0

Complementing the documentary release detailing The Beatles and their culturally groundbreaking time in India, Songs Inspired By The Film The Beatles And India is available now.

The album features Beatles’ songs written during their stay in Rishikesh, India — including “Mother Nature’s Son,” “Revolution,” “Sexy Sadie,” “Dear Prudence,” “Child of Nature” — as well as songs from their incredible catalogue coloured by their earlier leanings to the magical sounds of India. The two-disc set also includes an all-original score written by award-winning composer Benji Merrison.

Featuring a diverse cast of Indian artists showcasing their own musical styles — including Vishal Dadlani, Kiss Nuka, Benny Dayal, Dhruv Ghanekar, Karsh Kale, Nikhil D’Souza, Anoushka Shankar, Farhan Ahktar, Soulmate, and many others — Songs Inspired By The Film The Beatles And India also brings contemporary and classical Indian influences and techniques to the record.

The hypnotic, lyrical soundtrack for The Beatles and India was written by award-winning composer Benji Merrison and recorded at Abbey Road Studio 2, the legendary home of The Beatles recording sessions, Budapest, Hungary and Pune, India. Both a classically trained composer and a skilled music producer and engineer, Benji has scored music for projects across film, television, installations and events. His distinctive musical voice is in high demand and he is known for SAS: Red Notice, Forces of Nature with Brian Cox, Dynasties, General Magic.

The award-winning film The Beatles And India is a unique historical chronicle of the enduring love affair between The Beatles and India that started more than half a century ago. Rare archival footage, recordings and photographs, eye-witness accounts and expert comments along with location shoots across India bring alive the fascinating journey of George, John, Paul and Ringo from their high octane celebrity lives in the West to a remote Himalayan ashram in search of spiritual bliss that inspires an unprecedented burst of creative songwriting. It is the first serious exploration of how India shaped the development of the greatest ever rock band and their own pioneering role bridging two vastly different cultures. The Beatles And India was directed by Ajoy Bose and co-directed by Peter Compton. The film was produced by Reynold D’Silva (Renoir Pictures / Silva Screen Productions) with executive producers Adam Greenup and Keith Ferreira. The documentary won Best Film Audience Choice and Best Music at the 2021 UK Asian Film Festival.

The Eagles performed three initial “Hotel California” concerts in 2019 in Las Vegas to rave reviews and critical acclaim. To date, the band has performed more than 30 concerts across 15 U.S. cities.

Hotel California is the third best-selling U.S. album in history, certified 26-times Platinum by the RIAA. After its release in 1976, it topped the charts and won two GRAMMY Awards for “New Kid in Town” and “Hotel California.” Several of the songs from the album have never been performed since the original “Hotel California” tour. The band’s Their Greatest Hits 1971-1977 is the best-selling U.S. album in history, with the RIAA certifying the collection at 38-times Platinum.

In today’s faddish, fractured, rock landscape, the Eagles retain an appeal that transcends both generation and genre, cementing the band’s role as enduring musical icons. They have won six GRAMMY Awards, were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, in their first year of eligibility, and received the Kennedy Center Honors in 2016.

Drummer, Producer & Beat Scientist Makaya McCraven’s New Blue Note Remix Album ‘Deciphering The Message’ Out Now

0

Makaya McCraven has released Deciphering The Message, a vibrant new remix project for which the Chicago-based drummer, producer, and beat scientist dug through the Blue Note Records vaults to put a modern bounce on classics by Art Blakey, Horace Silver, and Hank Mobley, among others. The album also connects past to present by featuring new contributions from a stellar cast of modern jazz artists including vibraphonist Joel Ross, trumpeter Marquis Hill, guitarists Jeff Parker and Matt Gold, bassist Junius Paul, alto saxophonist Greg Ward, and De’Sean Jones on tenor saxophone and flute. Deciphering The Message is available now on vinyl, CD, and digital formats.

Across numerous albums and mixtapes, McCraven has proven his mastery of the loop akin to hip-hop’s most celebrated beatmakers like J Dilla and Madlib, both of whom also found inspiration in the Blue Note catalog. With acclaimed releases like In The Moment (2015) and Universal Beings (2018), McCraven created his own lane in jazz by sampling his band playing improvised sessions throughout the world, then molding the audio several times to pull contrasting moods from it. For his previous project McCraven remixed Gil Scott-Heron’s final album I’m New Here into the equally emotive LP We’re New Again (2020).

While Deciphering The Message collects songs from several years of Blue Note history, it plays like a continuous set taking place in one show at one venue. “When piecing everything together, I wanted to create a narrative that made the listener feel like they were falling into this space or a movement,” Makaya says. “I always want to make music that will connect with people in one way, where it makes them nod or feel something or transport them somewhere. I also hope this makes them check out the source of this music. The music that we’re making now is part of the same route and is connected, so I want to honor tradition and release something that people can vibe to.”

Oliver Malcolm Releases New Song “Rolling Stone” Ahead Of Upcoming U.K. Live Shows

0

Writer, producer and artist Oliver Malcolm, has released a brand new song, “Rolling Stone.” The track has all the markers of a standout Oliver Malcolm track; a clashing combination of live instrumentation (in the form of electric guitar) alongside 808s and electronic production informs the song’s irresistibility. This is Malcolm’s first new song since the release of his debut EP, Are You Living in The Real World? which features critically acclaimed tracks like “Switched Up”, “Skywalker”, “Helen” and more.

Oliver Malcolm got his start early, teaching himself how to spin records at 12 years old. Shortly after, he downloaded Logic and taught himself how to produce – working with IDK, Aluna George, Joey Bada$$, Jay Rock, Masego, Tinashe and more. Now twenty, Oliver has developed his own voice. Touching everything from the production, vocals, songwriting, engineering, mixing and mastering, Oliver’s sound is unique and does not fit the mold of one genre. Quick to be praised by the likes of New York Times, TIME Magazine, Pigeons & Planes, Interview Magazine, CLASH, NME and more, Oliver Malcolm is priming his trajectory to be a long and critical one. A multidisciplinary at heart, this is just the beginning of what music lovers can look forward to from the new artist.

Sweden’s In Flames Vocalist And Songwriter Anders Fridén Launches New Project If Anything, Suspicious

0

Today, Anders Fridén, frontman of legendary Swedish melodic death metal band In Flames, launches his new project under the moniker If Anything, Suspicious. He also announces a new album under the project, OFFAIR: Lullabies for the Damned, Dec 3rd 2021. The launch comes alongside two calming and serene tracks “Farewell” and “Nodes of Yesod”. OFFAIR: Lullabies for the Damned is the second album released by OFFAIR Records, a new label centering on mood music and intentional listening experiences created by noteworthy artists exploring instrumental and experimental sounds outside of their typical genre.

The graceful, glitchy piano-led melancholy of “Farewell” and haunting “Nodes Of Yesod” hold a mirror up to the beautiful yet strange and often times terrible world, OFFAIR: Lullabies for the Damned is an expression of the pure joy of creation. It’s a passion project that explores Fridén’s love of making electronic music, and captures the sentiment of rebirth – because this was like nothing he’d ever done before – he was doing so for the very first time again.

Fridén says on the new project, “Dive into the unknown and dare to challenge yourself… I’ve been playing metal music for more than 30 years, always judged by previous trials and errors, loved and hated for my choices. But this is a first, a time that will never come again. Something new, something different. I want you to close your eyes, breathe and let the sounds take you on a journey. A journey without borders or restrictions.”

OFFAIR Records is a joint venture between Universal Music Canada (UMC) and Versus Creative globally distributed by UMC and Virgin Music Label + Artist Services. With a community of established artists exploring beyond their familiar sonic territories, OFFAIR’s series of releases will bring instrumental and experimental soundtracks to listener-specific environments, mental spaces and shared universal moments. The mission of OFFAIR co-founders Rishi Shah and Nate Auerbach is to create deeper experiences with music. OFFAIR is building a brand, community, and distribution system together with their partners at UMC and Virgin Music to drive intentional listening, supported by special events, partnerships and more. The label’s first signing was Highland Park Sleep Collective, a duo formed by producers Tim Anderson and Filip Nikolic (formerly of Poolside) whose production credits include Billie Eilish, Pabllo Vittar and King Princess. They put their own twist on the ambient genre with their album OFFAIR: Music For Water, released in August.

Lili-Ann De Francesco Signs With Maison Barclay Canada And Shares Moving Cover Of Patrick Watson’s “The Great Escape”

0

Today not only marks the beginning of Sagittarius season but also artist Lili-Ann De Francesco’s birthday. It is only fitting that the artist re-introduces herself today with the release of, “The Great Escape,” via Maison Barclay Canada, Universal Music Canada’s Quebec focused label imprint. The poignant cover of Patrick Watson’s song marks De Francesco’s debut with the record label and serves as the perfect re-introduction to the Montreal-based singer-songwriter, encapsulating her heartfelt artistry and emotional depth.

About the release De Francesco commented, “The song “The Great Escape” really inspired me from an early age, it got me through some tough times. I wanted to share it with a new generation in hopes that it could serve as a comfort to them, like it did for me. Patrick Watson’s original version of the song is fifteen years old and it’s still as poignant and beautiful as ever.”

In the captivating performance visuals also shared today, De Francesco is bathed in blue and green light as she plays the piano – an instrument she’s been playing since she was just five years old. Throughout the performance she’s stripped back and true, two qualities central to her purpose. “I want to do what I like, and I want the people who work with me to support my decisions and support my choices,” she says. “I want to be true in my music, as well — I want to talk about real stuff.”

Coming into her own in the Instagram-turned-TikTok world, De Francesco is not someone who takes her goals as an artist lightly. Most important among them? Choosing herself, as well as staying grounded and relatable. “I want to show to the people that I can be vulnerable, but also I can be fun — it’s not really ‘artist’ and ‘person.’ It’s one.”

Stay tuned for more from the artist as she prepares to release brand new material in the new year.
