MLSE Partners With KultureCity To Certify Scotiabank Arena, Bmo Field & Coca-Cola Coliseum As Sensory Inclusive

0

Today, MLSE and KultureCity announced a new partnership that certifies all events hosted within Scotiabank Arena, BMO Field and Coca-Cola Coliseum to be sensory inclusive. This new initiative provides accommodation for fans with a sensory issue to have a positive experience when visiting any of these venues for a game, concert or event.

“Our communities are what shapes our lives and to know that MLSE is willing to go the extra mile to ensure that everyone, no matter their ability, is included in their community is amazing. We’re honored to partner with MLSE to provide a truly inclusive experience for all fans,” said Uma Srivastava, Executive Director, KultureCity.

The certification process required staff at all three venues to be trained by leading medical professionals on how to recognize those guests and fans with sensory needs and how to handle a sensory overload situation. Sensory bags, equipped with noise canceling headphones (provided by Puro Sound Labs), fidget tools, verbal cue cards and weighted lap pads will be available to all guests who may feel overwhelmed by the environment.

“MLSE prides itself on providing best-in-class experiences at our venues, which includes ensuring that all fans, no matter their accommodation requirement, can enjoy our live events,” said Caroline Wright, Vice President, Venue & Operations at MLSE. “Through our partnership with KultureCity, we are furthering our commitment to make our venues inclusive to all fans.”

Sensory sensitivities or challenges with sensory regulation are often experienced by individuals with autism, dementia, PTSD and other similar conditions (one in six individuals). One of the major barriers for these individuals is sensitivity to over stimulation and noise, which is an enormous part of live entertainment. KultureCity has partnered with over 25 NBA venues and are honored to onboard the only Canadian team; KultureCity partners with over 15 NHL teams and venues and honored to bring on the first Canadian hockey team and venue.

Prior to attending an event, families can download the free KultureCity App where one can view what sensory features are available and where they can access them. Also, on the App is the Social Story which will provide a preview of what to expect while enjoying an event.

Building on the success of the inaugural event held in 2019, which saw sold out performances from headliners Florida Georgia Line and The Glorious Sons, this year’s tournament once again promises an unforgettable experience for golf and music fans alike. The concert series, which was first introduced to attract new, younger fans to the sport of golf, is a celebration of the return of live music in Canada.

The concerts will take place near the iconic St. George’s Golf and Country Club on the athletic field of Toronto’s Richview Collegiate Institute and will feature performances on both the Friday and Saturday evenings of tournament week.

Canadians will have the opportunity to see Flo Rida live in concert at the RBC Canadian Open on Friday, June 10, 2022.

The result was our most successful RBC Canadian Open to date and we are eager to build on that early momentum with the return of the tournament this year.”

“We are thrilled to be bringing even more live music back to Canadians in 2022,” said Wayne Zronik, President Live Nation Canada. “RBC has been a committed partner to us, and it’s great to work together again on the Concert Series while supporting the growth of music in Canada through its program First Up with RBCxMusic, dedicated to helping emerging artists with performance, mentorship and networking opportunities.”

“Golf Canada is thrilled that RBC will continue to integrate the RBCxMusic platform within the RBC Canadian Open, offering fans the unique opportunity to see both world class golf and world class music at Canada’s National Championship,” said Golf Canada Chief Commercial Officer John Sibley. “The Concert Series was an overwhelming success in 2019 and will once again attract new fans to experience the energy and excitement of the RBC Canadian Open.”

In addition to must-see music performances, fans can expect exciting spectator experiences, including a dedicated food and beverage area—the Recipe Unlimited Fare Way, and the return of The Rink on the 16th hole, awarded 2018 best-in-class element by the PGA TOUR.

Marc Jordan and Amy Sky Set To Release Debut Duet Album ‘He Sang She Sang’ On May 6, 2022

0

Multi-million selling Canadian singer/songwriters Marc Jordan and Amy Sky are set to release their first-ever album duet collaboration, He Sang She Sang May 6, 2022, via Linus Entertainment.
A collection of fresh takes on beloved classics alongside newly original compositions, the 13-song release marks the first time this prolific duo — married for 34 years — have recorded an entire album together.

In addition to enjoying hits and accolades all their own, the highly acclaimed singer/songwriters and producers have also penned songs for a teeming roster of A-list artists, including Rod Stewart, Diana Ross, Chicago, Olivia Newton-John, Heart, Reba McEntire, Joe Cocker, Bette Midler, Bonnie Raitt, Cher, Cyndi Lauper, and more.

While opportunities to collaborate with each other would often arise, the industry power-couple decided early on to keep their careers largely separate. “We’d dip our toes in, and loved it,” Amy shares, “but never pursued it further; it meant one parent could always be at home with our two children. Our musical styles were distinct, and our marriage was happy — we wanted to keep it that way.”

Now empty nesters, the pair found the idea of exploring where their voices and genres overlapped intriguing.

Thankfully, the dynamic duo has overcome earlier reluctance to make an album together. Their first duo record, He Sang She Sang is a superbly curated collection of songs that combines fresh takes on some beloved classics with new original compositions.

The covers include songs by Tom Petty (“Free Fallin’”), The Beach Boys (“God Only Knows”), Smokey Robinson (“Ooh Baby Baby”), Willie Nelson (“You Were Always On My Mind”), and Bonnie Raitt (“You”), all given vibrant new life here by being performed in a duets format by two masterful vocalists.

He Sang She Sang has been a long work in progress, with sessions taking place in Nashville and Toronto since 2014. Marc describes the song selection process this way: “We’d be driving in the car together and would just get an idea for a song. When we got home, we’d sing it, and if we liked the way that went, we’d put a session together and demo it. If it passed that test, we put it on the list.”

The results are an enchanting mix of Jordan’s smoky resonance plus Sky’s alto trading lines effortlessly before bringing their masterful vocals into perfect harmony. Add in the impeccable musical contributions of top session players in both cities, and an album of wide and timeless appeal is revealed.

HE SANG SHE SANG TRACKLISTING:
1. Free Fallin’
2. Fallin’ For You
3. You
4. Ooh Baby Baby
5. You Were Always On My Mind
6. Long Shot
7. Water From A Stone
8. Dimming Of The Day
9. I’ll Give You Wings
10. God Only Knows
11. Can We Stay?
12. I Have No Doubt

Laszlo Jones and Special Guest Alex Skolnick (Testament) Bring Suicide Awareness to Gen-Z

0

Rock sensation Laszlo Jones is bringing awareness to the masses with his hard-hitting latest single with Special Guest guitarist Alex Skolnick (Testament), on “Kill Myself” off his Beyond The Door EP Produced by Michael Buyens (Life of Agony, The Gathering) and Mixed by Kane Churko (5 Finger Death Punch, Ozzy Osbourne). In true Jones fashion, the song packs a variable punch – taking no prisoners in the process. Skolnick’s thunderous industrious metal axemanship shines throughout the track, as they deliver on their mission to tackle one of society’s most problematic issues – suicide.

“It’s a song about the general lack of well-being, depression endured by many people, leading to self- hate and self-destruction, leading to a dangerous game with death,” Jones explains. Globally suicide rates are at unimaginable all time high and a subject that has been swept under the rug by media worldwide as to the psychological impact of how this pandemic has affected our society and the collateral damage that keeps ravaging humankind young and old. During the recording process, Jones and Skolnick discussed the issue and it was clear they needed to communicate to fans through the music to draw attention to the facts.

The pulsating “Kill Myself” offering isn’t afraid to be daring, loud, and bold. It stares at the problem and smacks it across the face. The track takes a spectacular interest in telling the story like it is – with heart-racing guitar licks, electrified scream-o, heavy percussion all mingled with smart lyrics and fire-catching melodies.

According to Jones, the lyric reflects that young people in particular are currently at risk. “They haven’t been able to have normal social contacts for 2 years now,” he says, adding that it’s been hard for them to maintain what’s essential for adolescents. “Above all, it’s important that people in suicidal crisis, and their relatives, are available to reach a nationwide emergency number at any time,” Jones insists, reminding that professional and psychological support is provided. “Be attentive,” Jones says, “being there for each other and offering help is just as important as stalling a potential suicide.”

“Kill Myself” is included on Jones’ latest EP Beyond The Door (November, 2021). The five-song strong album delves deep into Jones’ creativity, and versatility as a songwriter and composer. A multi-instrumentalist and visionary, the album takes the listener on a soundscape journey through Jones’ inexplicable mind, chasing him through his innate ability to captivate and intrigue. His music videos are equally as impressive, adding an additional layer of thought to the music, directing where Jones wants the song to lead the listener.

On this pounding truth bomb, Laszlo Jones showcases his most vulnerable side yet. Through a dark and desperate trash-metal anthem comes a plea for understanding – an ask that the world not forget yet another soul.

Caribbean-Dutch-Toronto Rapper Big Lou Delivers a Message of Self-Love with Vibrant “I Got You”

0

Hailing from the thriving paradise of Philipsburg, St. Maarten, and back there after living in Toronto for 15 years, Caribbean-Dutch rapper Big Lou delivers the message of self-love we need in the world today with the vibrant new single “I Got You.”

Big Lou is a sonic burst of positivity with “I Got You,” an upbeat rap song highlighting the value of loving oneself and embracing personal growth. Infectious enthusiasm is effortlessly conveyed through Big Lou’s cadence and flow while drawing on his own challenges of giving permission to forgive and love one another.

With an emphasis on vulnerability and openness, “I Got You” is an attempt to connect with anyone endeavoring to overcome their struggles, with Big Lou saying, “we all have our battles, and we can all use some help.”

Prioritizing emotional depth and positivity through music is an essential part of Big Lou’s artistic identity and style of “happy rap music.” Big Lou’s philosophy of authentically communicating through his art comes from the various hardships endured and lessons learned. The radiant optimism embedded within the thoughtful lyrics in “I Got You” is not borne of naivety but is derived from a series of transformational events that provided context on the value of loving oneself.

“Maybe now you’re thinking why I should love me
Cuz without it, is when you’re truly lonely
Caught up inside, without any doubt
It’s a bloody demise, don’t scream or shout
If you do it then you prove it that you’re about to lose it
They’ll abuse it and misuse it, be the one to disprove it.”

It’s the harmonic manifestation of pure musical sunshine, perfect for rhythmically uplifting any cloudy day.

Big Lou began his artistic journey honing his lyrical penmanship and singer/songwriting skills in mid-2019 while practicing his raps for any person who would listen. As Big Lou dealt with many personal hurdles, including knee surgery, he subsequently launched the Go Produce podcast, which featured interviews with music industry professionals offering advice to up and comers. With experience, persistence, and determination, he would realize his musical vision with the debut single “As A Crew,” which was released to overwhelmingly positive reception.

Big Lou has been breaking onto the Canadian and worldwide hip-hop scene sure to appeal to all hip-hop fans. “I Got You” is the second single in a musical career that is already on an upward trajectory.

44-time (!!) Saskatchewan Country Music Awards nominee AMY NELSON Celebrates the Joyful Clumsiness of Falling in Love with “Trippin’”

0

Falling in love is a real trip, isn’t it? Racing hearts, rising temperatures, and that delicious, dizzy feeling when you’re near the object of your affection all add up to one heckuva white knuckle ride we all want to take. Well, buckle up because rising Canadian country-pop artist Amy Nelson is living for the love drop with her smile-a-minute new single, “Trippin.’”

From the first beat, “Trippin’” climbs with a steady march and Nelson’s sweet, sassy vocal before letting go into an undeniably sing-along-able chorus detailing that wild, heart-in-your-mouth descent into love land.

“This song is all about the ups and downs of falling for someone new,” says Nelson. “It’s clumsy, it can be messy, and it’s 100% me.”

Tripping leads to callin’, and callin’ leads to fallin’
And fallin’ leads to I need you, I do
We’re in all of a sudden, why am I always rushing,
Next my Head is spinnin’, back at the beginning, oh my heart is always
Trippin’ and Fallin’

“Trippin’” was co-written by Canadian country hitmakers and multiple BCCMA/CCMA winners Madeline Merlo and Patricia Conroy, along with Dave “Dwave” Thomson and Tina Gemza. The minute she heard the song, Nelson knew it was telling her story and headed into the studio to record it with multi-platinum, multi-award-winning Canadian producer Jeff Dalziel (The Washboard Union, Jim Cuddy, Jessica Mitchell, Brett Kissel).

“This song was written by four amazing writers, but it sounds so much like me that it’s like I was in the room with them,” explains the 44-time (!!) Saskatchewan Country Music Awards nominee. “I don’t really fall in love gracefully, I generally trip over my own feet.”

That’s an endearing reveal that makes this effervescent artist and song instantly relatable and lovable.

Shot in Nelson’s hometown of Regina and released with perfect timing on Valentine’s Day, the video for “Trippin’” adds a ton of visual lovability to the tune. At least one of the local filming locations, which includes a vintage clothing store and a bowling alley, has a very personal connection for the Saskatchewan-born and raised singer/songwriter.

“It was so fun to film. We had two great actors and we even shot the dance scene at my own studio where I run my music school for kids.”

With as much drive to support and develop other artists as she has for herself, Amy Nelson has grown into being one of the crown jewels in Saskatchewan’s music scene. A former high school music teacher, Nelson opened a music school in 2011 called Sing Like A STAR, at which she has taught over 3,000 children to confidently follow their own artistic dreams. Concurrently from 2011 – 2018, Nelson served on SaskMusic’s board of directors, playing an instrumental role in advancing the province’s music industry.

2019 was a big year for Nelson. Her third and most recent album, Good Intentions, was voted the #2 Best Album in Saskatchewan in all genres. She won 620 CKRM’s Proudly Saskatchewan Showcase, a 40-year-old provincial competition with previous winners including Jess Moskaluke, Brad Johner, and Tenille Arts. Also in 2019, Nelson was recognized from the floor of the Saskatchewan Legislative Assembly for her intercontinental musical successes.

Nelson’s roots, both personal and musical, may be planted in the heart of Saskatchewan but her fast-growing career has taken her far afield to make lasting impressions. She’s lit up stages Down Under for Australian Music Week, as well as at Australia’s Groundwater Music Festival and Gympie Music Muster. Her 2019 single “Hey Love”, written by multi-award winner Jeff Cohen (Sugarland, The Band Perry, Big & Rich), reached #6 on the Australian country music charts. Elsewhere, Nelson was set to showcase just last month at the 2022 AmericanaFest UK in London, which was unfortunately canceled due to the Omicron COVID variant wave.

Now, with the world cautiously re-opening in 2022, Amy Nelson is poised to go trippin’ up the Canadian and international charts and hopefully, down the road to many waiting stages.

Wet Leg release new song “Ur Mum”

0

On Friday, Isle of Wight’s Wet Leg will release their eagerly anticipated self-titled debut album. Since unleashing their first single in June last year, things have moved at lightning speed for Rhian Teasdale and Hester Chambers – from selling out all their live shows in minutes, performing on US TV three times, being crowned number 2 in BBC’s Sound of 2022 to racking up 40M global streams and 9M YouTube views as well as been touted, most recently, by Dave Grohl, Lorde and Jack White. Before all twelve tracks from Wet Leg are revealed, today the duo share new song “Ur Mum”.

“Ur Mum” opens with a spectacular insult lobbed in the direction of an ex-boyfriend: “When I think about what you’ve become, I feel sorry for your mum” but the song also nods to outgrowing the slow pace of life and small town energy of the island: “When the lights go down on this fucking town, I know it’s time to go” and results in Rhian letting out her “longest and loudest scream” for 11.02 seconds. Teasdale says of the song: “I was pretty angry at the way things had gone in this particular dynamic. It’s just a diss song I wrote to make myself feel better. It worked.”

The video directed by Lava La Rue who says: “The Ur Mum video was all about bringing the viewer into the Wet Leg world – sprinkling details throughout the visual that not only reference at least 4 songs off the album but also plenty of inside jokes within the band too. Artistically it shows where the aesthetic of American indie films like Napoleon Dynamite fit perfectly in the scape of rural British settings – this concept first came to me when the band took me to IOW for the first time – I saw the connection and it all clicked into place.”

The band have just completed an extensive round of touring in North America including roadblock SXSW showcases, an Academy Awards pre party for YSL, performing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and The Late Late Show with James Corden.
