Thom Yorke Releases New Song “Has Ended” From Suspiria Soundtrack

0

Following the release of first single “Suspirium” — described by The New York Times as “sweetly chilling” and Rolling Stone as “peak Yorke, and scary good” — a second track, “Has Ended,” has been released in advance of Thom Yorke’s Suspiria (Music for the Luca Guadagnino Film). The album will be released October 26 on XL Recordings.

Suspiria consists of 25 original compositions written by Thom specifically for Luca Guadagnino’s reimagining of the 1977 Dario Argento horror classic. The album is a mix of instrumental score work, interstitial pieces and interludes, and more traditional song structures featuring Thom’s vocals including the previously released “Suspirium,” which features the melodic theme that recurs throughout the film and its score.

As scoring a horror film presented Thom with altogether new challenges and opportunities, Suspiria stands apart from any of his other work. Piano/vocal ballads, Krautrock-esque modular synth work inspired by the film’s Berlin 1977 setting, multilayered vocals, and melodies that convey terror, longing and melancholy combine to create a chaotic yet cohesive musical spell.

Suspiria was written and arranged by Thom Yorke, recorded and produced by Thom and Sam Petts-Davies. The album also features the London Contemporary Orchestra and Choir, Noah Yorke on drums on “Volk” and “Has Ended,” and Pasha Mansurov on solo flute on “Suspirium.”

Suspiria (Music for the Luca Guadagnino Film) will be available across digital platforms, as well as 2-LP gatefold package pink vinyl and 2-CD physical versions.

0

Samsung Canada, in partnership with Autism Speaks Canada, is excited to announce the launch of the 2018 Learn the Love Spectrum campaign. Now in its fourth year, the innovative initiative aims to raise awareness of autism in Canada and bring a deeper understanding of how technology can impact the lives of families living with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) – a condition affecting one in 66 Canadian children*.

This year’s campaign kicks off with an in-person Learn the Love Spectrum panel discussion at the Samsung Experience Store at CF Toronto Eaton Centre on Thursday, October 25, 2018. The evening will bring parents, families and experts together to share in an engaging ASD-themed conversation, with representatives from Holland Bloorview Children’s Rehabilitation Centre as well as Autism Speaks Canada sharing their insights, experiences, and noteworthy developments to support the ASD community in Canada.

Following the panel, a variety of Sensory Friendly Experiences will be coming to the Samsung Experience Store at CF Toronto Eaton Centre, providing families with unique opportunities to shop while experiencing tailored events in a sensory-friendly environment. For further information, follow Samsung Canada social channels for news and updates.

With the launch of today’s Learn the Love Spectrum campaign, Samsung Canada and Autism Speaks Canada announced they will be donating Samsung wearables and 500 of the newest Samsung GALAXY Tab A 10.5 tablets, to families living with ASD, exploring how the Samsung connected ecosystem – from the Samsung GALAXY Watch, to GearVR virtual reality, and more – can support and connect a child with the world around them. These donations support an ongoing study, led by Holland Bloorview Kids Rehabilitation Hospital, in partnership with Samsung and Autism Speaks Canada, intending to unlock how technology can best support families, and children, living with ASD.

Sharon and Bram To Commemorate Sharon, Lois & Bram’s 40th Anniversary with Farwell Tour and Release of 4 New Singles

0

For 40 years, Sharon Lois & Bram have been synonymous with family entertainment across North America, have earned accolades for their significant contributions to the development of children’s music, but are probably most loved for being the music-makers who invite everyone, babies to grand folks, to be part of the music, to sing and be joyful together.

At a gala event hosted at Young People’s Theatre in Toronto Sharon & Bram were joined by media personality Kevin Frankish to announce details of a year long 40th Anniversary celebration and cross-Canada Farewell Tour. To commemorate the milestone year, as they travel across the country Sharon and Bram are asking Canadians to join them in shining a light on the importance of coming together to sing – as families and as communities right across Canada – to embrace the values of togetherness, diversity and inclusiveness.

“We have had 40 wonderful years singing for generations of music fans and have been thrilled seeing those youngsters back at our performance with their children, and even grandchildren,” says Sharon Hampson. “And now, as we wind down our performance career we hope that all of those fans will come out and sing with us one last time”.

As part of their year long anniversary, the duo will release four new singles, marking each release with a large-scale public sing-a-long timed to the release of the song and will culminate in September 2019 with the publication by Penguin Random House of a picture book of their beloved trademark song “Skinnamarink” and a nationwide event unveiling a brand-new version of Skinnamarink with additional lyrics.

More details will be revealed in the coming weeks on the Sharon & Bram social media pages.

Since 1978, Sharon Hampson and Bram Morrison have been pre-eminent in all aspects of family entertainment across North America as members of the trio “Sharon, Lois & Bram”. Together, the threesome produced over twenty recordings, beginning with their iconic One Elephant, Deux Éléphants. They have appeared in every major concert hall in Canada, and many United States including Carnegie Hall, The Lincoln Center and the White House in Washington. They have received countless awards, including Gold and Platinum Records and JUNO awards for Best Children’s Album. To date, they have sold over 3 million albums worldwide and over 16 million people have viewed the Elephant Show Skinnamarink. For their years of work providing the best in participatory music for children and their families, Sharon and Bram, along with Lois, have been inducted into The Order of Canada, the highest honour in the country.

Canadian Musicians Gather To Cover The Late American Songwriter Tom Petty

0

Canadian singer-songwriter Jadea Kelly is excited to announce Canada Covers Tom Petty – a collection of covers in honour of the late American singer-songwriter. The official playlist, curated by Jadea, will be released on October 20th – what would have been his 67th birthday, a year following his untimely death. The collection of covers includes Learning to Fly by Matt Mays & Terra Lightfoot, Crawling Back To You by Sweet Alibi, Don’t Come Around Here No More by Royal Wood, and many others (full list of songs and artists below). To mark the anniversary of Petty’s passing Jadea releases her heartbreaking cover of Wildflowers. Jadea, along with Toronto’s the Black Pearls featuring special guests will celebrate Petty’s life with a tribute show at the Dakota Tavern in Toronto on December 20th.

“A few months ago I recorded Tom Petty’s ‘Wildflowers’ with my partner (John Clinebell). We heard it on the radio one night while driving and thought ‘hmmm, let’s create our own version’. Once it was complete we thought ‘Hey, wouldn’t it be great to release this cover on a playlist with other Canadians covering Tom Petty’…but we couldn’t find any online;” shares Jadea. “So, I began reaching out to my Canadian songwriter friends to create individual covers and the response was overwhelming. Everyone immediately said yes because everyone loves and respects Tom Petty.”

Over the course of his career, Tom Petty sold over 80 million records worldwide and performed worldwide, including many Canadian provinces between 1976 and 2017. He is highly revered in Canada by fans and artists alike.

“I was always a fan of Tom Petty, but this playlist has opened my ears to his extensive catalogue. Amongst the obscure covers contributed, I have come to realize one very important thing. Tom Petty was a songwriter of compassion.” Jadea continues; “Every single lyric and sentiment expresses love and forgiveness. There is no malice or regret, only understanding. “You belong among the wildflowers”; you deserve love and greatness in your life, regardless of past transgressions. Gorgeous.”

The Darbies ARE Rock & Roll And Just Released Their Latest Video For “End Of The Love”

0

The Darbies are an up and coming band that can be summed up in three words… Rock and Roll. That is the motto they live by and it shows through in the bands powerful riffs, fetterless passion, and wild personas.

Jani is the voice of a new generation. With a unique, strange, charismatic and energetic way of unwinding on stage, Jani’s wild and powerful singing dominates all surroundings. Ronny is the lead guitarist. He is a beast. A hungry player with a natural sense for rock n roll. His showmanship and superb ability produce sounds that trembles through those who dare to watch. Nico on the drums. He is freight train. A blasting drummer with wild energy, charisma and a unique way of playing that engages the audience right away. Joe is the bassist. He is definitely crazy. The groove and the base of the tower. His attitude and passion drives everyone to his own world of rock n roll!

The Darbies are hungry, and their live shows are explosively unpredictable. It’s the combination of young dudes playing from off the top of their instincts where no rules apply. The Darbies music is the new classic rock that new generations are enlightened to follow.

From a broken hearted experience, End Of The Love was inspired and made into a powerful and meaningful song. What it seemed an eternal love, inevitably ceased into its end leaving within words of melancholia eager to be spoken, electrifying music that speaks for itself and scripts about overcoming life.

Twenty Øne Piløts Announce Second Leg Of Global Headline “Bandito Tour” Including 8 Canadian Dates

0

Twenty One Pilots have announced a second leg of the “Bandito Tour” due to overwhelming demand, which will see the band returning to North America for dates in Mexico, Canada, and the U.S. this spring.  The new dates, which follow this fall’s sold-out first leg, are set to kickoff May 1st at Monterrey, Mexico’s Arena Monterrey and will continue through a hometown performance at Columbus, Ohio’s Nationwide Arena on June 29th.  Registration for first access to tickets is now open and will run through 11:59PM ET on Sunday, October 7th.  Presales begin Tuesday, October 9th at 10:00AM local time. All remaining tickets for the U.S. and Canada will be released to the general public at 9:00AM local time on Friday, October 12th.  Public on sale for Mexico will open Wednesday, October 17th at 11:00AM local.

Twenty One Pilots, the GRAMMY Award-winning duo of Tyler Joseph and Josh Dun, are gearing up for the release of their massively anticipated new album TRENCH, which arrives worldwide this Friday, October 5th.   All pre-orders are joined by instant grat downloads of the album tracks “My Blood,” “Levitate,” “Nico And The Niners,” and “Jumpsuit,” each of which is also available for individual streaming or download.

My Blood” marked the first track released from TRENCH to stand apart from the three-part narrative first established in the official music videos for “Jumpsuit,” the chart-topping first single, continued in the LP’s second release, “Nico And The Niners,” and ultimately concluded with “Levitate,” all directed by longtime collaborator Andrew Donoho and streaming now via Twenty One Pilots’ YouTube channel. All three films have amassed over 75 million cumulative views to date.

This month Twenty One Pilots will celebrate the release of TRENCH with the first leg of “The Bandito Tour,” a massive headline world tour set to get underway October 16th at Nashville, TN’s Bridgestone Arena.  The tour will traverse the U.S. through the fall followed by dates in Australia, New Zealand, Europe and the United Kingdom.  The U.S. leg of the epic trek is now virtually sold-out, with much of the international itinerary fast approaching that same status.

BLURRYFACE – which followed Twenty One Pilots’ Fueled By Ramen debut album, 2013’s RIAA Platinum certified VESSEL – made a stunning chart debut upon its initial release, entering the SoundScan/Billboard 200 at #1. The album also achieved a milestone unrivaled in the digital era, becoming the first album in which every individual song on the album certified Gold, Platinum or multi-Platinum by the RIAA.

BLURRYFACE spawned a series of hit singles, beginning with the 2x RIAA platinum certified “Tear In My Heart” and followed by the #1 sensations, “Ride” and the 7x platinum certified, GRAMMY® Award-winning “Stressed Out.” The latter track – which reached #2 on Billboard’s “Hot 100” – spent three months at #1 at Modern Rock while also topping the charts at CHR/Top 40 and Hot AC. “Stressed Out” was a worldwide breakthrough for Twenty One Pilots, earning gold, platinum, and multi-platinum certifications in countries spanning Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. The “Stressed Out” companion video was an equivalent success, now boasting over 1.4 billion views at YouTube alone.

Ride” spent five consecutive weeks atop the charts at Modern Rock radio outlets nationwide – the band’s second #1 single at the format in 2016 – while also ascending to #5 on the overall “Hot 100.” Another global smash, “Ride” is certified 4x platinum by the RIAA with additional platinum carts around the world. In addition, the track’s companion video – directed by Reel Bear Media – has now garnered over 683 million views via Twenty One Pilots’ hugely popular YouTube channel.

“Ride” was then followed by still another world-conquering hit single, “Heathens,” featured on Atlantic Records’ blockbuster SUICIDE SQUAD: THE ALBUM. The 6x RIAA platinum certified single – which received three GRAMMY Award nominations including “Best Rock Performance” (Tyler Joseph, songwriter) – spent four consecutive weeks at #2 on the “Hot 100” while also topping Billboard’s “Hot Rock Songs” for a record-shattering 28 consecutive weeks and counting. The unprecedented one-two punch of “Ride” and “Heathens” made Billboard history, establishing Twenty One Pilots as only the third rock act with simultaneous top 5 “Hot 100” singles in the chart’s 58-year history, following only the Beatles and Elvis Presley.

Heathens” — which hit #1 on the iTunes chart in over 60 countries – also rose to #5 in the United Kingdom and the top 10 in over 15 countries, with platinum and multi-platinum certification in Australia, Canada, Italy, and New Zealand. In addition, the “Heathens” companion video received the 2016 MTV Video Music Award for “Best Rock Video” and has now earned more than 1 billion individual views via YouTube alone.

2017 saw the release of yet another BLURRYFACE hit in “Heavydirtysoul.” Like its predecessor, the RIAA platinum certified single’s companion video received the 2017 MTV Video Music Award for “Best Rock Video” with views now exceeding 84 million via YouTube.

Twenty One Pilots received a number of major awards and nominations over recent years, with “Stressed Out” earning them the 2017 GRAMMY Award for “Best Pop Duo/Group Performance” alongside four additional nods. Other honors include seven total Billboard Music Awards including 2016’s “Top Rock Artist” and “Top Rock Album” (for BLURRYFACE) and 2017’s “Chart Achievement Award,” “Top Duo/Group,” “Top Radio Songs Artist,” “Top Rock Artist,” and “Top Rock Song” (for “Heathens”); multiple Alternative Press Music Awards including “Album of the Year Presented By Journeys” (for BLURRYFACE), “Artist of the Year Presented By Monster Energy,” and “Most Dedicated Fans”; 2016 American Music Awards for “Favorite Alternative Artist” and “Favorite Pop/Rock/Band/Duo/Group”; six iHeart Radio Music Awards (including “Alternative Rock Song of the Year” in both 2016 and 2017); 2016’s Kerrang! Award for “Best Fanbase,” and two MTV Europe Music Awards.

Music industry pundit Bob Lefsetz + veteran music industry exec Jason Flom ‘No Holds Barred’ Tour in Toronto

0

There’s a show coming up I’m REALLY excited about. Bob Lefsetz and Jason Flom are going out on a speaking tour, and heading into Toronto on October 14 at The Pheonix Concert Theatre. Lefsetz is the author of “The Lefsetz Letter.” Famous for being beholden to no one and speaking the truth, Lefsetz addresses the issues that are at the core of the music business: downloading, copy protection, pricing and the music itself. Jason Flom is the current Chief Executive Officer of Lava Records. He has served, at times, as the Chairman and CEO of Atlantic Records, Virgin Records, and the Capitol Music Group. In 1995, he founded Lava Records. He is also a philanthropist who has supported and championed various political and social causes. He is the host of the podcast Wrongful Conviction with Jason Flom.

Jason is one of the most successful A&R people of all time, having signed everybody from Kid Rock to Katy Perry, Tori Amos to Lorde and now Greta Van Fleet. “The Lefsetz Letter” is read by a who’s who in the music business, from Michael Rapino to Drake, from Irving Azoff to Steven Tyler. Come see Jason and Bob debate the issues that matter in today’s cacophonous music business world, from getting signed, to marketing and distribution. Expect a no-holds barred conversation where names are named and foibles and successes are illuminated. If you want to hear how the music business really works, THIS IS THE PLACE!

Music industry pundit Bob Lefsetz and outspoken veteran music industry executive Jason Flom have joined forces for a live show set to hit the road for a limited run of dates this  October.

Lefsetz, who is known across the music industry for his regularly published “Lefsetz Letter,” which is always packed with colourful and often illuminating music biz commentary, as well as his podcast “The Lefsetz Podcast,” has described the show as a an opportunity to “get up close and personal with personalities who refuse to hold back and will speak the truth about not only the music business, but politics and law.”

Flom, who is the Founder and CEO of Lava Records, Lava Music Publishing, and Lava Media, LLC., and previously served as Chairman and CEO at Atlantic Records, Virgin Records, and Capitol Music Group, is personally responsible for launching acts such as Lorde, Katy Perry, Kid Rock, and Greta Van Fleet. He is also a leading philanthropist and expert on criminal justice issues, is the founding board member of the Innocence Project, and serves on the boards of numerous criminal justice reform organizations. His podcast, “Wrongful Conviction,” now in its sixth season, features interviews with men and women who have spent decades in prison for crimes they did not commit.

So, if you want to see these two debate the issues that matter in today’s music business, and are up for a “no holds barred conversation where names are named and foibles and successes are illuminated,” you’re probably going to want to check out this show.
