Rob Thomas And Vntana Create The First Hologram Karaoke Experience

0

Social augmented reality company, VNTANA, today announced the creation of the first interactive hologram karaoke fan experience to go on tour with multiple-GRAMMY® Award-winning singer and songwriter Rob Thomas. As a part of the tour’s VIP Package, fans can select one of three songs to perform as a hologram duet with Thomas’ hologram, including the new single, Pieces from Thomas’ 3rd solo album THE GREAT UNKNOWN as well as other favorites One Shot and This is How A Heart Breaks.

Fan engagement is a key component in music culture and essential for artists to help create personal experiences for their fans, however, accessibility to artists has recently raised concerns and challenged artists to come up with new ways to engage with fans. Rob was keen to continue to offer his fans a one-on-one experience, and worked with VNTANA to create a virtual meet and greet that still offered close engagement.

What can fans expect to see during their HOLLAGRAM karaoke experience? Fans stand in front of VNTANA’s custom display and within seconds see their own hologram LIVE next to Rob Thomas’ hologram. As they both appear “on stage,” Thomas’ charismatic hologram invites them to sing a duet with him. After the hologram performance is done, each fan will receive a video of the experience that they can immediately share with friends and family on social media.

“Futuristic Karaoke! I always love to experiment with new technology and this is like nothing I’ve ever seen before,” said Thomas. “It’s going to be very cool and I’m excited for the fans to check it out.”

VNTANA wanted to use their technology to build something for Rob that allowed him to directly engage with fans in a way that has never been done before. “Rob and his team are always at the forefront of emerging technology, looking for ways to provide fans with one-of-kind intimate experiences,” said Ashley Crowder, CEO and Co-Founder of VNTANA. “Rob’s electrifying personality is a perfect fit with our technology and helped inspire us to create this unique experience.”

Thomas will be co-headlining his North American tour this summer with Counting Crows. The tour will kick off in West Palm Beach, FL on July 22nd, and wraps up in Nashville, TN on Sept. 30th. VIP Packages to experience the HOLLAGRAM Karaoke are available now at http://robthomasmusic.com/events.

New Order: Remastered And Updated Version Of “Singles” Compilation Released On September 9

0

One of the most celebrated back catalogues in British music history is set to be rediscovered when New Order’s ‘Singles’ compilation is released in remastered and updated form on September 9th.

‘Singles’ charts New Order’s finest moments, ranging from their 1981 debut ‘Ceremony’ through to the influential classic ‘Blue Monday’ and other career highlights including ‘Confusion’, ‘True Faith’, ‘Regret’ and ‘Crystal’ plus the chart-topping football anthem ‘World in Motion’.

A decade after its initial release, ‘Singles’ has been refined to become a greatly improved representation of the band’s history. The renowned Frank Arkwright (The Smiths’ ‘Complete’) at Abbey Road has remastered the collection with all audio sourced from high quality transfers.

In addition, ‘Singles’ adds ‘I’ll Stay With You’ from 2013’s ‘Lost Sirens’ album and replaces the correct single edits or mixes for the tracks ‘Nineteen63’, ‘Run 2’, ‘Bizarre Love Triangle’, ‘True Faith’, ‘Spooky’, ‘Confusion’ and ‘The Perfect Kiss’. The result is a considerable upgrade on the previous version of the album.

This new version of ‘Singles’ will be available on three formats: a heavyweight 180 gram 4LP vinyl box set, a double-CD and on digital/streaming services.

People prefer music to sex when it comes to curing the Monday blues

0

Spotify’s automated Discover Weekly playlists are a hit — over 5 billion songs streamed since mid-2015 — so now the streamer has commissioned an online survey to find out just how important music can be to people as they lurch-and-whine into a new week.

The results of the study, conducted across five markets by Ipsos, found that music (44 percent) was just as likely as coffee (46 percent) to be a respondent’s key motivator on a typical Monday. Music also bested food (33 percent), exercise (28 percent) and sex (19 percent) as a way to cure that case of the Mondays. Overall, an average of 64 percent of respondents agreed that they had too little motivation on Mondays. (We calculate that 100 percent of Spotify’s motivation for this study was to tout the benefits of its Discover Weekly feature. As well, the company’s media department is earning their pay — Monday study released on a Monday!)

Idris Elba Powerful Speech On Diversity In The Media Is Worth A Second Look

0

One of the country’s leading actors – Idris Elba – has said that the UK “the most successful, diverse, multi-cultural country on the earth”.

But the star of “Luther” and “The Wire” said there was one problem – you couldn’t tell that by what appears on our television screens.

“Are black people normally playing petty criminals? Are women always the love interest or talking about men?,” he asked.

Idris Elba was speaking at a parliamentary meeting organised by Channel 4 looking at diversity in the creative media.

“I’m not here to talk about black people. I’m here to talk about diversity. Diversity in the modern world is more than just skin color — it’s gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, social background, and — most important of all, as far as I’m concerned — diversity of thought. Because if you have genuine diversity of thought among people making TV and film, then you won’t accidentally shut out any of the groups I just mentioned.

“I was busy, I was getting lots of work, but I realized I could only play so many ‘best friends’ or ‘gang leaders.’ I knew I wasn’t going to land a lead role. I knew there wasn’t enough imagination in the industry for me to be seen as a lead.In other words, if I wanted to star in a British drama like ‘Luther,’ then I’d have to go to a country like America. Now some people might say, ‘But back then, Britain hardly had any black detectives, so how could you expect us to have a TV show about one? How could you expect the BBC to have the imagination to put Luther on TV?’Because it’s TELEVISION?!And the other thing was, because I never saw myself or my culture on TV, I stopped watching TV. Instead I decided to just go out and become TV. If I aspired to be on a level with the Denzel Washingtons and the Robert De Niros, I had to reinvent myself. I had to transform the way industry saw me. I had to climb out of the box.

“What all this taught me is too often people get locked inside boxes, and it’s not a great place to be. Ask women, they’ll say the same thing. Or disabled people. Or gay people. Or any number of underrepresented groups. So today I’m asking the TV and film industry to think outside the box and to GET outside the box. This isn’t a speech about race; this is a speech about imagination. Diversity of thought. Thankfully in our country, we’re free to say what we want. But we’re not as free as we think because our imagination isn’t that free.We can’t help putting people inside boxes, it’s a national pastime. Funny thing is, it’s not good for the people locked in the box, but it’s also not good for the people deciding what’s ON the box.

“The Britain I come from is the most successful, diverse, multicultural country on earth. But here’s my point: You wouldn’t know it if you turned on the TV. Too many of our creative decision-makers share the same background. They decide which stories get told and those stories decide how Britain is viewed. Even to ourselves. Especially to ourselves. Furthermore, how Britain is viewed on the world stage should concern all of us. It’s all our business. And that’s why everyone should care about our media industry — it’s the custodian of our global identity.”

Major Record Companies Dominate UK Radio Big Time

0

Just three of the 100 biggest tracks on UK radio last year were independently released, according to new MBW analysis – trailing significantly behind France and Germany.

Music Business Worldwide has crunched data from trusted global airplay watcher Radiomonitor based on impacts – the number of individual ‘listens’ a song enjoyed across all radio stations in 2015.

In Germany, there were seven independently-released tracks in the Top 100, while in France that number stood at an impressive 18 songs – six times as many as in the UK.

The three independent tracks to make the 2015 UK Airplay Top 100 were led, no surprises, by Adele’s Hello on XL/Beggars at No.28.

The other two indie tracks were both from Ministry Of Sound: Sigala’s Easy Love (No.39) and KDA/Tinie Tempah/Katy B’s Turn The Music Louder (Rumble) at No.78.

UMG claimed 44% of the UK Top 100, with Sony on 27% and WMG on 26%.

Alessia Cara Joins Troye Sivan On A New Version Of “Wild”

0

I’ve been playing this on repeat since it arrived this weekend. Troye Sivan‘s “Wild,” is a cool song already, but adding Alessia Cara breathes new life into the song.

Did you catch the new lyrics? Right as Alessia Cara‘s verse comes in (right after the 1min mark)?

We’re alike, you and I, two blue hearts locked in our wrong minds.
So can we make the most out of no time? Can you hold me?
Can you make me leave my demons and my broken pieces behind?
