March For Our Lives wins International Childrenās Peace Prize 2018
The March for Our Lives initiators, who started the American mass youth movement for safer schools and communities and against gun violence, have won the International Childrenās Peace Prize 2018. Today, on Universal Childrenās Day, David Hogg, Emma GonzĆ”lez, Jaclyn Corin and Matt Deitsch, received the prize from Archbishop Desmond Tutu during a special ceremony held in Cape Town, South Africa in the presence of distinguished guests and the world press. The International Childrenās Peace Prize is an initiative of the international childrenās rights organization KidsRights. The young winnerās message each year reaches millions of people worldwide.
During the ceremony, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, who has been the patron of The International Childrenās Peace Prize and KidsRights for more than a decade, said that March For Our Lives is one of the most significant youth-led mass movements in living memory. āThe peaceful campaign to demand safe schools and communities and the eradication of gun violence is reminiscent of other great peace movements in history. I am in awe of these children, whose powerful message is amplified by their youthful energy and an unshakable belief that children can, no must, improve their own futures. They are true changemakers who have demonstrated most powerfully that children can move the world.ā
David, Emma, Jaclyn and Matt co-initiated March For Our Lives alongside more than 20 other students, after their school was the scene of a mass shooting in Parkland, Florida this past February, with 17 fatal casualties. Personally affected by the tragedy, they responded by organizing the March For Our Lives event in the spring of 2018 to demand safer schools and communities and to protest gun violence. Hundreds of thousands participated in the rally and more than 800 sister marches took place that same day across the US and beyond. For David, Emma, Jaclyn and Matt, this was only the beginning. In the summer of 2018 the group took to the road, visiting 80 communities in 24 states leading discussions and advocating for the creation of safer communities. They lobbied, held town hall rallies, and motivated thousands of young people to register to vote. The March For Our Lives movement has continued to be highly vocal and very successful. Since its advent, over 25 US states have passed more than 50 pieces of legislation in line with their cause.
How one designer created the “look” of Jazz
Blue Note captured the refined sophistication of jazz during the early 60s, giving it its signature look in the process.
When asked to visualize what jazz looks like, you might picture bold typography, two tone photography, and minimal graphic design. If you did, youāre recalling the work of a jazz label that single-handedly defined the ālookā of jazz music in the 1950s and1960s: Blue Note.
Inspired by the ever present Swiss lettering style that defined 20th century graphic design (think Paul Rand), Blue Note captured the refined sophistication of jazz during the early 60s, particularly during the hard bop era, and gave it a definitive visual identity through album covers.

Rush to Release “Rush In Rio” on Vinyl on January 18, 2018
Following a nearly five-year break from touring, Rush returned to the stage in 2002 to support the trioās seventeenth studio album, Vapor Trails. During the tour, Geddy Lee, Alex Lifeson and Neil Peart played to some of the biggest crowds of the bandās career, including 40,000 people at the tourās final stop in Rio de Janeiro. That concert was released in 2003 as RUSH IN RIO, which was certified gold in the U.S. and Canada.
That live album was originally released on CD and DVD but has never appeared on vinyl ā until now. RUSH IN RIO will be available on January 18 via Anthem/ole label group as four 180-gram LPs. The set is presented in a heavyweight gatefold jacket and comes with a code that allows the music to be downloaded digitally.
The collection includes all 29-songs the Rock and Roll Hall of Famersā performed at the concert in Rio, plus two bonus tracks that were recorded at other stops during the Vapor Trails Tour. āBetween Sun & Moonā was recorded on September 27, 2002 in Phoenix, AZ and āVital Signsā was recorded on October 19, 2002 in Quebec City, Quebec.
Guitarist Alex Lifeson states, āIn all the years of touring, few gigs matched the energy we witnessed from the Rio audience. Throughout the night, they sang along to every song, which was quite a feat considering English is not so commonly spoken there. They even sang robustly during āYYZā and that’s an instrumental! In fact, during mixing, we often pulled the band tracks down and just listened to the audience and it was mind-blowing. We were all so surprised by the welcome we received and the deep connection our fans had to Rush. It remains one of the greatest highlights we’ve experienced in over 40 years of touring.ā
Making the show in Rio rare and extraordinary, fan favorites that are rarely played together on the same night were peppered throughout the set list. This included the sprawling sci-fi epic ā2112,ā as well as āCloser To The Heart,ā āYYZ,ā āFreewill,ā āNew World Man,ā āTom Sawyer,ā and āLimelight.ā One of concertās high points is Peartās drum solo, which is titled āO Baterista,ā Portuguese for āthe drummer.ā That performance earned the group a GRAMMY Award Ā® nomination for the Best Rock Instrumental Performance.
The songs that appear on RUSH IN RIO span the groupās entire career up to that point, including several tracks from Vapor Trails: āEarthshine,ā āOne Little Victory,ā āGhost Riderā and āSecret Touch.ā The remainder of the set list touches on most of Rushās studio albums, including 1996ās Test For Echo (āDriven,ā and a rare acoustic performance of āResistā); 1984ās Grace Under Pressure (āDistant Early Warningā and āRed Sector Aā); 1980ās Permanent Waves (āThe Spirit Of Radioā and āNatural Scienceā) and 1974ās self-titled debut (āWorking Man.ā)
Since forming in 1968, Rush has become one of the worldās most-popular progressive rock bands. Between its debut album in 1974 and its final large-scale tour in 2015, the band has sold more than 40 million albums around the world, earning 24 gold, 14 platinum and three multi-platinum albums.
