch of Rockhall.com in Spanish. Earlier this year, the Museum began a key initiative to expand and serve its diverse fan base by providing more content in both English and Spanish while celebrating Hispanic and Latinx heritage and musical contributions.

Over the last several months, Spanish language content rolled out digitally across the Museum’s annual Fan Vote, Rock Hall EDU, live chat, and Facebook Messenger features and is now available on Rockhall.com.

“Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, and Inclusion are at the forefront of everything we do as a museum,” said Greg Harris, President and CEO. “We are committed to the intentional development of exhibits, programs, and outreach through our digital platforms, the museum, and community work. We work with and advocate for individuals, communities, organizations, and businesses to create a vibrant, inclusive and accessible environment and are dedicated to using strategies that benefit and shape our collective futures. Rock & roll is a universal artform that doesn’t know the boundaries of language. We are thrilled that our Spanish-speaking fans can now more fully experience everything the Rock Hall has to offer.”

To view the Rock Hall content in Spanish, fans can head to Rockhall.com. In the upper lefthand corner of the screen, there is a button labeled, “Español.” Once clicked, the site will be translated from English to Spanish.

The Rock Hall will continue to add content to make its offerings more accessible to all. Future initiatives will include Spanish language content within the Museum experience as well as a dedicated exhibit to highlight the global impact and influence of Spanish Rock.

Plus, teachers, parents, and guardians are invited to visit Rock Hall EDU to explore the Hispanic Heritage Month collection which is jam-packed with resources designed to help students understand the role Latin artists and music have had on Rock & Roll. Available assets include a playlist to identify Latin music’s influence on Rock, an analysis of Inductee Joan Baez’s “Deportee (Plane Wreck at Los Gatos),” a Jennifer Lopez and Shakira activity pack exploring a modern take on Latin heritage and dance at the Super Bowl, and more.

The WAEVE (Blur’s Graham Coxon and Rose Elinor Dougall) Set To Release Debut Album Feb 3

0

The tide is high. The time is nigh. And The Waeve is rolling in…

The Waeve is a new project featuring the duo of Graham Coxon and Rose Elinor Dougall. A liquid meeting of musical minds and talents. A powerful elixir of cinematic British folk-rock, post-punk, organic songwriting and freefall jamming. The Waeve strikes that magical English folk-rock alchemy of earth and ether. Heaviness and weightlessness. Darkness and light.

The Waeve swelled up after Graham and Rose met backstage at a London venue in late 2020. After exchanging playlists, they found they had plenty of common ground and musical kinships to explore. They began working on material and recording at Graham’s home studio in north London. The ten tracks on their debut album are the results of this intense collaboration, daring each other to write better and probe deeper.

Like a game of consequences, Waeve music is a conversation between two great songwriters getting to know each other during the surreal period of lockdown. Their first explorations opened up a sonic universe neither had expected to find. Initially drawing on a shared love of English folk music, storytelling and the associated landscapes of their beleaguered island, they discovered a shared need to shed themselves of poisons, heartbreaks and defeats through music. From the cocooned conditions of the Covid period, against a brutal global backdrop of impending apocalypse and despair, a body of work emerged, dreaming of escape in a widescreen wilderness. Songs such as the myth-soaked ‘Undine’ are narrated from the duo’s twin perspectives – exploring feminine strength and male vulnerability.

Joining creative forces in The Waeve gave the duo the opportunity to push past their instrumental comfort zones. Many tracks feature Graham on saxophones, the instrument he played in his first ever musical band with Blur’s Damon Albarn back in the 80s. ‘Can I Call You’ starts as a ballad then morphs into a krautrock-style motorik number with a sprawling Coxon guitar solo. ‘All Along’ features Graham on cittern, a medieval folk lute. Rose plays piano and an ARP 2000 modular synth. The heavy weather all over The Waeve recalls the blustery folk rock of Sandy Denny or John & Beverly Martyn, while tracks such as ‘Kill Me Again‘ and ‘Over and Over’ recall the 70s rock of Kevin Ayers or Van der Graaf Generator, almost industrial in places.

Graham Coxon is one of the acknowledged guitar heroes of his generation. His seminal contribution to Blur – as well as his nine solo albums since 1998 – goes without saying. This autumn sees the publication of his autobiography, Verse, Chorus, Monster! on Faber and Faber. Rose Elinor Dougall is a singer songwriter from London who has released three solo albums – the latest being A New Illusion (2019). She has also worked with Mark Ronson and Baxter Dury among others.
The duo play almost all the sounds on the album. Drums were added at James Ford’s home studio, and the Elysian Quartet added string parts at KONK Studios in Muswell Hill.

Tracklisting:
1. Can I Call You
2. Kill Me Again
3. Over And Over
4. Sleepwalking
5. Drowning
6. Someone Up There
7. All Along
8. Undine
9. Alone And Free
10. You’re All I Want To Know

Simu Liu returns to host The 2023 JUNO Awards in Edmonton, live on CBC

The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) and CBC announced today that Simu Liu, star of the first Asian-fronted movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings, will return for a second year as host of The 2023 JUNO Awards Broadcast.

“I am truly ecstatic to be back again this year hosting The 2023 JUNO Awards,” said Simu Liu. “There are no words to describe the incredible energy that took over Toronto last spring and I can’t wait to help bring that to Edmonton. If you thought my rendition of ‘Complicated’ was good, just wait until you hear my Nickelback cover.”

The 2023 JUNO Awards land in Edmonton for the 52nd annual celebration of Canadian music on Monday, March 13, 2023. Produced by Insight Productions, the show will broadcast and stream live across Canada at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on CBC TV, CBC Gem, CBC Radio One, CBC Music, CBC Listen, and globally at CBCMusic.ca/junos and CBC Music’s Facebook, YouTube and Twitter pages.

Last year, Liu made his JUNO hosting debut in Toronto with his widely celebrated “I Am Canadian” speech before wowing audiences with his rendition of Avril Lavigne’s “Complicated” and joining viral sensation Tesher for a memorable duet of “Jalebi Baby.” He most recently wrapped production on the Netflix science fiction thriller Atlas opposite Jennifer Lopez and is set to star and executive produce Seven Wonders, an action-adventure series based on Ben Mezrich’s novel for Amazon Prime Video. Adding to his creative repertoire, Liu’s memoir “We Were Dreamers: An Immigrant Superhero Origin Story,” came out earlier this year and became an instant New York Times Bestseller. He is currently developing long-form projects under his 4:12 Entertainment banner, through which he has previously directed, produced and optioned content for film and digital.

From his ‘I Am Canadian’ monologue to his extraordinary ‘Jalebi Baby’ duet alongside Tesher, Simu was a fan favourite on the JUNOS stage last year,” said Allan Reid, President & CEO, CARAS/The JUNO Awards. “When it comes to entertainment, there really isn’t anything he can’t do and we’re thrilled to see how he evolves the role in 2023.”
Tickets for The 2023 JUNO Awards start at $49.00 (including tax plus fees) and are available for purchase at www.ticketmaster.ca/junos.

George Thorogood & The Destroyers Announce 50th Anniversary Tour For 2023

0

On December 1st, 1973, a guitarist, a drummer, and their rhythm guitarist loaded their gear into the drummer’s Volkswagen bus and drove to Lane Hall at The University of Delaware. In a week that saw new albums by Wings, Black Sabbath, and Bachman-Turner Overdrive, the three-piece band proceeded to play covers that included “No Particular Place To Go”, “Madison Blues” and “One Bourbon, One Scotch, One Beer.” The drummer, Jeff Simon, recalls the crowd was wary at first, “then it was like someone flipped a switch.” By the second set, the dance floor was packed.

“After the gig,” the guitarist says with his now-familiar grin, “Jeff and I thought, ‘maybe we’re onto something.’” It was the first-ever performance by George Thorogood & The Destroyers.

Five decades, more than 8,000 live shows, and 15 million albums later, George Thorogood and Jeff Simon – with long-time Destroyers Bill Blough, Jim Suhler and Buddy Leach – now announce their Bad All Over The World – 50 Years of Rock Tour. “From that very first show, we’ve stayed true to ourselves and the music we love,” says Thorogood. “We’ve decided to celebrate our first half-century by throwing the biggest and baddest rock party ever.”

corook Is Being “realistic”

0

Self-described “singer, songwriter, producer, multi-instrumentalist, and huge f*ckin dork” corook [pronounced ‘co-rook’] has shared her sardonic new single, “realistic.

i’ve never understood society’s view of love,” corook says. “movies and songs usually portray love as this exaggerated, self-sacrificing, desperate act that ultimately leaves me feeling underwhelmed and misrepresented. it’s unrealistic. meanwhile my generation was raised by boomers and half of them got divorced. this song is my protest of those expectations and the fears that come with that kind of honesty. it’s a commitment to finding true love in the truest way possible. maybe i’m a skeptic or maybe i’m realistic.

“realistic” follows corook’s acclaimed ode to realizing your self-worth, “smoothie,” available at all DSPs and streaming services HERE. The track was met by applause from Consequence, which wrote, “The idea of self-image has been discussed at length in music, particular in the last decade, but you’d be hard-pressed to find another song that uses the imagery of blended fruit as the vehicle of choice for the subject. Somehow, corook is the kind of voice that makes it all work – everything sung here feels believable, raw, and true.” “(‘smoothie’) is a deliciously fun pop-rock genre blend,” declared Billboard. “A verified banger.”

Recently named one of The Advocate’s “7 Queer Artists For Your Fall Playlist,” the genre-busting, Nashville-based musician tackles deeply personal themes in her music and visuals through a unique, quirky and humorous lens. This past spring, she blessed the world with her debut achoo! EP, which features surprising and insightful tracks including “idk god,” “degree,” “bad friend,” and “sims,” in addition to the fan favorite, “snakes”. Since release, corook has shared her viral adult lullaby, “it’s ok!,” the unrestrained single “BDSM,” super-hot “hell yeah” and most recently, the heartfelt “your mom.”

corook – who recently travelled to Mexico City for a performance at Mexico’s Festival Corona Capital – has spent much of this past year on the road, including a US tour alongside NYC-based piano pop/rock trio Jukebox the Ghost as well as her debut festival performance at Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, featured in Rolling Stone’s Bonnaroo 2022 wrap-up. Earlier this year, she made her first-ever North American live run alongside K.Flay and opened for X Ambassadors at “A Night Benefitting Reproductive Rights” at The Troubadour. New dates will be announced soon. For updates, please visit www.corook.com.

CP Holiday Train To Begin 2022 Tour In Support Of Local Food Banks

0

The Canadian Pacific (CP) Holiday Train program begins this week, with the first of two brightly decorated trains departing the Montreal area for the opening shows of the tour on Wednesday in Maine. Over the next four weeks, the program will raise money, food and awareness for local food banks with 168 performances in two countries.

“The CP Holiday Train, now in its 24th year, celebrates family, community and service to one another,” said CP President and CEO Keith Creel. “We hope the train’s bright lights and music foster celebrations across Canada and the U.S., bringing with those celebrations a reminder of our duty to help those less fortunate this holiday season.”

After two years of virtual concerts due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the CP Holiday Train program returns with in-person concerts, including shows for the first time in Maine and the Eastern Townships of Quebec. In the coming weeks, the two trains will make stops in communities on CP’s rail network in eight U.S. states and six Canadian provinces. The CP Holiday Train will return to Kansas City’s Union Station for the first time since 2018 with a special show on Dec. 4. The final show of the 2022 tour will take place in Port Coquitlam, B.C., on Dec. 18.

Since its inception in 1999, the CP Holiday Train has raised more than $21 million and collected 5 million pounds of food for community food banks along CP’s network.

“I have always had this someday dream of riding a train and playing some music and I can’t believe that’s actually happening this Christmas. I’m so excited for the Holiday Train,” said Tenille Townes, one of eight headlining musicians touring with the train. “I can’t wait to see so much of Canada from the snowy window view and meet up with our friends coming to the shows we are playing all along the way. And it’s all in support of the food bank and making sure people are fed and taken care of this holiday season.”

A full schedule, map, live train tracker, photos and artist information are available at cpr.ca/holidaytrain. Follow the train through CP’s Twitter, Facebook and Instagram channels @CanadianPacific.

SiriusXM Commissions Maxar to Build Two New Satellites, SXM-11 and SXM-12

0

Maxar Technologies and SiriusXM today announced a new agreement commissioning Maxar to build and deliver two new geostationary communications satellites for SiriusXM.

The SXM-11 and -12 satellite orders increase the total number of spacecraft in development for SiriusXM by Maxar to four, following the 2021 agreement for the construction of SXM-9 and -10.

“This investment reaffirms our commitment to satellite content delivery systems and cutting-edge technology,” said Bridget Neville, SiriusXM’s Senior Vice President of Satellite and Terrestrial Engineering and Operations. “SXM-11 and -12, along with SXM-9 and -10, will allow us to innovate and improve our service offerings for subscribers and will extend the continuous and reliable delivery of our audio entertainment content.”

“This agreement, in combination with SXM-9 and -10 ordered last year, shows one of Maxar’s greatest strengths—the advantage of performance at scale,” said Chris Johnson, Maxar’s Senior Vice President of Space. “These satellites will provide more capability to SiriusXM’s fleet, including an expanded service area and higher service quality. We continue to push for new ways to expand capability for commercial geostationary customers, keeping our leadership in this market secure and growing.”

There are more than 150 million SiriusXM-equipped vehicles on the road today that rely on SiriusXM’s proprietary satellite network, which is also a key delivery mechanism for the company’s 360L platform. SiriusXM with 360L combines satellite and streaming to ensure the best possible coverage across the US and Canada and the best customer experience. SiriusXM also offers a suite of satellite-delivered Marine and Aviation services that provide pilots and boaters important weather data and information directly to their cockpits.

SXM-11 and -12 will be twin high-powered digital audio radio satellites, built on Maxar’s proven 1300-class platform at the company’s manufacturing facilities in Palo Alto and San Jose, California. Maxar has been building satellites for SiriusXM for more than two decades, including the first-generation Sirius satellites launched in 2000, the second-generation Sirius satellites launched in 2009 and 2013, and the company’s current third-generation satellites, the first one of which started service in 2021. The delivery of SXM-11 and -12 will bring the number of Maxar-built spacecraft for SiriusXM to 13.
