Adam Hambrick Releases Debut EP “The Flipsides”

0

Capitol Records Nashville/Buena Vista Records/Universal Music Canada’s Adam Hambrick released his major label debut EP titled, The Flipsides, today. The EP is comprised of six “soulful, pop-country tracks” (The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette) in which Hambrick masterfully shares his life’s stories through his songs. Hambrick effortlessly blends an array of musical styles in his new EP, combining his distinct vocals with his talent for songwriting, stamping his fingerprint on the music from start to finish.

The Flipsides EP is the blueprint of how I approach country music,” says Hambrick of his new project. “It’s real instruments and colorful songwriting put together in a modern way. After 2020 sidelined most of our plans, it now feels really good to get this project out to my fans, who have been so patient. Now we have something to build on for the future.”

The EP includes the “minor, almost angst-filled feel” (American Songwriter) of “Sunshine State Of Mind” to the sly and sexy “The Longer I Lay Here” which rising country artist Jillian Jacqueline lends her vocals. The reflective “Kill A Man” and the ethereal “When It All Sinks In” are immediately gratifying, but in keeping with his musical mission, their biggest reward is their long-term value, the payoff from exploring the layers of sound and pockets of meaning that are key to understanding Hambrick. The multiple styles that feed his brand of country are authentic, but so is his commitment to songs that stand the test of time.

Adam grew up in both Mississippi and Arkansas, being influenced by artists such as Alan Jackson, Garth Brooks, John Mayer and The Foo Fighters. From an early age, Adam’s musical roots were grounded in the church singing hymns with his family, where his dad was a Baptist pastor and his mom played piano. After graduating from the University of Central Arkansas, the singer-songwriter made an appearance on KATV’s Good Morning Arkansas, a local Little Rock, Arkansas ABC affiliate, where fellow Arkansas-native and country star Justin Moore happened to be watching and was impressed by Adam’s unique voice and distinctive songs. Soon after, Justin’s producer Jeremy Stover reached out opening the door for Adam to move to Nashville and pursue music full-time. Adam has written a multitude of songs and has received numerous cuts for other artists including Miranda Lambert and Eli Young Band, as well as, No. 1 hits for Dan + Shay (“How Not To”) and Justin Moore (“Somebody Else Will”). Adam has continued to hone his songwriting and vocal skills, while performing live with artists including Brett Young, Jordan Davis, LANCO, and more. Adam released his first two singles “Rockin’ All Night Long” and “Forever Ain’t Long Enough.”

Yungblud Soundtracks Nasa’s Perseverance Rover Landing On Mars With Cover Of David Bowie’s “Life On Mars?”

0

YUNGBLUD’s cover of the classic David Bowie song “Life on Mars?” was heard on NASA live streams shortly after the Perseverance Mars Rover touched down on the Red Planet. The David Bowie Estate offered the song to celebrate this monumental event. YUNGBLUD performed “Life on Mars?” during last month’s “A Bowie Celebration: Just For One Day!” concert produced by Mike Garson and Rolling Live Studios. Bowie’s original version of “Life on Mars?” appeared on his 1971 album Hunky Dory.

YUNGBLUD says, “To sing the pinnacle song by an artist that truly defined my whole existence, in a search for extraterrestrial existence was one of the best moments of my entire life. The punx went to Mars!”

“It was amazing working with YUNGBLUD and I’m honored that Rolling Live, Mike Garson, and Bowie Band alumni got to play a part in bringing an iconic song to mark this historic moment,” Kerry Brown, CEO/Founder of Rolling Live Studios, said of the Perseverance landing.

Perseverance is the most sophisticated rover NASA has ever sent to Mars, with a name that embodies NASA’s passion to take on and overcome challenges. It will collect Martian rock and sediment samples for future return to Earth, search for signs of ancient microbial life, characterize the planet’s geology and climate, and pave the way for human exploration beyond the Moon. A new song of YUNGBLUD’s entitled “mars” appears on his album Weird!, which debuted at No. 1 on the UK Official Album Chart in December 2020. Watch’s YUNGBLUD’s recent performance of “Life On Mars” on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” here.

Corey Hart Releases Timely New Single “Shoreline”

0

The inimitable Canadian singer-songwriter Corey Hart has released a moving new single today. “Shoreline” sees Corey collaborate with Dante, one of his four children on the self-produced track. The new music arrives with a beautiful music video, featuring father and daughter together on the shoreline, singing a message of hope and optimism. A live acoustic performance that was filmed at Sanctuary Studios in Nassau, Bahamas will follow on March 12th.

Corey says of the single “I’m excited to be releasing ‘Shoreline’ as it represents my first new songwriting material since Dreaming Time Again EP in early 2019. It has been an absolute joy working with my fabulous daughter Dante. Of course – I’m perfectly biased but all subjectivity aside, she’s a super talented young artist so having her mellifluous voice on the recording makes this particular single all the more special.”

Dante Hart adds, “Having the opportunity to sing ‘Shoreline’ with my Dad meant the world to me. He doesn’t often collaborate so it was a true honor and an incredible experience working together in the studio for one of his recordings. ‘Shoreline’ has depth and relevance to what’s going on in today’s world. The message resonates deep within me as I’m sure it will to many others – so proud of my Daddy.”

Of the genesis of the song, Corey says “I set out to write an uplifting track sprinkled with feel-good music colours like mandolin, B3 organ, and piano. ‘Shoreline’ draws its initial inspiration from the classic poem No Man Is An Island by John Donne. There’s no denying COVID-19 has negatively impacted all of us in some shape or form. I believe we are all part of something much greater than ourselves — nobody lives or can exist completely alone. Human interaction is essential to our well-being, which has made life during the pandemic even more difficult to cope with. I’ve always chosen to walk on the sunrise side of the mountain so I’m going to hang tough and not give in to any dark pessimism; I’m certain it’s only a matter of time until land meets the sea again.”

Mike Shinoda Of Linkin Park Captures The Moment With New Single “Happy Endings” Featuring Iann Dior & Upsahl

Today, Linkin Park’s multi-platinum GRAMMY Award-winning singer, songwriter, and producer Mike Shinoda returns with a brand new single entitled “Happy Endings” featuring genre-bending, platinum-selling artist iann dior & Arizona pop spitfire UPSAHL.

Bouncing with frenetic energy, this upbeat anthem manages a pitch-perfect story of frustration with the start of 2021. Shinoda once again challenges sonic boundaries, inviting iann dior and UPSAHL to join him at a nexus between alternative, hip-hop, and pop in an intimate and inimitable collaboration. “Happy Endings” culminates on the powerful, provocative, and pensive refrain, “Still at least in my mind, I’m feeling like I’m the hero that saves me.

Shinoda paved the way for “Happy Endings” earlier this week via social media, Twitch, and cryptocurrency authorities. Teasing out its impending arrival in groundbreaking fashion, he becomes the first major label artist to launch a single via NFT auction. The 75-second clip immediately piqued interest among fans and tastemakers; the final top 10 bidders will each receive an original print of the single artwork signed by Shinoda and contemporary artist Cain Caser. Proceeds from the auction will benefit ArtCenter College of Design. Coin Telegraph and Musicxtechxfuture discussed Shinoda’s embrace of NFTs. He’ll be the featured interview on The Needle Drop’s Twitch channel at 10am PT this morning with Anthony Fantano.

Shinoda has spent the better part of the past year creating brand new music with fans and teaching production live each morning on Twitch, and, in recent weeks, producing tracks by fans—a dream come true for the artists, mostly found on social media. Both Spin and Forbes chronicled his “Dropped Frames” series; Alt Press described it as “unlike anything he’s ever done” and mxdwn added, “The album is unique and definitely stands on its own.

“Journals Live from the drew house” was a special moment for TikTok, but also for Justin, as it marked his first-ever performance of songs from his fan-favorite 2013 album JOURNALS. The buzz surrounding the Valentine’s Day performance caused a resurgence in the popularity of the album, ushering JOURNALS past the 3 billion all-time streams landmark. Project highlights “All That Matters” and “Heartbreaker” reached charts in multiple countries, and the buzz surrounding the performance had a rising tide effect on the rest of the artist’s catalog–Bieber’s newest single “Anyone” ascended to the #1 spot on iTunes over the weekend.

With over 20.3 million followers–a 700k increase since the announcement of #JournalsLive, Justin Bieber is an active member of the TikTok community, using his account to reveal behind-the-scenes footage, partake in the latest trends, and more. His first-ever TikTok, which included a snippet of his hit song “Yummy” (which was a big TikTok hit with over 5 million video creations) generated over 117 million views. Justin declared his devotion to his wife Hailey with a stylish video soundtracked by his single “Anyone.” Justin is currently trending worldwide with his benny blanco collab “Lonely,” which has over 872k video creations and more than 5 billion video views.

After closing out 2020 with three smash singles — “Holy,” with Chance The Rapper, “Lonely” with benny blanco, and “Monster” with Shawn Mendes — Justin Bieber rang in the new year with a brand new single “Anyone,” and his return to the live stage in a blow-out NYE livestreamed concert. Justin continues to reign as one of the biggest artists in the world: the #1 artist on YouTube with 60+ million subscribers, the #2 artist on Spotify global with over 65 million monthly listeners, over 200 million in combined U.S. radio audience per week, three tracks in the Billboard Top 40, and three Grammy nominations and an American Music Award for his 2020 album Changes.

Portugal The Man To Release “Oregon City Sessions” Via Free Stream On YouTube And Twitch

0

Following the groundbreaking launch last month of PTM Coin, a new community-driven cryptocurrency, critically-acclaimed and Grammy-Award winning band Portugal The Man today announced a FREE stream of the highly coveted “Oregon City Sessions” performance that fans have been clamoring for since 2009. The event is set for Friday, February 26 at 6PM PST and will stream on Portugal The Man’s YouTube page (https://www.youtube.com/portugalthemanband) and Twitch channel. In addition, the band will host a “Backstage Hangout” co-viewing and Q&A event on the band’s Discord server exclusively for fans holding 10 or more PTM Coin. The band will simultaneously host the pre-sale to the vinyl and CD editions of Oregon City Sessions which will be released in stores in June 2021.  There will be a 24-hour pre-sale and store wide sale. During its first week alone, PTM Coin drove more than $111k USD in total transaction volume and more than $1000 in fan-to-fan transactions.

Portugal The Man had been a band for just over 2 years and in that period, they had released 3 full-lengths, 1 EP, and a couple standalone singles.  In that same period, they had also performed just shy of 500 shows.  This young band from Alaska was riding a creative wave that is rarely seen coupled with the most hardcore work ethic.  Alaskans are tough and this band was tougher.

Driving from city to city, buying bulk bags of rice and a couple times a week splurging with some items with their Feed The Beat bucks, PTM was committed.  They ended tour in December of 2008 and instead of taking a much-needed break made the decision that they needed to record the culmination of what their live performance had become.  Finding a rare gem of a studio in the suburbs of Portland.   They piled into the studio with all their live gear and a handful of friends with handheld cameras.  Longtime collaborator and filmmaker Graham (Baclagon) Agcaolli and engineer/mixer Jacob Portrait (who would later join Unknown Mortal Orchestra) would help to document.

Run the full set, one time through.  No re-takes. No overdubs.  Just the band in its natural form.

What next? In typical PTM fashion they were heading into the studio a couple weeks later to record their next album “The Satanic Satanist” and “Oregon City Sessions” got put on a shelf.  Why release old music when you can release new music.  There it sat for over a decade.  A select few saw the full film.  The band, their manager or tour manager would occasionally offer to go over to people’s homes screen it for them.  Sometimes in the parking lot the band would screen a handful of songs to the local supporters.  They forged friendships but whenever asked the answer would always be “yeah, we will release that at some point”.

2021.  The band has been off the road for well over a year, by far the longest break from the road since they started and the time just seems right.  Here is “Oregon City Sessions” dug out of the archives.  Untouched, unchanged from the day it was finished.  It is a time capsule of a band finding its way.  A snapshot of young raw talent before they won awards, before they sold millions of records, before they headlined festivals.  Just a couple kids from Alaska wanting to travel the world and play music

Fans can now go to Rally.io to buy PTM Coin and join other fans in a just-launched Discord community for PTM Coin holders. For step-by-step instructions click this tutorial video.

In addition to joining the “Backstage Hangout,” PTM Coin holder benefits currently include:

  • Fan-Generated Audio Archive: Includes unreleased music, live shows and outtakes from the band’s more than 1,700 show history. The archive will be supplemented by the band and their own recordings of “impossible to get” shows.
  • Live video and text chats with the band, tutorials, first access to music, multi-player gaming
  • Exclusive merch and vinyl drops (Coming Soon)

Toronto’s Soul Rockers BAD BREED Release New Video for Emotional Track, “Not in My Life”

0

Toronto-based rock fusion group Bad Breed has just released its latest — and possibly most emotional — single, “Not in My Life” — available now.

The vulnerable song serves as the third single from the band’s long-awaited sophomore album Ferocious Love (2020) — often referred to as “The Bad Breed in Ferocious Love.” The eight-track record is the band’s first full-length release since their 2015 debut, The Violent World of Bad Breed.

The five-minute soul-rock track was released alongside a black and white homemade music video featuring an assortment of people close to the band lip-syncing along. The tune is jam-packed with an allotment of tasty blues riffs — reminiscent of those from The Jimi Hendrix Experience — and backed by some of the finest, tightest drum and bass work in the modern rock era.

To top it all off is the powerful and soulful voice of lead vocalist Katherine Wilson, which calls back to the talent of R&B singers like Otis Redding and the legendary Aretha Franklin.

The topic of the song which closes their most recent effort? According to the band, it confronts the adversity we all face in life and forges ahead declaring “no more pain!”

Musical mastermind and frontman Mike Gribben said: “This was one of the first songs we wrote for the record and it became evident that it should close the whole album because of how powerful it felt to us. Everybody stepped up vocally and it felt like our anthem by the time we finished it.”

Ferocious Love was born after several tragedies faced by Mike in the last year, and serves as the five-piece’s most personal, emotional, and visceral release to date. The record begins with the death of the male singer’s best friend and partner of many years and, from there, follows his extended mental journey of grief, depression, and eventual acceptance.

By the end of this emotional journey, Mike seems ready to experience the feelings of love and joy in his life once again.

Bad Breed is: lyricist, vocalist and drummer Mike Gribben, Havana-born bassist/vocalist Maylin Ortega, Denzel Benitez Ortega on piano, Mark Hundevad as the percussionist and Catia Dignard as the current third vocalist.

Initially — back in 2014, when they formed — Bad Breed was a fusion band which played a combination of 60s-inspired R&B music and classic punk rock. Following the release of “The Violent World of Bad Breed” and much touring, the group’s music evolved into a tasteful and complementary blend of soul, funk and blues rock music.

As well as their two full-length albums, Bad Breed released a double single last year — “My Crimes/You and Your Money” — and their first-ever EP, which is called Bad Breed Plays Execution Music.”

Toronto’s Rock Duo ECLECTICUS Deliver Fifth Album, Five Point 0 and Lead Single “Took Me for Granted”

0

Not ones to let the doldrums of winter or pandemic restrictions mute their music or motivations, Canadian rock duo Eclecticus serve up their fierce and energetic new single, “Took Me for Granted” — available now.

Fresh from their fifth album — aptly titled Five Point 0 — co-fronts Gar Reid and Tiina LeMay say the five-track release is quick to capture their distinct point of view as songwriters and performers. “We let loose with this record,” LeMay shares. “It’s catchy and colourful!”

Landing four months after their previous offering, 2020’s Take Me Away, the duo say making Five Point 0 was cathartic and reinvigorating. Specifically: the video for “Took Me for Granted,” was shot on location in their home in Toronto.

“‘Took Me for Granted’ is one of our favourite songs on the release, so it seemed fitting we’d put together a video for it as well,” Reid shares. “Shooting it was a lot of fun; it allowed Tiina and I to both get our ‘freak’ on and release a lot of the pent-up energy that had arisen during the lockdown.”

“It’s really a testament to the fun Gar and I have together, both in music and in life,” LeMay agrees.

“These days, we are stuck inside,” Reid continues, noting that the new album arrived in quick succession to its predecessor. “We figured: what better way to use our time than to make more music?”

“Five Point 0 is different from our last album in that it has a lively pop-rock vibe,” he adds. “Take Me Away felt darker, and more intimate in its acoustic base.”

While initial spins of Five Point 0 and Take Me Away may differ in overt vibes, they teem equally with the heart and soul the band is growing known for through their songwriting style; further examples include earlier releases So Illogical (2018), Hole Hearted (2012), and their self-titled debut, Eclecticus I (2009).

Produced by Reid and LeMay, Five Point 0 features performers Hamish Young, Ed Perry, Keith Sutcliffe, and JimmyD; Reid mixed and engineered the release, with Ian McCulloch adding his talents to the second track, “Get Me the President.”

2x GRAMMY Winner & Leader of Arrested Development SPEECH Releases Anthemic Call-to-Action “A Different World”

0

2-time GRAMMY Award-winning artist Speech has put his MC talents, artistic integrity, and passion for socio-political issues to quick use as he delivers an anthemic call-to-action single, “A Different World” — available now.

The dedicated MC and member of legendary Afro-centric hip hop group Arrested Development had watched in horror alongside millions of Americans — and onlookers from around the world — as a swath of die-hard Trump loyalists stormed the U.S. Capitol building in Washington, D.C. last month.

“The rebellion that happened on January 6th was the curtain being pulled back on race, lies, and darkness in America,” he says. “This song had to be made to become proactive in shaping our collective future.

“It’s obvious that about half of America is living in a fictitious bubble, and are responding accordingly; that’s why I wanted to share facts about the lawlessness and hypocrisy that was occurring.

“We may be at the start of another Civil war, and a lot of bloodshed.”

“A Different World” follows Speech’s release of his first solo EP in 14 years, Expansion Pt. 1, and is included on his 2021 full-length album, Expansion; there’s also an extended version of the single available with six versions — including instrumental, acapella, and a remix featuring Configa.

Featuring lyrics such as ‘I’m a black man that’s double jeopardy/Black plus a man that’s black all of that in white supremacy/We’ve already known America’s not our home/We’re just citizens with no representation of our own/Uh, but we pay taxes, some as soldiers for the chief/While the commander in chief’s a proud boy wearing sheets, leading goons in the streets/Having no accountability/There can’t a civilization without civility,’ Speech makes the changes desperately needed painfully clear.

“On the night of the terrorist attack that already killed five people, I did a YouTube post, and I posted various things on social media,” Speech shares, “but none of it seemed adequate — especially from a music documentation perspective. So, I went into the studio, pulled out my Beat Thang, sampler, etc.

“The jazz/boom bap energy for this song was intentional,” he continues. “It’s meant to be a throw-back energy from the 90s-type approach. In my opinion, those sensibilities lend themselves to reflection, grooves, and hope, while still showing the urgency of this moment. I also purposefully rhymed with a higher pitch cuz I wanted my emotions of helplessness and rage — but also engagement — to come through.

“This is a time for goodhearted people of all races that love hip hop to show the world a path to peace and truth,” he adds. “Plot, plan, strategize, organize, and mobilize. Please spread the vibes. We aren’t helpless — we can make a different world.”
