0

Tom Petty, Somewhere You Feel Free: The Making of Wildflowers will see its theatrical release on October 20 (Tom’s birthday) for a one-night global celebration via Trafalgar Releasing, with encore screenings in select cinemas on October 21. Fans can experience the film on the big screen with immersive surround-sound before YouTube Originals will make it available worldwide for free in full 4K resolution on Tom Petty’s YouTube
Channel
later this year. Watch an early clip of the film below. Tickets are on sale now at TomPettyFilm.com.

The uplifting 89-minute documentary was directed by award-winning filmmaker Mary Wharton (Jimmy Carter: Rock and Roll President, Sam Cooke: Legend, Elvis Lives!, The Beatles Revolution) and first debuted in March as an Official SXSW 2021 Selection, winning the festival’s Audience Award. The film went on to win Best Documentary Film at the Boulder Film Festival and received widespread critical acclaim throughout the film festival season. The picture digs deeper into 2020’s critically acclaimed certified gold reissue, Wildflowers & All The Rest collection (Warner Records) which revealed the long anticipated second half of Tom’s autobiographical masterpiece.

Tom Petty, Somewhere You Feel Free: The Making of Wildflowers offers a unique look into the creative mastery and turbulent personal life of the legendary rock star, and captures the period of 1993-1995, when Tom worked with legendary producer Rick Rubin for the first time. The film is an unvarnished look at Petty that features never-before-seen footage drawn from a newly discovered archive of 16mm film as well as new interviews with album co-producer and Heartbreakers guitarist Mike Campbell along with Heartbreakers keyboardist Benmont Tench and many more.

Produced by Peter Afterman with executive producers Dan Braun, Mary Wharton and Adria Petty and presented by Inaudible Films, Warner Music Entertainment (Warner Music Group’s TV and Film division) and Warner Records, the documentary illuminates an artist at the height of his powers, providing an intimate and moving look at an enigmatic icon.

Kymberli Frueh, SVP for Programming and Content Acquisitions for Trafalgar Releasing says, “This cinema event will celebrate the music and life of Tom Petty on his birthdate, offering a chance for fans across the globe to congregate and see the film and hear the music together in a high quality immersive theatrical experience. The legacy of his creativity and the legendary songs he created at this seminal time lives on in our playlists.”

In honor of today’s announcement Mary Wharton and Adria Petty will speak about the film with rock author/journalist David Fricke on SiriusXM’s Tom Petty Radio. Subscribers can also listen anytime on the SXM app and hear replays today at 4 p.m. ET, 7 p.m. ET, 11 p.m. ET and tomorrow at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. ET.

The Washboard Union Announce “Everbound For Your Town” Tour

0

Hot on the heels of their sixth nomination for Group of the Year at the CCMA Awards– and 3x-reigning winners in that category – The Washboard Union are heading back on the road for the “Everbound For Your Town Tour,” with stops in 24 Canadian cities and towns.

“Playing live is the life-blood of this band and being with our fans is something we’ve been missing for almost 2 years,” says band member Chris Duncombe. “We wanted our first tour back to take us to as many communities as possible both big and small to say thank you to our fans who have stuck with us and allowed us to follow our dreams.”

The Washboard Union will also be offering limited “VIP All Access Experiences“ on this tour that will give fans a unique acoustic performance and Q&A with the band before every show. Packages will be available for purchase with tickets to any of the shows.

Joining the band on the tour in an opening slot is CCMA Discovery Award winner and fellow British Columbia native, Raquel Cole, who is also a finalist in this year’s upcoming SiriusXM Top of the Country contest at Canadian Country Music Week in London, ON.

The band chose to release its latest CCMA award-winning album Everbound on April 24, 2020, during the height of the pandemic. “There is an undercurrent of hope that unites the songs on the “Everbound” album that we thought we all could use during these difficult times. Music has always help get us through hard times so that’s why we chose to release the album rather than wait. We are so glad we did,” says the band member David Roberts. The Washboard Union also kept their fans engaged throughout 2020 with live streamed performances to tens of thousands through their Live From the Mountain series on Instagram, performed selected outdoor live shows, and donated their recorded performance to Sakamoto Agency’s 100 Homes initiative, which delivered over 300 personalized concerts to care homes during visitation restrictions.

At last year’s Canadian Country Music Awards, The Washboard Union took home the award for Group or Duo of the Year for the third consecutive year, becoming the first band in a decade to win in the category for three straight years, with hope for a fourth straight win in 2021. They also won their fifth consecutive award in the Roots category, and have earned nine career CCMA Award wins with 15 nominations. The band was also awarded a 2021 SOCAN Country Music Award for their single “Country Thunder,” which became their second career Gold single, in 2021.

The Washboard Union has become Canada’s preeminent country band with a growing following all over the world. Resonating with audiences far and wide from North America to Europe, The Washboard Union’s dynamic live performances have set them apart as one of the most unique talents in music today. The 2 time gold-certified trio are also winners of the Juno Award for Breakthrough Group of the Year, and have an incredible 31 music awards under their belt.

Aaron Goodvin Announces New EP ‘Lucky Stars’ To Be Released October 22

0

Country music star and 2x 2021 CCMA Award nominee Aaron Goodvin has announced the release of his new EP, Lucky Stars, due out October 22. Goodvin teams up again with Grammy-nominated producer Matt McClure, who he worked with on his 2019 JUNO Award nominated album “V,” and features the Alberta-born, Nashville-based artist alongside an esteemed lineup of collaborators, creating dazzling music ranging from the ridiculously catchy to the wildly cinematic.

“I’m so incredibly proud of this EP and every song that is on it,” says Goodvin. “Every time we put something out, we get more dialed in. Can’t wait for the world to hear.”

Also today, Goodvin has released a new song, “You Ain’t,” accompanied by an official lyric video. “You Ain’t” is the third song to be released ahead of Lucky Stars, following this summer’s hit “Boy Like Me,” which is currently Top 10 at Canadian country radio, and the incandescent tune “About Mexico.”

On Tuesday, September 28, Goodvin will launch a weekly live stream series called “Counting My Lucky Stars.” Tune in on his Facebook, Twitter or YouTube Tuesdays at 8:30 pm ET/7:30 PM CT for songs, stories and an inside look at the new EP.

Last night, Goodvin picked up two CCMA Award nominations – in the Interactive Artist of the Year and Songwriter of the Year categories – bringing his career total to nine nominations. The CCMA Awards will be handed out in London, Ontario, in November.

Meanwhile, as “Boy Like Me” rises up the Canadian charts, Goodvin’s bona fide anthem and line dance sensation “Lonely Drum” continues to pull ecstatic fans into its orbit, most recently influential American radio host Bobby Bones, who championed the track on his nationally syndicated show, which is syndicated to nearly 200 stations in the U.S. and Canada. Already a double-platinum smash in Canada, “Lonely Drum” continues to climb the charts stateside.

In addition to being an electrifying live performer, country music star Aaron Goodvin is an incomparable singer/songwriter whose music resonates with fans worldwide. His dossier includes two critically acclaimed albums, a number one single, several top 10s, a 2018 CCMA Songwriter of the Year Award, a 2020 JUNO Award nomination for Country Album of the Year, and a tour with Rascal Flatts. Lucky Stars is the first of a planned pair of EPs teeing up major touring intended to bring Goodvin’s uniquely accessible music to every corner of the planet.

Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band’s “The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts” Film To Be Released Worldwide For The First Time This November

0

Sony Music Entertainment’s Premium Content Division, in partnership with Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, has announced “The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts,” a Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band film featuring ten never-before released performances from the Madison Square Garden MUSE benefit concerts, and full footage of the band’s entire setlist for the first time. Edited by longtime Springsteen collaborator Thom Zimny from the original 16mm film alongside remixed audio from Bob Clearmountain, “The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts” represent the highest quality and best recorded Bruce Springsteen performances from an explosive, ascendant and rarely-filmed era of the E Street Band. “The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts” film will be released in HD on physical formats November 19, including on two CD with DVD, two CD with Blu-Ray and two LP formats. The film will be available globally in HD for digital download on November 16 and digital rental on November 23.

“A few years ago, I started re-examining the filmed archives for Bruce and the Band’s appearances at the No Nukes concerts of 1979,” said Thom Zimny. “I quickly realized that these were the best performances and best filming from the Band’s legendary Seventies, and dedicated myself to bringing out the full potential of the footage. Having worked as Bruce’s principal director and editor for the last 20 years, I can say without reservation that this newly re-edited, re-mixed and restored ninety minute film is the gold standard for Bruce and the Band live during one of their greatest creative periods.”

“The Seventies were a golden period in the history of Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, and the Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts is the greatest document of that era we will ever have,” said Jon Landau. “It’s a pure rock show from beginning to end, the energy level is transcendent, and the mastery of the art and the craft of rock music is awe inspiring.”

“We’re thrilled to be able to give audiences around the world the opportunity to witness these groundbreaking performances,” said Tom Mackay, President, Premium Content, Sony Music Entertainment. “‘The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts’ is a rare opportunity to experience an event that became an instant classic and marked a pivotal moment for Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band.”

Watch “The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts” trailer below.

A composite of two performances captured during the multi-day ‘No Nukes’ concerts, the film packs the intensity of a marathon Bruce Springsteen and The E Street Band show into a crackling 90 minute run-time. Among the highlights are then-unreleased versions of “The River” and “Sherry Darling,” live staples “Badlands,” “Born To Run” and “Thunder Road,” plus covers of Buddy Holly’s “Rave On” and a version of Maurice Williams’ “Stay” featuring special guests Jackson Browne, Tom Petty and Rosemary Butler. Noted film producer Jon Kilik, who served in the camera crew for the No Nukes concerts and penned liner notes for this release, reflects that “magic was in the air. The energy on stage and from the crowd was beyond measure and description.” “The Legendary 1979 No Nukes Concerts” were captured while Springsteen and the E Street Band were in the midst of recording The River and just after the conclusion of their breakout 1978 Darkness Tour, marking a rare chance to witness the future Rock and Roll Hall of Famers comprehensively in the heart of their reputation-making rise.
