The Killers Announce New Album, “Wonderful Wonderful” And North American Tour

0

Today, The Killers have revealed details for their highly anticipated new album, Wonderful Wonderful, and have released its second single, “Run For Cover”. The band’s fifth studio album and first in five years will be released on September 22nd. Produced by Jacknife Lee, it was recorded at the band’s own Battle Born recording studio in Las Vegas and at Jacknife’s Los Angeles studio. The album art, shot by Anton Corbijn, was also unveiled today.

Following the release of the blistering first single, “The Man”, The Killers played a surprise unannounced set at the Glastonbury Festival in June, sold out their British Summer Time show in London’s Hyde Park in record time, and conquered the European festival circuit with a crowd-pleasing set of almost two decades’ worth of hits. Next up, the band headlines Lollapalooza in Chicago on August 4th. The Killers will be hitting the road throughout North America in early 2018, including two Canadian dates in January with shows in Toronto and Montréal, for their first full Killers tour since 2013. Tickets for all shows will go on sale at 10am local time on August 11, 2017 with pre-sales ahead of that to members of the band’s fan club, The Victims. For a limited time, each ticket purchase for the tour will include a copy of the album.

Wonderful Wonderful is the band’s most sonically forward-thinking record, bursting with all of the blazing choruses and arena-pleasing anthems that make them one of the world’s biggest and beloved rock bands.

SessionsX Premieres new Hardline Channel featuring Jeff Waters of Canadian thrash metallers Annihilator

0

Long-running Canadian thrash metal band Annihilator has been featured on Hardline, the brand new hard-hitting music interview series from Sessions X. Featuring a lengthy interview alongside live footage of the band’s recent performance at the Opera House in downtown Toronto, the footage includes Jeff discussing the band’s upcoming studio album, their lengthy history, why bands struggle so much to break out in Canada, and much more. The interview coincides with the launch of the show, hosted by veteran metal journalist Sarah Kitteringham (Banger, Noisey, Exclaim!, New Damage Records). Fans can watch the interview and live clips now here.

Founded in 1984, Annihilator has released 15 studio albums under the tutelage of band mastermind, guitarist, and vocalist Jeff Waters, who has assumed a myriad of roles for his band. Considered part of the Big Four of Canadian thrash metal, Annihilator joins Sacrifice, Voivod and Razor as the country’s premier metal exports. Formed in Ottawa, the band is particularly infamous for their 1989 debut Alice in Hell and 1990 follow-up Never Neverland. Performing a blazing style with growling vocals, groovy licks, and refreshingly down-to-earth lyrics, the band survived the commercial downturn of metal in the ‘90s, going on to become a phenomenon worldwide. Now working on their 16th record, they continue to carry the torch for Canadian metal.

Hardline is a new series by Sessions X focused on edgy hard hitting music and the influential people behind it. Combining exclusive interviews and live performances captured at the highest quality possible, the channel delivers an in-depth look at the “hard” music (punk, metal, hardcore, etc.) and the culture that revolves around it.  To learn more about the channel, visit sessionsx.com.

Groupie-Doo, The Archie Comics Parody from 1975

The reason Groupie-Doo, this parody of the wholesome Archie Comics looks so much like originals is because Stan Goldberg did the art for both. Sugar, sugar, indeed.

Hozier, Jesse & Joy, Mashrou’ Leila & more join Ed Sheeran for ‘Give a Home’ gigs

Amnesty International and Sofar Sounds have added new acts to perform intimate shows for the huge global refugee concert series Give a Home. Added to the line-up are Irish Blues-Rock singer Hozier, Grammy award-winning Mexican-American pop duo Jesse & Joy, world-renowned Italian composer Ludovico Einaudi, Arabic indie heavyweights Mashrou’ Leila and many more. The intimate concerts will take place in people’s homes around the world on 20 September.

The stars join a line-up of hundreds of artists that already include Ed Sheeran, who will play in Washington D.C., Fossils, slated to play Kolkata, Freshly Ground, set to play in Cape Town and Daughter and Kate Tempest, who will be among those playing in London. The full list is available on sofarsounds.com/giveahome, where fans have until 10 September to apply to win tickets for the shows.

“It is our honor to join Amnesty International and Sofar Sounds’ Give a Home concerts. The worldwide refugee crisis has reached historic proportions; we must take action from our own backyards to every corner of the globe. We stand with all refugees in their quest for the most basic freedoms; justice and equality. Art and music surpass borders: we are one,” said Jesse & Joy, who will play in Mexico City.

Hozier, who will perform in Dublin, said: “What makes Sofar special to me is that it can take place anywhere hospitality cares to rear its head. There’s something wonderful about hsaring a live music experience in the warmth and closeness of someone’s home, which was my experience with Sofar. I’m thrilled to be taking part in the Give a Home gigs, a global act of welcome which embodies the hospitable spirit of Sofar with the important work of Amnesty International.

Launched on 20 June on World Refugee Day, Give a Home aims to unite people in showing solidarity with those forced to flee their home and raise awareness of solutions to the refugee crisis. At 300 plus shows in more than 200 cities across multiple continents, music fans will host intimate gigs in their homes with some of the world’s biggest music stars, refugee artists and activists.

Performing alongside major artists will be refugee bands. They include pianist Abbas Abboud, musician and spoken word artist Basel Zaraa and the Orchestra of Syrian Musicians.

They also include Faarrow, a Canadian pop-duo formed by sisters Iman and Siham Hashi, who said: “Music for us has been about freedom, and we hope people listening to our songs feel like they can do anything. Right now governments around the world are trying to say the refugee crisis is impossible to solve, but we know it’s not true. We hope the Give a Home gigs inspire people to recognize that we have the power to help solve this crisis.” The sisters, who were born in Somalia but moved to Canada as refugees, will be playing in Los Angeles.

The Orchestra of Syrian Musicians, who will perform in London, added: “Music defies borders and politics. We are proud to be one of hundreds of acts who will come together in cities around the world to support refugees. Music is the ultimate form of solidarity, and as there are several refugees in the Orchestra of Syrian Musicians, we are especially excited to take part in this celebration of unity.”

The shows are in support of Amnesty International’s I Welcome refugee campaign, which mobilizes public pressure on governments to welcome refugees. Amnesty International’s research shows that 80% of people around the world are open to welcoming refugees, yet governments are failing to do their part.
