Author & Composer Patrick Kimmell Presents a Very Novel Way to Enjoy His Book, Two Lives to a Destiny

0

Movies and television shows would lack so much dimension and emotional heft without being accompanied by music so, why shouldn’t a book have a soundtrack too? That’s a question author and composer Patrick Kimmell was likely asking himself before composing the downloadable soundtrack to his novel Two Lives to a Destiny — available now!

Kimmell and his musical partner and arranger Andrei Panasevich, also known as Mel & Harmon, have created 11 original compositions to musically illustrate the chapters of Kimmell’s novel Two Lives to a Destiny. Designed to be listened to while reading the novel, the soundtrack is a first-of-its-kind endeavor, adding musical context to the book’s narrative and an enhanced dimension to reader’s emotional experience.

Originally published on September 29, 2020, Two Lives to a Destiny is a romantic and suspenseful novel that tells the story of Patrick and Fatima, two lovers engulfed in adventures that separate them from each other. Still, they are willing to live the impossible in order to meet again. Both will need a surmountable amount of strength and faith, to make their love eternal.

“Set in the early 1700s, this is the story of two souls who challenge and overcome societal obstacles erected by their different origins, cultures, and traditions,” explains Kimmell. “It’s an exciting journey of lovers who meet for the first time, fall in love unexpectedly, unprepared, and unaware of the quests that lie ahead just so that they can meet – only another time. But is this really their destiny?”

While reading the novel inspires readers to ‘see’ what’s happening in their minds, hearing the music written for that part of the story will only serve to enhance and add vibrancy to those mental images.

Kimmell also plans to take his soundtrack for Two Lives to a Destiny to yet another level. “My next step is to create the musical, to which all the lyrics have already been written by Vaughn Harbin,” he notes.

Originally from Bedford, Québec and now residing in Brampton, Ontario, Kimmell discovered his love for classical music and composing a little later in life, admirably tackling learning piano and composition in his thirties.

“At 30, wanting to be challenged other than the daily life routines, I decided to purchase my first piano and enrolled myself into classical music lessons at Le Studio d’Orgues et Pianos de Joliette,” he recalls. “This is where it all began. Five months later, after completing preparatory training and first-grade music lessons I was invited to play at the 19th Annual Recital at Le Musee d’Art de Joliette. I would be playing Beethoven’s ‘Sonata Quasi Una Fantasia’ (Moonlight Sonata) and my own sonata called ‘The Dream’.”

After a prolific period in 2003 during which he composed most of what has now become the Two Lives to a Destiny soundtrack, life took over and music took a back burner. Twelve years later, Kimmell rediscovered his musical passion and has made it an essential part of his creative life.

“In 2015, I jumped back on the music wagon and this time I’m holding on tight, no more distractions. It’ll be clear sailing ’til death do us part.”

Just like the lovers he’s written about in Two Loves to a Destiny, Patrick Kimmell and his music have found each other again, for good.

Two Lives to a Destiny is available via Amazon, Barnes and Noble and twolivestoadestiny.com and the accompanying soundtrack is also now available for download.

Singer/Songwriter Tate Irving Tells an Up-Tempo Tale of Hardship & Growth in “She Said”

0

Canadian singer/songwriter Tate Irving electrifies with his signature pop-punk sound to tell a tale filled with hardship and personal growth with his catchy new single “She Said.”

“She Said” is an upbeat melody brimming with a charm that showcases Irving’s penchant for storytelling while demonstrating his life-long commitment to music through his abilities as a multi-instrumentalist. With the benefit of hindsight, Irving draws on his own experiences and setbacks to convey his uplifting message of self-acceptance in an authentic way.

Irving wrote “She Said” at 20-years-old, initially framing it as a series of life lessons passed down by Irving’s mother. As Irving says, “just the things she had taught me over the years and the importance of good values.” As time passed, the song was revised many times and transitioned from a slower acoustic piece into music that is much more up-tempo.

Irving reflected on the trials and tribulations of his 20s and the helpful advice he received to inspire a critical message of self-help and self-fulfillment.

“Well, you could start a revolution by the end of the day
Or build a white picket fence at the end of your lane
Post pictures on the internet for people you hate
Or work a 9-5 for a minimum wage
and maybe it’s just me and it just seems,
That this might be the next worse thing
So, you do you and I’ll do me”

The music’s kinetic energy is complemented by vocal harmonies and multisyllabic rhyme schemes that emphasize Tate Irving’s raw lyrical talent.

Born in Sundre, Alberta, Irving’s passion for music formed at a young age when he began reading and playing piano sheet music at 5-years-old. His love for music eventually blossomed into an admiration for pop-punk bands such as Sum 41 and Blink-182. He started his first band in his teens called Muppet Nectar after picking the drums up from his uncle. Fast-forward years later to a chance encounter with a hostel owner in Indonesia where Irving was tasked to perform his first gig with original music; he consistently sold-out weekly shows to locals.

After returning to Canada, Irving met another pivotal figure in his music career, audio engineer Ryan Frampton. This collaborative relationship would lead to a publishing deal with Bedroom Records that continues to strengthen over time. With a suite of releases on the horizon, there is no doubt that the musical veracity of Tate Irving will be enjoyed for the foreseeable future.

August, Yours Truly Unveils Eulogy of Self-Acceptance & Expression in Spoken Word “Easy Listening”

0

Niagara Falls, ON artist August, Truly Yours delivers a tumultuous eulogy of self-acceptance and self-expression through spoken word with the hypnotizing new single “Easy Listening.”

Inspired by the emotional uncertainty felt within relationships, “Easy Listening” is a whirling maelstrom of intimate communication projected through a sonic framework. As August, Yours Truly himself puts it, “It’s this surreal stream of consciousness, like a bunch of intrusive thoughts appearing in the middle of the night.”

The blistering new single is off the upcoming album, Performance of a Lifetime, which is set to release in June 2022. This album is not just an experimental soundscape; it’s a visceral manifestation of ideas surrounding more than just uncertainty, “it’s also about becoming more sure of yourself and the confidence and clarity in life that brings you.”

August, Yours Truly lays it all on the line with a dramatic departure from his known sound “ I’m taking on more indie art-rock influences, things are a bit noisier, and my vocals are more present than ever before.” The unpredictability in the studio only expanded the scope of opportunity for anything to happen during the creation process.

The inspiration behind the distinct musical style of August, Yours Truly is based heavily on one of the most iconic sample records of all time, Since I Left You by The Avalanches. The discovery of that album changed what August, Yours Truly thought was possible to turn samples and soundbites into music.

Conceptual experimentation guides the sound of “Easy Listening” along with a raw lyrical approach that plunges listeners into the harrowing depths of August, Yours Truly’s mind.

“Dirt under my rotten nails
That I’ve neglected to replace
Old judgements I’ve raised from the dead
A parasite burrowing through
My hardened narrow mind
It controls me
Or do I control it”

Struggles with identity have been a significant theme in the life of August, Yours Truly founder Taylor Elliott. “Growing up in a Christian household, it was difficult for me to come to terms with my bisexuality in a very visceral way… I was more affected than I realized.” Elliott bravely conveys the trials and tribulations of his upbringing to inspire others to look inward, “I’m performing through my art as a way of connecting with people.”

TWISTED ROYALTY Take Destiny by the Horn with Groovy New Song, “Unicorn”

0

British singer/songwriting duo Twisted Royalty fulfill their destiny as rock stars with a groovy song about the unattainable connection between two people we all long for on the fiery new single, “Unicorn.”

Co-written with Speech, Twisted Royalty’s synthesis of funky bass licks and artisanal lyricism is on full display with “Unicorn,” a track about the complexity of relationships. All of the intricacies and social dynamics associated with healthy connections are playfully explored in this pseudo-love song. The sonic affinity the duo shares is further enhanced by their biological sisterhood, making for a cohesive musical experience that immediately attracts anyone within earshot.

“Unicorn” is a blend of soulful vocal harmonies, rock-solid percussion and bass, and jazzy embellishments with a perfect head-bobbing tempo. The melodic spirit of the music is elevated through sophisticated musicianship that doesn’t take itself too seriously and isn’t afraid to be playful. These elements combine to form an acoustically pleasant experience that transports audiences to another musical dimension.

The elaborate composition of the music is matched by the craftsmanship of the lyrics. Decadent vocal work is layered throughout the meticulously constructed verses that blur the line between hip-hop lyricism and spoken word in a compelling fashion.

“I think most relationships would work
If from the jump we understood that it’s work
Something makes us think that it’s all in the flirts,
romantic dinners and nice desserts
All the perks of being in love but none of the hurt”

Twisted Royalty is the brainchild of sisters Lisa and Tami Wilder. As daughters of the lead singer of the 70’s funk band Heatwave, Keith Wilder, these rock n’ roll siblings have been passionately connected to music from a young age. Born and raised in the U.K, these sisters sought to carve out their own artistic path instead of following in their family’s footsteps.

Harnessing their skills as part of a band for over ten years, the Wilder sisters have toured the U.S with countless experiences on the road that have contributed to the accomplished artists they are today. All of this has culminated in the sharpened edge of musical brilliance that makes Twisted Royalty stand out from any working band.

“Little One” Has Seattle Rock-Blues Artist SAMI CHOHFI’s Heart in New Single

0

Sami Chohfi has lost his heart, and he’s asking her where she’s taking it on his new rock single, “Little One.”

The Extraordinary World singer/songwriter from Seattle mashes up rock and blues on his latest offering; an exciting sonic journey through love and love lost…

Expertly spinning the yarn on a familiar fable of falling for and failing to reckon when it falls apart, Chohfi’s exquisite lyrics, delivered in his signature rasp and undeniable singing prowess, bring a modern flair and uniqueness to the track’s unrequited love story.

“‘Little One’ was written while watching an episode of one of my favorite TV shows, AMC’s The Walking Dead,” Chohfi reveals. “I was watching a woman devour her lover and it got me thinking, ‘wow, this is a lot like a real relationship…’”

Marrying fact with fiction, Chohfi spins the tale on the ups and downs, craziness, and realities of relationships. The track features a variety of flair including ukulele, a 1960’s vintage piano solo, and a cameo by Kellii Scott (Failure) on percussion. “I wanted to write a catchy blues rock song with a unique vibe inspired by the one thing that inspires us to be at our most crazy, love,” Chohfi says.

Paired off with a visual component, the music video for “Little One” brings Chohfi’s story to life… Or, rather, ahem, to death.

Featuring an undead cast of characters for a Zombie-apocalypse-esque mini-drama, Chohfi’s unique double entendre is spelled out in his creativity to tell a tale. (‘Where are you going with my heart, Little One?’ he croons both figuratively, and in this video, literally.) Our protagonists make a quick stop at a gas station where the lead actress becomes infected. From there, her unassuming partner is seemingly ignorant of her venture into the land of the dead and, as she slowly descends into making him her next meal, the world around them is falling further into the hell flames of a full Zombie take-over.

“The intro features the voice of legendary radio personality, Marco Collins, over the car radio,” Chohfi explains. “We hired makeup artist Christina Kortum, who worked on the American TV show Grimm and is currently working on the new season of American Horror Story, to ensure the special FX makeup was top notch.

“The song and video tell the story of a romantic relationship that is not only infectious but consumingly toxic in all the right ways,” he continues. “Sometimes we find ourselves in love with the wrong person but, for some reason, we love the way it hurts and we keep coming back for more.”

“Little One” and “The Awakening” both serve as Sami Chohfi’s latest singles and, with the world slowly regaining its footing after a multi-year pandemic, the songwriter is venturing out on tour overseas this winter.

No zombies allowed.

Alt-Rocker Sivan Langer Reveals Electrifying New Rock Anthem in “Three Monkey Song”

0

There’s no monkey business involved on Sivan Langer’s electrifying rock anthem, “Three Monkey Song”… The grunge rocker with a song on his soul bursts out of the jungle with this exciting up-tempo track.

“The song was written when I lived in Tel Aviv as a student, finishing my first degree, but I didn’t finish all the parts,” explains Langer. “The outro section was added just before the recording sessions started because the song was too short.

“I liked the idea of the ‘stops’,” he continues. “It’s unusual in music since it requires considerable coordination between the instruments.”

The result is a handcrafted, energized and supersized prose on annihilation told through Langer’s perspective of where he was emotionally during the creation of the track. The Blues-enthusiast borrows from his years as a musician influenced by an eclectic array of genres and artists to concoct a song that resonates on every level of the human condition. His music allures the Seattle grunge scene; his lyrics tackle societal woes and subjects.

Mixed by Darrell Thorp (Beck), and mastered by Gavin Lurrsen (Foo Fighters), Langer reveals “Three Monkey Song” was recorded in his home studio with the assistance of a friend and fellow drummer. “The track was recorded in my house,” Langer shares. “A friend of mine is a talented drummer and I tried to convince him to join. Eventually, he was more of an advisor.

“It wasn’t clear if we had a budget for a professional recording studio so we went for a home studio,” he continues. “The project studio route is much easier for computer-based music. For acoustic music, it was a pain, but you learn a lot, and there is some fun in the process (when you are not crying).

“Interestingly, each person involved in this track was at their project studio. That’s the way the whole album is recorded.”

“Three Monkey Song” nips, tugs, and pulls from the earliest sounds made famous by Nirvana and Pixies while masterfully maneuvering into modern rock. Langer’s agility to roll through lyrics that resonate, while laying down the hooks that acquiesce the listener from listening to experiencing, is no small feat. His delivery is flawless.

“Music is an emotional endeavor,” Langer says, adding that listeners are invited to join him on his musical journey.

Prepare yourself to go ape for Sivan Langer’s “Three Monkey Song”. It’s the sonic wild ride you’ve been searching for.

D.K. LYONS Breathes Readies the Season of Sun with New Single, “Summer Lullabies (Tropical Remix)”

0

D.K. LYONS’ revamp of his pop-rock anthem “Summer Lullabies (Tropical Remix)” is a fluid, feel-good pop remix sure to splash some color on your summer playlist.

Featuring Rafa Soto, “Summer Lullabies (Tropical Remix)” is an optimistic and vibrant banger ubiquitous with bubbly lyrics and tones. Fueled by hyperbolic rays of sunshine and crashing waves, D.K. LYONS’s remix of “Summer Lullabies” is reminiscent of a mixture of Kygo and Bad Bunny smashing together in a musical hadron collider.

Initially imagined as a pop-rock anthem focused on authenticity and self-love, coupled with an energetic and empathic video, the original “Summer Lullabies” was produced in the summer of 2021; its music video featured the Manhattan-based artist dressed as a plethora of current pop artists — including Harry Styles, Drake, Phoebe Bridgers, Machine Gun Kelly, Tom Petty, and other “cameos.”

“The idea was to promote authenticity and poke fun at the music industry and their not-so-subtle attempts to control artists and fit them into boxes,” reflects D.K. LYONS.
The 2022 summer remix of “Summer Lullabies (Tropical Remix),” however, breathes a new life into this concept of originality. Other than bringing in Colombian artist Rafa Soto to introduce some creative flair to the song’s second verse, D.K. LYONS relies on the same team to bring the magic into this remix — creating a ripe harvest of summertime roof parties and late sunsets throughout this awe-inspiring energetic production.
“The original lyrics were inspired by a rooftop party that I attended during the summer of 2020 as COVID restrictions lifted in NYC,” D.K. LYONS shares. “The song is a direct response to my previous lead single, ‘Danger’ — a song that represented the struggles in embracing an unknown future and identity questions.
“‘Summer Lullabies’ confronts these feelings head-on through self-discovery and an individual focus on growing in the moment and not lingering on the end result,” he adds.
D.K. LYONS is a singer/songwriter/producer who values authenticity above all else. With head-turning lyrical creativity prompting intrigue among new listeners, as well as his ballooning fan base, he possesses an innate ability to create imagery that produces genuine human feeling and connection — making each listening experience one of a kind.
D.K. LYONS has been making music since he could talk and, by the age of five, had his eyes set on becoming a rockstar; he has been writing songs ever since. Working his way up from simple song titles to full lyric sheets, failing guitar lessons to writing powerful chord structures, and all the struggles of self-producing music, D.K. LYONS’ recorded his first studio EP, Blame My Astrology, in 2018.
From there he has released an additional LP, The Past (Romanticized), which received critical acclaim; his most recent EP, Vandalism, features the original version of “Summer Lullabies.”

A new large-format 400-page collectible art book curated by the band’s three surviving founding members. They incorporated folk, country, and jazz, influences into a fresh blend that helped define an era. “And not to be too shallow,” Tom Petty once wrote, “but they also were just the best-dressed band around. They had those great clothes and hairdos.” Now the band’s three surviving founding members – Roger McGuinn, Chris Hillman, and David Crosby – have come together to present The Byrds: 1964-1967, a large format tabletop book that offers a unique visual history of the group.
