On May 18, Paul McCartney will release four 2018 edition catalogue reissues via MPL/Capitol: NEW, Chaos And Creation In The Backyard, Wings Greatest and Thrillington. All four titles will be issued in affordable single CD digipak and 180gram black vinyl single LP formats—and will be made available for the first time in limited edition 180gram color vinyl pressings. All vinyl LPs will include a download card.
Upon its release in 2013, NEW was lauded by Rolling Stone as “energized and full of joyous rock & roll invention.” Executive produced by Giles Martin and also featuring production by Mark Ronson, Ethan Johns and Paul Epworth, NEW entered the U.S. chart at #3. The album scored positive reviews from Entertainment Weekly to Pitchfork and all points in between, while the title track, “Queenie Eye” and “Save Us” would become staples of the McCartney live show over the course of the Out There and One On One world tours. NEW’s 2018 edition will feature the first vinyl pressing of the album since its 2013 release, including a limited edition pink vinyl 180gram vinyl LP with download card and 12×12” insert.
Released in 2005, Chaos And Creation In The Backyard was instantly hailed as continuing a hot streak that included Flaming Pie, Run Devil Run and Driving Rain. Produced by Nigel Godrich (Radiohead, Beck) and featuring the singles “Fine Line” and the Grammy-winning “Jenny Wren,” Chaos And Creation… debuted at #6 on the Billboard chart. It remained on the charts for nearly half a year, while Paul mounted the massive ‘US’ Tour. In 2007, “Jenny Wren” won the Grammy for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, while the album was nominated in three other categories including Album of the Year. The 2018 edition of Chaos And Creation… will make the album available on vinyl for the first time since its initial run and will include a limited edition gold vinyl 180gram vinyl LP with download card and 12×12” insert.
Originally released in 1978, Wings Greatest was the first ever compilation of Paul McCartney’s post-Beatles hits, featuring four classics that had previously been unavailable on any McCartney album: “Another Day,” “Junior’s Farm,” “Hi, Hi, Hi” and “Mull of Kintyre.” The penultimate Wings album release, Wings Greatest was naturally a worldwide hit, and the soundtrack to the 70s for a generation. As part of its 2018 edition reissue, Wings Greatest will be available as a limited edition blue vinyl 180gram vinyl LP with download card and 20”x30” poster.
Recorded in 1971 but not released until 1977, Thrillington remains one of the most enigmatic entries in the storied McCartney discography. Credited to the pseudonym Percy “Thrills” Thrillington, a fictitious socialite whose activities were chronicled in UK newspaper ads, Thrillington was actually a fully reimagined instrumental lounge/jazz version of Paul and Linda McCartney’s RAM. With Thrillington’s 2018 edition, Percy is given a new lease on life with this collector’s item available on vinyl for the first time since the 1977 first pressings that fetch hefty sums on the collectors’ market, plus a limited edition red/black marbled 180gram vinyl LP with download card.
While Sudan’s passing has rattled the Ol Pejeta family to the core, one positive side of this tragedy has been seeing many of you celebrate his caretakers. Sudan’s legacy lives on especially through the lives of those that cared for him on a daily basis. Fortunately, the world will have an opportunity to get to know these admirable men beyond just the pictures that have circulated around them over the last few years. The Last Male Standing is a feature documentary film that is telling the story of these men. The Last Male Standing is still currently filming but is expecting to be released in early 2019. Here’s the film’s trailer.
In September 1981, Stevie Nicks was sitting in Annie Liebovitz’s studio for a Rolling Stone photo shoot just after the release of her first solo album Bella Donna. While Nicks is having her makeup done, she starts to sing Wild Heart, and it’s beautiful.

SiriusXM announced today the launch of “Urban View Vote” – a nonpartisan, midterm election year voter registration campaign designed to raise awareness about voter registration opportunities throughout the fifty states. SiriusXM’s Urban View channel will roll out an “Urban View Vote” vehicle to tour multiple states – visiting college campuses, community centers, and other key locations where citizens will get the information necessary to have a voice and join the ranks of America’s voters. “Urban View Vote” will kick off on March 22 in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and will focus on the African American community and addressing voter disenfranchisement.
“This is a crucial time in our country’s history to register new voters, and Urban View listeners will lead the way,” says Karen Hunter, Urban View host and Programming Consultant, SiriusXM. “On Urban View, we don’t just talk about issues, we take action. Now more than ever, we want people to know their voting rights and to empower them to take an active role in their futures. Our hashtag – #10for2018 – reflects our goal that every listener will inspire 10 people they know to get registered.”
The launch of the multi-state tour, currently scheduled to visit Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, North Carolina, and Pennsylvania, will be accompanied by the debut of a voter registration information website focused on bringing clarity to the state-by-state voter registration process.
On April 12, Urban View hosts Karen Hunter, Joe Madison, “The Black Eagle,” and Sway Calloway from Eminem’s exclusive SiriusXM channel Shade 45, will participate in a town hall conversation with the students of Morehouse College, an iconic historically black college, where voting rights and voter registration among millennials will be the focus. Calloway will also broadcast his popular morning show from the campus.
Listeners throughout America can tune to SiriusXM’s Urban View channel 126 to hear highlights from each stop on the tour and for announcements about additional initiatives, Town Halls, and ways to get involved in the “Urban View Vote” campaign throughout this midterm election year.
SiriusXM followers can join the conversation using #10For2018. Listeners can also follow @SXMUrbanView on Twitter for updates.
An American treasure came to the Tiny Desk and even premiered a new song. John Prine is a truly legendary songwriter. For more than 45 years the 71-year-old artist has written some of the most powerful lyrics in the American music canon, including “Sam Stone,” “Angel From Montgomery,” “Hello In There” and countless others.
Widely recognized as one of the most creative and influential musicians of the 20th century, Jimi Hendrix pioneered the explosive possibilities of the electric guitar. Hendrix’s innovative style of combining fuzz, feedback and controlled distortion created a new musical form.
But try and find video of Jimi playing an acoustic guitar is a rare thing, indeed. Here’s a cool video of him performing Hear My Train Comin’ and Hound Dog
