Neil Peart’s Isolated Drum Track for Rush’s ‘YYZ’

0

Rush’s YYZ, from their 1981 album Moving Pictures is one of the band’s most popular pieces and a staple of the band’s live performances. The live album Exit…Stage Left (1981) and the concert video recording A Show of Hands (1989) both include versions in which Neil Peart incorporates a drum solo; as an interlude on the former, and as a segue out of the piece on the latter.

Whoa. That is all.

ABBA to Re-release Landmark Concert as 3LP Set Half-Speed Mastered by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios

0

By the time ABBA played London’s Wembley Arena in November 1979, they had spent five years in the public spotlight – although it seems a short time now, they had lived several lives in that period. Comprising of writers Björn Ulvaeus and Benny Andersson, and the incomparable vocals of Agnetha Fältskog and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, ABBA shot to international fame by winning the Eurovision Song Contest in Brighton UK in 1974. From that moment on, they had moved through the glam’n’glitter of Arrival, the megastardom of ABBA – The Album and the gloss and embracing of disco of Voulez-Vous.

ABBA’s concerts in London at the end of the ’70s – the decade that they helped to shape musically – quickly became the stuff of legend. For a group that toured only a handful of times, these shows were a pinnacle, coming near the end of their touring life. Backstage they would have admirers such as Ian DuryJoe Strummer (‘Spanish Bombs’ from the Clash’s London Calling was said to be influenced by ABBA) and Jimmy Page dropping by to catch the hottest ticket in town. John Cleese was spotted in the auditorium.

The tour had opened in Edmonton, Canada in September 1979 and was to close in Dublin on November 15th. ABBA loved being in London (Frida wore an Arsenal FC shirt one night), fighting off winter chills to deliver some of the most exhilarating performances of their career. Coinciding with the release of their Greatest Hits Volume 2 album, this was high-octane ABBA, captured forever in the legendary pictures of the event with Frida and Agnetha appearing initially in Nordic outfits that referenced ‘blue-tinged mountains and glittering waters’ before all four emerged in their blue jumpsuits, singing as if their life depended upon it.

When ABBA took the stage, their experience and professionalism showed. Audiences and critics were astounded that ABBA could reproduce their studio sound live – and sometimes it swung even more. The backing musicians were Sweden’s best and most experienced. Although principally promoting their recent Voulez-Vous album, the set covered highlights throughout their career and contained a rare performance of Agnetha’s ‘I’m Still Alive’, unreleased on any album. It is now time to hear ABBA at the peak of their live performance again on ABBA – Live at Wembley ArenaThe concert is now available on a 180gm beautiful triple vinyl, produced by Ludvig Andersson, and half-speed mastered by Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios.

10 ways to write a better speech

0

Want to write a speech for your class, but don’t know how to begin? Don’t worry, we understand that delivering a speech by converting words to minutes in a room full of people can be quite intimidating. But if you know how to play with words, you can craft a wonderful speech easily. Writing a convincing and effective speech comes with careful planning and having an eye for detail.

The main aim of delivering a speech is to motivate and inform the listeners which you can achieve by understanding their mindset and perspective. Before you start writing the speech, make sure that you have a good command over the language and understanding of the topic. Create an outline by identifying who are the listeners? What is the prime reason for writing the speech? What is the main topic? Peachy Essay offers 10 easy ways to write a better speech and make a first good impression.

  1. Understanding the audience: Do you know who your audience is? You should keep the perspective of your audience in mind while crafting your speech. Once you have identified your audience, try to tailor the information according to their needs. While choosing the words, try to determine whether or not your audience will be able to comprehend the information. What level of language is suitable for your audience? The same goes for including technical terms and jargon in your speech.
  2. Create an outline: Create a structure by dividing your speech into different sections. What are the points you can include in each section? What are the main ideas? Think of the statements and examples you can include to prove your point of view.
  3. Read it twice: After you are done writing the first draft of your speech, read it at least 2-3 times. It will help you detect any transitional or language errors in the speech. Before you start reading, set the timer on your watch or phone, and note the number of minutes it takes you to deliver each section of the speech.
  4. Follow the word count: How many words you can speak in a minute? It depends on a person’s speed when they talk. The word count of a speech is directly linked with the time limit you have been given. Consider the total number of minutes you have. This way you will be able to communicate all the main points of your speech on time.
  5. Create sections: Divide your speech into various sections which usually include an introduction, valid points, strong statement, examples, and conclusion. The introduction should be at least 2 minutes long. Introduce your topic and include an anecdote to raise the interest of your audience. You can also use the mind mapping technique to represent ideas and concepts in your speech. It will help you arrange thoughts and concepts. Get more custom writing ideas here.
  6. Language quality: Remember you are writing a speech about your audience and not for yourself. Check the tone and language of your speech while creating the first draft. Use common words rather than complex vocabulary as it can confuse your readers. Edit your speech by reading it word to word. Try to spot jargon and spelling errors. Also, to improve the language quality of your speech, check the length of sentences. Write short and simple sentences, instead of writing one longer sentence. Your audience must be able to grasp what you are trying to convey.
  7. Introduction: The introduction section is one of the most important parts of a speech. Use this section to convince your audience why they should listen to you. Tell your audience why you are giving the speech. Keep your audience engaged from the very beginning by including real-life examples that they find relatable. You can achieve this by establishing a connection between you and your audience.
  8. Including anecdote: In the seventh point, we have talked about establishing a connection with the audience. To achieve that, you can include an anecdote in your speech. Start by telling an interesting story that is related to the topic of your speech. Try to keep it short and up to the point as you may have limited time. It is an effective way to grab the attention of your audience and engage with them on a personal level.
  9. Ask a question: There are two types of questions you can ask your audience to kick-start a conversation. It can be either a response question or a rhetorical question. Ask questions from your audience, listen to their views, and then explain to them the main concept. Once they are indulged in the conversation, you can state your viewpoints effectively.
  10. Connect with listeners: One of the main reasons for delivering a speech is to connect with your target listeners and motivate them. While writing down your speech, make sure that the content you have included is relevant to your topic. You may have a lot of interesting things to share, but remember you are on a time crunch. Do you have a specific goal in your mind? If your answer is yes, then ensure that you convey the right message to your listeners.

The Lehman Trilogy Review: An eccentric dive into Lehman Brothers’ History

0

It’s the epic history of three Jewish brothers who brought the corporate world to its knees. The Lehman Trilogy creates the standard by telling their story in the best way possible. A musical that is a fabrication of Italian writer Stefano Massini directed by an Englishman Sam Mendes and yet a story typically American. Currently playing at Nederlander Theatre in New York, this musical is surely a must-see.

This is your chance to make an already fantastic experience sensational by reducing the cost to its minimum with Lehman Trilogy broadway tickets. This fantastic three-person musical came to Broadway after a total sold-out session at the National Theatre, the Park Avenue Armory, and London’s West End. The New York Times calls it “a ticket worth cashing in your gilt-edged securities for” and The Wall Street Journal says, “You should crawl across broken glass to see it.”

Know Before You Go

A direction of numerous award-winner Sam Mendes, The Lehman Trilogy charts the corporate life of three Jewish brothers as they arrive in America searching for a new life. The story covers it all in a 2 hour and 30-minute production. From a general store in a neighborhood to a well-established firm and its collapse. Lehman Brother’s Firm ruin caused an uproar in the financial sector of the American economy. The biggest financial crisis ever in the history of America.

Their journey through it all is covered by three cast members only. The cast includes Simon Russell Beale as the eldest Lehman brother ‘Henry’, Ben Miles playing second brother ‘Emanuel’ and Adam Godley as Mayer Lehman. As The New York Post suggests, “You dare not miss it” you better “Do anything you can to get a ticket.”

The Lehman Trilogy: An Intense Bravado

The story takes place in New York in the mid-19th century. Where three Orthodox Jews arrive looking for life for themselves. The two brothers settled in the neighborhood whereas the eldest moved to the south, to Montgomery, Ala. He opens a general store benefiting from the Jewish Sabbath. Where his store was closed on Friday and Saturday evenings and open on Sunday all day. Bringing in floods of customers that were there for religious or other reasons.  Later the other two brothers join in and start selling raw materials to grow cotton and then the crop itself. There was practically nothing they didn’t do. From trading coffee and oil, finance railroads and airlines, to pushing into film production. They produced films like “King Kong” and “Gone with the Wind”.

The production doesn’t stray from the story much but it rather not delve into the Lehman brothers firm’s demise. Which resulted in a full-blown financial outrage in America. It is mostly credited to the bank’s decision to pull all strings to focus solely on financial mechanisms. However, the staging of the three-men cast was the highlight of the show.

In an instance, Beale turns into a depressing teacher instructing none-other-than the future senator and governor of New York. The scene is hysteric without contrast, a pure comedic highlight in the musical. Then in one scene Adam Godley sucking the life out of the dance as Bobbie Lehman had the audience breaking into a big round of applause.

Conclusion:

The play though seems rushed at times doesn’t fail to deliver the emotional weight of the story. The writing is lyrical and direction outstanding. But what makes it an all-time success is its trio of actors who are almost never vague in their precision. They are well deserving of their collective nominee of the Olivier Award for Best Actor.

Musicians Still Aren’t Getting The Help They Need For Substance Abuse, Addictions Help

ASCAP, the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, announces the official launch of the ASCAP Wellness Program to meet the evolving wellness needs of music creators. With this new program, ASCAP becomes the first US performing rights organization to focus heavily on its members’ physical and mental well-being to support their creativity, life balance and longevity.

“Creating music is an all-consuming passion and a labor of love, but you’ve got to take care of your instrument — in the case of music creators, your body, mind and spirit,” said ASCAP Chairman of the Board and President Paul Williams. “ASCAP has a long commitment to supporting the livelihoods of its songwriters and composers. With our new Wellness Program, we’re taking that one step further. If creating music is your life, we are here to provide the resources you need to be at your creative best. This is just the beginning, and we will roll out more services in the months to come.”

As part of ASCAP’s commitment to the needs of its members, the organization commissioned an extensive research survey to be conducted on an annual basis: “The US Music Creator Wellness Study.” The inaugural 2019 report revealed that music creators:

  • Have health and wellness needs that significantly exceed those of the general population
  • Do not feel that they have good access to wellness services
  • Are almost a third more likely than the general population to feel that their wellness has a major impact on their career

Fueled by the findings of the study, ASCAP has developed the Wellness Program (www.ascap.com/wellness) to include:

Innovative Wellness Services

ASCAP members will receive a range of benefits including access to and significant discounts on innovative services that support mental health, mindfulness, exercise and nutrition. Key strategic partners in the ASCAP Wellness Program include:

  • Aaptiv: music-powered, coach-guided digital audio workouts
  • BetterHelp: easy, affordable, anywhere access to therapists and mental health resources via your digital devices
  • Daily Burn: access to thousands of workout videos available from your home
  • Motiv: a fitness and sleep tracker housed in a ring
  • Shine: a self-care app with easy exercises and a supportive community

Recovery Support

The ASCAP Wellness Program also announces a strategic partnership with MusiCares®, a charitable arm of the Recording Academy®, that provides critical assistance to music people in times of need. Together with ASCAP, MusiCares will launch recovery-focused support groups in multiple cities as well as a digital support group that offers services to creators in any location. MusiCares will also serve as an official advisor on ASCAP’s recovery and mental health programs.

Wellness Events

Given music creators’ focus on both community and their health (see survey results below), the ASCAP Wellness Program will host wellness events for ASCAP members throughout the year in multiple cities. Wellness Program events will launch at the organization’s New York City headquarters on January 6 with a “sound bath,” an immersive group meditation experience that utilizes sound from a range of instruments to benefit a participant’s mind, body and spirit. Similar events in Los Angeles and Nashville will follow.

Additionally, the organization is planning a dedicated wellness programming track at the upcoming 2020 ASCAP Experience in Los Angeles, April 1 – 3. It has also hosted a number of other activities over the past month to preview the ASCAP Wellness Program, including a post-ASCAP Country Music Awards “ASCAP x Barry’s” workout in Nashville (featuring an all-ASCAP playlist), and “Mind Your Business: Mental Health in the Music Industry,” an ASCAP Urban panel discussion in LA.

Content Initiatives

As part of the effort, ASCAP will launch a new wellness content initiative, including today’s debut of a bonus episode of VERSED: The ASCAP Podcast featuring an interview with Paul Williams on the subjects of recovery and well-being as it relates to music creators. The ASCAP Wellness Program will also introduce #WellnessWednesday on all of its social media presences, featuring advice, inspiration and ASCAP members sharing their wellness activities.

ASCAP members are already voicing their enthusiasm for ASCAP’s commitment to their well-being through the Wellness Program:

“My wellness is more than being in the best shape I physically can be in for running around on stage each night,” said Michael Franti, a musician, humanitarian, filmmaker and activist. “It’s equally about eating well, getting enough sleep and being able to grow with the challenges that life on the road brings, without becoming so stressed that I can’t show up for my wife, kids and touring family in the way that I want to each day. Throughout my adult life I’ve battled depression and anxiety, and the music business has no shortage of pressures that can drag me down if I don’t have healthy habits in place. I’m super excited and grateful that ASCAP has made a commitment to helping artists be mindful stewards of their own bodies and hearts, so that they can be the best musical messengers of optimism, wellness and healing possible.”

SURVEY RESULTS

ASCAP’s 2019 US Music Creator Wellness Survey found that:

  • Music creators are 31% more likely than the general population to say that their health and wellness have a major impact on their careers
  • While creators are three times more likely than the general population to feel creative, inspired and brave, they are two to three times more likely to feel alone, disappointed and ignored
  • As a result, music creators place high importance on:
    • Mental health and balance:
      • 83% more likely than the general population to say “meditating or practicing mindfulness” is very important to them
      • 55% more likely to say “therapy or coaching for self-improvement” is very important to them
    • Exercise: Creators are 31% more likely than the general population to say that “exercising” is very important to them
    • Community: Creators are 42% more likely to say “feeling connected to others” is very important to them
  • Music creators are four times less likely than the general population to feel like they have good access to services that can help with substance abuse and other addictions

ASCAP’s 2019 US Music Creator Wellness Study was conducted by Whitman Insight Strategies in Fall 2019.
