Wallows Return With New Single ā€œI Don’t Want To Talkā€ And North American Tour

0

Wallows make a triumphant return today with ā€œI Don’t Want to Talk,ā€ produced by Ariel Rechtshaid (Vampire Weekend, Haim, Adele). The single, their first release since February’s Remote (Deluxe) EP, is accompanied by the Jason Lester-directed official music video – WATCH HERE. ā€œI Don’t Want to Talkā€ was also featured on Apple’s New Music Daily today- check it out here.

ā€œā€™I Don’t Want to Talk’ is ultimately a song about insecurities. Not only in yourself, but in this case, particularly in a relationship. It centers around the fear of being away from someone for too long and that ultimately allowing the other person’s head to be turned by someone else, and instead of expressing those fears, completely shutting down and not wanting to talk about it at all,ā€ says Dylan Minnette

Wallows have also announced the first part of their 2022 Tell Me That It’s Over tour which begins in North America on April 1, 2022 in Seattle, WA (see full list of dates below). Tickets and limited VIP packages go on sale Friday, October 8th at 10am local time. Fans who sign up for Wallows newsletter will have first access to tickets and VIP packages via a special pre-sale starting Tuesday, October 5th at 10am local time and running through Thursday, October 7th at 10pm local time (while supplies last).

VIP packages include early entry to the venue, an exclusive signed poster, tote bag, hat, commemorative VIP laminate, and first access to merchandise.. Additional dates, including international shows, will be announced soon.

Wallows, the Los Angeles-based trio of Dylan Minnette, Braeden Lemasters and Cole Preston, released their acclaimed Atlantic Records debut album, Nothing Happens, in 2019. Produced by GRAMMYĀ® Award-winner John Congleton (St. Vincent, Alvvays, Future Islands) who also produced the band’s 2018 EP Spring, the album quickly became one of the most-streamed debut albums by any band in 2019 and features the breakthrough platinum single ā€œAre You Bored Yet? (Feat. Clairo),ā€ which has surpassed 607M global streams. 2020 saw Wallows release ā€œOK,ā€ a song that took on a new meaning during the pandemic, and their quarantine-made EP, Remote, as well as being named MTV’s PUSH Artist of the Month for September. Wallows return in 2021 with brand new single ā€œI Don’t Want to Talkā€ – a first taste of their collaboration with producer Ariel Rechtshaid (Vampire Weekend, Haim, Adele) that’s been in the works over the past year.

JESSE COOK Announces Release of 11th Studio Album, Libre, Out December 3

0

What happens when you let multi-Platinum/Gold award-winning producer, composer, and guitarist Jesse Cook’s Spanish guitar off-leash with Algerian multi-instrumentalist Fethi Nadjem and some 808 trap beats? You get Cook’s newly-announced album, Libre — coming December 3rd.

His 11th studio offering, the release receives its first preview with title-track single, ā€œLibreā€ — available now.

ā€œI wrote and recorded Libre during the pandemic when, like most people, I was longing for freedom,ā€ Cook shares of the new project. ā€œMy music was my escape from the four walls that surrounded me, and the storm that was swirling outside.ā€

The inspiration came from a long summer-day drive with his 14-year old, Cook reveals. ā€œMy daughter entertained me with her favourite playlists, much of which were trap and 808-inspired. I loved them too, and a question was planted in my mind: ā€˜what would my music sound like mixed with those sounds?ā€™ā€

He wasn’t short on material to draw from; it’s been more than 25 years since the internationally-lauded virtuoso first stepped onto the scene with his now-iconic release, Tempest. In the time since, he’s come to hold ten Gold and Platinum studio albums with a combined sales of 2+ Million copies, five concert DVDs and live discs, five PBS specials, and multiple awards — a JUNO win, 11 nominations, three Canadian Smooth Jazz Awards, a Gemini, and an Acoustic Guitar Magazine Player’s Choice Silver Award.

The digital convergence of the past several years has also resulted in Cook’s music streamed in rather impressive numbers across a series of platforms; by September 2021, his Spotify stats had surpassed 55+ Million, and plays on Pandora soaring beyond the 300+ Million milestone. YouTube’s universally visual appeal has also grown steadily for Cook’s connection with audiences, with his channel accumulating upwards of 25+ Million views since 2010.

It was this ready-set relationship online with his legions of fans worldwide that inspired Cook through the unexpected over the course of the past 18 months. With gear cases locked and loaded, about to set off on a national 25-date tour marking Tempest’s monumental anniversary just as COVID-19 shuttered stages, and beyond, Cook made use of the time since through a series of creative experiments — including re-visiting hits like ā€œWednesday Night at Etric’s,” ā€œTempest,ā€ and more — unveiling them in relative real-time across his social profiles.

At 10 tracks, which will see re-treatments on the likes of ā€œOne World One Voice,ā€ ā€œJaleo,ā€ ā€œHey!ā€ and more, the release of Libre continues this string of Cook revisiting his distinct repertoire down newly explored sonic streets.

But while it may sound like a new style for both long-time fans and those newly gathered across Cook’s thousands of concerts and millions of livestream views the world-over, reconnecting with an 808 sound takes Cooks all the way back to his beginnings.

ā€œI was in Grade 10 when the Roland TR808 drum machine was first released,ā€ Cook says. ā€œI remember pooling my money together with friends in order to rent one for our mad basement recording sessions. We were spellbound; all of its drum sounds were made by an on-board analogue synthesizer, which gave it this other-worldly quality.

ā€œOf course, I had no idea that, all these years later, the 808 would come to define so many forms of music — from hip hop, to rap, pop, reggaeton, and trap… And now, I get to incorporate it into my own.

ā€œFor many of my fans, it may seem like a huge departure for me to record an album dominated by 808 beats but, to me, it feels like I’m coming full circle… Kinda like when wide leg jeans came around again; it’s a bit like coming home.ā€

Libre will be available December 3, 2021. ā€œLibreā€ is available now.

ā€œWasted Daysā€ is the first single off of Mellencamp’s forthcoming album slated for release in 2022.

The drop is accompanied by a companion collection of 333 unique hand-drawings. The companion pieces will be minted at pussyriot.love for .1312 ETH each. Inspired by their shared love for rebellion, plants, cows, and psychedelics are several collaborations with Trippy. Proceeds from the project support victims of domestic violence in Russia, currently incarcerated political prisoners, and Pussy Riot’s own ongoing activism and art.

Pussy Riot: “I’ve decided to work with papers from my prison sentence and to overcome the negative experience, I decided to subvert it with colorful, childish, happy pictures. I wanted to transform my traumatic experience into something positive as much as possible.”

It was 9 years ago when three members of the punk art feminist movement, Pussy Riot, were sentenced to 2 years in prison. Pussy Riot’s imprisonment started a global art-artivist movement. Thousands of people around the world protested in support of the women arrested for speaking against church leaders supporting Putin.

Guardian named, Virgin Mary, Please Get Rid of Putin, among the best art pieces of the XXI century ~ “…feminist, explicitly anti-Putin, protesting the banning of gay pride and the Orthodox church’s support of the president.ā€ Dale Eisinger, writer and reporter for Complex, ranked Punk Prayer the 14th best work of performance art in history. Madonna, Banksy, Paul McCartney, Bjork, Sting, Sergey Brin, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Yoko Ono, Marina Abramovic, Ai Weiwei, Peaches, Chloe Sevigny, Garry Kasparov, and others expressed support for Pussy Riot and her message.

Tiktok Star Reiley Soars With ā€œSupermanā€ Single And Video

0

Rising pop sensationĀ ReileyĀ has premiered his highly anticipated sophomore single ā€œSuperman,ā€ arriving today alongside a compelling self-directed video companion. The track marks the latest offering from his forthcoming debut EP,Ā brb, having an identity crisis,Ā arriving October 27thĀ viaĀ AtlanticĀ Records.

Co-written byĀ Reiley, ā€œSupermanā€ sees the him tearfully confront the ripple effect of addiction on his family.Ā ā€œIt’s a song about disappointment,ā€Ā he admits.Ā ā€œIt explores my relationship with my father. He’s struggled with alcoholism. Before I got signed, his addiction got so bad it almost broke up our family. When I wrote ā€˜Superman,’ I had so many emotions bottled up: pain, resentment, fear, empathy, pity. Even a sense of loss. Above all I was so incredibly disappointed. I grew up idolizing my father and thought he was infallible. But he’s only human. I think the realization that your parents can do wrong is always scary.ā€

Born to remote origins in the Faroe Islands (about 200 miles north of the UK with a population of just over 50,000 people),Ā ReileyĀ quietly made a global impact with an exuberant presence as loud as his traffic-stopping voice and as colorful as his runway-ready aesthetic. During 2020, he embraced TikTok (@reiley) as a way to connect with listeners far and wide. Against a colorful backdrop, he belted hits into a silver mic practically floating in front of him, ultimately generating nearly 1 billion views, inciting 128 million likes, and attracting nearly 11 million followers.

ā€œSupermanā€ followsĀ Reiley’s infectious debut single ā€œLet It Ringā€ – which was deemedĀ ā€œalready historicā€Ā byĀ PAPERĀ upon release earlier this year, in addition to receiving praise from the likes ofĀ Billboard,Ā Cosmopolitan,Ā FlauntĀ & more. The track, penned/produced byĀ LostboyĀ (Zedd,Ā Bebe Rexha),Ā LaurenĀ AquilinaĀ (RinaĀ Sawayama,Ā Olivia O’Brien) &Ā JHartĀ (Jennifer Lopez,Ā Camila Cabello), features the first-ever licensed sample of the instantly recognizable official iPhone ringtone and has picked up an incredible 10 million plus streams in addition to over 2 million YouTube views since its release.

The singer, songwriter, director, producer, and personality properly tells his story in his own words on his forthcomingĀ brb, having an identity crisisĀ EP, and much more to come in 2021. ā€œAs an artist, it’s my job to bare my soul and reveal my true self,ā€Ā he explains.Ā ā€œI hope, if you’ve had similar experiences to mine, you can find comfort in knowing you’re not alone. At the end of the day, that’s really why I’m here.ā€

Depeche Mode To Release High Definition Version of “101” Doc Film With Unreleased Performance Footage

0

On December 3 Depeche Mode will release a newly upgraded expanded definitive box set edition ofĀ 101Ā documentary concert film and live album chronicling the 101st and final performance of the band’s Music For The Masses world tour, recorded live at the Pasadena Rose Bowl on June 18, 1988.

A groundbreaking collaborative documentary,Ā 101Ā was co-directed by acclaimed husband-and-wife filmmaking team D.A. Pennebaker (Dont Look Back) and Chris Hegedus (The War Room) with active creative input from Depeche Mode, who’d held an exclusive contest for fans offering an appearance in a Depeche Mode movie as the prize.Ā 101‘s narrative through-line of contest winners traveling across America to attend Depeche Mode’s landmark Rose Bowl concert is a cinematic precursor to the youth culture trend in “reality tv” programming. Depeche Mode’sĀ 101Ā captures the electrifying synergy between the band and their fans.

This new HD edition ofĀ 101: A film by D.A. Pennebaker, Chris Hegedus, David DawkinsĀ has been meticulously upgraded using 4k scans of the original film reels to create an all-new viewing experience.

TheĀ 101Ā Blu-ray includes three previously unseen bonus performances of “A Question of Lust,” “Sacred” and “Something To Do” plus the official promotional video for “Everything Counts.”

Additional contents in the new, limited editionĀ Depeche Mode 101Ā box set include: a 48 page behind-the-scenes story of the day photo book; a 20″ x 30″ replica of original US theatrical release movie poster; a 16 page Anton CorbijnĀ Photo ModeĀ book as featured in the original album release; a double CD of the original 20 trackĀ 101Ā concert release; and a Download Card providing access to 4K downloads of the film and bonus performances plus 24-bit audio files of theĀ 101Ā concert release. The two DVDs in the set contain the original extras from the 2003 DVD release of Depeche Mode –Ā 101, which are exclusive to the DVD discs.

“It’s incredible to be able to see D.A. Pennebaker’s film and this period of our career presented in this new high-definition light,” said Depeche Mode.

“We were thrilled to partner with Sony Music on the digital restoration ofĀ Depeche Mode 101, definitely one of our all-time favorite films and one of our favorite filmmaking experiences,” saidĀ 101Ā co-director Chris Hegedus. “DM 101‘s parallel realities following the historic tour of this pioneering British band as they storm across America bringing an exciting new sound to the masses, along with an intimate view of a bus load of ardent young fans on an unforgettable road trip to the Rose Bowl made this documentary a groundbreaking influence on the reality genre. Making this movie was a grand adventure for both of us (Pennebaker and Hegedus)…. By the end of the tour, we became their biggest fans. We are excited to introduce this new release to audiences.”

In 2020 Depeche Mode releasedĀ SPiRiTS in the ForestĀ which Forbes described as ā€œthe new gold standard for concert films,ā€ with director and longtime collaborator Anton Corbijn. This was recorded at the close of the record-breaking two-year Global Spirit Tour, which saw the band play to over 3 million fans at 115 shows around the world. In November they closed the year with their induction into the legendary Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Depeche Mode – Live At The Pasadena Rose Bowl, June 19, 1988 – songs:

Master And Servant • Pimpf • Behind The Wheel • Strangelove Blasphemous Rumours • Stripped • Somebody • Black Celebration Pleasure, Little Treasure • Just Can’t Get Enough • Everything Counts Never Let Me Down Again

David Bowie’s “Toy” Album Set To Be Released

0

Parlophone Records/ISO Records are proud to announce two David Bowie landmarks: 26thĀ November 2021 will see the release ofĀ DAVID BOWIE 5. BRILLIANT ADVENTURE (1992 – 2001),Ā the fifth in a series of box sets chronicling his careerĀ from 1969 to the 21stĀ century. Then on 7th January 2022,Ā the day before David’s birthday,Ā TOY (TOY:BOX)Ā will receive its long awaited official release, finally making theĀ legendary previouslyĀ unreleased albumĀ available inĀ three CD / six 10ā€ vinyl versions.

The latest in anĀ award-winning and critically acclaimedĀ series of box sets includingĀ DAVID BOWIEĀ 1. FIVE YEARS (1969 – 1973),Ā DAVID BOWIEĀ 2. WHO CAN I BE NOW? (1974 – 1976),Ā DAVID BOWIEĀ 3. A NEW CAREER IN A NEW TOWN (1977 – 1982)Ā andĀ DAVID BOWIEĀ 4. LOVING THE ALIEN (1983-1988),Ā DAVID BOWIE 5. BRILLIANT ADVENTURE (1992 – 2001)Ā isĀ an eleven CD box, eighteen-piece vinyl set and standard digital download box set. The collectionĀ isĀ named afterĀ the Koto led instrumental penultimate track from theĀ ā€˜hours…’ album. The box sets include newly remastered versions, with input from the originalĀ producers and collaborators, ofĀ some ofĀ Bowie’s most underrated and experimentalĀ material:Ā BLACK TIE WHITE NOISE,Ā THE BUDDHA OF SUBURBIAĀ (available on vinyl for the first timeĀ in nearly 30 years),Ā 1.OUTSIDE,Ā EARTHLINGĀ andĀ ā€˜hours…’ along with the expanded live albumĀ BBC RADIO THEATRE, LONDON, JUNE 27, 2000, the non-album / alternative version / B-sides and soundtrack musicĀ compilationĀ RE:CALL 5Ā and the legendaryĀ previouslyĀ unreleasedĀ TOY.

TOYĀ was recorded following David’s triumphant Glastonbury 2000Ā performance. Bowie entered the studio with his band, Mark Plati, SterlingĀ Campbell, Gail Ann Dorsey, Earl Slick, Mike Garson, Holly Palmer and EmmĀ Gryner, to record new interpretations of songs he’d first recorded fromĀ 1964-1971. David planned to record the album ā€˜old school’ with the bandĀ playing live, choose the best takes and then release it as soon as humanly possible in a remarkably prescient manner. Unfortunately, in 2001 the concept of theĀ ā€˜surprise drop’ album release and the technology to support it were still quiteĀ a fewĀ years off, making it impossible to releaseĀ TOY, as the album was nowĀ named, out to fans as instantly as David wanted. In the interim, David did whatĀ he did best; he moved on to something new, which began with a handful ofĀ new songs from the same sessions and ultimately became the albumĀ HEATHEN,Ā released in 2002 and now acknowledged as one of his finest moments.

Now twenty years after its originally planned release, David’s co-producer MarkĀ Plati says, “Toy is like a moment in time captured in an amber of joy, fireĀ and energy. It’s the sound of people happy to be playing music. DavidĀ revisited and re-examined his work from decades prior through prisms ofĀ experienceĀ and fresh perspective – a parallel not lost on me as I now revisit itĀ twenty years later. From time to time, he used to say ā€˜Mark, this is our album’ –Ā I think because he knew I was so deeply in the trenches with him on thatĀ journey. I’m happy to finally be able to say it now belongs to all of usā€.
Available inĀ 3CD or 6×10ā€ vinylĀ formats,Ā TOY (TOY:BOX)Ā isĀ aĀ special edition of theĀ TOYĀ album. TheĀ ā€˜capture the moment’ approach of the recording sessionsĀ are extended to the sleeveĀ artwork designed by Bowie featuring a photo of him as a baby with aĀ contemporary face. TheĀ package also contains a 16-page full-colour bookĀ featuring previously unseen photographs by Frank Ockenfels 3.

The seeds ofĀ TOYĀ wereĀ firstĀ sown in 1999Ā during the making ofĀ an episode ofĀ VH-1 Storytellers. DavidĀ wanted to perform something from his pre-ā€˜SpaceĀ Oddity’ career, so he reached back to 1966 and dustedĀ off Ā ā€˜Can’t Help Thinking About Me’ for the first time in thirtyĀ years. The song remained in the setlist forĀ the short promotional tour forĀ theĀ ā€˜hours…’ album, and in early 2000 David and producer MarkĀ Plati compiled a list of some of Bowie’s earliest songs toĀ re-record.

TOYĀ finishes with a new song from which the album takes its title,Ā ‘Toy (Your Turn To Drive)’ was constructed from a jam at the end of one ofĀ the live takes of ā€˜I Dig Everything’. The track is based around rearrangedĀ sections of Sterling Campbell’s drums, Gail Ann Dorsey’s bass and sectionsĀ of MikeĀ Garson’s piano were looped along with a guitar line of EarlĀ Slick’s that was sampled, time stretched and used as a repeating figure.Ā Lastly, some of Holly and Emm’s backing vocals from the body of ā€˜Dig Everything’ were cut up and reassembled. Producer Mark Plati “As it wasĀ culled from ā€˜I DigĀ Everything’ it makes sense to bookend the album with thisĀ track – it’s also a fitting postscript to theĀ TOYĀ eraā€.

Included inĀ TOY:BOXĀ is a second CD/set of 10ā€s of alternative mixes andĀ versions including proposed B-Sides (versions of David’s debut singleĀ ā€˜Liza Jane’ and 1967’s ā€˜In The Heat Of The Morning’), later mixes by TonyĀ Visconti and the ā€˜Tibet Version’ of ā€˜Silly Boy Blue’ recorded at TheĀ LookingĀ Glass Studio time at the of the 2001 Tibet House show in New YorkĀ featuring Philip Glass on piano and Moby on guitar.

The third CD/set of 10ā€s features ‘Unplugged & Somewhat Slightly Electric’ mixes of thirteenĀ TOYĀ tracks. Producer Mark Plati “While we wereĀ recording the basic tracks Earl Slick suggested that he and I overdubĀ acoustic guitars on all the songs. He said this was a Keith Richards’ trick, sometimesĀ these guitars would be a featured part of the track, andĀ at other times they’d be more subliminal. Later while mixing, David heardĀ one of the songs broken down to just vocals and acoustic guitars; this gave himĀ the idea that we ought to do some stripped-down mixes like that andĀ that maybe one dayĀ they’d be useful. Once we put a couple of other elements inĀ the pot, it felt like it could be a completely different record. I wasĀ only too happy to finish that thought some two decades after the factā€.
Exclusive toĀ DAVID BOWIE 5. BRILLIANT ADVENTURE (1992 – 2001)Ā box set areĀ BBC RADIO THEATRE, LONDON, JUNE 27,Ā 2000Ā andĀ RE:CALL 5. The former was recorded two days after theĀ famous Glastonbury performance in front of 500 lucky fans at the BBC’s artĀ deco theatre in central London. Selections from the show were available as the third CD inĀ aĀ very limited 3CD edition ofĀ BOWIE AT THE BEEBĀ in September 2000Ā but the full concert has never before been available onĀ vinyl.Ā RE:CALL 5Ā features 39 non-album / alternative version /Ā b-sides and soundtrack songs over 3CDs and 4LPs.

The physical box set’s accompanying book, 84 pages in the CD box and 128 in theĀ vinyl set, will feature rarely seen and previously unpublished photos by photographersĀ including Frank W. Ockenfels 3, Nick Knight, John Scarisbrick and Nina SchultzĀ Terner and others, as well as memorabilia, technical notesĀ about the albums fromĀ producers/engineers Brian Eno, Nile Rodgers, Reeves Gabrels and Mark Plati as well as aĀ new an interview withĀ THE BUDDHA OF SUBURBIAĀ collaboratorĀ Erdal Kizilçay.

The CD box set will include faithfully reproduced mini-vinyl versions of theĀ original albums where applicable, and the CDs will be gold coloured rather thanĀ the usual silver. The vinyl box set has the same content as the CD set andĀ is pressed on audiophile quality 180g vinyl.

Imperial Ashes Shine a Blinding Light on the Darkness of Neocolonialism & Indigenous Injustice in ā€œA Toxic Lifeā€

0

In an urgent call-to-action to address injustices and atrocities that have plagued Indigenous communities for centuries, Toronto, ON-based rock band Imperial Ashes dive to new lyrical depths to shine a blinding light on neocolonialism in this, their new song, ā€œA Toxic Lifeā€ — available now.

Continuing to craft a soundscape that is fresh, yet familiar, it’s their fourth single released under the guided stewardship of multi-Grammy-winning producer David Bottrill (Muse, Rush, Tool), and accomplished music engineer/mixer Michael Phillips (Stone Sour, Between the Buried and Me).

ā€œA Toxic Lifeā€ is inspired by the personal journey of the band’s lead vocalist, Rayna Elizabeth; she chose to re-examine Canadian history after Dr. Ian Mosby published his work about government-sanctioned research conducted forcefully on starving Indigenous children. ā€œHe showed that First Nations people were used by the Canadian government as unwitting subjects in experiments so that scientists and bureaucrats could gain knowledge about malnutrition to further their political and professional interests.ā€ The research would not only change her settler perspective on her homeland forever, but would also tie-in with the band’s overall theme of highlighting injustices.

Armed with raw, instrumental talent, and stellar production value, Imperial Ashes have taken the stereotypical trappings of a hard rock/metal band and burned them to the ground. Along with the band’s signature sound, Rayna’s visceral lyrics pull no punches in calling out government hypocrisy and spotlighting the genocidal atrocities that have, and continue to occur, across Canada.

ā€œAttawapiskat is screaming, you cover your ears
Poisoning water, Wet’suwet’en fears
Sterilization, your genocidal sins
No concern of yours to find the M.M.I. Womenā€

Imperial Ashes is challenging the status quo by harnessing the incredible power of rock to bring consciousness to a genre of music typically chastised for promoting controversy and vulgarity. Sophisticated metal compositions seamlessly weave through cerebral conversations on the fight for social justice and equality.

The unapologetic urgency with which Imperial Ashes speak on human rights abuses coincides with the band’s origins; a community activist for the past several years, it was during her master’s thesis research on wealth inequality and stigma that Rayna became inspired to make a difference using her voice with an incomparable passion and conviction alongside a band of skilled sonic assassins.

The dramatic new single from Imperial Ashes, ā€œA Toxic Life,ā€ is available now.
