Rush to Release “Rush In Rio” on Vinyl on January 18, 2018

0

Following a nearly five-year break from touring, Rush returned to the stage in 2002 to support the trio’s seventeenth studio album, Vapor Trails. During the tour, Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart played to some of the biggest crowds of the band’s career, including 40,000 people at the tour’s final stop in Rio de Janeiro. That concert was released in 2003 as RUSH IN RIO, which was certified gold in the U.S. and Canada.

That live album was originally released on CD and DVD but has never appeared on vinyl – until now. RUSH IN RIO will be available on January 18 via Anthem/ole label group as four 180-gram LPs. The set is presented in a heavyweight gatefold jacket and comes with a code that allows the music to be downloaded digitally.

The collection includes all 29-songs the Rock and Roll Hall of Famers’ performed at the concert in Rio, plus two bonus tracks that were recorded at other stops during the Vapor Trails Tour. “Between Sun & Moon” was recorded on September 27, 2002 in Phoenix, AZ and “Vital Signs” was recorded on October 19, 2002 in Quebec City, Quebec.

Guitarist Alex Lifeson states, “In all the years of touring, few gigs matched the energy we witnessed from the Rio audience. Throughout the night, they sang along to every song, which was quite a feat considering English is not so commonly spoken there. They even sang robustly during ‘YYZ’ and that’s an instrumental! In fact, during mixing, we often pulled the band tracks down and just listened to the audience and it was mind-blowing. We were all so surprised by the welcome we received and the deep connection our fans had to Rush. It remains one of the greatest highlights we’ve experienced in over 40 years of touring.”

Making the show in Rio rare and extraordinary, fan favorites that are rarely played together on the same night were peppered throughout the set list. This included the sprawling sci-fi epic “2112,” as well as “Closer To The Heart,” “YYZ,” “Freewill,” “New World Man,” “Tom Sawyer,” and “Limelight.” One of concert’s high points is Peart’s drum solo, which is titled “O Baterista,” Portuguese for “the drummer.” That performance earned the group a GRAMMY Award ® nomination for the Best Rock Instrumental Performance.

The songs that appear on RUSH IN RIO span the group’s entire career up to that point, including several tracks from Vapor Trails: “Earthshine,” “One Little Victory,” “Ghost Rider” and “Secret Touch.” The remainder of the set list touches on most of Rush’s studio albums, including 1996’s Test For Echo (“Driven,” and a rare acoustic performance of “Resist”); 1984’s Grace Under Pressure (“Distant Early Warning” and “Red Sector A”); 1980’s Permanent Waves (“The Spirit Of Radio” and “Natural Science”) and 1974’s self-titled debut (“Working Man.”)

Since forming in 1968, Rush has become one of the world’s most-popular progressive rock bands. Between its debut album in 1974 and its final large-scale tour in 2015, the band has sold more than 40 million albums around the world, earning 24 gold, 14 platinum and three multi-platinum albums.

The Charlatans Perform Their Hits … And “Call Me Maybe”… On The Strombo Show

0

Last night on The Strombo Show, The Charlatans performed a stripped-down acoustic duo session and chatted with the host / landlord, George Stroumboulopoulos. Lead singer, Tim Burgess was in fine form, from his thoughts on BritPop: “I invented it… Everyone was in a band and everyone was the same age,” to views on their late members: “We play samples – so they’re on the road whether they like it or not.” They played songs from their whole career and FRANKIIE joined them to cover Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe.” Brilliant stuff.

Taylor Swift Signs Exclusive Global Recording Agreement With Universal Music Group

0

Taylor Swift, one of the music industry’s most creatively and commercially successful artists in history, signed a global recording agreement with Universal Music Group (UMG). Under the multi-year agreement, UMG will serve as the exclusive worldwide recorded music partner for Swift and UMG’s Republic Records will serve as her label partner in the U.S.

The multi-album agreement, effective immediately, deepens the relationship between Swift and UMG and builds upon the enormous success she achieved with Big Machine Records—the label whose long-term strategic alliance with Republic Records first brought Swift into the UMG family. A ten-time Grammy winner distinguished as the youngest-ever recipient of the Grammy for Album of the Year—and the first female solo artist to win the award twice—is the only artist in history with four albums with sales of more than one million copies in their first week of release (2010’s Speak Now, 2012’s RED, 2014’s 1989 and 2017’s reputation), respectively.

Taylor Swift’s critically-adored new album, reputation, was the biggest selling album of 2017 and No. 1 in over 111 countries on iTunes’ sales charts upon release. With almost 1.3 million albums sold in a seven-day period, Taylor is the only artist in history to have four consecutive albums sell over one million copies in their week of release (2010’s Speak Now, 2012’s RED, 2014’s 1989 and 2017’s reputation).

Taylor’s chart-topping first single, “Look What You Made Me Do,” broke multiple records within hours of its release. With over 10 million streams, it was the most-streamed song in a one-day, the lyric video for “Look What You Made Me Do” broke the standing record with over 19 million views, while the music video shattered the original most viewed video (28 million) record with 43.2 million views in 24 hours. Her current single “Delicate” was the latest song off reputation to top the Pop, Hot AC and AC charts.

Taylor is a ten-time Grammy winner, a singer, songwriter, musician and producer. She is the youngest person in history to win the music industry’s highest honor, The Grammy Award for Album of the Year and she is the first female solo artist to win this prestigious award twice. Rolling Stone listed Taylor as one of the 100 Greatest Songwriters of All Time. Time magazine featured Taylor on their prestigious 2017 Person of the Year cover, named her one of the 100 Most Influential People in the world and was one of only eight candidates for the 2014 Person of the Year. A Brit and Emmy award winner, Taylor is Billboard’s youngest-ever Woman of the Year and the only artist to have been awarded this honor twice.

SZA, Kacey Musgraves & Hayley Kiyoko To Be Honored At Billboard’s 13th Annual Women In Music Event

0

Billboard will honor SZA, Kacey Musgraves and Hayley Kiyoko at its 13th annual Women in Music event, held in conjunction with the release of the Women in Music issue, on December 6 in New York City. Soulful and candid singer-songwriter SZA will accept the Rule Breaker award, genre-bender Kacey Musgraves will collect the Innovator award, and pop singer-songwriter Hayley Kiyoko will receive the Rising Star award. Ariana Grande (Woman of the Year), Janelle Monáe (Trailblazer Award) and Cyndi Lauper (Icon Award) have already been announced as honorees at the star-studded event, which also honors the most powerful female executives in the industry.

SZA will accept the Rule Breaker award, which recognizes a female artist who uses her music and platform to defy traditional industry expectations and advance a powerful message for young people today. As a dynamic new voice with an uncompromising songwriting vision exemplified on her TDE/RCA platinum debut album Ctrl (#3 debut on the Billboard 200), SZA has consistently upended the expectations of a modern R&B star while scoring Grammy nominations, multi-platinum hits like “Love Galore,” “The Weekend,” and “All The Stars” with Kendrick Lamar, plus a prime slot on Top Dawg Entertainment’s best-selling Championship Tour.

Kacey Musgraves is the recipient of the Innovator award, which recognizes a female artist who challenges musical convention, creates positive change and contributes new ideas both within and outside of her creative work. With her Top Country Albums-topping third album, Golden Hour, Kacey Musgraves has evolved her traditional country sound with daring vision, while continuing to serve as an advocate for inclusion and tolerance as an in-demand live act.

The Rising Star award will be presented to Hayley Kiyoko as recognition of an up-and-coming artist whose cultural impact and exceptional talent have demonstrated a clear path to success. By serving as a progressive pop symbol and a spokesperson of the LGBTQ community, Hayley Kiyoko has used her bold debut album, Expectations (No. 12 peak on the Billboard 200 chart), self-directed music videos and live shows as platforms of empowerment, ensuring a bright artistic future ahead.

The 13th annual Women in Music red-carpet pre-show will be broadcast live on Twitter, 7pm-10pm EST on December 6.

Montreal’s Rising Star Polina Grace Releases Her New Single ‘Enough’: A Guiding Light of Empowerment for All Women

0

Polina Grace, an up-and-coming Canadian songstress and multilingual femme d’affaires based out of Montreal, continues her uphill climb towards stardom, according to PGM Productions Co., an indie label distributed worldwide by Sony Music Canada. Polina Grace’s talents have developed into a knockout punch Canada has yet to see in decades, gaining over 1 million likes and shares on her social media pages to date.

With a beautifully silky vocal tone somewhat reminiscent of a young Beyoncé, Ms. Grace began her professional journey in music only a couple of years ago, upon graduating from McGill with a bachelor’s degree in commerce, but she has already received the attention of many industry professionals, including that of Sony Music Canada.

Polina Grace’s latest release, a track called “Enough,” is not only a beautifully produced contemporary pop ballad, but it goes so far beyond being just a regular pop song: it makes the listener feel, it makes the listener want to sing along, but it ALSO makes one want to ask questions and seek answers. In today’s socio-political climate of the women’s movement towards equality and prevention of harassment, a song like “Enough” fits seamlessly into the picture.

We are now just over a year into the #MeToo movement, which has revolutionized not only the entertainment world, but it has shaken the entire world as we know it to the core, bringing about social change one brave story at a time. Today, strong women around the world continue their mission to be “heard” and to be treated with uncompromising respect and dignity, primarily by members of the opposite sex.

For those who have not heard of Polina Grace, they undoubtedly will soon enough, pun intended. Her entire body of work, which includes her critically acclaimed debut EP “Down” followed by a single “Wanna Be There,” which entered the Top 20 Hot AC BDS Charts in the province of Quebec, all echo of incredibly prominent female empowerment themes.

Throughout “Down,” Polina’s key track from the EP, the songwriter sings “I won’t let you drag me down, I’ll rise above; won’t turn around” – a line many can identify with in choosing to embody a positive outlook towards the future no matter what demons may have haunted them in the past. Then, throughout one of her grittiest tracks called “In The Shade,” Polina clearly states that she would not fall for dirty tricks, would not be “bought” with power or money and will continue to stand up for herself as the empowered, independent young woman that she is. Likewise, the young singer’s collection of video work surpasses the expectations of quality one would expect from an indie artist. In “Down,” Polina executes a Hollywood-esque fight choreography and performs her own stunts; she looks absolutely fierce with her crew of female musicians in “In The Shade” and she is dressed to kill, in both a figurative and a literal sense in “Red Skies.” Click here to watch Ms. Grace in action: Polina Grace – Best Videos.

Now, as people listen to Polina’s newest release “Enough,” the track seems to shed a new light on the singer’s more delicate and fragile side. However, one must not be fooled: although the vocal delivery and the lyrics are the singer’s most vulnerable and delicate to date, her message remains – Enough is #Enough. And the song truly makes the listener wonder what this young woman must have experienced to not only have become so vocal about her pain but to also have come to a place of such strength and dignity with the making of original music that continues to speak to listeners, women in particular, in the most supportive and empathetic of ways.

Ms. Grace is a Canadian artist who is on a surefire path to becoming not only a great singing success, but this young woman seems to be destined for even more than that. Perhaps a future advocate of further positive social change or simply someone other fellow women and young girls can look up to and be inspired by, this multilingual McGill-educated young woman with a powerful voice and a meaningful message is one whose career is to follow.

“Enough” is available on all streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music, YouTube and others. Stay tuned for the release of Polina Grace’s new music video which is set to come out Nov. 21.
