0

Jann and Jon take on the JUNOS! As announced live on CTV’s THE SOCIAL today, CTV and The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS) confirm that Calgary native and JUNO Award winner Jann Arden and THE AMAZING RACE CANADA host and Olympic Gold Medallist Jon Montgomery are set to take the stage as the co-hosts for CTV’s broadcast of THE 2016 JUNO AWARDS, Sunday, April 3 at 7 p.m. ET.

Bringing a mix of wit and their renowned energy to THE 2016 JUNO AWARDS stage, Arden and Montgomery play host to an impressive list of performers, including Alessia Cara, Bryan Adams, Dean Brody, Shawn Mendes, and The Weeknd. With exactly one month to go before the big show, more talent announcements will be made in the coming weeks.

A beloved Canadian artist, Arden hosts the JUNO Awards for the second time, after previously taking the reins in Hamilton in 1997. In her career to-date she has received eight JUNO Awards including Female Artist of the Year and Songwriter of the Year, and is a nominee this year for Adult Contemporary Album of the Year for A Jann Arden Christmas.
A seasoned and charismatic host, Jon Montgomery is no stranger to the JUNO Awards, appearing in 2010 as a presenter after becoming a Canadian household name when he defied the odds, and nabbed Gold for the men’s skeleton race at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics. Now, he’s known to millions of Canadians as the host of the most-watched television program in the country, THE AMAZING RACE CANADA.

“I hosted the JUNO Awards almost 20 years ago and I am completely thrilled, shocked, elated and excited to be doing it again with Jon!” said Jann Arden. “It’s an honour to be a part of this year’s celebration of the best of Canadian music in my home town.”

“Being asked to assist Jann Arden with hosting the JUNOS is a bit sad actually…because when it’s over, then what?” said Jon Montgomery. “I might as well pack it in, because nothing could ever be cooler than this opportunity.”

“Jann and Jon are going to knockout JUNO viewers and the crowd in Calgary with their charisma, comedy, and great sense of fun,” said John Brunton, Executive Producer, THE 2016 JUNO AWARDS. “This year’s show is shaping up to be a memorable night in Canadian music!”

THE 2016 JUNO AWARDS airs live from Calgary on CTV and CTV GO at 7 p.m. ET/8 p.m. AT. Check local listings to confirm broadcast times and stations.

SXSW Announces President Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama as Keynote Speakers

1

South by Southwest is honored to announce President Barack Obama will appear as part of a Keynote Conversation at SXSW Interactive on Friday, March 11 and First Lady Michelle Obama will be the opening Keynote at SXSW Music on Wednesday, March 16. This marks the first time in the 30-year history of SXSW that a sitting President and the First Lady have participated in the event, which is known for showcasing the most innovative ideas and creative talent of our time.

Over the past 30 years, SXSW has become the premier destination to discover game-changing new technologies, films, and artists while networking with some of the brightest minds where ideas and topics converge to unite all industries and cultures.

President Obama will sit down with Editor in Chief of The Texas Tribune Evan Smith for a conversation about civic engagement in the 21st Century before an audience of creators, early adopters and entrepreneurs who are defining the future of our connected lives. The President will call on the audience to apply their ideas and talents to make technology work for us – especially when it comes to tackling big challenges like increasing participation in the political process and fighting climate change. In the lead-up to the event, The Texas Tribune will also source questions for the discussion from its online audience.

First Lady Michelle Obama comes to SXSW Music to discuss the Let Girls Learn initiative, which aims to break barriers for the 62 million girls around the world who are not in school today, more than half of whom are adolescent. The SXSW Music Conference brings the global music industry together and offers the perfect platform to celebrate Women’s History Month, as the First Lady provides her call to action to support girls’ education.

“I can’t imagine a better way to celebrate our event’s 30th year than to welcome both the President and First Lady to SXSW,” said SXSW Co-founder Roland Swenson. “As each new generation comes up at SXSW they look for ways they can be of service, and it’s important to reflect and support that message. President and Mrs. Obama’s visit here will inspire attendees to that purpose.”

President Obama’s appearance is open to all SXSW Interactive, Gold, and Platinum registrants.

First Lady Michelle Obama’s event is open to all SXSW Music, Film, Gold, and Platinum registrants.

More details regarding location, time, streaming, and access to both events will be announced in the coming days.

Phil Collins Reissue Campaign Continues With “No Jacket Required” And “Testify”

0

Phil Collins’ ‘Take A Look At Me Now’ retrospective campaign enters its third stage with the extended and remastered editions of his classic albums ‘No Jacket Required’ and ‘Testify’ on April 15th. The four albums that have been reissued so far – ‘Face Value’ (1981), ‘Hello, I Must Be Going!’ (1982), ‘Both Sides’ (1993) and ‘Dance Into The Light’ (1996) – have sparked a major rediscovery and reappraisal of his solo career.

The ‘Take A Look At Me Now’ campaign finds Phil Collins revisiting a career that can boast over 100 million sales and numerous worldwide #1 albums. His remaining two solo studio albums will also be released in the same format in the summer.

Entirely curated and compiled by Collins himself, his idea for the ‘Take A Look At Me Now’ concept is to examine how his songs have evolved over time, with the majority of the additional content throughout the series focused on live versions of the tracks. By contrasting the original studio versions of the material with later performances, the series demonstrates how Collins’ songs take on a life of their own once they’re freed from the confines of the studio.

Released in 1985, Collins’ third album ‘No Jacket Required’ topped the charts in the UK, US and numerous other countries all over the world on a journey that would result in three Grammy Awards (for Best Album, Best Pop Vocal Performance, Male and Producer of the Year for Collins and co-producer Hugh Padgham) and over 20 million sales. Mixing Collins’ trademark emotional ballads alongside strong funk and R&B influences, the album’s hit singles – ‘Sussudio’, ‘One More Night’, ‘Don’t Lose My Number’ and ‘Take Me Home’ – would also become staples of his live set in the years that followed.

Although Collins returned to the top of the charts in 2010 with the soul and Motown tribute collection ‘Going Back’, 2002’s ‘Testify’ remains his most recent album of original material. Perhaps his most low-key and reflective work as demonstrated with ‘This Love This Heart’ and ‘You Touch My Heart, ‘Testify’ nonetheless moves confidently into other territory with the escalating beats and rhythms of ‘Driving Me Crazy’ and the gospel-tinged title track. The album’s lead single, an interpretation of Leo Sayer’s ‘I Can’t Stop Loving You’ demonstrated Collins’ continuing ability to create hits, as it topped Billboard’s Adult Contemporary chart.

The remastered albums will also be extended with carefully selected demos and B-sides from their respective eras.

“I’ve always been quite proud of my demos and have often made them available as B-sides, but with a few exceptions, I have avoided including those on these collections,” says Collins. “Instead, I’ve focused on how nicely the songs developed when played on stage, rather than showing how they originated.”

As with the rest of the reissue series, ‘No Jacket Required’ and ‘Testify’ will be available as 2CD digipak and digital versions which feature the remastered album and the additional content, as well as the 180 gram heavyweight audiophile vinyl format which features the remastered album as a standalone product.

Each album in the series will be remastered by Nick Davis, who earned a Grammy nomination for Best Surround Sound album for his work on the Genesis ‘1970-1975’ box set. Davis has also worked on all of the Genesis retrospective reissues.  Each album features a bold new artwork concept in which Collins has recreated his poses from the original album covers with new photography that was shot in the present day.

I MOTHER EARTH Welcome EDWIN To The Stage For 20 Years of Scenery and Fish

0

When I Mother Earth ended their 8 Year Hiatus in March of 2012 they did so by putting a countdown clock on their website that expired just in time for the band to perform 2 sold out shows at Toronto’s Sound Academy. This time the band is turning the clock backwards…20 years back to be exact! On Friday, June 3, The Phoenix Concert Theatre will play host to the first appearance by the band with original vocalist Edwin after more than 18 years. The band will perform their critically acclaimed 2X Platinum album Scenery and Fish in it’s entirety as well as other fan favourites.

“We really wanted Edwin involved in revisiting Scenery and Fish this year, and we knew that some of the ideas we had would naturally benefit from having input from the people who were involved in our world at that specific time,” says band co-founder and guitarist Jag Tanna. “I initially reached out to Edwin just to see if he had any interest in being involved in a ‘Making Of…’ documentary. Well, the concept grew and here we are. This is really special for us. We haven’t performed together in 18 years, so this will be fun for the fans that have supported us since the beginning “

IME certainly has no shortage of concepts and ideas to commemorate 20 Years of Scenery and Fish throughout the remainder of 2016. Festival appearances, special releases, and “Evening with…” style performances featuring Edwin are currently being confirmed nationally. With IME’s current vocalist Brian Byrne pursuing other projects including a new radio gig, the timing seemed perfect for IME to explore new opportunities around such a formative release for the band. “We are very supportive of Brian pursuing a dream of his, while we embark on this very exciting journey to revisit an amazing time in our IME history,” says Christian Tanna, co-founder and drummer. “This will be a huge rush. We really can’t wait to share this with our fans!”
