My Next Read: “Liberty: Life, Billy and the Pursuit of Happiness” by Liberty DeVitto, longtime drummer with Billy Joel

0

Hudson Music recently announced the release of LIBERTY: Life, Billy, and the Pursuit of Happiness, the autobiography of Liberty DeVitto. For thirty years, DeVitto was the driving force behind one of the biggest pop artists of all time. With his intense drive, endless creativity, and New York swagger, Liberty created the grooves for 13 platinum Billy Joel albums that have sold over 150 million copies, and wrote and performed the drum parts on 22 of Billy’s 23 top‐40 hits and all of his 6 Grammy‐winning recordings. He toured the world multiple times as one of the most well‐known drummers of his era.

The amazing success did not come without a price. This is Liberty’s story: a tale of an Italian‐ American kid who followed his dream and attained unimaginable success, only to see it crumble before his eyes, and ultimately experience a rebirth after passing through the fire of broken relationships, divorce, substance abuse, the death of a brother and a bandmate—and the pain of losing the persona the world knew as “Billy Joel’s drummer.”

In this compelling memoir, Liberty takes you back to his immigrant roots and ultimate settling on Long Island, a place he recounts in warm detail. He then traces a musician’s journey: early childhood bands, a rise through the local club scene, wedding bands, building a career, his first tours, and then a juggernaut of success, excess, and stardom with Billy Joel.

The making of each of Billy’s albums is recounted in detail, with specific memories from the recording sessions of every song on every album from Turnstiles through Storm Front. Liberty then shares stories from the production and tour for River of Dreams and the end of his tenure with Billy.

Liberty is a tale of following and fulfilling your dream, a love story of a drummer and his drum, and an inside look at the music and career of Billy Joel from the man who viewed it from the best seat in the house: the drum throne.

Snow Patrol And The Saturday Songwriters Announce ‘The Fireside Sessions’ EP Out August 21

0

Snow Patrol have announced details of a brand-new EP. Written and recorded during lockdown, The Fireside Sessions will be released on August 21 and is made up of five songs written with the band’s fans during a series of streams on Instagram Live dubbed ‘Saturday Songwriters’. In a nod to this collaboration, The Fireside Sessions will be released under the banner of Snow Patrol And The Saturday Songwriters. The EP was produced by Iain Archer. It will be released digitally and is preceded by the new single “Reaching Out To You” released today.

The band are partnering with the Trussell Trust Charity for the EP and all proceeds from the project will go to the anti-poverty charity. Speaking about how The Fireside Sessions came about, frontman Gary Lightbody says, “During lockdown I wrote a song each Saturday on Instagram Live. People from all over the world participated and each week there was 4 or 5 thousand people involved over the course of the hour: The Saturday Songwriters. They would suggest chords and lyrics and I would put them all together and add in a few of my own where appropriate but my unwritten rule was that there would be lyrics from a Saturday Songwriter in each line of the song. We did it for 11 weeks and wrote 12 songs together. It was a lot of fun.”

Completing the EP’s tracklisting alongside “Reaching Out To You” are “On The Edge Of All This,” “The Curve Of Earth,” “Dance With Me” and “Light Years.” The Fireside Sessions follow’s last year’s Reworked album, which saw the quintet offer up alternate versions of iconic tracks alongside some deep cuts. Reworked reached Number 3 in the UK charts.

The Trussell Trust supports a nationwide network of food banks to provide emergency support to people locked in poverty, and campaign for change to end the need for food banks in the UK.

Food banks have seen a huge increase in need for emergency support during the coronavirus outbreak. The Trussell Trust reports a soaring 89% increase in need for emergency food parcels during April 2020 compared to the same month last year, including a 107% rise in parcels given to children. The number of families with children receiving parcels has doubled compared to the same period last year.

Wherever possible, food banks are continuing to provide emergency support to people in their community in the safest way possible. Many have had to make significant changes to the way they work in order to protect the health of everyone at the food bank – whether that’s people who need the food bank, people volunteering, or people donating.

About the Trussell Trust:

  • We’re here to end the need for food banks in UK.
  • We support a UK-wide network of more than 1,200 food bank centres and together we provide emergency food and support to people locked in poverty, and campaign for change to end the need for food banks in the UK.
  • Our most recent figures for the number of emergency food supplies provided by our network: https://www.trusselltrust.org/news-and-blog/latest-stats/
  • The Trussell Trust’s food bank network brings together volunteers, staff and supporters of all faiths and none to make a difference. The Second Largest Retail Supermarket Kroger is now Hiring and is Willing to Pay you $7-$20 an Hour Along With Interesting Employee Benefits

0

If you want to apply really quick then hop on to Kroger Careers by not wasting any more time. A wonderful opportunity awaits you that might not come again anytime soon.

The COVID-19 situation has caused unprecedented havoc in the United States and people have started to lose jobs and will be followed by more in the coming time. The sheer suddenness of events has left American citizens to ponder upon what their future job options can be. However, some hope has been showered by the well-known retail supermarket called “Kroger.” They are hiring people for their supermarket for various job roles.

The supermarket giant has nearly over 2500 supermarkets all over the country and is associated with its subsidiaries and other multi-department stores. The headquarter of the company is located in Cincinnati, Ohio. The network of Kroger’s is way too broad as it includes food procession industries and almost 2000 pharmacies all over the United States of America.

What can job seekers expect from Kroger?

Pay Scale – Kroger has promised to pay $7-$20 per hour to work in a supermarket and if you have expertise or have a tag of pharmacists then you can grab a healthy pay of $59 per hour for working at their pharmacy. If you have a tag of a bagger then you may earn somewhere around $8-$10 every hour.

Weekly Payments Assurance – Kroger strongly believes that initiating employee payments by the end of month is an outdated policy. At Kroger payments are made weekly on Fridays.

Flexible Working Hours – You are allowed to choose any hours you want as per your convenience and flexibility. This is such an advantageous convenience for many people because some people have multiple jobs, kids to look after, and have other priorities which they can’t choose to ignore.

Paid Holidays – If you are a full-time worker at Kroger’s then you will get to enjoy the additional benefits of getting paid even on some leaves you take. This is a great policy initiative by Kroger’s because some leaves are always justified as they can be urgent and of emergency in nature.

Bonuses – Kroger is all in for celebrating bravery during crisis situations. For example- during this ongoing COVID-19 crisis Kroger is paying $150-$300 to their employees so that they can keep themselves full and healthy. Kroger values people who are putting on their lives to serve their stores during this ongoing pandemic.

Employee Health Benefits – The company is also providing health benefits such dental plans, vision plans, medical plans for all its employees.

Employee Discounts – Now if you are working at a place which sells ration and medicines then why can’t they offer discounts to their employees who work passionately for them.

Best of luck for grabbing a working opportunity at the one and only Kroger.

Doves Announce First Album In 11 Years ‘The Universal Want’ Out September 11

0

Doves recently revealed their first new music in eleven years with new track “Carousels” which received critical acclaim spanning Pitchfork, Stereogum, CLASH, Uncut and Under The Radar as well as radio plays with Sirius XMU, WXPN and more. Today, the band break their silence on new album rumours by announcing their long awaited fifth studio album, The Universal Want, set for release on September 11, 2020 through IMPERIAL in the US. Buoyed by refreshed chemistry, restless studio creativity and public reaction to their return, Doves have set free the album’s first single, “Prisoners”.

“Prisoners” is an unstoppable, driving tale of caution in a world of unending desire. Produced by Doves with Dan Austin and recorded at the band’s own Frank Bough Sound III studios in North West England, the high heat of its Northern Soul beat is fanned by wiry guitar breaks and cuts of ethereal noise contorting beneath layers of stacked vocals. A statuesque musical statement, “Prisoners” guides Doves’ second chapter to a peak now within touching distance, the lyrics contrasting to express unease with modern ills.

Andy Williams says of the single: “It’s about continually chasing something and not being satisfied when you eventually get it. You’ve got ‘that thing’ and you find you’re not any happier. Be careful what you wish for.”

Dropping breadcrumbs in rare interviews since they announced their return in late 2018, Jimi Goodwin, Andy and Jez Williams have remained reluctant custodians of their barely-kept secret of a new album throughout last year’s busy period of memorable festival and outdoor headline shows. Coming together to confirm themselves, once again, as an artistic unit for the first time since sessions ended on 2009’s Kingdom Of Rust, the cherished Manchester trio hint that The Universal Want has become an equally poignant and celebratory document of both time passed and time recouped.

“It’s definitely got the stamp of ‘the time’ all over it,” says Jez, when asked as to what lies ahead for fans who have waited patiently for over a decade for another record. “Everything on the album is an echo. It’s an echo of what we were going through at the time. Getting back together, the Royal Albert Hall and everything else.”

The Universal Want track listing:

1. Carousels
2. I Will Not Hide
3. Broken Eyes
4. For Tomorrow
5. Cathedrals Of The Mind
6. Prisoners
7. Cycle Of Hurt
8. Mother Silver Lake
9. Universal Want
10. Forest House

Dashboard Confessional Announces The Early Days Vinyl Reissue Series

0

Dashboard Confessional continue this year’s DC20 20th anniversary celebration by announcing The Early Days, a vinyl reissue series spotlighting the albums and EPs that defined the band’s formative years, and cemented singer/songwriter Chris Carrabba as one of the most vital voices that would reshape the musical landscape for years to come. The series kicks off with the first-ever vinyl pressing of 2001’s The Places You Have Come To Fear The Most, set for release on July 31st, 2020. A long-awaited vinyl re-release of 2000’s The Swiss Army Romance as well as a first-time pressing of 2002’s MTV Unplugged 2.0 will also follow later this year, and all will be available in multiple collectible, limited edition variants in addition to a non-limited edition run of standard black vinyl.

Two of the limited edition color vinyl versions of Places, in addition to black vinyl, are now available for pre-order HERE. The splatter color vinyl can be purchased only via the DashboardConfessional.com online store, while the cloudy orange and clear vinyl is available only via independent record stores, a community that has long-supported Dashboard Confessional. A yellow and blue vinyl, limited to only 1,000 copies, can be found exclusively at VinylMePlease.com, beginning tomorrow, July 10th.

The band has also announced an upcoming partnership with Mondo to release three EPs for the very first time on vinyl this year: 2001’s So Impossible, 2002’s Summers Kiss, and a newly created Spider-Man 2 EP. Mondo is an expanding enterprise with a passionate love of film, art, music and pop culture, best known for creating limited-edition posters, vinyl soundtracks, premium collectibles and games. Based in Austin, Texas, the team collaborates with an international network of talented artists and creators to produce the highest quality products inspired by licensed properties and original IPs. More details about the limited edition EPs will be announced later this year.

This year’s 20th celebration also included the release of Dashboard Confessional’s first-ever career-spanning compilation, The Best Ones Of The Best Ones, and their own installment in the Spotify Singles series (a reimagining of their breakthrough hit “Screaming Infidelities” and a cover of Post Malone’s “Circles”). After having to cancel the remainder of a predominantly sold-out tour of intimate rooms across the U.S. and Canada, Carrabba helmed a series of livestreams in late April. Most notably was the career-spanning charity show ‘As Social As I Get Now,’ which raised over $172,000 for the Music Health Alliance, a Nashville, Tennessee-based organization partnered with the Spotify COVID-19 Music Relief project, which matched donations dollar-for-dollar.
