James Taylor And Bonnie Raitt Announce “Coast To Coast” Canadian Tour Dates

James Taylor & His All-Star Band with special guest Bonnie Raitt and her band have announced a Coast to Coast Canadian Tour. The tour kicks off in Victoria, British Columbia on April 14, 2020 and includes 12 stops across the country ending in St. John’s, Newfoundland on May 5, 2020.

Taylor and Raitt’s highly anticipated Coast to Coast Canadian Tour celebrates a decades-long friendship. Recent performances in the US have earned rave reviews. The Minneapolis Star Tribune called the show “an unforgettable evening.”

As a recording and touring artist, James Taylor has touched people with his warm baritone voice and distinctive style of guitar-playing for more than 40 years, while setting a precedent to which countless young musicians have aspired. Over the course of his celebrated songwriting and performing career, Taylor has sold more than 100 million albums, earning gold, platinum, and multi-platinum awards for classics ranging from “Sweet Baby James” in 1970 to “October Road” in 2002. In 2015, Taylor released Before This World, his first new studio album in thirteen years, which earned him his first ever #1 album. Taylor has won multiple Grammy awards and has been inducted into both the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and the prestigious Songwriters Hall of Fame. In 2012, Taylor was awarded the distinguished Chevalier of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government and the National Medal of Arts by President Barack Obama in a White House ceremony. In November 2015, Taylor was presented with the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor. In December 2016 Taylor received the Kennedy Center Honors, which are presented annually to individuals who have enriched American culture by distinguished achievement in the performing arts.

Taylor will also be releasing a one-of-a-kind music and storytelling experience entitled, Break Shot in early 2020 on Audible. Break Shot is Taylor’s first-ever spoken-word performance. Break Shot is a deeply personal and authentic audio-only memoir featuring personal reflections on his childhood, family life and early days of his career. Music and songs will be woven throughout.

Bonnie Raitt is more than just a best-selling artist, respected guitarist, expressive singer, and accomplished songwriter, she has become an institution in American music. Born to a musical family, the ten-time Grammy winner, who Rolling Stone named as both one of the “100 Greatest Singers of All Time” and one of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time,” was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. After 20 years as a cult favorite, she broke through to the top in the early 90s with her GRAMMY-award winning albums, Nick of Time and Luck of the Draw, which featured hits such as, “Something To Talk About” and “I Can’t Make You Love Me.” Bonnie Raitt recently released her new album entitled, Dig In Deep. This release includes songs that continue to personify what it means for her to stay creative, adventurous and daring as she has over the course of a legendary career.

Chicago Announces Summer Amphitheater Tour With Rick Springfield

Today the legendary rock & roll band with horns Chicago announced a North American summer amphitheater tour with music icon Rick Springfield. Revered for their dynamic vocals and rich instrumentals, Chicago and Springfield will bring their hits to fans in venues across the U.S. and Canada. Kicking off June 12 in Concord, CA, the outing will visit Phoenix, Dallas, Tampa, Toronto, and more before wrapping in Rosemont, IL on August 1. Full routing can be found below.

Chicago has been honored at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, Songwriters Hall of Fame, and GRAMMY Hall of Fame over the course of their illustrious career. The group’s latest album Chicago Christmas spotlights their trademark sound on eight original songs, two yuletide favorites, and one timless classic. The band appeared in this year’s Macy’s Day Parade and will perform on NBC during the Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting on on December 4. Prolific singer-songwriter Rick Springfield has scored 17 U.S. Top 40 hits and is behind some of the biggest songs of the 80s including “Jessie’s Girl.” Beyond his music career, he is also a lauded actor in both TV and film.

Johnny Gentle, the British pop singer best remembered for having briefly toured Scotland with the Silver Beetles – later known as the Beatles – as his backing group in 1960. Cream Goodbye Tour: Supergroup’s Live 1968 4CD Box Set To Be Released February 2020

Universal Music is delighted to announce the 4-CD, special edition of Cream’s Goodbye Tour Live 1968. Set for release in February 2020, this sumptuous set brings together 36 tracks, including 29 making their first appearance on CD, recorded during Cream’s farewell tour of the U.S. in October 1968 and their final UK date at London’s Royal Albert Hall on November 26 of that same year. There are a total of 19 previously unreleased tracks, and a further 10 tracks from the Royal Albert Hall show, which have only ever been available on DVD. Rolling Stone magazine’s David Fricke supplies insightful liner notes, chronicling the group’s collective musical genius and their legendary final tour.

On its original release in February 1969, Goodbye, which combined live performances from their last tour dates with a handful of studio recordings, rose to the UK no. 1 slot and to no. 2 on the U.S. Billboard chart. This new expanded edition comprises three U.S. concerts; Oakland Coliseum, Los Angeles Forum, San Diego Sports Arena alongside London’s Royal Albert Hall. It captures Cream at their virtuosic best, at the end but also at the height of their career.

With Cream, Ginger Baker, Jack Bruce and Eric Clapton, set the template for not only the ‘supergroup’ but also the ‘power trio’, with their innate musical talent and brilliance. Only coming together as Cream in July 1966, they shone briefly but blindingly brightly throughout two trailblazing years.

From the Rock and Roll WTF Files….he’s Jimmy Page to explain one of the strangest award show stories I’ve ever heard.

“Robert Plant and I had been invited to accept an award from Channel V – India’s premier music channel – and we had won an award for longevity.
“The highlight of the show were to be Los Del Rios, whose ‘Macarena’ song was a global hit at the time. Unfortunately at the last minute the duo pulled out of the trip as one of them had developed a sore throat; which was quite ironic considering they were going to mime. As it was, the chief dancer and choreographer of their video was to perform the song on her own. I believe this was the first time Channel V was doing this on an international level and now they had a bit of problem. They approached us to do something and of course we didn’t have any instruments and hadn’t rehearsed. It was suggested that we could mime Rock’n’Roll with Roger Taylor from Queen on drums (who was there to accept an award on behalf of Freddie Mercury) and a bass player from Goa.
“We agreed to it and did a quick rehearsal, I felt sorry for Channel V that they’d been let down by the Macarena boys. During the rehearsals the Goan bass player was well behaved but when it came to the show he suddenly developed a dose of Saint Vitus Dance and transformed into Billy Whiz crossed with the Flash. He couldn’t stop moving throughout the song and made it even more of a pantomime than it already was. But hey we did it and it was real good to be part of this special award show which is still being aired today”

David Olney, 71, Revered Songwriter Dies During Performance

Revered songwriter David Olney (born March 23, 1948) died Saturday, January 18, 2020, after suffering an apparent heart attack during a performance in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida. He was 71.

A key member of Nashville’s music community since his move to Music City in 1973, the Lincoln, Rhode Island native was a compelling and enigmatic presence. He wrote sonnets and starred at the Nashville Shakespeare Festival, and his live concerts blended tenderness and ferocity, theatre and sincerity, agitation and embrace.

Country Music Hall of Fame member Emmylou Harris said “David Olney tells marvelous stories, with characters who cling to the hope of enduring love, all the while crossing the deep divide into that long, dark night of the soul.” Troubadour Steve Earle called Olney, “One of the best songwriters working in the world today,” and the late Townes Van Zandt once said, “Anytime anyone asks me who my favorite music writers are, I say Mozart, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Bob Dylan and Dave Olney.”

Olney’s songs have been recorded by Harris, Del McCoury, Linda Ronstadt, Steve Young, and many others. His lyrics are products of a remarkable inquisitiveness that allowed him to explore subjects that few songwriters would consider: He wrote of a Nashville train disaster, of baseball shortstop Phil Rizzuto, and of actor John Barrymore. He wrote about Jesus Christ from the narrative perspective of the donkey that carried him into Jerusalem, and about the Titanic from the perspective of the iceberg that sank the ship.

His friend and songwriting great Guy Clark said that Olney’s art “transcends craftsmanship. It’s inspired, for sure.”

Olney moved to Nashville after briefly studying English at the University of North Carolina. He quickly fell in with a group of like-minded songwriters that included Clark, Van Zandt, Rodney Crowell, and Richard Dobson. In the early 1980s, he formed The X-Rays, a jagged rock band that secured a contract with Rounder Records. In 1986, he embarked on a solo recording career that produced more than 20 albums and allowed him to travel the world making music.

He is survived by wife, Regine, daughter, Lillian, and son, Redding, and by a devastated music community. Memorial details are not yet available.

n March 1980, Vince Clarke, Martin Gore and Andy Fletcher formed a band called Composition of Sound, with Clarke on vocals/guitar, Gore on keyboards and Fletcher on bass. Soon after the formation of Composition of Sound, Clarke heard Wirral band Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (OMD), whose output inspired him to make electronic music. Along with OMD, other early influences included the Human League, Daniel Miller and Fad Gadget. Clarke and Fletcher switched to synthesisers, working odd jobs in order to buy the instruments, or borrowing them from friends. Dave Gahan joined the band in 1980 after Clarke heard him perform at a local Scout hut jam session, singing a rendition of David Bowie’s “Heroes”, and Depeche Mode was born. Gahan’s and Gore’s favourite artists included Sparks, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Cabaret Voltaire, Talking Heads and Iggy Pop. Gahan’s persona onstage was influenced by Dave Vanian, frontman of The Damned.

Lyrically, the other two songs are identical, though Dave sings “the ice machine, ice machine” twice during the end of “Ice Machine”, as he similarly does during early live shows until the end of the song. Andy Fletcher surprisingly plays bass during these tracks.
