The Rolling Stones announce “The Rolling Stones – Steel Wheels Live”

0

The Rolling Stones announce details of their previously unreleased 1989 concert film Steel Wheels Live – Atlantic City, New Jersey. This latest release from the band’s archives via Eagle Rock Entertainment has been restored, remixed and remastered and will be available on multiple formats from September 25.

Additionally, a double A-sided 10” picture disc of “Rock and a Hard Place” (Live from Atlantic City) and “Almost Hear You Sigh” (Live from Tokyo Dome) will be released for Record Store Day’s second drop date of the year, on September 26. This format will be exclusive to independent record stores all over the world.

Their first tour hitting the US since 1981, Steel Wheels was famously one of their longest, and most ambitious, setlists. 2 ½ hours deep, The Rolling Stones not only played their hits, but dared to roll out several new songs from the then-newly released Steel Wheels album. Power-packed renditions of “Terrifying”, “Sad Sad Sad”, “Mixed Emotions”, “Rock and a Hard Place”, and “Can’t Be Seen” sizzle between “Jumping Jack Flash”, “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction”, “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”, and “Gimme Shelter”. This was a statement – The Rolling Stones revisiting their vast body of work while confidently showcasing where they were going and the broad spectrums of music they’ve explored over their career.

“I would hate to come out with something that’s not startling” Mick Jagger stated about the launch of the 1989/90 Steel Wheels Tour. The Rolling Stones delivered on that promise in this Atlantic City Convention Center tour stop in December ‘89.

A highlight of this particular tour stop was the band being joined by special guests: Guns N’ Roses’ Axl Rose and Izzy Stradlin accompany the Stones for the first-ever live performance of “Salt Of The Earth”, from their 1968 Beggars Banquet album. Eric Clapton brings his slow blues burn to “Little Red Rooster”, and joins the Stones in backing up one of their idols, blues legend John Lee Hooker, on “Boogie Chillen”.

All in all, Steel Wheels Live is a living testament to The Rolling Stones’ incomparable live shows.

Steel Wheels Live will be released as a special limited 6-disc version, which includes the Atlantic City performance on DVD, SD-Blu-ray, 2CD, a DVD of their Steel Wheels tour performance at the famed Tokyo Dome, as well as Steel Wheels Rare Reels, a CD featuring tracks which didn’t feature on the core tour setlist. Also available in limited 180gm 4LP coloured vinyl, 4LP black vinyl, DVD, SD Blu-ray, DVD + 2CD, SD Blu-ray + 2CD and digital formats.

Aylmer, ON’s Skate-Rockers MOORE AVE UNDERGROUND Release Punk-Pop Anthem “Beanies and Plaid Jackets”

0

“We added a pretty rad breakdown and some chanting to make it a fun, Canadian punk rock anthem,” says pop-punk skate-rockers Moore Ave Underground of their new single, “Beanies and Plaid Jackets” — available now.

Intriguing, yes.

But let’s back it up a bit.

First, let’s establish that Moore Ave Underground is made up of Josh, Joseph and Jack Gaudette and Shawn MacDonald.

Then, let’s parse its concept, which is fluid-Ish.

“Moore Ave Underground refers to our family home’s basement,” Josh says. “When I took up music, the basement was already filled with a foosball table, a hockey table, and a bar that no one ever used. We convinced my mom and dad to make some hard choices, and ended up bidding a fond farewell to it all in order to make room for instruments.”

“It became something special,” he continues. “Soon, friends, family and contributors started coming and going and creating. We have witnessed those who never believed their musical ability was possible grow into accomplished performers.

“Today, this is the goal: to provide a platform for talent, and encourage, inspire and see artists of any kinds and all ages realize their potential. For us, the motivation is to offer a window to the world that shows the talents and gifts we are blessed to see and be a part of every day.”

What that ultimately looks like is a lengthy series of single releases — including 2020’s “How You’ve Grown” and “What’s Done” — and a debut EP, 2019’s It’s All in my Head; this month brings us back to that Canadian pop-punk anthem of note, “Beanies and Plaid Jackets.”

“This is actually one of our older tunes,” Josh says. “It was a brainchild of an old band member that was sparked by a joke. The lyrics and ideas he brought to us were hilarious, but we couldn’t find a way to work them into a song. Then, one day we were doing some writing and decided to throw them over some cheesy chords and it was like electricity.

“Words started coming out like wildfire and we were laughing our butts off writing these lyrics about high school stereotypes and joking about clichés.”

“When we were at Beach Road Studios recording this tune, we had a wild time,” Jack says. “Josh lost his voice, there was seemingly a world-ending snow and ice storm outside and, on the final day, we woke up to an emergency alert about a nuclear plant in the area!

“When it came time to record the video, we were all blown away by the mix,” Joseph adds. “Given everything that went on during the recording process, we NEEDED the video to be just as incredible.”

“We came up with this idea to have a ‘Plaid Messiah’ going around, converting potential followers to the ‘way of the plaid,’” Shawn — who also worked his creative magic on the video — shares. “We rounded up our crew, which consisted of close friends and family, and created this rad video that pokes fun at some stereotypes in style and fashion, as well as a controversial event here in our small town.”

Wait.

‘Controversial event’??!?

To see what that means, “Beanies and Plaid Jackets” is available now.

Popcaan Unveils Surprise Fixtape On Unruly / OVO Sound

Popcaan has unveiled a new project titled FIXTAPE via Unruly / OVO Sound. The release follows Popcaan’s surprise announcement of the project on socials less than 24 hours ago. FIXTAPE arrives as the dancehall icon caps off Jamaican Independence Day and includes a star-studded lineup, such as the Nineteen85-produced track “TWIST & TURN” featuring Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR. Additional guest appearances include French Montana, Preme, Masicka, Stylo G, Dane Ray, Frahcess One, Tommy Lee, and Jada Kingdom. FIXTAPE continues Popcaan’s historic narrative as one of the most prominent global superstars in the reggae space today. It is also the follow-up to his Vanquish mixtape, which released back in December of 2019 after it was announced that he had signed to OVO Sound.

Jamaica’s Popcaan is an international superstar who has become synonymous with dancehall for the better part of a decade. Having made an impact initially via his association with Vybz Kartel, he went on to become a global sensation and was culturally relevant in the United States by the time he released his debut album, the critically-lauded Where We Come From, which debuted at #2 on Billboard’s Reggae Albums chart in 2014. Popcaan has collaborated with many notable artists, including appearances on high-profile tracks like Jamie xx’s “I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times),” Drake’s “Know Yourself,” as well as Gorillaz’ track “Saturnz Barz.” In 2018, he released his acclaimed sophomore full-length album Forever, which also debuted at #2 on Billboard’s Reggae Albums Chart. In 2019, it was announced at Popcaan’s popular Unruly Fest that he signed to OVO Sound.

The 19-track body of work is powered by Popcaan’s potent energy, lyrics, and unique amalgam of genres from hip-hop to dancehall and pop. FIXTAPE is further proof that his cultural appeal spans from the streets to the club.

Popcaan has amassed over 683 million streams and currently has more than half-a-billion YouTube views along with 1.14 million subscribers.

Even as our cities literally smolder and our leadership fails us, we will come together to lift our voices, assert our rights, reclaim our power, and manifest a vision for our future where everyone can live with dignity, freedom, and hope.

Four days of programming streams including panel discussions, live performances, and dynamic community-building activities await. Together we will lift our voices, have brave conversations, face the pain and beauty of the last few years while planning and organizing for the upcoming election.

For those who aren’t registered to vote, they can do so in less than two minutes via March For Our Lives at https://bit.ly/2DwuNCr

INTO ACTION consists of four events which are centered around key social justice moments in August:

• TAKE BLACK THE VOTE (August 6, 2020)

August 6th marks the 55th Anniversary of the Voting Rights Act. We will kick off the INTO ACTION with a broadcast from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, Atlanta, Milwaukee, Miami, New Orleans, Los Angeles, Washington DC and other locations focused building black political power, mobilizing the vote and honoring the legacy and the ongoing work to address issues of voter suppression and the ongoing battle for voting rights, particularly for the BIPOC community.

In the legacy of the great cultural movement that drove the Voting Rights Act, we will celebrate this day with high profile speakers, thought-provoking panel discussions, intimate interviews, musical performances, spoken word and visual art – mixing the wisdom of our elder organizers with the next generation of leaders taking the reins to fight for justice.
Featuring: John Legend, Stacey Abrams, Common, Philip Agnew, Chuck D, Billy Porter, Christian McBride, Usher, Kendrick Sampson, The Wide Awakes featuring the Blacksmiths, Sweet Honey in the Rock, Mumu Fresh, Ashlee Marie Preston, Leah Daughtry and more.

ART + ACTIVISM (August 7, 2020)
Artists are the tip of the spear of social change. In collaboration with the Kennedy Center, join artists + activists using their talents to build momentum towards lasting change.

OUR VOICE OUR POWER (August 12, 2020)
From climate justice to ending mass incarceration, from gun violence to rising student debt, young people are showing up to face these challenges, showing up to vote and taking the future into our own hands. We will continue to push everyone to be better, to take seriously our legacy and to take on problems you wrote off as insurmountable. On International Youth Day, we bring together young leaders from across the intersecting movements they lead and celebrate the young people who are stepping into power and using their voice to demand justice.

RATIFIED (August 18, 2020)
Black Lives Matter was created by three black women. The climate justice movement is being driven by women. The fight to end mass incarceration and deportation is being driven by women. In fact, women drive social and cultural change – period. Yet, inequity persists. From pay to power, from self-determination to protecting the air we all breathe, we will celebrate the women who continue to drive change in and out of government. We will explore the beautiful struggle of political, organizing, and emotional work that women leaders carry, look back at how much we have achieved, and recommit to changing all that still must evolve.

Selena Gomez’s Cooking Show “Selena + Chef” To Stream on HBO Max Beginning August 13

0

HBO Max announced today that the Selena Gomez cooking show, SELENA + CHEF will premiere on the streamer Thursday, August 13.

The series is executive produced by Gomez for July Moon Productions, along with executive producers Eli Holzman, Aaron Saidman, and Leah Hariton on behalf of Industrial Media’s The Intellectual Property Corporation (IPC). The unscripted 10-episode cooking series features the multi-platinum selling recording artist, actress, producer, entrepreneur, and philanthropist as she navigates unfamiliar territory: making delicious meals while stuck at home in quarantine.

The world-renowned chefs featured during the season includes Angelo Sosa, Antonia Lofaso, Candice Kumai, Daniel Holzman, Jon & Vinny, Ludo Lefebvre, Nancy Silverton, Nyesha Arrington, Roy Choi, and Tonya Holland.

“Having some of the best chefs open up their kitchens to me was a humbling and fun experience. I definitely discovered I have a lot more to learn. I’m also really happy that we were able to highlight and raise money for some incredible charitable organizations,” said Gomez.

“Watching Selena with these incredible chefs has been a delicious joy,” said Sarah Aubrey, Head of Original Content, HBO Max. “You don’t need to be an experienced chef yourself to enjoy the show; you learn with her and get to see all the fun that happens in the kitchen. Try not to watch it while hungry!”

Since social distancing at home, Selena has been spending more time in the kitchen than she ever imagined. But despite her many talents, it remains to be seen if cooking is one of them. In each episode of this unapologetically authentic cookalong, Selena, with the support of her Quaranteam, will be joined remotely by a different master chef. Together, they’ll tackle cuisines of every variety, share invaluable tips and tricks, and deal with everything from smoking ovens to missing ingredients. Each episode will highlight a food-related charity, and this casual, funny, and informative series will embrace both the struggle and the joy of learning to cook – while inviting audiences to follow along at home.

This project marks the second collaboration between IPC’s Holzman and Saidman and Gomez following the last year’s groundbreaking, six-part docuseries “Living Undocumented,” which the three executive produced and Saidman also co-directed. Holzman and Saidman also lead IPC’s parent company, Industrial Media, an independent production group with ownership interest in IPC, Sharp Entertainment, 19 Entertainment, and B17 Entertainment which is currently producing Craftopia hosted by YouTube star LaurDIY for HBO Max.

Idol creator Simon Fuller and TikTok team up to assemble the world’s next music supergroup

0

Simon Fuller, renowned hit-maker and founder of XIX Entertainment, and TikTok, the short-form video app with a mission to inspire creativity and bring joy, today announced a ground-breaking partnership to discover the most talented music performers on TikTok and create a first-of-its-kind global music collective.

Through an in-app audition process on TikTok, Fuller – an entertainment industry icon and creator of the Idol franchise, which re-defined how television could provide a launch platform for music talent – will be looking for extraordinary undiscovered artists to earn a spot in the innovative group. In re-writing the rules of music discovery, Fuller and TikTok will bring fresh excitement and joy to the global stage and place the TikTok audience at the heart of the group’s development.

TikTok has proven to be a platform unlike any other where artists can quickly and easily share their creativity and immediately rocket to global fame.

“TikTok has empowered self-expression and creativity and captured the hearts and minds of hundreds of millions of passionate users. The next generation of Pop Stars have eagerly embraced the platform,” said Fuller. “With the help of the TikTok audience, I will bring together a line-up of incredible artists to shape the next level of Pop Fandom. This will be the most connected Pop Group ever, thriving on every platform and sharing their talent and positive energy with the world.”

TikTok has been transformational for the music industry. The beloved video platform has helped catapult new artists to fame, given new life and new audiences to throwback hits, and fundamentally changed the way music is developed and consumed around the world. Music is among the many ways TikTok is a driving force of our culture today.

“It’s been nothing short of awe-inspiring to see the extraordinary musical talent – from up-and-coming artists to superstars like Lizzo, JLo and Justin Beiber – that shows up on TikTok every day and inspires even more creativity around the world,” said Kevin Mayer, TikTok CEO. “Together with Simon Fuller, we have the opportunity to find the next stars, many of whom are on TikTok today, and empower them to become a cultural phenomenon.”

“TikTok is shaping culture, supercharging music discovery, and fast-tracking artists onto the charts,” said Ole Obermann, TikTok’s Global Head of Music. “We’re delighted to partner with Simon Fuller as we continue to support emerging talent and build TikTok as the premiere artist development and discovery platform. Simon’s unrivalled track record of identifying and nurturing musical talent is a perfect fit with our mission at TikTok.”

TikTok has become the go-to staging ground that has helped previously little known or undiscovered artists like Lil Nas X, Curtis Waters, Ambjaay, Breland, Mxmtoon, Y2K, and bbno$ find mainstream fame and dominate the charts. Combining TikTok’s enhanced social virality for musicians on the app with Fuller’s unique ability to spot and develop talent, this partnership has all the right makings of creating the world’s next chart-topping pop group.

Talent should keep an eye on the TikTok app for forthcoming audition details.

Most Expensive Motown Vinyl Record Ever Sold Comes To American Airwaves For First Time, Courtesy Of Uncle Nearest

0

Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey, the most awarded American whiskey brand of 2019 and 2020 to-date, announces today the release of a new commercial utilizing the music of legendary Motown writer and producer, Frank Wilson. The song, “Do I Love You (Indeed I Do),” was written and performed by Wilson, and set a record in 2009 as the most expensive Motown vinyl ever sold when a Leicestershire, UK-based record dealer organized the sale to an anonymous buyer for £25,742. The album, which remains the tenth most expensive vinyl record ever sold, was never released in the U.S. The song is being introduced to the American public for the first time in Uncle Nearest’s newest commercial titled “Do I Love You.” Uncle Nearest CEO and founder Fawn Weaver is the daughter of Wilson.

Only 250 demo copies of the 7″ vinyl record were ever pressed. As few as two are reported to have survived with the rest being intentionally destroyed when Wilson made the decision to be a Motown producer rather than a singer. It is believed that one of those two vinyls are in the private collection of Motown Records founder Berry Gordy, while the other landed at a famous English Northern soul nightclub in Wigan, England, where the song became a cult classic in the ’60s and ’70s. Due to its enormous popularity, the album was officially released in the UK in 1979. It is arguably the most popular Northern Soul record of all time and remained No. 1 on the Northern Soul charts as late as 2015.

Weaver and the Uncle Nearest brand are becoming synonymous with uncovering lesser-known stories in American history. In 2017, Weaver introduced the world to Nearest Green through the launch of Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey. A story once lost to time, Weaver’s extensive research revealed that Green, a formerly enslaved man, was the first known African-American master distiller. Today, his name and legacy lives on through the whiskey and the Nearest Green Distillery located in Shelbyville, Tenn.

“I remember where I was the moment I learned my father had recorded an album with his own voice,” said Weaver. “My father did a brilliant job of cementing his own legacy when he was alive. Now, I have the honor of combining that with my own mission of cementing the legacy of Nearest Green, a man who didn’t have the chance to do that while he was living. I have no doubt my father is in heaven with a smile, and hopefully seated right next to him is another legend, Nearest.”

This is the second commercial from the super-premium whiskey brand. Uncle Nearest’s first-ever commercial, “The Why,” debuted last year as an introduction to the godfather of Tennessee Whiskey, and featured Emmy award-winning actor, Jeffrey Wright.

“The opportunity to share the story of yet another legacy was too good to pass up,” said David Poag, the director of both commercials. “And the song itself is just so good. It makes you want to jump and dance, it makes you happy. That’s an emotion we are proud to be broadcasting right now.”

“Do I Love You” began airing today in all 50 states, with the first commercial running in Detroit, Mich., the original home of Motown Records.
