2021 JUNO Winning Jazz-Pop Artist Sammy Jackson Sings Regret So Sweet in “What Is There To Say?”

0

Fresh off the sweet success of her first time win for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year at the 2021 JUNO Awards, St. Catharines, ON Jazz-Pop R&B singer-songwriter Sammy Jackson arrives with her rapturous new single, “What Is There To Say?” — available now.

Further exemplifying her distinct sound that smoothly melds elements of jazz, R&B and pop, “What Is There To Say?” showcases the celebrated Jamaican-Canadian vocalist and songwriter in top form; it’s the perfect happy-sad song with Jackson delivering an achingly beautiful lament of pain and uncertainty juxtaposed with an instrumental melody that evokes warmth and contentment.

Drive me crazy or make me sad
I just want to forget what we had

“‘What Is There To Say’ is about a relationship ending and not knowing what the future holds,” Jackson notes. “The lyrics illustrate a feeling of sadness and regret while the harmonic progression conveys a feeling of hope and a new beginning.”

On June 5th, 2021, Sammy Jackson took home the JUNO Award for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year for her sophomore EP, With You. She won the honour over a field of superbly talented, established peers including Diana Krall, Laila Biali, Matt Dusk, and Sophie Day. “I am truly humbled and honoured to receive this award,” Jackson says of her reaction. “Thank you to everyone involved in this project, and everyone who has believed in me throughout this journey. I would not be here without you.”

Following up her debut release, 2016’s Take Me Back, the JUNO winning With You features all-original compositions in collaboration with vocalist and songwriter Jacqueline Teh, as well as Tom Fleming (guitar), Chris Pruden (piano), Mark Godfrey (bass), and Ian Wright (drums). The project was funded by FACTOR and the Ontario Arts Council.

As heard and seen on JAZZ.FM91’s One-Stop Jazz Safari, Glenn Gould Studio, The Rex Hotel Jazz and Blues Bar, Luminato, TIFF Bell Lightbox, and more, Sammy Jackson has also shared the stage with the likes of Barbra Lica, Robi Botos, Rich Brown, and Larnell Lewis, to name a few.

In addition to gathering performing experience, Jackson pursued a formal education in music, earning a Bachelor of Music in Performance degree from the University of Toronto, studying with accomplished vocalists including Alex Samaras, Christine Duncan and Sienna Dahlen.

With her first JUNO Award on her mantle and certainly many more accolades to be won, there will be plenty to say about Sammy Jackson’s artistry in the years to come.

“What Is There To Say?” and With You are both available now.

Jazz-Folk Sister Singer/Songwriters CAMERON & CRAWFORD Reminisce In “This Time, This Place”

0

Using the momentum from the debut of their emotionally authentic releases “I Want a Song,” “Dark Road,” and “Sometimes in September,” Saskatoon, SK sister-singer-songwriters Cameron & Crawford celebrate connection and gratitude with their new single, “This Time, This Place” — available now.

This poetic duo, Trish Cameron and Wendy Crawford, continue to diversify their catalog of music, stepping across the constraints of genre to focus on melodic and lyrical prowess; “This Time, This Place” does everything right when tugging at the nostalgic heartstrings behind the folksy guitar and soothing vocals.

The song started in a Saskatoon living room, grew in a camp cabana in Sorrento, British Columbia, and was recorded mid-pandemic back where it all began — at Saskatchewan’s Beez Neez Recording with Simon Jasieniuk as engineer and contributing percussionist. Ghostboy’s Denis Dufresne, who Trish studied with, adds the mandolin track; “Denis brings just the perfect, graceful finishing touches and sparkle to the song,” they say of his contribution.

At the track’s inception, exploring the question on ‘what the song wants to be about,’ the sisters share that Wendy had recalled a walk with a friend in an old Saskatoon neighborhood on a particularly hot summer day. “The streets were lined with big trees, and what a difference being under those trees made!” she remembers. “The memory of cool shade, dancing leaves, and joy in the moment fit well with the feelings evoked by chords and melody.”

The song wasn’t finished, but Wendy had to leave on a trip to Europe, returning weeks later just in time to drive to the music camp the sisters attend every year. Jetlagged and unable to sleep in the little cabana they shared, Wendy had the song running through her head — complete with fresh ideas for the lyrics. “Trish woke up, too,” Wendy says, “and, although it was 4:00 a.m., she made coffee and we set to work where we had left off weeks before.”

“From the point of ‘I love the tree I’m under,’ we explored what else could you love about a summer day,” Trish adds. “How about the dress you’re wearing? The song you’re singing? Who you’re sharing the experience with? The opportunity to love a special moment in life?”

“Love and appreciation beget more love and appreciation, and ‘This Time, This Place’ reminds us to recognize and treasure magical moments,” the pair agree. “Nothing’s better than this time, this place.”

“I love the song I’m singing, Wonder how it came to me,” comes right from the two Prairie sisters, and further confirms the organic process the duo use when making music. In a discussion around their previous release, “Sometime in September,” Trish elaborates on that process: “Our process in songwriting usually starts with a chord progression that we respond to emotionally.”

This process has grown familiar to Cameron & Crawford over the 10 years the duo have been making music together. “We took our musical mantra from the amazing Brian Wilson, who said, ‘I want to make music I want to hear and that gives me great joy,’” Trish says of what goes into the duo’s songs. “In 2019 and 2020, we felt it was particularly important to share joy and remind people to notice the beauty and connection they have in their lives.

“We have all been through a lot!”

While “This Time, This Place” is a joy and love-filled song, the duo tackle any emotion or topic that speaks to them; Cameron & Crawford have no reservations when it comes to their creative process, as the two try to push each other as singer/songwriters. “Neither of us will let the other ‘chicken out,’” Trish remarks. “We keep encouraging each other’s growth and creative courage.”

“This Time, This Place” is the latest in a line of single releases Cameron & Crawford have planned this year leading up to the debut of their up-coming album. While we wait for that release, “This Time, This Place” should help ease listeners into a state of relaxed appreciation.

“This Time, This Place” is available now!

Paul McCartney Eelases The Video Of The Year With “Find My Way (Feat. Beck)”

0

Paul McCartney’s “Find My Way (feat. Beck)” has been #ThreeImagined as a psychedelic visual trip that blurs the boundaries of time, space — and even identity.

The “Find My Way (feat. Beck)” video was co-produced by Hyperreal Digital, which specializes in the creation of hyper-realistic digital avatars. “The technology to de-age talent and have them perform in creative environments like this is now fully-realized, even with one of the most recognized faces in the world,” said Hyperreal’s CEO Remington Scott.

Directed by Andrew Donoho (Janelle Monae, The Strokes, Khalid) and choreographed by Phil Tayag (Bruno Mars, Jabbawockeez), “Find My Way (feat. Beck)” was unveiled to the world today via a global broadcast premiere on MTV Live, MTVU and across MTV’s worldwide network of channels, as well as on the ViacomCBS Times Square billboard in New York.

“Find My Way (feat. Beck)” is the opening track of III Imagined, which is released on vinyl, CD and cassette July 23.

Upon its digital release in April, McCartney III Imagined moved The New York Times to say, “Don’t take Paul McCartney’s enduring gifts — natural melody, succinctly surprising lyrics, sly chord progressions, tidy arrangements — for granted. Other songwriters don’t.” Personally curated by Paul, the album features an eclectic all-star lineup featuring Damon Albarn, Anderson .Paak, Blood Orange, Phoebe Bridgers, EOB, Dominic Fike, Josh Homme, Khruangbin, St. Vincent and 3D RDN of Massive Attack, each covering and/or reimagining their favorite moments from Paul’s acclaimed McCartney III album in their own signature styles. The result is a kaleidoscopic reinterpretation – one that serves as an extension of the instantly beloved McCartney III while standing on its own as a brilliant and adventurous milestone in the McCartney discography.

Physical editions of McCartney III Imagined will include the exclusive bonus track “Long Tailed Winter Bird (Idris Elba Remix).”

Judas Priest Is Releasing A 42-CD Box Set

0

One of heavy metal’s greatest bands Judas Priest are set to release a mammoth limited edition box set which will include every official live and studio album to date plus 13 unreleased discs. This is the most extensive release of previously unreleased music the band have made from their vast archives – a real treat for fans. Restored and mixed by Tom Allom at La Cucina W8 and mastered by Alex Wharton at Abbey Road Studios.  This special release will be out on 15th October 2021 via Sony Music.

This special box set comes as the band finally get the opportunity to celebrate their 50th anniversary with a headline slot at Bloodstock Festival in the UK plus the launch of a US tour this Autumn The 50 Heavy Metal Years Tour is fueled by the highest charting album of Priest’s career ‘Firepower’ which peaked at #5 on the Billboard 200 and #5 in the UK.

Judas Priest originally formed in 1970 in Birmingham, England (an area that many feel birthed heavy metal). The original nucleus of musicians would go on to change the face of heavy metal. Throughout the 70’s Priest were responsible for helping trail blaze metal with such classic offerings as ‘Sad Wings of Destiny’ (1976) ‘Sin After Sin’ (1977) and ‘Hell Bent for Leather’ (1978) as well as one of the genre’s top live recordings ‘Unleashed in the East’ (1979) among others.

It was during the 80’s that Priest conquered the world becoming a global arena headliner on the strength of such all-time classics as ‘British Steel’ (1980) and ‘Screaming for Vengeance’ (1982) as well as being one of the first metal bands to be embraced by the then-burgeoning MTV plus performing at some of the decades biggest concerts (1980’s Monsters of Rock, 1983’s US Festival and 1985’s Live Aid) and being the first to exclusively wear leather and studs – a look that began during this era and would eventually be embraced by metal heads throughout the world. Priest’s success continued throughout the 90’s and beyond with the addition of drummer Scott Travis as evidenced by such additional stellar offerings as ‘Painkiller’ (1990) ‘Angel of Retribution’ (2005) and ‘A Touch of Evil: Live’ (2009) the latter of which saw Priest win a Grammy Award for a killer rendition of the classic ‘Dissident Aggressor’

In 2011 new guitarist Richie Faulkner came in to replace KK Downing who had left in 2010 – the move seemed to have reinvigorated the band as evidenced by a show-stealing performance on the ‘American Idol’ Finale that also served as Faulkner’s debut performance with the band (also in 2011 was the release of a new compilation ‘The Chosen Few’ which included Priest classics selected by some of metal’s biggest names) and the ‘Epitaph’ concert DVD in 2013.

Priest’s next studio effort would arrive in 2014 – ‘Redeemer of Souls’ which was supported by another strong tour. In 2017 (and again in 2019) Judas Priest received a nomination for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and got ready to unleash their latest studio album ‘Firepower’ (produced by Andy Sneap and Tom Allom) which received global success and critical acclaim. In 2020 a fully official and authorized photographic book ‘Judas Priest: 50 Heavy Metal Years’ was issued.

A Reflections Edition of the box set will also be available to purchase in CD and 2LP formats.

Bob Dylan To Release “Springtime In New York: The Bootleg Series Vol. 16 (1980-1985)” On September 17

0

olumbia Records and Legacy Recordings, the catalog division of Sony Music Entertainment, will release Bob Dylan – Springtime In New York: The Bootleg Series Vol. 16 (1980-1985) on Friday, September 17.

The latest chapter in Columbia/Legacy’s highly acclaimed Bob Dylan Bootleg Series revisits an often-forgotten, rich vein in Dylan’s vast and complex catalog, shining fresh light on the provocative new musical directions Dylan was taking as a songwriter and a recording artist from 1980 through 1985. In the early 1980s, while the music industry was grappling with the arrival of new trends and technology, from MTV to compact discs to digital recording, Bob Dylan was writing and recording new songs for a new decade, creating an essential new chapter in his studio catalog. Bob Dylan – Springtime In New York (1980-1985) celebrates the rich creative period surrounding Dylan’s albums Shot Of Love, Infidels, and Empire Burlesque with previously unreleased outtakes, alternate takes, rehearsal recordings, live performances and more.

The deluxe 5CD edition of the album presents 57 rare Bob Dylan recordings, 54 of them previously unreleased in any format, from 1980-1985. The previously released cuts include two Shot Of Love outtakes: “Let It Be Me” (first released as B-side to “Heart of Mine” International 7″ single) and “Don’t Ever Take Yourself Away” (first released on Hawaii Five-O: Original Songs from the Television Series). A third previously released recording, “Death Is Not The End” (an Infidels outtake featuring Full Force) first appeared in an edited version on Down In The Groove and may now be heard for the first time in full on Bob Dylan – Springtime In New York (1980-1985).

Bob Dylan – Springtime In New York: The Bootleg Series Vol. 16 (1980-1985) is available in a deluxe 5CD boxset (with book, memorabilia, photos and more) as well as 2CD and 2LP 12″ vinyl highlight packages. Available for pre-order: HERE

Third Man Records will release a 4LP version of Bob Dylan – Springtime In New York: The Bootleg Series Vol. 16 (1980-1985) as part of their Vault Series.

Disc One of Bob Dylan – Springtime In New York: The Bootleg Series Vol. 16 (1980-1985) was recorded in 1980 and 1981 and finds Dylan rehearsing a variety of his own catalog compositions (“Señor (Tales of Yankee Power),” “To Ramona”), rearranging some traditional folk tunes (“Jesus Met the Woman at the Well,” “Mary of the Wild Moor”) and revving up a selection of surprising covers (“Mystery Train” featuring Ringo Starr, “Sweet Caroline,” “Fever,” “Abraham, Martin and John”) with a group of musicians including Fred Tackett (guitar), David Mansfield (mandolin), Willie Smith (keyboards), Tim Drummond (bass), Jim Keltner (drums) and background vocals by Clydie King, Carolyn Dennis, Gwen Evans, and Regina McCrary.

Disc Two of Bob Dylan – Springtime In New York (1980-1985) is devoted to outtakes and alternate takes of recordings produced by Chuck Plotkin for Shot of Love, while Discs Three and Four are centered on the material Dylan wrote for Infidels, performed by the all-star band assembled for the album which featured Mark Knopfler (guitar), Mick Taylor (guitar), Alan Clark (keyboards), Robbie Shakespeare (bass) and Sly Dunbar (drums). The Infidels sessions, produced by Bob Dylan and Mark Knopfler, include previously unreleased versions of “Blind Willie McTell” and “Jokerman.”

Disc Five of the album includes live tracks (“Enough Is Enough” from Slane Castle, Ireland, and “License to Kill” from Late Night with David Letterman, March 22, 1984) alongside alternate takes and outtakes from the Empire Burlesque sessions, produced by Bob Dylan, including premieres of new songs (“Straight A’s in Love” and “New Danville Girl,” an early draft of “Brownsville Girl”) and a previously unreleased performance of the canonical “Dark Eyes.”

According to the Producer’s Note in the album: “The alternate takes selected for this set are different than the ones released on previous volumes of The Bootleg Series. They are included here to illustrate the musical journey Bob Dylan undertook during these years.”

In his liner notes for Bob Dylan – Springtime In New York, Damien Love writes, “And that’s the real story of this gloriously untrammeled collection. The songs. The songs stripped free of trappings, tampering, passing tastes, and judgments. The songs broken down to the sound of people really doing this, right now, acting on instinct. The songs rough and rowdy, bruised and tender, joking and crying, nagging and striving and yearning. The songs were always there, and here they are still, keeping pace with us.”

What about the Forex Broker Services and Features

0

For all investors who wish to engage in currency trading or who already trade, it is always a good idea to seek the services of a regulated Forex broker. However, not all brokers are regulated by the same rules and regulations. While some brokers will offer you all the services that you need to understand the market, there are others who would only render regulated services to those investors who they personally supervise and manage. In order to choose a Forex broker that will best meet your investment goals, the following are the reasons why you should only deal with regulated brokers:

One of the many reasons why investing in regulated forex brokers is advised is because of the extreme leverage they provide. Because of the large amount of investment capital each individual and organization have access to, leverage can play a very big role in the successful trading of currency. Most investors fail to remember that leverage is the key to earning huge profits in any investment venture. But while they may succeed in earning high profits, they also run the risk of incurring very high losses, which may even bring them financial and/or personal losses.

Another reason why investors should go for best forex brokers is because of the fees they charge their clients. Because of the extreme leverage provided by these brokers, traders are often required to pay extremely high transaction fees to use their service. In some cases, these fees could reach hundreds of dollars per trade. For traders who only wish to open a few accounts, this may not be a problem, but for those who wish to start an extensive trading business or those who already have several accounts, these fees could become quite expensive.

Many traders find it easier to do their transactions using a web-based interface instead of a computer. Some brokers, however, still require traders to use a physical platform in order to execute their trades. If you decide to go with a web-based regulated broker, make sure that it offers this as an option. Otherwise, you may have to spend time getting your account set up on a physical platform.

It is also important to note that if a regulated broker advertises himself as a member of the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FII) or the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). This simply means that the broker has passed the certification round. In order to become a member, brokers need to pass the exams conducted by the FII or by the SEC. Once the broker passes these tests, he can then claim membership in either body.

Regulated Forex brokers cannot solicit the investment money from clients. However, regulated brokers are allowed to provide advice on various financial products. They also can open new accounts and provide general information on various products such as indexes and indices. In order to obtain their license, brokers should have completed training courses on money management and be accredited by the FINFA.

The forex broker maintains a large number of financial transactions in a variety of different locations. These include several banks that act as financial intermediaries for the larger investment banks. These banks allow companies like yours the opportunity to trade in a bid to make you a profit. In order to do this, they have to be able to access the various currencies being traded on the forex exchange itself. This is known as the interbank system.

The interbank system was created to keep currencies from flowing freely to one another. Foreign banks were forced to compete with one another in order to win your business and keep you as a client. This competitive environment made for a level playing field, which meant that new entrants could make some money relatively quickly. Newer brokers can gain access to the trading information directly from these banks without having to rely on middlemen such as your brokerage firm or even individual traders.

The advantage of using a forex broker to trade in the foreign exchange market is that you’ll have direct access to the live market. This means that all of your trades are handled in real time. Best of all, you won’t need to use any software to monitor your transactions or to keep track of when they’re happening. You’ll just need to be sitting in front of your computer and clicking on trades as they happen. Some retail forex broker providers offer a wide variety of different trading platforms, allowing you to customize your trading experience exactly the way that works best for you.

Many retail forex brokers also offer a huge number of different options for investors. Many foreign exchange traders can use automatic forex trading systems that automatically enter and exit trades on their behalf. They can also provide many different risk/reward profiles, allowing investors to adjust their risk level parameters as necessary in order to maximize their profits and minimize their losses. While some investors stick to the same software platform as their larger clients, there’s no reason that smaller investors couldn’t take advantage of some of the features available on the leading platforms.

If you’ve been looking to start investing in the foreign currency exchange market but don’t know where to begin, you should definitely consider using the services of a forex broker. These individuals and firms offer you the opportunity to access the largest currency exchange network in the world. With so much riding on your decision to invest, it’s important that you take the time to carefully research the different platforms and brokers available. Make sure to find a broker that offers custom-trading features such as human intelligence, stop-loss parameters, and news feeds. By taking all of these factors into consideration, you’ll be able to find a forex broker that is right for you.

There Are No “Lonely Days” with Folk-Pop Artist ADRIENNE NYE’s New Single

0

Canadian folk-pop and roots artist Adrienne Nye is prepared to transfix even the loneliest listener with her pulsing new harmony-driven song, “Lonely Days” — available now.

A song steeped in utter truths, hinging on pleading, and questioning, and ultimately surrendering to reality, the Montreal-born, Vancouver-based singer/songwriter strikes a chord both on her stunning acoustic, and straight through the heart of any lover lost to love.

This indie songstress has a voice as rich as mahogany and a sensibility in songwriting that flows eagerly between traditional roots, with a nod of country folk, for good measure. Seizing listeners with her enchanting intros that rush like a freight-train as the song churns along the track, Nye dares you to join her on the journey — regardless of where it goes.

“This song was written as an anthem to all binational couples separated by border closures,” Nye explains of “Lonely Days.” “Being separated for a long time from someone you love can be gut wrenching and heartbreaking. It impacts everything from our mental health to our support network to our general sense of wellbeing. It leaves us longing for connection and feeling the deep sting of isolation and separation. My heart goes out to everyone trying to get to someone they love and just can’t. It is my hope that this song brings us together to relate to each other’s struggles and find strength in our collective pandemic stories of love, loss and uncertainty.

“Together or apart, love is essential.”

The multi-instrumentalist has had an incredible tenure in music, having started singing at the tender age of four, and booking her first professional on stage show at age nine. Cultivating a passion for music and composing, the young Nye grew up honing her craft in her high school productions, her specialized arts and training programs, and eating up every opportunity placed on her path – including composing a full length Missa Brevis in three-part harmony for her choir when she was 14. “It was performed at Place des Arts in Montreal and broadcast live on Radio-Canada,” Nye says. In addition to performing acoustic, the musician is also taking up mandolin and turning her attention to Nimbus School of Recording and Media where she’ll be studying music production, recording and business.

Among her ranking influences, Nye reveals Brandi Carlile and Joy Williams at the heart of her musical soul, “although I listen to everything from bluegrass to Americana to Pop these days,” she adds. It was in 2017, she formed Fallow State with Christopher D. Olson, a former classmate at Rogues West (British Columbia), and their music became known around the Vancouver music scene as a rich tapestry of clever song writing, refined musicality and shape shifting harmonies. Their debut EP was released in 2017, with a subsequent sophomore offering in 2020. With accolades and fans to their credit, the duo spent two years in a row performing at West Vancouver’s coveted Harmony Arts Festival.

“Lonely Days” marks Nye’s first solo single in more than a decade. Enlisting a host of talented collaborators to see the track through, including JP Maurice as session musician, producer, and even backing vocals. As Nye says, he brought “everything to the table.”

“JP Maurice is a dream to work with,” Nye reveals. “From backing vocals, to piano, guitar, bass, synth, organ, drums, and I probably forgot some other things in there too… He threw everything at the wall, and then some, and we got to select the best of what we had.

“It was so much fun to try different things and see what felt right. It’s amazing to find someone who hears music the way you do but also throws some creative curve balls into the mix that you might not have considered. I learned so much from him and from my time with him in the studio.”

Part of what makes the concoction of “Lonely Days” so spectacular is the attention to detail you can pluck from each layer of the song, including the pulsating “porch stomp” that can be felt like a metronome throughout the piece. “After tracking the acoustic guitar first, we decided to add a ‘porch stomp’ which was meant to serve as a sort of marching heartbeat throughout the song,” Nye goes on to explain. “JP ran a mic under a ramp in the courtyard of the studio and literally stomped on it. I couldn’t stop laughing as we went back and forth trying to decide whose shoes made a better thumping sound.

“His won.”

What became of the song is a love-letter to musical prowess and captivating penmanship. “Lonely Days” makes no bones about telling the truth, standing behind it, feeling it through its rawness and agility to break under the weight of loss and wondering how to fit the pieces back together. Adrienne Nye is no stranger to letting the realness of her world shine brightly on even the darkest tales, but her sense of longing has the listener relating, and rooting for a happy ending.

“Lonely Days” is available now.
