The JUNOs In Saskatoon Are A Go
I’ll be at the JUNOs again this week, and the big news this morning is The JUNOs are going ahead with their plans and events, kicking off today in Saskatoon, culminating with the awards ceremonies Saturday and CBC’s broadcast of the major awards and performances on Sunday.
Here’s the statement from CARAS president and CEO Allan Reid:
“The health, safety and well-being of everyone is of paramount importance to the CARAS organization. As it relates to COVID-19, we have been closely monitoring the position of the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC) and other experts within our federal, provincial and municipal governing bodies.
“Based on the numerous consultations of relevant authorities, including the World Health Organization (WHO), the risks associated with COVID-19 remain low for Canada and Canadian travellers.
“As such, we are proceeding as planned with The 49th annual Juno Awards Broadcast and Juno Week activities, scheduled to take place in Saskatoon, from March 9-15, 2020. We will continue to monitor developments and will act accordingly and advise if the situation changes.”
2020 JUNO Nominee All-Girl Teen Pop Supergroup GIRL POW-R Releases Medley of Single Of The Year – Alessia Cara, Bulow, Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes, Lennon Stella, Scott Helman
Chart-topping and touring powerhouse Canadian all-girl teen pop band Girl Pow-R are once again inspiring young women across the country as they receive their first JUNO Award nomination for 2020 Children’s Album of the Year! And to celebrate, they continue to put the spotlight on others: This year’s JUNO nominees for Single Of The Year featuring songs from Releases Medley of Single Of The Year – Alessia Cara, Bulow, Justin Bieber, Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello, Lennon Stella, and Scott Helman.
GIRL POW-R will be in Saskatoon starting Thursday afternoon until Monday morning for interviews and in-studio performances. Let me know if you’d like to have one! They will also be doing Flash Mobs across the city throughout the weekend, too!
The ceiling-shattering nod as one of the youngest acts to ever receive a nomination lands for their debut release, This Is Us — available now.
Hot on the heels of the album’s critically acclaimed hits “Never Let Go” — which debuted on the iTunes Canada Children’s chart at #2 (second only to cultural force “Baby Shark” but ahead of genre mainstays such as Sharon, Lois & Bram, The Wiggles, and Raffi), and #15 in the U.S. — the album’s title track “This Is Us” has received more than 500,000 streams across all available platforms.
With members ranging in age from 11 – 17, Girl Pow-R’s greatest strength lies in the diversity in their ages, backgrounds and life experiences. The universal things that join them together are dynamic skill sets and a shared mission of empowerment among young women in the world today. With lyrics like “passionate for some change,” “take our message, shout it out,” and “we won’t be pushed around, we are strong, we are proud,” the title song from the all-girl supergroup continues to embody their core mission of banding together and uplifting their peers.
In continuing their inspirational mission of spreading confidence and kindness, Girl Pow-R — as seen on Breakfast Television, CP24, SiriusXM, YTV, TVO Kids, CityTV, eTalk Canada, Girls’ Life, Tiger Beat, J-14, Celeb Secrets, Fresh 95.3 and more — are proud their debut album This Is Us is encouraging girls to stay confident in their individuality and avoid the pitfalls of peer pressure and online influence in today’s hyper-digital age.
This Is Us is available now.

Lewis Capaldi Announces North American Tour Dates
Lewis Capaldi, the 23-year-old Scottish superstar artist, has announced his summer 2020 North American tour. The headline run will kick off on July 17 at Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre in Vancouver, BC and include shows at Marymoor Park in Redmond, WA (7/18), The Mission Ballroom in Denver (7/24) and Rockland Trust Bank Pavilion in Boston (7/31).
The official video for Lewis Capaldi’s new single, “Before You Go,” is out now. Directed by Kyle Thrash, the poignant clip captures the joyful moments recalled by a group of friends as they pay tribute to a vibrant young woman – played by Sasha Lane (American Honey, Hellboy) – whose suicide shocked them all.
“Before You Go” – one of three new songs on Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent Extended Edition – has topped the UK Singles and Irish Singles charts, marking Capaldi’s second No. 1 in the UK and third No. 1 in Ireland. The song was inspired by Lewis’ aunt, who committed suicide when he was a young boy. Examining the lyrics in this piece, Billboard observes, “The melancholic ballad details the agony-inducing aftermath of a loved on dying by suicide.” Clash says, “it’s a rousing piece of acoustic songwriting with a driving vocal – trademark Capaldi, in other words.” Global streams of “Before You Go” have soared past 245 million as the song climbs the charts at U.S. Top 40 and Hot AC radio.
Capaldi, whose 2019 fall North American tour was completely sold out, will join as a special guest on Niall Horan’s 2020 Nice To Meet Ya world tour. The outing will launch on April 20 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, TN and include shows at Barclays Center in New York (April 29) and The Forum in Los Angeles (May 18). Capaldi’s March 2020 tour of the UK and Ireland sold out in mere seconds, making him the first artist in history to sell out arenas prior to the release of a debut album. He is nominated for four BRIT Awards.
Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent was the biggest album of 2019 in the UK, and the single “Someone You Loved” was the biggest song of 2019, according the UK’s Official Charts. In the States, the track was nominated for a GRAMMY for Song of the Year and spent three weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. “Someone You Loved” has now hit one billion combined global streams on Spotify alone. It is certified Platinum or greater in a total of 18 countries, including the U.S.
Robert Christgau reviewing for Noisey, awarded Divinely Uninspired To A Hellish Extent an A- and hailed it as “a feat of uncommon emotional intelligence.” TIME says, “Lewis Capaldi has the kind of deep, textured voice that you could listen to for hours.”

Foo Fighters 25th Anniversary Celebrations Begin “The Van Tour” To Revisit Stops Along 1995 Tour
Congratulations: You’re old! You’ve been going to see Foo Fighters shows for 25 years now! What better way to celebrate than joining the band in commemorating its silver anniversary in some of the same cities where the first FF shows took place in 1995? Beginning April 12 at the Talking Stick Resort Arena in Phoenix AZ, the Foo Fighters’ 2020 Van Tour will do just that, hitting a number of the same spots that Dave Grohl, Nate Mendel and Pat Smear trailblazed in a Dodge van all those years ago—in arenas this time, because aside from many of those clubs on that 1995 trek having since ceased to exist, squeezing a 2020 FF show into the few that are still around would just be too insane…
… or would it? Stay tuned for the answer to that question. Or answers…
In addition to customary all-night rock n roll marathons from 1995 Van Tour veterans Grohl, Mendel and Smear and their longtime comrades Taylor Hawkins, Chris Shiflett and Rami Jaffee, each and every 2020 Van Tour show will feature a very special opening attraction: A sneak peek at an excerpt from Dave Grohl’s brand new documentary WHAT DRIVES US. Foo Fighters’ 2020 Van Tour will feature a short preview from Dave’s deep dive into what possesses a particular tribe of human beings to leave behind jobs, families, relationships and any semblance of sanity to climb into a busted ass econoline and take their music to the people–or at least a dozen or so of them here and there. WHAT DRIVES US explores motivations, recounts personal anecdotes, and explores the physical and psychological toll of touring in vans via interviews with members of van tour veteran bands ranging from Black Flag and Dead Kennedys to Metallica and The Beatles, and many, many more.

Korn And Faith No More Announce Co-Headline North American Summer Tour
Grammy award-winning heavyweights Korn and the iconoclastic, platinum-selling Faith No More today announced their epic co-headline North American tour. The tour will see both bands traversing the continent this summer and will give fans the chance to see two of the biggest forces in rock perform on the same stage each night. The tour will also feature special guests Daron Malakian and Scars on Broadway, Helmet, Spotlights, and ’68 on select dates.
KORN changed the world with the release of their self-titled debut album. It was a record that would pioneer a movement and blur genres, while the band’s enduring success points to a larger cultural moment. The FADER notes, “There was an unexpected opening in the pop landscape and KORN articulated a generational coming-of-angst for a claustrophobic, self-surveilled consciousness. KORN became the soundtrack for a generation’s arrival as a snarling, thrashing, systemically-restrained freak show.” Since forming, KORN has sold 40 million albums worldwide, collected two GRAMMYS, toured the world countless times, and set many records in the process that will likely never be surpassed. Vocalist Jonathan Davis, guitarists James “Munky” Shaffer and Brian “Head” Welch, bassist Reginald “Fieldy” Arvizu, and drummer Ray Luzier, have continued to push the limits of the rock, alternative and metal genres, while remaining a pillar of influence for legions of fans and generations of artists around the globe. The level of KORN’s reach transcends accolades and platinum certifications. They are “a genuine movement in a way bands cannot be now,” attests The Ringer. They represent a new archetype and radical innovation, their ability to transcend genre makes barriers seem irrelevant.
Faith No More is Mike Bordin (drums), Roddy Bottum (keyboards), Bill Gould (bass), Jon Hudson (guitar), and Mike Patton (vocals). The San Francisco-born, platinum-selling band have released seven studio albums: We Care A Lot (1985), Introduce Yourself (1987), The Real Thing (1989), Angel Dust (1992), King For A Day… Fool For A Lifetime (1995), Album of the Year (1997) and Sol Invictus (2015). Sol Invictus debuted atop the international sales charts: #2 in Australia, #4 in Germany, and #6 in both the U.S. and UK. Rolling Stone dubbed the 10-song album “triumphant,” the New Yorker called it “a reminder of everything that made Faith No More great in the first place,” and the Los Angeles Times said, “Faith No More has a history of defying expectations, and that’s what it’s doing again with Sol Invictus.”

Primus Performing Rush’s Classic ‘A Farewell to Kings’ In Its Entirety On North American Tour
Primus will pay homage to prog-rock legends Rush this summer with A Tribute to Kings, a cross-country tour that will feature the Bay Area trio playing Rush’s classic 1977 album A Farewell to Kings in its entirety, in addition to their own music.
“A little over one year ago, Ler Lalonde and I started kicking the idea around of Primus performing a series of shows featuring an iconic Rush album from our youth,” says bandleader Les Claypool. “Being that A Farewell to Kings was the first Rush record I ever heard, and that it contains my all-time favorite Rush tune, “Cygnus X1,” the choice narrowed quickly. Years ago I had done something similar with Colonel Claypool’s Fearless Flying Frog Brigade, when we covered Pink Floyd’s Animals in its entirety. It was an insane amount of work, but ended up being one of the most enjoyable live endeavors I’ve ever done. Dubbing the tour ‘Primus: A Tribute to Kings,’ it was originally scheduled to be performed in the Fall of 2019 but, when we were asked to support Slayer on their Final Campaign, the ‘Tribute to Kings’ tour was postponed.
Geddy, Alex and Neil had been superheroes to Larry, Herb and I in our teens, so when we all became pals while touring together in the early ’90s, we were pretty delighted; partially because of the musical geek-out factor but mostly because the three guys whom we had admired so much from afar, turned out to be truly great, down-to-earth humans, and like us, a tad eccentric.
The ‘Tribute to Kings’ tour will be just as it is implied, a respectful and loving tribute to three spectacular musicians, songwriters, legends and friends.”
A Tribute to Kings kicks off in May and spans over 40 dates through August, including Bonnaroo Arts And Music Festival in Tennessee, New York City’s Beacon Theatre, LA’s Greek Theatre, and a Bay Area hometown show at Berkeley’s Greek Theater. Wolfmother will open the entire tour with additional support from The Sword and Battles.
