Christmas is a difficult time for many – if not most – people, even if that isn’t the way it’s usually portrayed by retailers and in the media. With that in mind, alt-country artist Andrea England gets refreshingly, reassuringly honest about the bitter-sweetness of the holiday in her new single “Jolly Melancholy Christmas.”
A slow, thoughtful guitar ballad, “Jolly Melancholy Christmas” is introspective without being a complete tearjerker (although you’re absolutely allowed to cry). Like many people, England recently lost some people who were close to her, and the loss has tinged the holidays with sadness over the last few years.
“I like to keep it real, as much as possible, in songs and in life,” England says. “When I think of Christmas, and the holidays, the first one is always the hardest when you’ve lost someone. Every ‘first’ without them is hard, not only for me, but for all of us.”
So have a jolly melancholy Christmas
It’s the best and worst time of the year
So raise a glass to good and bad
To all we’ve lost and all we have
At least we’re all in this together
Her first Christmas song ever, “Jolly Melancholy Christmas” came to England when a broadcaster from Nova Scotia, her hometown, asked her last year if she had a holiday song he could play during the East Coast Rising. She didn’t that year, but it sparked an idea.
“I thought, what would I write about? It’s going to be so melancholy – so ‘Jolly Melancholy Christmas’ came to mind.” Coincidentally, she had a writing session scheduled with two of her friends and long-time collaborators, Liz Rodrigues and James Bryan, and the song was borne of that session and that nurturing friendship. “They’re both very sensitive, emotionally tuned-in people,” England says.
Andrea England is an award-winning singer/songwriter; the founder, curator, and host of Toronto’s hottest songwriter series, Four Chords & the Truth; and has released two critically-acclaimed albums – Lemonade and Hope & Other Sins, the latter of which was produced by Grammy-winning producer Colin Linden. Andrea’s third release, Evidence of Love, is currently in pre-production with producer Hill Kourkoutis, and is slated for a May 2023 release.

Today, jazz singer/songwriter Madeleine Peyroux announces her return to Canada this spring with shows nationwide. After wrapping up her Careless Love World Tour, Peyroux will once again hit the road, this time joined by highly-acclaimed singer/songwriter Martha Wainwright. The duo will make their way coast-to-coast, with stops including Toronto’s Danforth Music Hall, Winnipeg’s Burton Cummings Theatre and Vancouver’s Centre for Performing Arts.
“I am always honored to share a space with such a formidable person and artist, but Martha’s is one of the greatest voices I’ve ever heard,” says Peyroux. “Canada is where my parents fell in love, where much of my repertoire was written, my career took form. And I am often, undeservedly, called Canadian. Perhaps my most integrated self will at last be fulfilled. One can only hope! At least I am certain our tour of the beloved North will be one of the most fun ever!”
The show will feature performances of favourites from Peyroux’s repertoire, including her best-selling 2004 classic album Careless Love. She’ll also be debuting some new music off her forthcoming projects for fans to enjoy.
Martha Wainwright is an internationally renowned singer-songwriter, critically acclaimed for the rawness and emotional honesty of both her vocals and lyrics. Earlier this year, she released the deluxe version of her latest album Love Will Be Reborn, as well as her memoir, Stories I Might Regret Telling You, which was a National Bestseller after its first week of release.
“It’s so great to reconnect with an old friend and share the stage with this incredible artist,” says Wainwright. Fans can look forward to experiencing the artistry of both Peyroux and Wainwright on stage in their city.

The legendary music impresario (and producer of bands like The Yardbirds and Wham!) tells his life story in a series of mesmerizingly candid vignettes.
Sour Mouth, Sweet Bottom: Lessons from a Dissolute Life is the book Simon Napier-Bell’s fans have always hoped he’d write.
From 1940s London where he listened to wartime hits like ‘Mairzy doats and dozy doats’ in the air-raid shelter; to talking about Wham! with Deng Xiaoping, head of Communist China, or getting stoned with Elaine May and Jack Lemmon by the pool in 60s Beverly Hills, Sour Mouth, Sweet Bottom makes most memoirs look like thin gruel by comparison. This is a high-octane explosion of a book, a kaleidoscopic sequence of more than sixty ‘lessons’ drawn from a life lived to the full: frank, funny, freewheeling and honest.
There are anecdotes of the acts he managed (the Yardbirds, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, Marc Bolan, Japan, Sinitta, Boney M, Candi Staton, Ultravox, Asia, Wham!, George Michael and Sinead O’Connor) but there’s also the wisdom gathered from a louche life of clubs, restaurants, gigs, arrests, awards, bankruptcies, bereavements, booze, coups and sex, both gay and straight.
For decades, rumors have circulated among Creedence Clearwater Revival’s fans about a long-lost recording of their legendary 1970 show at London’s Royal Albert Hall. Now, Craft Recordings is thrilled to announce that the rumors are, indeed, true. Available for pre-order today in multiple formats (detailed below), the long-awaited Creedence Clearwater Revival at the Royal Albert Hall presents the concert in its entirety and finds CCR at the apex of their career, playing the most prestigious venue in London. Placing listeners front and center at the show, the album features John Fogerty, Tom Fogerty, Doug Clifford, and Stu Cook performing such (now classic) hits as “Fortunate Son,” “Proud Mary,” and “Bad Moon Rising.”
Creedence Clearwater Revival at the Royal Albert Hall will be available September 16on 180-gram vinyl, CD, and cassette tape, while select retailers will offer a variety of exclusive color variants, including Walmart (“Tombstone Shadow” vinyl) and Target(“Green River” vinyl). Additionally, the album will be available across digital platforms, including in hi-res and Dolby® ATMOS immersive audio formats. A limited Super Deluxe Edition Box Set will follow later in the year, more details below.
After spending roughly 50 years in storage, the original multitrack tapes were meticulously restored and mixed by the GRAMMY® Award-winning team of producer Giles Martin and engineer Sam Okell, who have helmed countless acclaimed projects together, including the Beatles’ 50th-anniversary editions of Abbey Road and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, as well as audio for the Elton John biopicRocketman and Peter Jackson’s The Beatles: Get Back Series. The LP was mastered by the celebrated engineer Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios using half-speed technology for the highest-quality listening experience.
Creedence Clearwater Revival at the Royal Albert Hall will be released concurrently with the documentary concert feature film, Travelin’ Band: Creedence Clearwater Revival at the Royal Albert Hall. Directed by two-time GRAMMY® Award winner Bob Smeaton (The Beatles Anthology and Jimi Hendrix Band of Gypsies) and narrated by Academy Award®-winning actor Jeff Bridges, the film takes viewers from the band’s earliest years together in El Cerrito, CA through their meteoric rise to fame. Featuring a wealth of unseen footage, Travelin’ Band culminates with the band’s show at the Royal Albert Hall—marking the only concert footage of the original CCR lineup to be released in its entirety.
On November 14, both the album and the film will be presented in a Super Deluxe Edition Box Set, available exclusively via CraftRecordings.com. The 2-LP/2-CD/1-Blu-ray collection includes Creedence Clearwater Revival at the Royal Albert Hall on two 45-RPM 180-gram vinyl LPs as well as on CD. A second CD features music from the film, including formative recordings from the band’s earliest incarnations (including Tommy Fogerty and the Blue Velvets and the Golliwogs). While the Blu-ray offers the complete Travelin’ Band: Creedence Clearwater Revival at the Royal Albert Hall film, plus the digital album in hi-res and Dolby ATMOS® immersive audio. Limited to 5,000 copies worldwide and available to pre-order now, each individually numbered set is housed in a 12” x 12” box, with embossed gold foil detail, and includes a reproduction of the original 1970 tour program, a 17” x 24” poster, and a 16-page booklet, featuring an excerpt from Bridges’ voice-over script, which offers background on the band’s incredible path to the London show.
When Creedence Clearwater Revival stepped onto the Royal Albert Hall’s stage on April 14, 1970—just days after the Beatles announced their breakup—the California rockers had arguably just become the biggest band in the world. Leading up to the show, CCR had enjoyed an unprecedented “magical year,” as Jeff Bridges narrates in the film. “In only 12 months the band had achieved five Top 10 singles and three Top 10 albums [Bayou Country, Green River, Willy and the Poor Boys] on the American charts, outselling the Beatles. They had appeared on the legendary Ed Sullivan Show and played to over a million people across America, including the hundreds of thousands gathered at Woodstock. ‘John, Tom, Stu, and Doug’ may not have had the familiar ring to it of ‘John, Paul, George, and Ringo,’ but Creedence were challenging the Beatles for the title of the biggest group in the world.”
Indeed, the band’s Southern-steeped, “swamp rock” sound permeated global airwaves throughout 1969. Singles like “Proud Mary,” “Green River,” “Fortunate Son,” and “Down on the Corner” were in the Top Ten across Europe, North America, and Australasia, while “Bad Moon Rising” hit No.1 in the UK and New Zealand. But Creedence was more than just a commercial success. By the end of 1969, Bridges notes, “John Fogerty was considered one of America’s most politically significant songwriters,” following his biting commentary on class amid the Vietnam War in “Fortunate Son.” The critics were paying close attention to CCR, while Rolling Stone declared them to be the “Best American Band.” As the new decade dawned, Creedence played a triumphant hometown show at Oakland Coliseum. Less than four months later, in April, the four-piece embarked on their first European tour—an eight-show run that included stops in Holland, Germany, France, and Denmark.
The band considered their two sold-out London shows to be a test of sorts, to measure the success of their European tour. Opening their first night with “Born on the Bayou,”the band delivered a high-energy 12-song set. “What set Creedence apart from many of their contemporaries was their ability to produce the sound of their records on stage, and the primal excitement and joy of their concerts, which came from their love of live performance,” explains Bridges.
As they concluded the show with “Keep on Chooglin’,” the band was met with a 15-minute-long standing ovation from the audience. The next day, they would receive rave reviews from such stalwart publications as The Times and the NME, who boldly declared “Creedence Clearwater Revival had proved beyond a doubt that they are, in more opinions than mine, the Greatest Rock and Roll Band in the World. In their capable hands, not only is te true spirit of rock music alive and well, but it is kicking like a mule.” During their two-night residency at the iconic venue, CCR no only followed in the footsteps of acts like the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, and the Beatles, but they proved they were equals.
While Creedence Cleawater Revival would go their separate ways just two years later, speculation around a live recording of that legendary concert began to pereate their fanbase in 1980. That same year, Fantasy Records had released a live album by the band, mistakenly titled The Royal Albert Hal Concert. It was quickly discovered that the audio was, in fact, from the Oakland Coliseum show, captured months earlier. While the lbel rushed to sticker the album with correctional information—and properly re-named the January 1970 performance as The Concert for later production runs—actual footage from the Royal Albert Hall remained the stuff of rock ’n’ roll lore….until now.

What started as the 20th-anniversary tour of Jill Scott’s chart-topping, genre-defining album, Who Is Scott?: Words and Sounds Vol I in 2020 ended prematurely due to the COVID-19 pandemic. But good news prevails: in 2023, the tour will resume, electrifying auditoriums, theaters, and music halls throughout the nation in celebration of a moment and movement that continues to enthrall music lovers of all ages and backgrounds. Scott will play the iconic album front to back, with hits from her iconic debut album, such as “Gettin’ in the Way,” “A Long Walk” and other musical stories. The tour, produced by Live Nation Urban, will play in over 20 markets across the country, with special multi-show residencies in Washington, D.C. at the MGM National Harbor on Mother’s Day weekend and Scott’s hometown of Philadelphia at The MET Philadelphia, marking the first time the North Philadelphia native will play at the storied North Philadelphia venue. The Philadelphia stop also includes a fundraiser at the Arden Theatre in support of her non-profit, the Blues Babe Foundation.
“My band and I were so excited three years ago, but that damn COVID shut us down,” said Scott. “Now, we outside! Come see me. Come feel again. Relive your favorite moments. Ya’ll ready to settle down and get with this?!? It’s a lot of love here.”
Though Scott had to pause performances during the pandemic, she celebrated the milestone virtually and continued building her brand as a multimedia entrepreneur, launching “Jill Scott Presents: J.ill the Podcast” in November 2020 alongside co-hosts Laiya St.Clair and Aja Graydon-Dantzler. The universally-loved podcast currently has 80 episodes and continues to grow in popularity and influence. Scott also participated in the first woman vs. woman Verzuzbattle in May 2020, starred in Lifetime’s Highway to Heaven and BET+’s The First Wives Club, and in September 2021, she became the faceof Nationwide, bringing a fresh take on a familiar campaign and putting her soulful spin on the iconic jingle.
Scott released her much-anticipated debut record Who is Jill Scott? Words & Sounds, Vol. 1 in July 2000, which became a double platinum album that earned Scott several Grammy nominatios, including Best New Artist (2001), Best R&B Album (2001), and Best Female R&B Vocal Performance for three years in a row (2001-2003). JUNO Award-nominated Canadian rock band Silverstein are thrilled to announce the Misery Made Me 2023 North American Tour. Known for their incredible, high-energy sets, Silverstein is ready to kick off what’s sure to be another stellar year for them with this not-to-be-missed headlining tour.
Beginning on Thursday, March 23rd in Ottawa, ON at Bronson, the band will be visiting over 25 cities across North America including stops in Pittsburgh, New Orleans, Las Vegas, San Diego, Cleveland and more before wrapping up in Grand Rapids on Sunday, May 7th at The Intersection. Joining them on this run are special guests: Dayseeker, Seeyouspacecowboy and One Step Closer.
Silverstein released their latest studio album, Misery Made Me, earlier this year via UNFD. Inspired by the past two years, Misery Made Me is a depiction of Silverstein – and world at large’s – collective turmoil, frustration, and anxiety. It’s a record that is a product of the moment in time in which it was created yet doesn’t feel like it will date itself anytime soon, as many of its topics of loneliness, anxiety and isolation are eternal human struggles.
Silverstein has continued to build on their already-wide reaching impact. Immersing themselves in new technologies like TikTok, Discord, the metaverse and Twitch (even holding public writing sessions with fans over the latter) during its formation, the band have confirmed their unique ability to adapt and connect in all cycles of their career.
It’s both intriguing and inspiring that a band – who could have merely rested on the impressive legacy they’ve already cemented – would continue to dig deep and find the inspiration to reach people in meaningful new ways. Misery Made Me is a campaign hinged on Silverstein’s reflection and gratitude for their roots, their honouring of their earliest fans, and their staunch desire to explore forward-thinking
and adventurous ways to connect with new ones.

MasterClass, the streaming platform where anyone can learn from the world’s best across a wide range of subjects, today announced that John Legend will teach a class on songwriting. In his class, Legend will break down his songwriting process from start to finish, giving members a framework for finding their voice and writing with purpose. Legend will also give members a firsthand look into the creation of his song “Free,” which he first performed at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards in April. The class is available now exclusively on MasterClass, where subscribers get unlimited access to all 150+ instructors with an annual membership.
“John’s ability to craft songs that resonate in both intimate moments and timely movements makes him one of the most accomplished songwriters of the time,” said David Rogier, founder and CEO of MasterClass. “In his class, he brings members into his songwriting process, teaching them how to use their own experiences to write songs that have the ability to change the world.”
In his class, Legend teaches members how to capture experiences, convey feelings and inspire a movement through music. Using his hit songs “All of Me,” “Again” and “Dope” as case studies, he shares how he uses mumble tracks to write melodies and how he structures songs to tell a story. Whether members want to write about intimate moments or start a movement, Legend will help them find inspiration in the world around them and turn their personal experiences into unique songs. To demonstrate how to use music to spark movement, Legend provides a behind-the-scenes look into his writing process for the Oscar-winning song “Glory” for the film Selma. He will also walk members through the importance of being a strong collaborator, as well as how to blend musical genres and record background vocals. He’ll also provide tips for performing live. After taking members through the creation of “Free,” Legend ends the class with a powerful performance of the song with a gospel choir. Members will come away with a framework for creating songs that capture personal moments and speak to timely events to inspire action.
“Songs are core to who we are and are such an important part of humanity,” Legend said. “My class will give you the tools to find your voice, figure out who you are and establish yourself with longevity so you can make a real impact through music.”
