Annie Lennox Partners With Greenpeace To Release Dido’s Lament Virtual Choral Performance

0

Today one of the most successful, iconic and revered artists in pop music history, Annie Lennox releases a virtual choral performance of “Dido’s Lament” with London City Voices choir.

Annie Lennox has collaborated with London City Voices choir to bring together a unique performance of her arrangement of Purcell’s “Dido’s Lament”, taken from the 10th Anniversary Edition of A Christmas Cornucopia released via Island Records.

The collaboration is in partnership with Greenpeace, who Annie has supported over numerous campaigns as an Ambassador, while Eurythmics supported Greenpeace and Amnesty for their Peace tour in 1999. Viewers of the video will be invited to donate to Greenpeace with this link.

Says Lennox: “It’s been such an honour and privilege to have been able to create this unique event in collaboration with the London City Voices Choir during this unprecedented time of the 2020 Covid 19 pandemic. I’m deeply touched and grateful to my friend and co producer Mike Stevens and choirmaster Richard Swan for making this possible. Also, to each choir member who took part from their homes through the medium of ‘Zoom’. As a long term supporter of Greenpeace I am deeply concerned by the Global Climate Crisis, which I feel is the most urgent challenge we all have to face, particularly with regard to sustainability for future generations. I very much hope to be able to make a contribution by drawing attention towards this vital issue. Additionally, I feel a tremendous sense of empathy and concern for everyone who has lost a dearly beloved friend or family member this year and hope this recording can offer a moment of shared collective mourning for those whose lives have been taken.”

London City Voices is a non-audition community choir made up of three branches across the capital who normally come together twice a year to perform in a 400+ person choir concert. If it wasn’t for the pandemic, the choir would have just performed at their Christmas concert. Each of the 276 members of the choir involved in this choral performance of “Dido’s Lament” video have learnt, prepared and recorded their parts from each of their homes during lockdown, overseen by founder and director Richard Swan.

“Dido’s Lament” is a classical aria written by Henry Purcell in the 17th century referencing the tragic love story of Dido and Aeneas as documented in Virgil’s legendary epic poem, The Aeneid, from the 1st century BC. Annie’s recording of “Dido’s Lament” is a unique arrangement of the classical piece, arranged by herself and co producer Mike Stevens.

Premiered by Jo Whiley on BBC Radio 2, “Dido’s Lament”, has also received radio support from Magic FM and Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1. Annie Lennox has appeared on the BBC’s The One Show and Russell Brand’s podcast Under The Skin over the past week, and is due to appear on Scotland’s Makar to Makar on 17th December and the BBC’s Andrew Marr Show on 20th December.

“Dido’s Lament” was released with an accompanying music video depicting a Victorian magic lantern show which starts with the wonders of the natural world, but soon becomes a stark warning of the future and an elegiac lament to the death of the Earth. As part of Annie Lennox’s collaboration with Greenpeace you can now also view this original music video for “Dido’s Lament” on Greenpeace’s Instagram and Facebook pages.

“Dido’s Lament” is the closing track on the digitally remastered version of Annie’s sixth solo album, A Christmas Cornucopia which features a new track listing and new artwork (across all formats – vinyl, CD and digital).

The music on A Christmas Cornucopia was mostly played by Lennox, in collaboration with co producer Mike Stevens, and originally recorded in his southwest London studio – at the bottom of his garden in 2010. But to achieve the resonance and vibrancy that were integral to Lennox’s ideas for these re-energized reboots, the pair also worked with a 30-piece orchestra at Pinewood Studios. And they travelled further afield too: to South Africa, to record with the African Children’s Choir, a remarkable organization with which impassioned campaigner and activist Lennox has long had a relationship.

A Christmas Cornucopia is far from a saccharine packaged selection box. As befits its title, it offers an abundant track listing drawn from British, French and German traditions covering the well-known alongside more untrodden ground. It’s broad spectrum encompasses a wide range of narratives and emotions – from joyful and celebratory thorough melancholic and haunting to poignant and timely. On “Lullay Lullay”, for example, Lennox draws direct links between the Nativity and the plight of Africa’s child soldiers.

Vibrant but vintage, classic and contemporary, glorious but with a polemical edge, Annie Lennox’s A Christmas Cornucopia is no ordinary collection of seasonal songs.

As Scala Radio focuses its January output on Be Healthy, Be Happy, it today announces that it will welcome British artist Midge Ure to the station from 4th January, where he will be curating popular evening programme, The Space.

Midge really needs very little introduction. You can expect to hear calming music from fellow pop and rock counterparts including Brian Eno, Sigur Ros, Air, Peter Gabriel and Jonny Greenwood alongside classical favourites by the likes of Grieg and Debussy.

Speaking about the new show, Midge said “I think like me, many people are probably quite guilty of spending far too much time looking at screens in 2020 when we’ve been limited of other forms of real-life entertainment or contact. It will be the perfect opportunity to relax and unwind from the computer, tablet and mobile phone. I hope as January draws in, you’ll join me in taking a break from the noise in the evenings and just sit back and allow yourself to be carried away by some gorgeous music.”

Scala Radio Music & Content director, Ric Blaxill added “We break the mould of classical music at Scala Radio, always bringing something new or unexpected to our listeners. Midge’s music has transcended both genres and generations, and we’re incredibly pleased to welcome him next month to guest host this series.”

Paul Weller live in concert with the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Jules Buckley at the Barbican

0

The BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Barbican are excited to announce that the orchestra and its Creative Artist in Association Jules Buckley will be joined by legendary singer songwriter Paul Weller for a concert, reimagining Weller’s work in stunning orchestral settings.

In Weller’s first live performance for two years, songs spanning the broad spectrum of his career from The Jam to as yet unheard new material will delight fans and newcomers alike. Classic songs including You Do Something To Me, English Rose and Wild Wood, along with tracks from Weller’s latest number 1 album On Sunset, will be heard as never before in brand new orchestral arrangements by Buckley.

Weller, who takes cultural authenticity to the top of the charts, reunites with Steve Cradock for this one-off performance. Part of the acclaimed Live From The Barbican series which returns to the Centre in the spring, the concert will have a reduced live audience in the Barbican Hall, and it will also be available to watch via a live stream on the Barbican website

Whilst the concert will reflect on some of Weller’s back catalogue, as is typical of his constantly evolving career, it will look to the future with performances of songs from an album not released until May 2021, as well as welcoming guest artists to illustrate his work and the music that influenced him. These special guests will be announced in the New Year alongside broadcast plans across the BBC which will include BBC Radio 2, Radio 3, 6 Music, BBC Sounds, BBC TV and BBC iPlayer.

This exciting collaboration is the latest in a series of innovative concerts from the BBC Symphony Orchestra and Jules Buckley featuring non-classical artists which included a sell-out performance at the Barbican, with Lianne La Havas in February 2020.

Paul Weller says: “After what will be around two years without being on tour, to start 2021 with a show put together by Jules and the BBC Symphony Orchestra will be a really special moment for me.”

A Comprehensive Guide to Invisalign

0

Invisalign has become the go-to procedure in recent times when it comes to perfecting your smile. As the orthodontic industry has progressed considerably over the years, Invisalign has been introduced as an alternative to traditional braces. As the name suggests, Invisalign consists of invisible aligners. They are made using a thin sheet of acrylics that is not easily visible to the naked eye. Contrary to what you might be misled into believing, Invisalign is extremely effective.

How Does Invisalign Work?

The Invisalign process includes the use of removable aligners. These aligners are invisible and provide amazing convenience. You do not need to worry about any pain as the process is virtually pain-free. However, you should keep in mind that you would experience some inconvenience initially. As you consistently wear Invisalign, your teeth would be straightened and aligned. Thus, your smile would be restored.

A flexible acrylic-based plastic is used to create the aligners that are customized at each stage to achieve the desired look. The acrylic is gluten, latex, BPS, and BPA free. The FDA has approved Invisalign. A great thing about Invisalign is that you get to discuss your preference with the dentist.

Digital Mapping

To create the aligners, digital mapping is done. The process involves the application and curation of aligners. Through digital mapping, an in-depth study of your teeth would be done. It would be customized just for you. The orthodontic sites within the mouth will be studied by the dentist to tailor the Invisalign.

Once digital mapping has been completed, a fully customized Invisalign would be produced for the prescribed time. As Invisalign aligners are difficult to distinguish with our naked eye, nobody would be able to notice that you are wearing them unlike metal braces which are easily visible. Moreover, you can simply take off the aligners to clean your teeth, drink, and eat. Thus, Invisalign is the best option amongst kids and teens that are worried about getting bullied.

Treatment Process

The treatment begins during the initial appointment where you would meet with the dentist for a consultation. The dentist would map out your teeth using 3D technology. Some x-rays would also be run to get a better idea of your teeth. It is followed by taking an impression of your teeth. This enables your dentist to easily map the Invisalign and customize the aligners as per your requirements. After the process is done, the dentist will contact you for a fitting. The aligners will be changed regularly.

How Long Does The Invisalign Process Last?

After the digital mapping is done, you will need to wear the aligners for about 12 to 18 months. The procedure varies from individual to individual. The aligners have to be worn for 20 to 22 hours every day. You can take them off to eat, drink, brush, and floss. As your teeth get aligned, you would not need to wear aligners any longer.

Benefits of Invisalign

Ever since Invisalign was first introduced, it has taken the world by a storm. According to the website of this expert New York Invisalign dentist, Invisalign can correct problems like spacing between teeth, overcrowding, crossbite, overbite, underbite and crooked teeth. There are many advantages of Invisalign as mentioned below.

  1. Less Consultation and Easier to Map

One of the best things about Invisalign is that it requires less consultation and is a lot easier to map. It requires minimum office visits. This makes it the perfect option for those of you that do not have the time to visit the dentist as often. Furthermore, the aligners would be completely tailored to your needs.

  1. Comfort

Another reason why Invisalign is amazing is because it provides outstanding comfort. The aligners are very comfortable to wear unlike metal braces. This means that you should have no problem wearing the aligners for 20 to 22 hours every day. Besides, there would be fewer chances of your mouth getting injured.

  1. Easy to Wear and Remove

Invisalign is designed for ease of use and removal. You should have no trouble wearing the aligners and taking them off. Thus, you can take off the aligners to drink, eat, floss, and brush.

  1. Completely Invisible

An obvious benefit of Invisalign aligners is that they are not visible to the naked eye. This makes it the ideal option for you if you are worried about anyone making fun of you.

Conclusion

Invisalign has revolutionized the way teeth are aligned. The aligners provide better wear ability, versatility, and comfort. They are a lot easier to wear and use as compared to metal braces. Hence, you should schedule an appointment with a dentist to achieve that perfect smile.

SiriusXM Reveals ‘Future Five for 2021’ and Welcomes ‘The Class of 2020’ in Music

0

The music discovery and curation team at SiriusXM announced today its “Future Five” artists for 2021 and the “Class of 2020” during this unique and unparalleled year in music.

“In this year of dramatic change and challenges, SiriusXM has remained committed to being the premier music discovery platform for artists and listeners alike,” said Steve Blatter, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Music Programming, SiriusXM. “Our listeners depend on us to consistently introduce them to music from new and developing artists across all genres, and once again our team delivered.  We are proud to present our ‘Class of 2020’ and the ‘Future Five of 2021.'”

The ‘Future Five for 2021’ consists of five new artists that SiriusXM predicts will break through in 2021. Year after year SiriusXM’s Future Five picks have proven to be successful and are often, if not always, artists that SiriusXM is first to champion.  Future Five selections for 2020 included major breakthrough success stories from Doja Cat, Gabby Barrett, and Roddy Rich.

SiriusXM’s ‘Future Five for 2021’:

Don Toliver
Drew Parker
Fousheé
Royal & The Serpent

Don Toliver: The Houston rapper’s now Gold-certified hit “After Party” was first played on SiriusXM’s Hip Hop Nation on May 1, 2020, in which the channel continues to lead the nation on plays to date.   As an early champion, Hip Hop Nation remains one of the leaders on the song, which peaked at No. 10 on Billboard’s Top 100 and No. 6 on Forbes’ ‘Biggest songs of the Week’ list. Hip Hop Nation continues to support Toliver as a featured artist on Internet Money’s “Lemonade.”

Drew Parker:  Selected as a prestigious “Highway Find,” the highly sought-after spotlight platform on SiriusXM’s Highway channel, Parker’s “While You’re Gone” was first played by the channel as an unsigned artist on October 5, 2020. Past “Highway Find” artists include Luke CombsSam HuntAshley McBrydeCarly PearceChase RiceCole Swindell, Dan + Shay, Florida Georgia Line, Maddie and Tae, and Maren Morris.

Fousheé:  SiriusXM’s The Heat became the first broadcast outlet to play “Deep End,” in October of 2020 and continues leads the nation in airplay.  Foushee’s music is currently being supported on several SiriusXM channels across multiple genres including SiriusXM Hits 1, Alt Nation, Chill, Heart & Soul and Coffee House.

Royal & The Serpent:   SiriusXM’s Alt Nation was the first outlet in the country to play “Overwhelmed” back in July of 2020 as part of the channel’s “Critical Cut” program. The artist was also a part of  SiriusXM’s Next Wave Virtual Concert Series last week.  “Overwhelmed” has now been streamed over 32 million times and is currently in the top 10 on the Alternative radio charts.

Zero 9:36:  The rapper, singer and musician’s aggressive style and angry world view helped him become a cult figure in the Philadelphia Hip-Hop community and rise to an alternative artist with a nationwide following by the age of 22.  Now at 25, his music reflects the combination of rap and singing as guitars and electronics take on a bigger place in his arrangements.  SiriusXM’s Octane was the first radio outlet to play “Adrenaline” as an Octane “Accelerator” on November 11, 2020, which has led to increased streaming numbers and still no other radio support.

The ‘Class of 2020’ is composed of artists that SiriusXM was first to commit airplay and playlist support and subsequently went on to have a major breakthrough year. SiriusXM’s commitment to these artists extends across multiple channels. This year’s class includes artists in the, pop, country, hip-hop, alternative, indie, and hard rock:

Alt Nation was the first broadcast outlet to play and add Ashe’s “Moral of The Story” at the top of 2020, within a week of its release, while SiriusXM Hits 1 followed the support as one of the first Top 40 radio channels to add the song, leading the nation in airplay. The song has since garnered over 170 million streams.

The SiriusXM Chill channel was the first broadcast outlet in the nation to play and commit airplay to Cannons’ “Fire For You” on May 12, 2020. That same month, Alt Nation became one of the first alternative radio outlets to feature the song on its new music show Advanced Placement. Both channels have led the nation in playing the record and the song has now entered the Top 10 on the Alternative radio chart.

Having supported indie-pop singer/songwriter Clairo since 2018, it’s no surprise SiriusXMU became the first broadcast outlet in the nation to play her song “Bags” from her debut full length album Immunity in 2019.  SiriusXMU’s support for Clairo’s song “Sofia” has led the nation in total airplay by more than double.  With over 93 million streams, the song just cracked the Top 20 on the Alternative chart.

SiriusXM’s BPM channel and Diplo’s Revolution were the first to support Joel Corry’s “Lonely” at the top of 2020. In July, both channels were again at the forefront in supporting Joel’s new music by playing  “Head & Heart” within 24 hours of the song’s release and have gone on to (along with SiriusXM’s Venus channel) lead the nation in support of the track, which has now accumulated over 64 million streams. The song went on to hold the No. 1 spot on BPM’s Top 20 Beats of The Week Countdown for eight  consecutive weeks. In August, all three channels again led the way in support of “Sorry” with Diplo’s Revolution being the first to play and continuing to lead the nation in support. All three songs have gone on to reach No. 1 on the Dance chart.

Country artist, Niko Moon has been supported by SiriusXM’s The Highway since 2019, when the channel became the first to play “Good Time” as a Highway Find.  To date, the channel leads the nation in total support  for the song, which has now garnered 125 million streams and is currently breaking into the Top 15 on the Country chart. The Highway’s support continued into 2020 by leading the nation on airplay for Moon’s songs “Paradise To Me,” and most recently “Dance With Me.”

After supporting NLE Choppa back in 2019 by playing “Camelot + Remix” more than double the amount of any other radio channel to date, SiriusXM’s Hip Hop Nation and The Heat became two of the first radio channels to play “Walk Em Down” f/ Roddy Rich earlier this year as well.  The song has gone on to reach the Top 10 on the Urban chart, while Hip Hop Nation also currently leads the nation in radio support for his latest single “Narrow Road” f/ Lil Baby.

In April of 2020, SiriusXMU world-debuted Phoebe Bridgers‘ song “Kyoto” prior to the drop of her now Grammy-nominated album, Punisher, which the channel also supported with an exclusive SiriusXMU Session. Additional support came from The Spectrum, Alt Nation and The Pulse over the summer of 2020. To date, Spectrum leads the nation in total airplay of “Kyoto,” and the song has now accumulated 13+ million on demand streams to date. Bridgers has since been nominated for four Grammy Awards in the categories of Best New Artist, Best Alternative Music Album and Best Rock Performance in 2021.

In February of 2020, Alt Nation became the first broadcast outlet to play “Deathbed” from Powfu, as part of the channel’s new music program, Advanced Placement. Soon after, the song was added to regular rotation on Alt Nation as a “Critical Cut.”  The record reached No. 2 on the Alternative chart in late June, landed in the top 10 on the Top 40 charts by August and has since accumulated over 360 million streams.

Alt Nation has supported Wallows since early 2018, and has continued that trend year after year, as the first radio outlet to support their song “Are You Bored Yet?” feat. Clairo  in March of 2019, which was prior to the release of their debut full length album Nothing Happens.  The song reached No. 2 on the Alternative chart in November of 2020 and has garnered 205 million streams to date.

Rounding out the ‘Class of 2020’ are the artists selected for SiriusXM’s ‘Future Five for 2020.’ All five artists had an undeniable breakthrough year in music.  Arizona Zervas first found early support of his now multi-platinum hit “Roxanne” on SiriusXM’s Hip Hop Nation, The Heat and Hits 1. The now Grammy Nominated singer/songwriter/rapper/producer, Doja Cat received her first national airplay for “Juicy” on SiriusXM’s Shade45, while The Heat, Venus and SiriusXM Hits 1 have all continued to support her music in 2020.  SiriusXM’s Octane was the first to play “Right Now” from rock-band Fire From the Gods, and their song went on to reach the Top 10 on the Active Rock charts.  For country artist Gabby Barrett, SiriusXM’s Highway was at the forefront of playing her breakthrough song “I Hope” when she was still an unsigned artist. The song went on to reach No. 1 on the Country chart, No. 4 on the Pop chart and has since accumulated over 525 million streams. Finally, Grammy Winner Roddy Rich was championed early by SiriusXM’s Hip Hop Nation, and continues to be supported by the channel as Rich heads into 2021 with eight Grammy Nominations and his breakthrough song “The Box” has garnered over 1.4 billion streams, the most of any song across all genres in 2020.

SiriusXM subscribers can listen to music from all these artists and more via SiriusXM radios on the SiriusXM app and at home with Amazon Alexa, the Google Assistant or however they stream in their house.  Streaming access is included for most subscribers.
