SpaceX Falcon Heavy Launch Video Set To David Bowie’s “Life on Mars”

0

When Falcon Heavy lifted off, it was be the most powerful operational rocket in the world by a factor of two. With the ability to lift into orbit nearly 64 metric tons (141,000 lb)—a mass greater than a 737 jetliner loaded with passengers, crew, luggage and fuel–Falcon Heavy can lift more than twice the payload of the next closest operational vehicle, the Delta IV Heavy, at one-third the cost.

Which is cool, but even cooler is they used David Bowie’s Life On Mars as the soundtrack to their promo video, showing the launch has a life force and a heart.

David Byrne’s Isolated Vocals For Talking Heads’ “Once In A Lifetime”

Now it sounds like Talking Heads’ lead singer David Byrne reciting a monologue, or shouting to no one in a darkened cave, slowly descending into madness.

Freddie Mercury’s Isolated Vocals For Queen’s “Somebody To Love”

You can find Queen’s Somebody to Love on the band’s 1976 album A Day at the Races and was also featured on their compilation album Greatest Hits, but now you can hear Freddie Mercury’s isolated vocals for the song.

And if you think about it, it’s one of the few rock songs on the radio featuring a gospel choir. Written by Mercury at the piano, “Somebody to Love” is a soul-searching piece that questions God’s role in a life without love. Through voice layering techniques, Queen was able to create the soulful sound of a 100-voice choir, with that of only three voices: Mercury, Brian May and Roger Taylor. John Deacon sat this one out.

Will.i.am Of The Black Eyed Peas Has It Pretty Right On The Future Of Music

You’re making wearable tech.
Will.i.am:
We’re making an operating system for wearable tech. It’s like … an ink company isn’t Rolling Stone. We just provide the fucking ink. So … we’re A.I. We’re O.S., A.R., V.R … and in studios; editing, recording, capturing both audio and visual.

You really seem to love the technological revolution that we’re going through right now.
Will.i.am:
2018, a whole new industry is about to jump off. New careers, new jobs, new technologies, new ways of expressing yourself. … You’re in the house, you run out of soap, you say something like “Abracadabra,” fucking genie’s in the bottle now. What we thought was fucking crazy with Aladdinthat you say something like “Abracadabra, shasazaram!” and some motherfuckin’ shit pops off and able to bring things to your home. That was myth 20 years ago. That’s real now! Some wand where Harry Potter said “Shazoomazips!” We’re not too far from being able to have some type of device — you say something and out comes a result. And, that’s exciting! That is the most disruptive, craziest place for creative people to actually create in.

When you look at tech — like Siri or Bitcoin — do you think of it as an inevitability for society or more of an entrepreneurial opportunity?
The thing that excited me about Siri is the backing thing that allows Siri to happen, and that’s TTS [text-to-speech] natural language processing. Whatever the interface is, whatever the experience is, that backing interface … that code, that algorithm … that’s what excites me. The potential of natural language understanding. Conversational computing. That’s, like, of course, that’s what everybody’s gonna be doing. Is it gonna be Siri? Is it gonna be Alexa? Is it gonna be something else? That’s not what excites me. What excites me is the tech to make that happen.

The Real Story Behind Green Day’s “American Idiot” Album

0

Green Day’s American Idiot is still one of the great albums of the last 15 years. It’s a concept album dubbed a “punk rock opera” by the band members, American Idiot follows the story of Jesus of Suburbia, a lower-middle-class American adolescent anti-hero. Through its plot, the album expresses the disillusionment and dissent of a generation that came of age in a period shaped by many tumultuous events like the Iraq War.

Polyphonic summarizes the stories and the overarching tale of the record. Check it out, and then go back and listen to the album.

Photo Gallery and Concert Review: Thirty Seconds to Mars with Walk The Moon, Misterwives and Joywave at Toronto’s Budweiser Stage

The Echelon was in full force at the Budweiser Stage in Toronto. Thousands of fans flocked to the amphitheatre, some from as far away as Edmonton to see Thirty Seconds to Mars as they kicked off the North American Monolith Tour. I have been a long time fan of Thirty Seconds To Mars and had the amazing opportunity to watch Jared surprise unsuspecting fans in the audience with ticket upgrades. I always love the interaction that Thirty Seconds To Mars has with their fans getting up close and making sure they know they are appreciated

The stage was dimly lit and fog slowly rolled across the floor, the atmosphere was set for what turned out to be an incredible evening. Jared came out from the shadows wearing a bright red three piece suit and a long flowing red jacket to match, the crowd screamed, the women swooned as Thirty Seconds To Mars started the night with “Up In The Air”.

The entire night was full of energy and stamina as Jared ran from one end of the stage to the other, even at one point waving a Canadian Flag. He announced to the audience that he always loves coming to Toronto. Jared and his brother Shannon shared the stage with fans not once but three different times throughout the evening. Jared brought up a 7 year old named Logan during “Rescue Me” and told him the stage was his. The young man danced around, a little shy at first, but as the song went on this little guy got more brave and busted out the moves.

This, being the first night of the North American Tour, Thirty Seconds To Mars was on fire complete with huge balloons that bounced off the heads and hands of the people below. There was many fans in pit waving their homemade flags with pride, dancing and singing in the cool night air.

The sounds of their new album “America” echoed through Budweiser Stage but they made sure they didn’t leave out the older favourites like “Kings and Queens” and “The Kill”. My favourite of the night by far is a song they have made their own “Stay”.

If you haven’t had the opportunity to see them live, I highly suggest you find out when they are coming to your area and go purchase tickets.

Once again thanks to the crew because without them there is no show!
