Conan Gray Announces Highly Anticipated Debut Album ‘Kid Krow’ Out March 20

Kicking off the New Year with very big news, buzzing 21-year-old bedroom pop singer-songwriter Conan Gray reveals the details for his anxiously awaited full-length debut, Kid Krow, arriving in stores and at all digital retailers March 20.

“The Story” lives up to its title as Gray’s most candid and confessional composition yet. Over solo acoustic guitar, he depicts the trauma and tragedy of the suburbs, bullying, sexual repression, and finally escape to a better life in vivid fashion. He opens up more than ever and promises, “It’s not the end of the story…”

He commented, “The record is a study of how I perceive the world. I talk a lot about my friends and people I’ve met touring over the past year. It’s me. I’m not the coolest person, but the album is me accepting the fact I’m weird and I don’t need to be anybody else. It’s also a chance to encourage others to embrace who they are and be unapologetic about it.”

Music from Kid Krow has already resonated in a big way. Songs from the album have been streamed upwards of 92 million times, including the album’s current single “Maniac” [51 million streams], “Comfort Crowd” [19 million streams], and “Checkmate” [22 million streams]. As the story goes, Conan Gray found a way out of his tiny Texas hometown by building his own musical world from nothing more than Garage Band and a cheap microphone taped to a lamp.

Within two years since uploading “Idle Town”, he quietly climbed to the forefront of pop on the back of his debut EP, Sunset Season [Republic Records], and a string of successful singles. Amassing upwards of 300 million streams, he garnered acclaim from Vogue, VMAN, Teen Vogue, Paper, The FADER, MTV, i-D, Billboard, Seventeen, and OnesToWatch, to name a few, made his television debut on Late Night with Seth Meyers, and transformed peers such as Billie Eilish, BTS, The 1975, Brendon Urie, Troye Sivan, Lewis Capaldi, and Noah Cyrus into ardent and vocal fans. Columbia Records/Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, will release Miles Davis – Music From and Inspired by “Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool,” a Film by Stanley Nelson on Friday, February 21 right in front of the film’s U.S. broadcast premiere. “American Masters” the award-winning biography series will present the U.S. broadcast premiere of “Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool” on Tuesday, February 25 at 9PM (EST) on PBS channels nationwide (check local listings), pbs.org/milesdavis, and the PBS Video app. The film was recently nominated for a Grammy in the “Best Music Film” category and its soundtrack is the definitive audio companion to this critically-acclaimed new documentary directed and produced by Stanley Nelson (winner of three Primetime Emmy Awards, a MacArthur Fellowship “genius” grant, and recipient of the 2013 National Humanities Medal from President Obama).

An essential Miles Davis playlist for seasoned fans and new listeners alike, the soundtrack was lovingly curated by the director Nelson and paired with short audio excerpts from the film for a unique listening experience. It brings together recordings and performances spanning labels and the artist’s musical evolution–from “Donna Lee” (a 1947 Savoy master take with legendary alto saxophonist Charlie Parker) to “Moon Dreams” from the groundbreaking 1949 Capitol sessions that were ultimately collected on the album Birth Of The Cool, through the seminal 1950s pieces for Columbia that revolutionized the worlds of jazz and popular music (including “Generique,” Miles’ improvised soundtrack to Louis Malle’s “Elevator to the Gallows” as well as tracks from Miles Ahead and, of course the most popular jazz album of all time, Kind of Blue).

The album also highlights Miles’ evolution in the 1960s with tracks from Sketches of Spain and Someday My Prince Will Come to his iconoclastic invention of electric jazz/fusion (exemplified in a 45rpm single edit of “Miles Runs the Voodoo Down” from Bitches Brew). And it documents his triumphant mid 1980s comeback (1986’s “Tutu”), while premiering a brand-new track, “Hail To The Real Chief.” The new track features unreleased Miles Davis studio trumpet performances combined with music written by Lenny White, produced by White and Vince Wilburn, Jr and featuring an all-star collection of Miles band alumni and acolytes including White, Wilburn, Marcus Miller, Emilio Modeste, Jeremy Pelt, Antoine Roney, John Scofield, Bernard Wright, and Quinton Zoto.

“American Masters,” the award-winning biography series, presents the U.S. broadcast premiere of “Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool” on Tuesday, February 25 at 9PM (EST) on PBS channels nationwide (check local listings), pbs.org/milesdavis, and the PBS Video app. The documentary recently earned a Grammy nomination in the “Best Music Film” category.

“Miles Davis: Birth of the Cool” premiered at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival and was an official selection at the 2019 BFI London Film Festival. The film has been screened in limited runs in select theaters in the U.S., Canada and Europe capped by a screening during the London Jazz Festival at the Barbican on November 16.

Nelson’s documentary has been hailed by critics as an engaging key to understanding the life, art and genius of Miles Davis. Owen Gleiberman, praised the movie in Variety (January 30, 2019) as “…. a tantalizing portrait: rich, probing, mournful, romantic, triumphant, tragic, exhilarating, and blisteringly honest…. Nelson is a filmmaker with a sixth sense for how to nudge history into the present.” The San Francisco Chronicle’s Joel Selvin called the “New Miles Davis doc an essential portrait of iconic jazz genius” (September 3, 2019).

“I remember stealing my father’s copy of ‘Kind of Blue’ to take with me to college. I’ve been fascinated with Miles since then and have long dreamed of telling his story. He was to me a singular force of nature; the very embodiment of cool,” said the director Stanley Nelson. “This film is very special to me and curating the soundtrack gave me a chance to delve even deeper into his archive so that both diehard fans and his new listeners could discover something new.”

With full access to the Miles Davis Estate, the film features never-before-seen footage, including studio outtakes from his recording sessions, rare photos and new interviews with Quincy Jones, Carlos Santana, Clive Davis, Wayne Shorter and Ron Carter, among others. Select interview soundbites are included as commentary tracks on the album. Alan Doyle Announces New EP, Rough Side Out, Available February 14

Alan Doyle – one of Canada’s most treasured musicians – has announced the release of a brand new EP, Rough Side Out, coming February 14.

The album features the single “We Don’t Wanna Go Home” with country star Dean Brody, as well as an appearance by 3-time CCMA Female Artist of the Year winner Jess Moskaluke on the track “What the Whiskey Won’t Do.”

A few days after the EP release, Doyle will kick off a 34-date Canadian tour beginning February 19 in Moose Jaw. A full list of dates can be found below. He will be touring with his powerhouse 6-piece band and special guest Kelly Prescott.

Every ticket purchased comes with a physical copy of the EP and one dollar from each ticket sold for this show will go to support the A Dollar A Day Foundation. Every dollar collected goes directly into the hands of proven Mental Health and Addictions programs across the country, to help with such issues as the opioid crisis in Vancouver and homelessness in St. John’s.

Late last year, Doyle released the music video for “We Don’t Wanna Go Home,” which includes appearances from Brody, The Reklaws and more.

Doyle – the songwriter, producer, actor and author – is a 12-time JUNO Award nominee for his solo material and work with his iconic band Great Big Sea. In 2018, he was awarded the Order of Canada for his contributions to the musical traditions of Newfoundland and for his commitment to numerous charitable initiatives.

Sebadoh Announce Spring Tour Dates

Indie rock pioneers Sebadoh have announced a new set of US tour dates this spring. The tour will kick off on April 15th in Boston and run till Brooklyn on May 9th.

Sebadoh released their latest critically acclaimed album Act Surprised last year, their first in more than six years, via Dangerbird Records. The album continues the soulful collaboration that’s defined the band since 1991’s Sebadoh III and 1994’s Bakesale. Their new batch of songs reaffirms how vital the creative partnership is between members Lou Barlow, Jason Loewenstein, and Bob D’Amico. Pitchfork raved that it “sounds like the work of a band refreshingly free of baggage” while NPR Music stated “Sebadoh kicks off its fourth decade with rare cohesiveness of vision, in a string of spiky, aggressive three-minute rock songs that don’t let their jagged edges obscure the throbbing heart at their center.”

Canadian Music Week Releases Preliminary Session Line Up For Radio Active Summit May 20-21, 2020

Canadian Music Week’s annual audio expo, the Radio Active Summit, is greeting the 2020’s with a boom. The revamped and rebooted Radio Active Summit at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel will feature two full days, May 20 – 21, dedicated to everything that reaches audiences ears via streaming, podcasting and broadcasting. It is a technological, sociological and business-oriented deep dive, featuring workshops, sessions and more celebrity and international speakers than ever before.

The 2020 Radio Active Summit keynote speakers will include Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and co-author of She Said: Breaking the Sexual Harassment Story That Helped Ignite a Movement Megan Twohey, Australian futurist, speaker, creative director, and “Digital Prophet” David Shingy, and America’s leading expert on GenY and Z consumers Matt Britton.

Jann Arden Announces Cross-Canada Tour and Hits Album

Multi-platinum award-winning singer, songwriter, actor, author and soon-to-be Canadian Music Hall of Fame inductee Jann Arden hosted a press conference today in downtown Toronto where she announced the release of Hits & Other Gems on May 1, 2020 via Universal Music Canada, and Jann Arden Live, a 19-date cross-Canada tour beginning May 7.

Hits & Other Gems will consist of 12 tracks including Arden’s hits “Could I Be Your Girl” and “I Would Die For You,” and a cover of The Cure’s “Lovesong” recorded with Scott Helman as part of his Hotel Sessions series. The album will also include a live version of “Insensitive” that was recorded this past November for JANN ARDEN ONE NIGHT ONLY, a one-hour original special that aired exclusively on CTV and streams on Crave, and three songs featured in the upcoming second season of her critically-acclaimed comedy series, JANN.

Jann Arden Live will kick off at Mile One Centre in St. John’s, NFLD May 7 and will conclude at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver, BC on June 18, making stops at Montreal’s MTELUS and Toronto’s Roy Thompson Hall along the way. Last month, Arden was announced as the first 2020 inductee into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. With accolades that include 19 top ten singles, eight JUNO Awards and 10 SOCAN Awards, Arden is a beloved Canadian musical artist and personality. Arden will join the ranks of Canadian music icons including Alanis Morisette, Bryan Adams, Barenaked Ladies, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Joni Mitchell, k.d. lang, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, RUSH, The Guess Who, The Tragically Hip, Sarah McLachlan, Shania Twain, and many more. Arden has written four books, the most recent being Canadian bestsellers Feeding My Mother – Comfort and Laughter in the Kitchen as My Mom Lives with Memory Loss and her self-penned memoir Falling Backwards, and is set to release a fifth book later this year.

Zac Brown Band Announces Summer 2020 “Roar with the Lions Tour”

Multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning, Zac Brown Band announced new Summer 2020 Tour, “Roar with the Lions Tour” presented by Polaris.

The “Roar with the Lions Tour” will feature music from the band’s entire discography mixed with a dynamic selection of genre-crossing cover songs that are a signature mark of each Zac Brown Band show. The tour is grounded in the historic characterization of the lion, depicted as a symbol of strength, courage, and loyalty. Always counted upon to bring sunshine and warmth into the lives of others, lions are fearless, treating one another with dignity and respect, bravely walking through the forests they rule. At each show, fans can expect fiery performances and a rollicking good time. Special guest Gregory Alan Isakov will join the tour May 24 through June 27 and St. Paul and The Broken Bones will open the Wrigley Field show on September 9. Please see itinerary below.
