XO Records chart-topping rapper and producer NAV has released a new mixtapeEmergency Tsunami via XO Records/Republic Records/Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. The project was entirely produced by longtime collaborator and certified-Platinum “Turks” producer Wheezy and features many of the biggest names in music, including Gunna, Young Thug, Lil Baby, Lil Keed, and Sah Babii.

Emergency Tsunami comes on the heels of an already banner year for the second-generation Toronto-Canadian. In May, he released his Good Intentions album, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 making it one of the biggest Hip Hop debuts of 2020, the follow-up to his Bad Habits album, which also debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 with over 80 million streams the first week, making it one of the biggest Hip Hop debuts of 2019. Both albums have asserted his dominance in the mainstream, garnering coverage and acclaim from the likes of Variety Magazine, Rolling Stone, Complex, The Associated Press, The New York Times, Pitchfork, Fader, and many more.

NAV has been co-signed by some of the most prominent artists in the game, from being signed to The Weeknd’s XO Records to his well-known friendship and collabs with Lil Uzi Vert and producing Drake’s 2015 Grammy-nominated diss track “Back To Back.” Just last year, he has also made notable guest appearances on critically acclaimed albums such as Young Thug’s So Much Fun, DJ Mustard’s Perfect Ten, Pop Smoke’s Meet The Woo 2, and most recently, Lil Uzi Vert’s Eternal Atake (Deluxe). He has quietly ascended from the days of only a few hundred streams on SoundCloud to a multi-Platinum star with over 6.5 Billion global streams.

See It And Get It With Gurps Rai’s Dropp.tv

0

Gurpreet Singh Rai (also known as Gurps Rai and Gurps Singh Rai) is an entrepreneur that is known for his involvement in several high-profile companies, his philanthropic efforts and, most recently, his startup dropp.tv.

Gurps Singh Rai began his career at First Rate FX in London where he handled foreign exchange transactions for companies involved in the commodities markets. Subsequently he became involved in carbon offsets trading and was the instigator of a carbon offset deal involving Li-Ning and Winrock’s non-profit enterprise the American Carbon Registry. He continued his work in the carbon abatement movement, hosting an event associated with the United Nations COP17 environmental summit in Durban, South Africa that also included Sir Richard Branson’s Carbon War Room company.

While Gurps Singh Rai net worth is likely to be significant he is also a champion of good causes and philanthropic efforts including his 2014 effort, with help from a UN Non-Government Association, to finance a drug rehabilitation clinic in the Punjab. He also created what have been called the world’s most expensive ($4 million) sneakers with Li-Ning, the ‘Fire Monkeys’, with all money earned going to buying footwear for children in Africa that could not afford shoes.

Today Gurps Rai is most well known as the CEO of Dropp.tv, a startup that aims to enhance the impact of video using AI, machine learning, augmented reality and computer vision to allow users to seamlessly buy products they see in music videos. The company patented the ‘See It, Want It, Get It’ technology which enables users to click on products in a video and purchase it.

The interactive videos powered by dropp.tv are only in their infancy but the startup has already gathered a group of artists and influencers including A$AP TyY, Ashanti and professional basketballer Iman Schumpert to create content for the site. The business model is simple: they partner with artists that are looking to sell merchandise and place their videos on the dropp.tv platform. The artists include the merchandise they are selling in the video and viewers are able to click on saleable items and buy them without having to leave the dropp.tv ecosystem. Artists receive all of the money from the sale, while the company adds 8% on top of the price for the service they offer.

Gurps Rai says he has been a sneakerhead all his life and saw that consumers would line up for hours to by that product, particularly when endorsed by music stars. He realized that for lesser artists to develop a name and grow, music videos were the easiest route. Putting the two ideas together means that artists can grow their reputation while also being able to make some money through product placement in their videos which can often be expensive to make. He says that one young artist spent a modest $500 on his video but managed to make almost five times that amount ($2,400) from product sales using dropp.tv.

The concept of ‘shoppable video’, as it is sometimes called, is not a new one and has become a growing trend in marketing in recent years as the consumption of video on sites like YouTube has exploded. In 2012 Diplo, Iggy Azalea and FKi made a shoppable video partnering with retailer SSENSE and made over $100,000 from the effort.

The biggest challenge is the enabling technology. YouTube, the most popular online video platform, does not support interactive video. Perhaps the time is right for someone to create a shoppable video channel and given Gurps’ previous successes, dropp.tv might be it.

And, now imagine this timeless music performed by 68 musicians of the Orchestre symphonique de Montréal (OSM), conducted by Maestro Leclerc, and you get Histoires sans paroles – Harmonium symphonique co-produced by Serge Fiori and Simon Leclerc, under the artistic direction of Nicolas Lemieux, president of GSI Musique.

The first project from the fabled Harmonium since the release of L’Heptade 44 years ago, the symphonic performance of Histoires sans paroles, totaling more than 140 minutes, is more than simple orchestral interpretations. It’s a reworking of the songs revealing the compositions in a whole new light. The exquisite flavor, the subtlety and the multiple layers offered by this instrumental work, invite each listener to imagine their own new stories of what for many had become part of the soundtrack of their life.

Harmonium is one of the most influential bands in Quebec music history and their success reached across North America as the sound of progressive rock came to characterize the 1970’s music scene. The success of their three albums HarmoniumSi on avait besoin d’une cinquième saison and L’Heptade and the single Pour un instant resulted in an invitation to Los Angeles, where the National Film Board of Canada filmed Harmonium en Californie. In 2015, Rolling Stone magazine listed Si on avait besoin d’une cinquième saison at number 36 of the Best 50 Progressive Rock Albums and declared it the Best Progressive Folk Album. In 2007, all three of Harmonium’s studio albums were named among the 100 greatest Canadian albums of all time in Bob Mersereau’s book The Top 100 Canadian Albums. The influence they had on the sound of Quebec music was immense and still resonates.

Histoires sans paroles will be available on December 3rd, exclusively at www.harmoniumsymphonic.com in the following formats: digital version; boxed set containing two CDs and a booklet illustrated with photos taken during the recording at the Maison Symphonique, in Serge Fiori’s presence; boxed set containing four vinyl albums and a booklet consisting of extensive texts and a wide selection of pictures commemorating this very unique moment.

Dan Wilson Announces Words + Music in 6 Seconds Deck: 74 Creativity-Inspiring Cards For The Artist In Your Life

0

Today, the Grammy-winning producer and songwriter Dan Wilson announced the Words + Music in 6 Seconds deck, a set of 74 cards designed and written by Wilson distilling insights from nearly 30 years of writing, performing, and collaborating with the world’s most prominent musical artists and writers.

Pulled from his popular Words + Music in 6 Seconds instagram series, each individual card contains a brief and inspiring piece of advice for songwriters, musicians, and people in other creative fields. Designed to be a useful tool in sessions and collaborations, the deck is a beautiful and practical gift for the songwriter or creative artist in your life.

The deck is now available for purchase at a special introductory price. Each card was written and illustrated by Wilson himself, who published a book of his illustrations alongside his 2017 solo album Re-Covered.

“The idea came when I told a friend I was thinking of creating a book using the quotes from my W+M6S online series,” explains Wilson. “She said, ‘How about a deck of cards instead of a book?’ I said, ‘Oh, like Brian Eno’s Oblique Strategies deck?’ She said, ‘I don’t know who that is.’ Of course, I know who Brian Eno is, but I still loved the idea, and so I’ve tried hard to make sure the Words + Music in 6 Seconds deck is an entirely different animal than Eno’s studio-oriented advice cards.”

Wilson took home an Album of the Year GRAMMY for Adele’s 21, which featured three of his co-writes (including “Someone Like You”); landed a Song of the Year Grammy for The Chicks’ “Not Ready To Make Nice,” and has written with an eclectic range of artists such as Chris Stapleton, Phantogram, John Legend and Halsey. Earlier this year, Wilson recently reunited his band Semisonic for the release of You’re Not Alone, their first EP in 20 years. Watch the band perform “You’re Not Alone” on CBS This Morning’s Saturday Sessions.

“The W+M6S cards are about forging collaborative relationships, seeking a community, testing out ideas in front of an audience, and writing better songs. The world of collaboration is full of mystery for many of us, and the cards put a special emphasis on how to make the most of our time together in creative pursuits. I know those of you who use the deck will agree,” says Wilson.
