0

The Who has one of the greatest rock legacies in music history, they’re one of the all-time great live bands, have sold over 100 million records worldwide including 9 US & 10 UK top ten albums and 14 UK top ten singles in a career spanning six decades.

Now fifty-five years after they made their first recordings, The Who is back with their first new album in thirteen years entitled WHO due for release on November 22nd and is preceded by the song “Ball & Chain,” which is available on all streaming services now.

Tickets purchased online for The Who’s North American MOVING ON! TOUR tour includes a redeemable code for a CD copy of The WHO when it’s released. This offer is available to US and Canada customers only and not valid for tickets purchased via resale. In addition, $1 from each ticket sold for the MOVING ON! TOUR will benefit Teen Cancer America

The eleven-track album was mostly recorded in London and Los Angeles during Spring and Summer 2019 and was co-produced by Pete Townshend & D. Sardy (who has worked with Noel Gallagher, Oasis, LCD Soundsystem, Gorillaz) with vocal production by Dave Eringa (Manic Street Preachers, Roger Daltrey, Wilko Johnson).

Singer Roger Daltrey and guitarist and songwriter Pete Townshend are joined on the album by long-time Who drummer Zak Starkey, bassist Pino Palladino along with contributions from Simon Townshend, Benmont Tench, Carla Azar, Joey Waronker and Gordon Giltrap.

The artwork for WHO was unveiled last night in New York at the opening of the brand new eight-story Pace contemporary art gallery where the band also performed a short acoustic set. The album cover has been created by famed pop artist, Sir Peter Blake who first met the band in 1964 at a taping of the legendary TV show Ready Steady Go. Sir Peter designed and contributed a painting to the sleeve of The Who’s album Face Dances in 1981.

The songs on WHO cover a myriad of subjects including the Grenfell Tower fire, musical theft, spirituality, reincarnation, the power of memory and ‘an old rock star that has lost his marbles’. Singer Roger Daltrey rates it amongst their strongest, “I think we’ve made our best album since Quadrophenia in 1973, Pete hasn’t lost it, he’s still a fabulous songwriter, and he’s still got that cutting edge”.

Pete Townshend, “This album is almost all new songs written last year, with just two exceptions. There is no theme, no concept, no story, just a set of songs that I (and my brother Simon) wrote to give Roger Daltrey some inspiration, challenges and scope for his newly revived singing voice. Roger and I are both old men now, by any measure, so I’ve tried to stay away from romance, but also from nostalgia if I can. I didn’t want to make anyone feel uncomfortable. Memories are OK, and some of the songs refer to the explosive state of things today. I made new home studio demos of all these songs in the summer of 2018 using a wide collection of instruments old and new. We started recording as The Who in March 2019, and have finished now in late August just in time to make some vinyl………maybe even some cassettes……ready for release in November”.

Two songs on the album, the epic “Ball & Chain” and string-laden “Hero Ground Zero,” recently got their world premiere when the band played with a 40-piece orchestra to a packed Wembley Stadium.

Gibson Announces Worldwide Release Of New ‘Slash 1966 EDS-1275 Doubleneck’

0

Slash’s rise to rock royalty featured a variety of iconic Gibson models, but it was the 1966 EDS-1275 Doubleneck that both diversified his sound and solidified his guitar-god aesthetic.

He bought it from a small music store in Indiana in 1990 and put it into rotation almost immediately. Using the natural chime and chorus of the twelve-string neck and composing epic solos on the other, it became a favorite tool for studio and stage and an indelible part of Slash’s sound.

Gibson is proud to present this exacting replica of the original guitar, constructed and aged by the skilled craftspeople of the Custom Shop in Nashville, TN. Only 125 models will be sold worldwide, each hand-signed and numbered by Slash himself.

YouTube announces ticketing partnership where Canadian fans see live event listings from Official Artist Channels

0

Over 1 billion fans come to YouTube each month to connect with their favourite artists and discover new music. And now, we’re making it easy for Canadians to go from experiencing music online to seeing live performances through our partnerships with Ticketmaster and Eventbrite.

Starting today, Canadian fans watching videos from Official Artists Channels will see ticket listings for live music performances throughout Canada and the US. With one easy click on the “Tickets” button, they’ll be able to purchase directly from one of our ticket vendors.

This new feature is an expansion of the ticketing integration first launched with Ticketmaster in 2017 in the US.

Live events continue to be a major source of revenue for artists, so we want to help artists keep fans updated on their upcoming shows and sell more tickets to live performances. YouTube’s global audience also lets artists find new fans, with 24% of Millennials and 33% of teens claiming they discover live music events through the platform, according to a Nielsen report from 2018.

The new feature aims to connect fans with not only the global artists they love, but also will give them a chance to discover more intimate events with breakthrough Canadian talent.

YouTube is the space where many Canadian artists first built their online platform. We’re excited to continue furthering the power of video discovery on YouTube by bringing those artists and fans closer together through live shows.

As a unique fusion of cutting-edge sound technology and timeless design, its aesthetics and appearance have been designed to evoke the Golden Age of Jukeboxes.

Its manufacturer, Rock-Ola, is globally renowned as the only authentic American Jukebox manufacturer on the planet. The company is highly regarded for its ‘Bubbler’ Jukeboxes, famed for its mesmerizing, multi-colored tubes with ascending bubbles. These became one of the most successful and best-selling series of Jukeboxes in history. This latest model is an evolution of its most enduringly popular design as it combines authenticity and new technologies producing the ultimate in sound experience!

The new Jukebox plays a total of 200 selections (A&B sides) and can stream via Bluetooth so you can combine authentic analog sound or digital music via your device. It’s capable of connecting with integrated music systems like Sonos or Control 4 and is powered by a tube pre-amplifier and a 425-watt digital amplifier, with dual zones so that external speakers can be added if required.

The 45 rpm Vinyl Bubbler’s release comes at an exciting time for the industry, with a sharp upswing in the public’s interest in vinyl. Canadian folk and roots’ Durham County Poets dives into the south for “Hand Me Down Blues” album

0

Canadian folk and roots outfit Durham County Poets are offering up their fourth and newest release, this time celebrating all things blues and the artists that inspired their journeys to the stage.

The album’s premiere single “Hand Me Down Blues” lands today, ahead of the five-piece band’s forthcoming album of the same name later this month — September 20th.

“I went to my first blues concert with three of my best friends in 1981,” says Durham County Poets frontman and lead vocalist Kevin Harvey on the inspiration behind Hand Me Down Blues. “We had tickets to see Muddy Waters at the Spectrum in Montreal. When I entered the venue, Muddy’s signature guitar riff was ringing in the air and spilling into the lobby so we all hurried down to the front of the stage.

“I was awestruck,” Harvey recalls. “I was a 19-year old young man in the presence of a master! I planted my elbows firmly on the stage, as if to stake my claim, and looked Muddy square in the eye…”

That wasn’t the only point of contact for Harvey and the legend. “I placed my hand on his shoe, too,” he continues. “Muddy looked at me and winked, as if to say ‘welcome to the blues, son.’”

Fast forward to 2012 and beyond, and Harvey — along with David Whyte, Neil Elsmore, Carl Rufh and Rob Couture, all hailing from Ormstown, Quebec and its surrounding Chateauguay Valley — have Durham County Poets and previous releases, Grimshaw Road (2017), Chikkaboodah Stew (2014) and Where The River Flows (2012) to show for it.

The five seasoned artists — all of whom are songwriters and musicians hailing from a multitude of genres, including gospel and rock — possess an unmistakable joie de vivre while performing together, offering audiences, including at the Rochester Jazz Festival and Montreal’s Folk Festival, an infectious good-time vibe through song.

“I didn’t know while at that Muddy Waters concert I would have a life-altering spinal cord injury three months later,” Harvey says of the event that placed him in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. “That experience — and seeing Muddy — made blues come alive to me.

“The band and I, we have our own experiences and inspirations to create this dedicated ‘blues album’, paying homage to our favourite blues artists. Muddy Waters was just one of many who handed the genre down to us, and now we want to continue in that tradition by putting our own stamp on it and “Hand” the blues to the next generation.”

Hand Me Down Blues is available now.
