My Next Read: Bring It On Home: Peter Grant, Led Zeppelin, and Beyond–The Story of Rock’s Greatest Manager

0

Peter Grant is the most famous music manager of all time. Often acknowledged as the “fifth member of Led Zeppelin,” Grant’s story has appeared in fragments across countless Zeppelin biographies, but none has explored who this brilliant and intuitive manager yet flawed and sometimes dangerous man truly was. No one has successfully captured the scope of his personality or his long-lasting impact on the music business. Acclaimed author and journalist Mark Blake seeks to rectify that.

Bring It On Home is the first book to tell the complete uncensored story of this industry giant. With support from Grant’s family interviews with Led Zeppelin’s surviving band members, and access to Grant’s extensive archive and scores of unpublished material, including his never-before-published final interview, Blake sheds new light on the history of Led Zeppelin and on the wider story of rock music in the 1960s and ’70s.

Full of new insights into Grant’s early life as an actor, wrestler, and road manager for rock ‘n’ roll pioneers Chuck Berry and Little Richard; the formation of Led Zeppelin; his seclusion following the demise of the band; and his recovery from substance abuse, Bring It On Home reveals a man who, after the extraordinary highs and lows of a career in rock ‘n’ roll, found peace and happiness in a more ordinary life. It is a celebration, a cautionary tale, and a compelling human drama.

Stompin’ Tom Connors Unreleased Songs From The Vault Collection Volume 3 To Be Released December 7

0

Anthem Legacy, an imprint of ole label group, continues the rich musical legacy of Stompin’ Tom Connors with the release of Unreleased Songs From The Vault Collection Volume 3 on December 7, 2018. The Canadian musical icon passed with 120 recordings in what he referred to as “The Vault”, in order to safeguard against the possibility that he should at some point find himself unable to continue in the studio. 14 new tracks from this collection will be available featuring special guest artists: JUNO Award-winners The Sheepdogs, CCMA Award-winners The Washboard Union, JUNO Award-winning fiddle virtuosos Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy, JUNO Award-winners The Good Lovelies, JUNO Award nominee Royal Wood and Human Kabab.

“These songs are a collection that Tom recorded in 2011-2012 before his passing, and are some of his favorite songs he performed by request before he was known as Stompin’ Tom,” said Tom Connors Jr. “Tom wanted to make sure that many of the old country songs he grew up listening to are not to be forgotten. He put these songs in “The Vault” in hopes that others can enjoy or even record them for themselves one day, to help keep traditional Country music alive and well for generations to come.”

The songs included in the Stompin’ Tom – Unreleased Songs From The Vault Collection Volume 3 are written by some of Tom’s favourite singer-songwriters that inspired him over the course of his life and career. Classics including: Hank Williams’ “So Lonesome I Could Cry” feat. The Washboard Union, Russ Morgan’s “Cruising Down The River” feat. The Good Lovelies and Don Gibson’s “Oh, Lonesome Me” feat. Royal Wood, are covered by Stompin’ Tom with his signature vocal style and guitar.

With his home spun and fiercely patriotic brand of music, Stompin’ Tom’s legacy includes Canadian country hits: “Bud the Spud”, “Luke’s Guitar”, “Sudbury Saturday Night”, “Big Joe Mufferaw”, “Ketchup Song” and Canadian anthem “The Hockey Song”. Stompin’ Tom’s accolades include JUNO Awards for Best Male Country Singer (1971 – 75) and Country Album of the Year (1978), the East Coast Music Awards Lifetime Achievement Award, SOCAN National Achievement Award (1999), SOCAN Lifetime Achievement Award (2009), the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award (2000), Toronto Musicians’ Union Lifetime Achievement Award (2011), was recently inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame (2017) and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2018 for “The Hockey Song”.
