The latest episode features GENIUS: ARETHA’s cinematographer Kevin McKnight, costume designer Jennifer Bryan and choreographer Dondraico Johnson. GENIUS is National Geographic’s critically acclaimed anthology series that dramatizes the fascinating stories of the world’s most brilliant innovators and their extraordinary achievements with their volatile, passionate and complex personal relationships. This third season will explore Aretha Franklin’s musical genius and incomparable career, as well as the immeasurable impact and lasting influence she has had on music and culture around the world. Franklin was a gospel prodigy, an outspoken civil rights champion and widely considered the greatest singer of the past 50 years, receiving countless honors throughout her career. GENIUS: ARETHA will be the first-ever, definitive and only authorized scripted series on the life of the universally acclaimed Queen of Soul.

Without knowing how to read music, Franklin taught herself to play the piano; at the young age of 12, she began to record songs and sing on gospel tours with her father. She signed her first record deal at age 18 with Columbia Records. In 1966, she moved to Atlantic Records, where she recorded many of her most iconic songs. In 1979, she began a 40-year friendship and partnership with Clive Davis, which produced a number of hit songs, including the highest charting and bestselling song of her career, “I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me),” a duet with George Michael. The legendary singer is one of the world’s bestselling musical artists of all time, with more than 75 million records sold globally during her career. Her voice was identified as a “natural resource” by her home state of Michigan.

The previously announced cast includes triple threat Tony®-, Emmy®– and GRAMMY® Award-winning Erivo as Aretha Franklin who will be performing many songs from Franklin’s rich catalogue; the Emmy-winning Courtney B. Vance (“The People V. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story”) as Aretha’s father, C.L. Franklin; Malcolm Barrett (“Timeless,” “Preacher”) as Ted White, Franklin’s first husband and business manager; David Cross (“Mr. Show,” “Arrested Development”) as legendary music producer Jerry Wexler, who guided Franklin as she developed into a confident singer and commercial success; Patrice Covington (“The Color Purple”, “Ain’t Misbehavin’”) and Rebecca Naomi Jones (“Oklahoma!,” “The Big Sick”) portray Erma and Carolyn Franklin, respectively, as Aretha’s sisters and frequent background singers, who supported and collaborated with their famous sibling; Steven Norfleet (“Watchmen,” “Dynasty”) as older brother Cecil Franklin, who stepped in as Aretha’s manager following her divorce from Ted White; veteran actress Pauletta Washington (“Beloved,” “She’s Gotta Have It”) as Aretha’s nurturing and loving paternal grandmother, Rachel; Omar J. Dorsey (“Queen Sugar”) as James Cleveland; Marque Richardson (“Dear White People”) as King Curtis, Kimberly Hébert Gregory (“Vice Principals”) as Ruth Bowen; and introducing Shaian Jordan as young Aretha Franklin, aka Little Re.

Aretha, inspired by Angela Davis and the Soledad Brothers, records her protest album “Young, Gifted and Black” in 1970. Despite Jerry Wexler’s uncertainty, the album is a success. Barbara Franklin makes a decision that has a devastating effect on Little Re in 1951.

AMAZING GRACE

CHAIN OF FOOLS

Wednesday, March 24, at 9/8c

As the Queen of Soul enters the age of disco, Aretha will do anything to remain relevant—including stealing an opportunity from her sister Carolyn. She receives a GRAMMY nomination but is ultimately snubbed from winning the award. While at the ceremony, she meets with Arista founder Clive Davis. Meanwhile, Jerry Wexler leaves Atlantic Records, and he and Aretha part ways.

NO ONE SLEEPS

Wednesday, March 24, at 10/9c

Despite significant emotional losses, including a second divorce and the death of her father in 1984, Aretha pushes herself artistically and triumphs. She begins a successful career at Arista, with the help of Clive Davis, and in an unforgettable GRAMMY performance in 1998, she solidifies her eternal reign as the Queen of Soul.

The series will feature many of Franklin’s biggest recordings and hit songs from the comprehensive Warner Music catalogue, including “I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You),” “Chain of Fools,” “Don’t Play That Song” and “Save Me.” In addition, the series will feature Franklin’s performances of “I Knew You Were Waiting for Me,” “Freeway of Love” and “Sisters Are Doin’ It for Themselves.” Additionally, the third season of the acclaimed anthology series features a number of well-known personalities who crossed paths with Franklin, including Dinah Washington, King Curtis, Clara Ward, Art Tatum, Reverend James Cleveland, Sydney Pollack, Angela Davis, Martin Luther King Jr., Curtis Mayfield and George Michael.

Millions of dollars worth of compensation are being paid to victims of public accidents

0

On our daily routine, we take a ride to our workplaces either with our own personal vehicles or by public transportation. We stop by our favourite coffee shops and grab a cup of coffee and a sandwich to start the day. Once we are at work, all the effort we’ve given is for a purpose to provide ourselves with a comfortable and stress-free life away from financial difficulties. Once the week is over, we reward ourselves either by visiting a shopping centre with our families or attending exciting organisations such as the Australian Open. All these activities mentioned can involve an unnoticeable risk due to someone else’s negligent behaviour. In the morning, a speeding driver can give rise to a collision, the coffee can be poisonous if the substances included in the coffee has expired or a workplace accident can occur. These are the occasions that can cause personal injuries and income loss due to these injuries and being off work.

Luckily in Australia, if someone else’s irresponsible actions caused the loss, these are compensable. For the injuries sustained after an accident in a public place, such as in the coffee house example, civil liability compensation may be awarded. If the accident occurred in the workplace, workers compensation; and if the accident occurred in the traffic, motor accident compensation are the victims’ legal options.

Catastrophic results of food poisoning outbreaks to mega-companies

Pioneer companies of the fast-food sector have been in financial trouble as a result of unexpected food poisoning incidents. Honestly, these outbreaks were totally preventable if necessary care was taken. Although many people experience food poisoning at least once in a lifetime, the more serious infections such as e. coli and botulism can lead to permanent disabilities to the victim. Especially, those with weaker immune systems and digestive systems can suffer critical health conditions. Pregnant and children are more vulnerable to these diseases; and even if the victim fully recovers, the process can be long and painful. Therefore, victims of these diseases can lose their income for a couple of months and their medical expenditures can be hard to deal with. As these diseases are totally preventable, the company that caused the harm will have to cover the loss of the victim. In Australia, businesses that are present in the food sector are mostly covered with public liability insurance. This means, the insurer will act on behalf of the liable business to cover the victim’s loss.

Breach of safety rules in the traffic

We all know how selfish other drivers can be in traffic. The structure of the traffic is very complex that even a small move can result in a chain reaction. Drivers should behave responsibly while in traffic as speeding and sudden lane changes can panic the other drivers. The traffic signs, lights and the other traffic regulations were built in a purpose to indicate the risk to the drivers if disobeyed. Breaking distance of motor vehicles at high speeds isn’t sufficient in case of emergency. A motor vehicle weighed over 2 tones can be lethal equipment at the moment of impact. This is why the drivers should obey these rules without any exceptions. In Australia, victims of motor vehicle collisions can request compensation from a third-party insurer to recover the loss. The extent of this compensation includes weekly payments in case the victim isn’t eligible to return to work, payments for medical expenses and surgeries and lump sum compensation payout depending on the case and the severity of the victim’s injuries.

Jackson-Triggs collaborates with Canadian R&B artist Emanuel to ignite a movement of change

0

Jackson-Triggs has partnered with Canadian R&B artist Emanuel to reimagine Jimmy Cliff’s Wonderful World, Beautiful People in a new, national commercial. The creative campaign, launched this week, marks the beginning of a movement of change, led by Jackson-Triggs.

Canada’s most awarded winery is embarking on a campaign for change to ensure communities that have typically been underrepresented, see themselves in wine culture from advertising to social content. This collaboration with Emanuel is a foundational element of this.

Emanuel, a talented Canadian artist who came into the spotlight last spring with his debut single Need You, and who recently released his new EP ‘Alt Therapy Session 2: Transformation’, is passionate about creating emotive music that celebrates Black culture and inspires hope and healing. This fall, Emanuel recorded his version of Cliff’s hit and a behind-the-scenes video was captured, providing a window to the soulful singer’s world. Ontarians who visit their local Wine Rack can find Spotify codes on their next bottle of Jackson-Triggs that will take them to Emanuel’s EP.

To help amplify even more voices, Jackson-Triggs is making a $10,000 donation to Nia Centre for the Arts, Emanuel’s charity of choice. Nia Centre is currently building Canada’s first professional arts centre dedicated to Black art.

“I’m really proud to be involved with this important initiative from Jackson-Triggs that’s centred on increasing representation for BIPOC artists in Canada. The message of the Jimmy Cliff song I covered for the campaign, Wonderful World, Beautiful People, was simple but powerful: “Take a look at the world and the state that it is in today. I’m sure you’ll agree that we can make it a better way,” said Emanuel. “I’m also honoured that Jackson-Triggs is donating to the organization of my choice, the Nia Centre for the Arts. There are so many wonderful charities and organizations doing essential work, but the Nia Centre’s support and dedication to promoting art from across the African Diaspora is really important to me. The fact that they are currently building Canada’s first professional multi-disciplinary Black Arts Centre is a game changer and I wanted to help contribute to that.”

Earlier this month, Jackson-Triggs opened the Artists You Should Know Series exhibit at its Niagara Estate Winery. This year-long art installation showcases the works of BIPOC artists in the Estate’s Great Hall. The first artist is Montreal-based Maia Faddoul. The artwork of Maia, and all featured artists to come, can be purchased at the Estate with all proceeds going to the artists.
