Recently named Billboard’s “Woman Of The Year 2020,” Cardi B made history with the explosive success of last summer’s blockbuster single, “WAP (Feat. Megan Thee Stallion),” available now at all DSPs and streaming services HERE. Currently certified 3x platinum by the RIAA, “WAP” debuted at #1 on the Billboard “Hot 100” upon its August release – Cardi’s fourth #1 single in the US, extending her record as the female rapper with the most #1 singles in “Hot 100” history and affirming her as the only female rapper to have reach #1 on the “Hot 100” in two different decades. The track – which went on to spend four weeks atop the “Hot 100” while also spending multiple weeks at #1 in Australia, Canada, Greece, Ireland, Lithuania, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom – made further history as the first #1 single on the inaugural Billboard “Global 200,” topping that chart for three weeks.

In addition, “WAP” shattered multiple records, including the largest opening streaming week for a song in US chart history (93M), the highest streaming first week by a female artist, and one of the top 3 hip-hop streaming debuts of all time. What’s more, the track confirmed Cardi as the first female rapper to have two songs hit #1 on Spotify’s “Global Top 200” chart as well as one of Apple Music’s most popular artists of all time, earning the platform’s highest ever debut by a female artist as well as the fastest song in Apple Music history by a female artist to peak at #1. “WAP” marked Cardi’s seventh #1 track at Apple Music – the most by any female artist in the service’s five-year history.

“WAP (Feat. Megan Thee Stallion)“ is joined by an equally popular official companion video, now boasting more than 335M views via YouTube alone HERE. Directed by Colin Tilley and featuring cameos from an all-female cast that includes Normani, Kylie Jenner, Rosalía, Mulatto, Rubi Rose, and Sukihana, the video also proved a record-shattering landmark, earning the biggest 24-hour debut for an all-female collaboration in YouTube history.

Hailed by the Los Angeles Times as “a savage, nasty, sex-positive triumph.,” “WAP (Feat. Megan Thee Stallion)” was a worldwide critical favorite, ultimately named as the “Best Song of 2020” by such top outlets as the BBC, Genius, NME, Pitchfork, Rolling Stone, and Uproxx. In addition, “WAP” has been honored with a range of awards and nominations, including the American Music Award for “Favorite Song – Rap/Hip-Hop)” and the People’s Choice Award for “Favorite Collaboration of 2020,” to name but a few.

Cardi B’s rambunctious spirit and brave tongue garnered instant online popularity, rapidly increasing her fan base. She has evolved into an entertainer, actress and a renowned rapper in just a short time. Cardi rose to rap success and fame, releasing her debut studio album INVASION OF PRIVACY in 2018. Cardi continues to be at the top of her game as the first woman with five simultaneous Top 10 hits on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart as well as the first female rapper with four Billboard Hot 100 #1s. Now a GRAMMY AWARD WINNING rap superstar, Cardi’s 3x Platinum selling debut album INVASION OF PRIVACY debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart. The album includes the 9x RIAA platinum certified classic “Bodak Yellow,” and all 13 tracks on Invasion of Privacy have been RIAA certified Gold or higher – making Cardi the first female artist to achieve this feat. Cardi’s single “Money” is now RIAA 4x Platinum certified, and her recent single “Press” is now RIAA certified Platinum.

Does Everyone Benefit? How Class Action Lawsuits Work

0

Class action lawsuits tend to make headlines, especially when they’re filed against major companies or renowned institutions.

For example, you may have seen the recent class action lawsuit brought against Sony because their new PS5 DualSense controller came out with defects–and Sony may have known about it.

Unless you’ve ever been involved in a class action like the rybelsus lawsuit, you probably wonder how they work. In the case of the lawsuit brought against Sony, who is going to benefit? Why?

Read on to learn the basics of class action lawsuits, why they’re filed, and who stands to benefit from them.

What Is a Class Action Lawsuit?

A class action lawsuit is a civil lawsuit filed against one entity on behalf of several individuals. It may be filed by one major representative, as was the case in the Sweet Law class action filed against UCLA, or it may be brought on by a number of people.

Lawyers lean toward class action lawsuits when too many people have been affected by the same or similar form of harm to file individual lawsuits. In the Sony case we referenced earlier, the lawsuit is filed on behalf of all consumers who purchased and received a faulty controller. The objective is to rectify this financial blow for every person who was affected by it.

The question is, does that really happen?

Who Benefits From a Class Action Lawsuit?

In almost all cases, class “membership” is automatic. That means that if the entity filing the class action lawsuit believes that you were affected by the harm they are addressing in court, they will consider you part of the case. In theory, you may not have to testify in order to receive damages.

Recovery from a class action settlement must be divided amongst involved parties. This is sometimes done evenly, although the amount may vary based on how severely each class member was affected. Ultimately, all members should receive some amount of the final settlement.

When Is a Class Action Lawsuit the Way to Go?

A class action lawsuit is a much more efficient way to seek justice for the harm caused to a large number of people. It is the right choice to make when the defendant is a large manufacturing company or retailer, a government agency, or a financial institution. A class action lawsuit gives you the numbers to present a strong case against a strong opponent.

The only pitfall is that with smaller class action lawsuits, you may receive a smaller amount of financial compensation than you would if you were to fight for justice on an individual level.

Will Your Case Make Headlines?

Now that you know more about what a class action lawsuit is and who it benefits, you can decide whether or not you have a class action lawsuit on your hands. Will your case make headlines? If it’s a class action lawsuit, it very well could.

Class action lawsuits often require quite about of PR on both ends of the spectrum. Browse our website to find out more about how to approach your own PR and take the narrative of your story into your own hands.

Roots Supergroup NEW MOON JELLY ROLL FREEDOM ROCKERS Vol. 2 Set For Release March 26 Through Stony Plain Records

0

Stony Plain Records announces a March 26 release date for New Moon Jelly Roll Freedom Rockers Vol. 2, the second edition of music from roots “super group,” New Moon Jelly Roll Freedom Rockers: Charlie Musselwhite, Alvin Youngblood Hart, Jimbo Mathus, the late Jim Dickinson, and North Mississippi Allstars members Luther Dickinson and Cody Dickinson (just nominated for a GRAMMY in the Contemporary Blues category for their Up and Rolling album). Recorded at the Zebra Ranch Recording Studio in Coldwater, Mississippi, the 11 blues-drenched tracks on New Moon Jelly Roll Freedom Rockers Vol. 2  give fans even more bang for their buck than the first volume’s 10 tracks of sublime roots music. New Moon Jelly Roll Freedom Rockers Volume 1, released in September of 2020, was greeted with universal acclaim and became a Top 20 Billboard and Top 10 Living Blues chart album.

Pre-order the new album here: https://stonyplainrecords.com/lp/vol2/

As on the first volume, New Moon Jelly Roll Freedom Rockers Vol. 2 crosses the generations of new blues-rockers and classic blues statesmen. It is a testament to the great experience and talent of these esteemed performers that they could casually conjure a recording of this quality out of the ether in a casual jam session — sounding as if you are right there in the room with them with between-song banter and commentary, the classic structures of the blues, being pulled together and teased apart by some of the most award-decorated members of the blues elite.

The New Moon Jelly Roll Freedom Rockers originated back in November, 2007, when musician brothers Luther and Cody Dickinson sat down for a guitar jam with ex-Squirrel Nut Zippers leader Jimbo Mathus, along with blues greats Charlie Musselwhite, Alvin Youngblood Hart and the late Memphis pianist, producer and all-around musical stylist Jim Dickinson gathered for a roots music extravaganza recording under the group name of the New Moon Jelly Roll Freedom Rockers.

For more than 12 years, those recordings’ existence was mentioned only obscurely in interviews, and referenced as a great old-school recording by those few witnesses. It was recorded live off-the-floor over several days, where the musicians all sat in one big circle in the studio and played quietly amongst the microphones, taking turns singing out in the room and improvising on the spot. Since Jim Dickinson’s passing in the summer of 2009, the recordings just hung out in the archives – waiting. When Stony Plain founder Holger Petersen heard about the sessions in 2019 and expressed his enthusiasm to release it, Luther Dickinson and his partner/engineer Kevin Houston finished the production of the albums.

“I was backstage at the Edmonton Blues Festival visiting with my old friends Charlie and Henri Musselwhite,” recalls Holger Petersen about the project’s genesis. “We were catching up and I told Charlie I was proud to have worked with Colin Linden and Luther Dickinson on a recent Stony Plain release, Amour. Charlie brought up the New Moon Jelly Roll Freedom Rockers sessions and that got the ball got rolling. He sent me the song list the next day and Luther sent me rough mixes shortly after that. I’ve been a longtime fan of everyone involved and have appreciated Jim Dickinson’s work and importance.”

The New Moon Jelly Roll Freedom Rockers Vol. 2 repertoire is a mix of righteous takes on such musical chestnuts as Doug Sahm’s “She’s About a Mover,” Junior Wells’ “Messin’ with the Kid” and Jimmy Reed’s “Can’t Stand to See You Go,” sidled comfortably alongside original songs that make for a beautifully soulful listening experience.

New Moon Jelly Roll Freedom Rockers Vol. 2 Track Listing
1. Blues for Yesterday (featuring Charlie Musselwhite)
2. She’s About a Mover (featuring Alvin Youngblood Hart)
3. Searchlight (featuring Jimbo Mathus)
4. Oh Lord, Don’t Let Them Drop That Atom Bomb on Me (featuring Jim Dickinson)

8. Millionaire Blues (featuring Alvin Youngblood Hart)

Singer/Songwriter FRANCINE HONEY Drops Emotional New Single, “I’m Coming Home”

0

Ahead of the release of her fourth studio album, Unfinished Business, veteran Leamington, ON’s singer/songwriter Francine Honey has released a brand-new single, “I’m Coming Home” — available now.

The emotional, three minute-spanning tune follows the bilingual Ontarian musician’s signature format as yet another blues-inspired country song jam-packed with a lifetime’s worth of raw emotion.

As suggested in the song title, the somber track is all about finally making the journey home after being away and missing it for so long. With the power and vulnerability of Honey’s voice, you might even think she wrote it, however, that was not the case.

That’s right, despite typically taking pride in writing her own music, the mother of two said that “I’m Coming Home” was actually written by a close friend of hers: Joy Newby. Other than the song being “beautiful,” “sad” and “lonely,” Honey said she decided to record the song and use it for her own album as it became such a sentimental tune for her and served as an important message for her fans during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The former civil servant described it as being filled with “hope and the promise of coming home.

“We all need that (feeling), since this pandemic has created such loneliness in everyone … right?” she adds.

Newby wrote the heartbreaking tune in 2017 at the end of a songwriting retreat in Italy with Honey and the musician Verlon Thompson. Honey recounted that day, saying: “(Joy) knocked at our door about an hour and a half before the concert and asked me if I would sing the song at the concert that night. We rehearsed it once in my room and then played it together as a duet with Verlon joining in.” Honey said the experience was “magical.”

Since her childhood, Francine Honey has been a keen songwriter. Over the course of the last seven years, she has released a plethora of singles and five studio albums: An Ordinary Woman (2009), Re-Drawn (2014), An Ordinary Woman (In Studio) (2015), To Be Continued… (2018), and her first official Christmas album, Take Me to the North Pole (2019).

The success of Honey’s music has taken her not only across Canada and the U.S., but to Italy, Switzerland and the U.K. as well. The artist’s music often features tales of heartache and hope delivered with a beautiful, yet subtle blend of Americana, country, rock, Canadiana and blues.

Vancouver, BC Singer/Songwriter KELE FLEMING Releases New Single Sure To Go Viral — ”The Latest Meme”

0

Canadian singer/songwriter and pop artist Kele Fleming has just released her latest single, “The Latest Meme” — available now.

Existential lyrics like “10 years on / So much is gone / Am I more weathered?” and “Age of distraction / What’s the attraction?” make it clear that Kele (pronounced Kelly) wrote this surprisingly upbeat and jazzy tune about the inevitability of coming to terms with aging and the overall struggles of staying adapted with the youth of the latest generation and their trends — the digital age, in this case.

“The Latest Meme” comes from the queer folk singer’s fourth and most recent album, The Song I’ll Write for My Whole Life (2020); the 10-track record marks her official comeback to the music scene, after nearly four years away.

The two-minute, 40 second-spanning track was written solely by Kele and recorded at Zed Productions in Vancouver, by studio engineer Sheldon Zaharko. Along with “The Latest Meme,” the two produced the rest of The Song I’ll Write for My Whole Life together between February and November 2019, before the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.

As well as Kele’s vocal and guitar work, her newest single (and album) features piano work by Ron Yamauchi, bass tracks by Aaron Trory (bass), Tony Lee on the drums and additional guitars recorded by Scott Fletcher.

Though she grew up in small-town Ontario before spending many years in Nova Scotia and Vancouver Island, Fleming made the decision to become a Vancouverite in the 1990s to pursue her academic career and the diverse avenues of music. While there, her professional career kicked off when she fronted as the singer for a haunting indie band by the name of Hazel Motes.

Her music has always been packed to the brim with complex sonic elements, tender lyricism and the utmost passion; in her work, she explores deeply personal themes which are always executed flawlessly.

Since the mass outbreak of the life-threatening coronavirus, Fleming has released a variety of songs from the brand-new album as singles, including “Compassion Machine,” “Coda” and “Sea in Me.”On top of The Song I’ll Write for My Whole Life, Kele has three other studio albums: 2004’s Song From the Tin Forest, 2010’s World in Reverse, and 2016’s No Static.

Experimental Downtempo Music Duo Anaté Release Somber New Single, “First Time”

0

Ahead of their forthcoming debut studio album, experimental downtempo duo Anaté have released a stunning new single, “First Time” — available now.

The somber pop ballad is carried by a groovy drum and bass track which is accompanied by the ambient sounds of violins and a bone-chilling vocal melody.

A collaboration between French singer/songwriter Ana and Italian music producer, Andrea, the duo met in early 2019 during a trip to Brussels and — after having the revelation of sharing the same musical vision — have been writing and recording music together virtually since then.

The name Anaté, comes from the singer/songwriter and face of the project — whose full name is Ana-Maria Teodorescu. After being trained in classical piano from a very young age, she’s always been involved in writing and performing music; she is currently based between Paris, France and Berlin, Germany.

Andrea — who’s currently living in Milan, Italy — takes care of all things production when it comes to Anaté. He performed as guitar player with several local bands from early 2000’s to 2015, when he decided to focus on producing local artists and writing own music.

Anaté’s overall musical style is driven and defined by an omnipresent downtempo style, however, covers a variety of genres sonically. This unique approach to music makes sense once you understand the duo’s shared music taste. They’ve named bands such as Massive Attack, Hooverphonic, Dido and Amy Lee as not only some of their biggest songwriting influences, but also as an inspiration for production.

Uncoincidentally, “First Time” was actually the first song written by Anaté, in 2019. Andrea crafted the initial beat which immediately inspired Anate to write a song about the dark side of being in love.

“Don’t we all remember that moment when we first fell in love?” Ana says. “It felt like the only people in the world were you and that person… That you were sharing your own little secret and every moment together was almost magical.

“Until reality hits — one or both of you either gave too much or too little,” she adds. “You gradually start falling apart, watching the love story come to an end.”

“When I sent ‘First Time’ to Ana, she answered back after a few hours saying she was ‘jumping on the chair’ in her office because she had the perfect melody and lyrics for the song,” Andrea recalls.

During the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the talented twosome also released their premiere single, “Confusion.”

“It talks about duality,” Ana says of the track. “It’s about the conflict between what we want and what we are ‘allowed to want,’ between who we are and expected to be… Between emotion and reason.

“We all experience moments of inner conflict like that,” she continues. “‘Confusion’ explores these contrasting concepts and invites us to embrace both.”

The song’s video was directed by the Argentinian Fausto Torelli Tulissi, and was filmed in Berlin. It explores duality in images, pictured as a constant back and forth between the heavy reality and a “dream world” — our inner world. It follows Ana’s journey to the point where she is finally facing and embracing herself.

Both tracks are a preview to the duo’s forthcoming debut album, Confessions. Featuring 10 tracks, the LP is described by Ana as a “journey that leads us to being who we are when no one is watching…

“Ten confessions shared as songs.”

Confessions will be available this June 2021.

Handle With Care: Toronto Blues Rock Powerhouse MELANIE? Says “Be Careful With My Heart” in New Single

0

There’s no question about it: Canadian blues rocker Melanie? says “Be Careful With My Heart” in this, her latest single.

Adding to her 500,000+ streams and counting, the new bluesy pop ballad is chocked full of emotion, tasty guitar leads and a simple, yet groovy bass line. It’s all par for the musical course for the Toronto-based artist (nee Melanie Goldman) who Clash Magazine recently described as “defiant in her outlook, staunch in her approach, and completely, utterly ruthless in her execution.”

Melanie? says her music has been influenced overall by not only a variety of classic rock legends like Robert Plant and Kurt Cobain, but modern trailblazers as well, such as Alabama Shakes, the Marcus King Band and the legendary Leon Bridges. The avid mental health advocate describes her overall sound as not just “rock,” but “blues,” “pop,” “growth” and “self-love.”

As a psychotherapist in training and an avid mental health advocate, Melanie? understands the importance of keeping healthy and staying productive during the COVID-19 pandemic, which is why she’s been focused so hard on making music for her fans.

In addition to that, she launched a fundraiser last May to help support the Unison Benevolent fund’s COVID-19 Relief Project by selling masks with her own logo on them. 100% of proceeds went to the cause and helped her well surpass a $10,000 CAD goal; to help out with the good cause, Spotify pledged to match every donation dollar for dollar and in the end, helped raise a whopping $15,000 overall.

Though Melanie?’s Masks for Music fundraiser is now closed, for those who missed out on the masks, they are still available to order via Melanie?’s GoFundMe page.

Prior to the Mask for Music campaign, Melanie? released 2020’s “Love Sucks” as a Valentine’s Day single for her fans. The groovy and infectious foot-tapping tune followed the release of the homegrown Ontarian’s 2019 debut single, “Yeah Yeah.” On top of that, Melanie? has a trio of demos for fans to hear on her official website.
