The Full 20-Minute Video Of A Stoned Bob Dylan And John Lennon Taxi Ride From 1966
Today in 1965, During a UK tour Bob Dylan played the first of two sold out nights at London’s Royal Albert Hall. All four members of The Beatles were in the audience. What better time to post this cool video?
It’s been around for awhile, usually in shorter form, but here is full 20 minutes of the stoned Dylan and Lennon taxi ride during Bob’s 1966 tour of England, shot by P.A. Pennebaker in Dont Look Back, ending with Bob getting sick. Dylan stoned out of his mind, Lennon functioning much better.

Choir Of 1999 Voices Sings Prince’s “When Doves Cry” At Massey Hall
Like everyone else on the planet, Toronto’s Choir! Choir! Choir! were devastated to hear that Prince had died. To pay their respects, they invited 1999 singers to Massey Hall in Toronto on Monday, May 2, and, over the course of a couple hours, they learned thearrangement to When Doves Cry. It was a beautiful and emotional evening that included a performance of Purple Rain by Sabrina Wan + Brad McGoey from the Regent Park School of Music, and a sighting of Le Petit Prince. After all the parts came together, they shot this video, which is the next best thing to having been in the room. Then they went to Yonge-Dundas Square to sing it one more time.
I was at Massey Hall, and it was an emotional, killer evening. This is what is sounds like when his fans sing and cry.

Will Butler captures the spirit of his dynamic live show with ‘Friday Night’ release
On June 17, Will Butler returns with Friday Night, an album of live performances from Butler’s tour supporting his debut album, Policy. Recorded mostly at Lincoln Hall in Chicago on June 4, 2015, Friday Night includes five brand-new songs, five from Policy, and two songs he wrote for The Guardian newspaper last year.
Capturing the energy of the dynamite Will Butler band was the major inspiration for this release. Miles Arntzen (EMEFE, Antibalas) played drums (standing up at a full kit-he didn’t use a hi-hat pedal, so he could stand on that leg while working the kick drum with the other), Julie Shore played synth bass, and Sara Dobbs played synth leads and Mellotron pads. Everybody sang backing vocals.
Will wrote of the album: Think of this as a comedy record. In some ways literally-Brooklyn comedian Jo Firestone does the introduction and the “solo” in “Friday Night”-but also, it’s an album based on working out ideas in a room full of people, playing off their energy and expectations. It’s about taking complicated emotions and wringing communal joy from them, and then translating that joy onto record. So here you go!
Featuring artwork by Broad City’s Abbi Jacobson, Friday Night is the perfect companion to Policy and an exciting look ahead to what we can expect from Will Butler. Pre-order Friday Night now on CD or LP in the Merge store along with an exclusive tote bag designed by Will himself. Pre-order also available via iTunes.
Friday Night track listing:
1. Encore – Tell Me We’re All Right
2. Introduction
3. You Must Be Kidding
4. Son of God
5. Sun Comes Up
6. Madonna Can’t Save Me Now
7. Something’s Coming
8. Anna
9. II
10. Sing to Me
11. Public Defender
12. Take My Side
13. Encore – Friday Night
Alzheimer Society Of Toronto Announces Benefit For Spirit Of The West’s John Mann
The Spirit of John is back for its second year, with Canada’s top musical talent performing to support those living with Alzheimer’s disease or other forms of dementia. It happens on Thursday, June 2 at The Horseshoe in Toronto. Tickets Available at horseshoetavern.com or alz.to/concert
In 2014, John Mann, lead singer of Spirit of the West, was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. At age 51, he was confronted with the reality that his poetic lyrics may not come to him as easily moving forward. The Spirit of the West has played their final show in Toronto, as shown in the recent documentary “Spirit Unforgettable,” and more recently said farewell in Vancouver.
On June 2nd, The Alzheimer Society of Toronto’s Music Project and sponsors TD Canada and Slaight Music are putting on a night of memorable live music at the Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto. John Mann will perform a set at the event, as well as Jim Cuddy, Molly Johnson, Royal Wood, Tom Wilson, Chris Tait from Chalk Circle, Tomi Swick, and Michelle Willis – plus guests to be announced throughout May – will join him. Tickets are available for $40 (plus service charges) by visiting alz.to/concert. Concert-goers will be participating in the first ever Fund A Need, which aims to raise enough money to supply iPods for a month.
The Spirit of John concert is meant to bring awareness to a disease that affects both men and women, regardless of race, religion, or socio-economic background. It is not a normal part of aging. And, no one is immune.
Fortunately for people with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, there is music. Music has been linked to beneficial effects on the brain, stimulating it and helping people feel happy and alive. Music brings memories back to life. The Alzheimer Society of Toronto developed the Music Project, to help those living with the disease reignite old memories and a feeling of joy by providing personalized iPod Shuffles at no cost.
Homeboy Sandman’s Kindness for Weakness Is Out Now
Kindness For Weakness is Homeboy Sandman’s third full-length album on Stones Throw Records. The album’s title comes from Sandman’s internal insight saying “mistaking kindness for weakness is a weakness I need to have more kindness for.” One of Sandman’s most poignantly lyrical releases to date, the album centers on the MCs discomfort in his comfort zone and addresses themes such as his personal insecurities, rapper stereotypes and morality.
Since signing with Stones Throw Records in 2011, Homeboy Sandman has made himself at home releasing 3 full-lengths – First of a Living Breed, Hallways, and now Kindness for Weakness – along with a series of 5 short records and most recently, releasing a free EP with collaborator Aesop Rock named Lice. Sandman has once again established himself as one of the most productive and creative lyricists of this generation.
