Primus Announces Rescheduled A Tribute To Kings Tour Dates

0
Primus has announced rescheduled dates for their highly anticipated A Tribute To Kings tour, at which the Bay Area trio will play Rush’s classic 1977 album A Farewell to Kings in its entirety, in addition to their own music. The tour, originally scheduled for 2020, will take Primus to over 40 venues across the U.S. from August through October this fall. All dates will be opened by Wolfmother, with The Sword joining for a select dates. In a statement, the band says:
It’s been too long and Primus is excited to get back out on the road. We continue to monitor government restrictions and current health & safety protocols to bring “A Tribute To Kings” out on the road in 2021. With that said, we have slightly shifted the tour to begin in August and run through October. Check out the list of newly rescheduled dates. All original tickets will be honored. For those not able to attend newly rescheduled dates, a refund window is now available for the next 30 days from the original point of purchase.
Due to international travel advisories, Toronto is cancelled as we work to make new plans across multiple Canadian cities in 2022. Lafayette and Minneapolis were also unfortunately not able to fit into our immediate plans and have been cancelled.  Refunds will be issued from point of purchase. Tickets and more show info at www.primusville.com.
In a note to fans, the band’s frontman Les Claypool says:
Finally, the clouds are parting, the planets are aligning, the dough is rising…whatever metaphor floats your preverbal boat, PRIMUS is going on tour again. We were poised and ready for a massive, bent-rock extravaganza when the gremlins of covid came and yanked the rug out from under us all. I personally have been climbing the walls like a shit-house rat and, after my first season off in 30 some odd years, I’m very anxious and excited to stand in front of the microphone with my four string piece of furniture and belt out some girthy ditties to sweaty throngs of punters.
C’mon Down,
Les Claypool

Chris Birkett’s Mission to “Save Our Beautiful World” One Stunning Song at a Time

0

Canadian singer/songwriter, composer, and producer powerhouse Chris Birkett is back and, this time, he’s not alone: the multi-JUNO Award winner and Platinum-selling producer is out to save the world with his new collective, The Happy Campers — and an arsenal of songs that take the musician in a brand-new direction creatively.

Birkett is one of the great music producers of our era, working with Buffy Sainte-Marie, Mel Brooks, Steve Earle, Bob Geldof, Alison Moyet, Dexys Midnight Runners, Talking Heads, The Pogues, and The Proclaimers — not to mention, just celebrated the 30th anniversary of producing Sinead O’Connor’s seismic release I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got — seamlessly weaves his prowess as a leader in the industry among the variety of projects he designs and oversees — The Happy Campers and “Save Our Beautiful World” among them.

During a production session with Berber musician Madjid Chaoui in Paris, the pair collaborated on a powerful climate awareness track combining Chaoui’s already written melodies with new lyrics written by Birkett. The result was “Save Our Beautiful World”, a tale timelessly told as an urgent reminder to protect Mother Nature.

Listening to the radio, Birkett heard a First Nations Elder describe the visible signs of melting permafrost in the Northwest Territories as “wavy roads everywhere”; he then used that very line in “Save Our Beautiful World.”

Envisioning children’s voices, he wrote the rest of the lyrics from a child’s perspective. The song features six verses, each designed to paint an important portrait in what this generation sees — and their pleas serve as a call to action.

The sincerity of the children’s choir, and the innocence of each talented youngster who takes each verse to task, generates an entirely new perspective on the importance of recognizing our responsibility to the Earth. Their voices serve as a humbling reminder that a new generation will be inheriting this world that we pass down to them, and it’s our duty to ensure that we’re protecting it.

During these sessions, Birkett had likewise been producing songs for music theatre performer, Colleen Aynn. “Colleen’s talented young daughter sings the first verse, followed by five other local kids, each singing a different verse,” Birkett explains, revealing a behind the scenes look at the making of the track.

“The accompanying video features the performances of these children, all from different cultural backgrounds,” he adds. “TVO Green Heroes’ director Joan Prowse combines fun animation created by Luke Murphy with beautiful scenes and wildlife images. It creates a heartfelt message from these cute kids that fills you with hope for the future.”

“Save Our Beautiful World” is a refreshing anthem that takes an even deeper look at how we’re treating what we’ve been given to enjoy, and implores each of us to do our part in sustaining its majesty.

“Save Our Beautiful World, She is all we have,” chant the children on the chorus. “Save Our Beautiful World, Mother Nature needs Us.”

Rife with Guitarmonies, Canadian Rockers THE MANDEVILLES Tune Out the BS in “Fading Colors in the Northern Lights”

0

Welland, ON five-piece The Mandevilles deliver a rollicking rocker of a shanty all their own in this, their new single “Fading Colors in the Northern Lights” — available now.

“Lyrically, it’s a bit ambiguous,” lead vocalist Serena Pryne nods, “but I love songs that leave room for the listener to make up their own minds about the story.

“For me, the song is about learning to let things roll off your back, and tuning out the bull****. It’s about letting go of senselessness, and of things that hurt your focus — like having the same argument over and over with someone.

“The main melody fell into my head when we were loading out after a show one night,” she recalls. “I sang it to myself for a few days; ‘something something morning light’… It finally came together in a session a couple of weeks later, and the words ‘Northern Lights’ just rolled off the tongue perfectly.”

“‘Fading Colors in the Northern Lights’ is our interpretation of a sea shanty,” the band — Pryne plus guitarist Nick Lesyk, synth/guitarist Taylor Laslo, bassist Dan Risi, and drummer Brett Bendo — add. “We were plowing through the rum and channelling that epic scene in the Goonies when Captain One Eyed Wily’s ship is freed back into the ocean…

“We went hard with hand claps, and kicked the **** out of a homemade stomp box.”

Beyond that, The Mandevilles layered ‘guitarmonies’ to give this song its dark, pulsating rhythm, with especially triumphant guitar styling in the bridge and outro. “Sonically, Nick was mimicking what a horn section might do to break the tension that builds through the whole song,” the band explains. “Think: Biffy Clyro, or Big Country.”

“Fading Colors in the Northern Lights” follows this year’s previous single, “Lightning,” as well as 2020’s trifecta of offerings, “Borne On The FM Waves Of The Heart,” “You Feel Like Nothing,” and “Junkie.” In addition to contributing to their more than 330,000+ stream stack across Spotify, the new song is also a preview of the tenured band’s forthcoming third album release.

“It’s been more than five years since the release of our last record,” The Mandevilles share, citing their 2014 sophomore LP, Windows and Stones; their 13-track debut, Goodnight Golden Sun, was released in 2012.

“The songs on this record have been in the making for the better part of two years,” they reveal. “We took our time because we wanted to; the writing, recording, and production process has never felt so natural.

“We cultivated such an amazing working and personal friendship with our co-producer, Neil Morrissey, and his former bandmate, Ryan Defoe, during that time as well; Neil and Ryan’s style of writing and arrangement was very similar to ours, so it was an instant connection.

“The record features a lot of experimentation,” they continue. “We got to stretch our repertoire out, and really get to use everyone’s abilities in a way we haven’t before. The songs really came to life because nobody knew what was about to happen.

“You’ll hear a difference — but know that everything you hear was thought of, and is there because we wanted it to be.”

“Fading Colors in the Northern Lights” is available now.

Tickets are available to the general public on May 21 at 10am local time. The Dublin quartet’s first full-length, It Won’t Always Be Like This, will be released on July 9th on Interscope Records and is available to pre-order here. It’s a record that sees Elijah Hewson (vocals and guitar), Josh Jenkinson (guitar), Robert Keating (bass) and Ryan McMahon (drums) turn their early promise into something special, an album teeming with expansive indie-rock grooves and soaring anthems. “We really had the opportunity to explore our sound,” says Hewson.

“We’re extremely happy to announce our next American venture,” says Inhaler. “Hard to believe we’ve gone this long without each other. Can’t wait to play you new music. “

The album includes the single “Cheer Up Baby,” a swooping, epic singalong alongside early fan favorites “My Honest Face” and title track “It Won’t Always Be Like This.” Inhaler made their U.S. television debut on The Late Late Show with James Corden in March where they performed “Cheer Up Baby.” Inhaler have amassed a diehard fanbase despite only releasing a handful of singles which have been streamed over 52 million times.

Inhaler will play a full tour of the UK and Ireland later this year before heading to the states for their March 2022 North American headline tour. The dates in September, October and December include brand new UK tour dates alongside the band’s rescheduled tour of Ireland.

A string of captivating singles and their fevered live show have earned them a diehard fanbase. The band were originally meant to begin recording It Won’t Always Be Like This in March 2020 but their plans were derailed by lockdown. Instead of moping, they used the period as a time to rethink and reimagine what their debut album could be.
