0

Live Nation Entertainment, the world’s leading live entertainment company, today announced that its Women Nation Fund has selected three female-led businesses for its first round of funding: Tina Farris Tours, Conscious City Guide, and Kingdom of Mind. Launched in May 2018, the fund is an early-stage investment opportunity designed to provide resources and capital for women in the live entertainment industry.

The three businesses selected for investment span different areas of the live music industry: touring, festivals and promotions. Live Nation is working with each company to offer the appropriate resources, mentoring and support to help grow and develop the companies.

Tina Farris Tours is a touring company founded by Tina Farris that handles tour management for an artist roster including The Roots, The Internet, Anderson .Paak, Lil Wayne, Black Eyed Peas and Chris Rock. Her company also co-produces Roots Picnic, Broccoli City and newcomer Queensfest. Additionally, Farris launched a women’s mentoring group in 2016 called “Decades,” which has produced several successful events and conferences in four different countries. Farris noted, “Getting artists out on the road in front of their fans has been the heart and soul of Tina Farris Tours for over a decade, and I know Live Nation believes in this mission which is why I’m so honored to have their support.”

Conscious City Guide, co-founded by Mel Nahas and Kiki Falconer, is an online platform that identifies and promotes live events across the globe that foster awareness for the self, the community, or the planet. Conscious City Guide has featured more than 12,000 events since its inception and also offers ticketing for events. Nahas said, “As more people than ever seek out IRL experiences, Conscious City Guide is here to unite intentional creators and seekers so we can improve ourselves and our communities. It’s clear that Live Nation created the Women Nation Fund because they care about elevating the community through live events, and we’re extremely grateful to have their support.”

Kingdom of Mind, founded by Isabella Kelly, is an event production and promotions business. Kelly’s past promotions work has focused on secondary/tertiary markets in California and will be expanding moving forward to the Pacific Northwest. Kelly has produced benefit concerts as well as events for universities and colleges. Kelly added, “At Kingdom of Mind we’re curating unique events that bring talent to cities they might not have visited on a typical tour route. To have the world’s largest live entertainment company not only believing in, but also investing in this model is a dream opportunity and will help us create some incredibly memorable live shows for artists and fans.”

“We started the Women Nation Fund to help expand the pool of female entrepreneurs in the live music space, and this first group of female founders we are investing in is incredibly impressive, diverse and ambitious,” said Michael Rapino, President and CEO, Live Nation Entertainment. “By backing these women, we hope to help them grow their companies in new directions and set the stage for even more women to lead the future of live.”

Long Live Bookie, His Enthusiasm, and Now You Can Listen To His Music

0

Radio personality Dave (Bookie) Bookman, a champion of Canada’s indie music scene known for his fun interviews and encyclopedic knowledge of the industry, passed away late last month of a brain aneurysm. His influence at various stations, including over two decades at Toronto’s 102.1 The Edg and Indie 88.1 was unparalleled, and save for a brief mention to his own music in his obituaries, his bands Battersea Power Station and The Bookmen have been hard to come by online. Until now. Bandmate Tim Mech is planning on releasing songs from the two groups, and the first popped up on Soundcloud this week. Let’s hope there’s more enduring tunes shortly.

Trope released new video for Lambs and opening for King’s X in the UK

0

Originally from Vancouver by way of Montreal and Toronto, Los Angeles based Alt-Rock newcomers, Trope has unveiled a video for their first single, “Lambs” from their upcoming album, Eleutheromania to be released later in 2019 via Golden Robot Records.

Vocalist, Diana Studenberg shares on the single, “The first half deals primarily with bullying and the second half evolves into placing trust in people that only care for themselves but come across as innocent [Lambs] and the feeling of betrayal that comes from that. Lambs also addresses where one falls short in the expectation of returned kindness and accumulation of pain from its lack thereof and the cyclical damage to self that results from ignoring your own issues, behaviors, and facts presented, and subsequently projecting blame on to others.”

Linda McCartney: Wide Prairie To Be Re-Released August 2

0

Wide Prairie, a posthumous 1998 compilation of Linda McCartney recordings spanning the early 1970s through the late 1990s, will be re-released August 2 via MPL / Capitol / UMe.

The only album to be released solely under Linda’s name, Wide Prairie features Linda on vocals and various instruments on songs she wrote or co-composed and recorded with Wings between 1972 and 1980, the single-only ‘Seaside Woman’ / ‘B-Side to Seaside’ released under the pseudonym of Suzy and the Red Stripes, cover versions of classics by the McGuire Sisters, The Coasters and more, and solo work from the ‘80s and ‘90s including her final recording, ‘The Light Comes from Within’ (co-authored by and featuring Paul McCartney, as well as their son James on electric and acoustic guitar).

The album was recorded in various locations including Jamaica, Paris, Nashville and Sussex with contributors including husband Paul; son James; Wings members Denny Laine, Denny Seiwell, Henry McCullough, Jimmy McCulloch, Joe English and Laurence Juber; writer Carla Lane who also co-wrote ’The White Coated Man’ and ‘Cow’; Lee “Scratch” Perry and members of the Black Ark studio band Boris Gardiner, Winston Writer and Mikey Boo.

Two tracks from the release also highlight Linda’s interest in other art forms outside photography and music. ‘Seaside Woman’ featured in the Palme d’Or winning short film by Oscar Grillo at the Cannes Film Festival in 1980. ‘Oriental Night Fish’ also appeared in a short film of the same title created by Linda and Ian Emes.

Wide Prairie will be released August 2nd on limited edition white/blue colored vinyl and classic black vinyl, digitally and on streaming services. The reissue will mark the first time the album has been available on vinyl since its original 1998 release. The album is available for pre-order now.

To celebrate the first UK showing of the Linda McCartney Retrospective, the limited edition colour vinyl LP pressing of Wide Prairie will be available exclusively for one month prior to the album’s general release at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow from the exhibition’s July 5th opening. The major retrospective of Linda’s photography has been curated by Paul, Mary and Stella McCartney. [More information here: https://www.glasgowlife.org.uk/event/1/linda-mccartney-retrospective]
