They Might Be Giants Announce Additional Flood 30th Anniversary Tour Dates

0

Two-time Grammy winners, They Might Be Giants solidified their place as alternative rock legends with the release of their platinum album Flood, celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2020. In honor of the album that made them an international act, the band is performing Flood in its entirety in select cities across the US. The first leg of 30 spring dates sold out instantly, with additional fall dates announced today going on sale this Friday, February 28. West coast stops include Los Angeles, Seattle, Portland + more. The show is “an evening with” which sees TMBG playing two full sets with their barnstorming live band and features the show-stopping Curt Ramm on trumpet. In recent interviews with The Ringer, American Songwriter, and Spin, the band discuss the beloved album’s seminal impact on the pop and rock landscape and promise to deliver their captivating exuberance and head-spinning spur-of-the-moment improvisations to rapturous audiences. This September also marks the 19th anniversary of Mink Car, They Might Be Giants’ notorious “lost” album, and the band will perform all of their favorite tracks on select dates along with crowd-pleasers old and new.

Additionally, a special Flood picture disk re-issue is available now, featuring original album cover art as well as a brand new animated psychedelic zoetrope image of TMBG ephemera created by Paul Sahre. In August, TMBG offered up a special limited edition benefit t-shirt with 100% of profits going to RAICES, a Texas legal team aiding separated families and detained minors seeking asylum in the US. Through the generosity and passion for the cause of Jeff Lawson, the founder of Twilio who offered to match any funds raised by the band, they raised a total of $200,000.

TMBG started with a Dial-A-Song service, powered by a lone phone machine out of their Brooklyn apartments. Since then they have made 22 albums, and have secretly infiltrated your TV with original themes and incidental music to numerous shows and commercials. Catch the band live in a city near you and stay tuned as they work feverishly to complete that elusive 23rd album.

Bachman Cummings Announce Cross-Canada Tour

0

Canada’s most celebrated musicians and songwriters Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings announced today a cross-Canada reunion tour entitled, Together Again, Live In Concert. Bachman and Cumming return to the stage for this reunion tour for the first time in more than a decade. Together Again, Live In Concert will celebrate the music of The Guess Who, Bachman Turner Overdrive and Burton Cummings. The tour will kick off on June 11th in Windsor and conclude on July 29th in Montreal, full details listed below.

Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings have written some of the greatest songs of the last 50 years. Together theirs is undoubtedly the Great Canadian Songbook.

These Eyes, Laughing, Undun, No Time, American Woman, No Sugar Tonight, Hand Me Down World, Share The Land, Albert Flasher, Follow Your Daughter Home, Glamour Boy, Star Baby, Clap For The Wolfman, Let It Ride, Takin’ Care Of Business, You Ain’t Seen Nothin’ Yet, Hey You, Looking Out For #1, Stand Tall, I’m Scared, My Own Way To Rock, Break It To Them Gently, Fine State of Affairs, You Saved My Soul – and that’s only some of the dozens of gold and platinum hits between them.

To coincide with the reunion tour Together Again, Live In Concert, Sony Music Canada will release a limited edition Bachman Cummings box set in June 2020. The Bachman Cummings Collection includes five Guess Who albums from the formative 1969-1971 period—including; Canned Wheat, American Woman, and Share the Land—alongside material from both Bachman Turner Overdrive and Burton Cummings. This 7CD or 7LP set will also include an expanded booklet of rare and never published publicity, studio, and master tape photographs as well as detailed label copy and notes. Both LP and CD boxes will be available to pre-order soon.

Members of the Canadian Music Hall of Fame, Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, Canadian Broadcasters Hall of Fame, the Canadian Walk of Fame, the first ever inductees into the Prairie Music Hall of Fame, recipients of the Order of Canada, the Order of Manitoba, the Governor-General’s Performance Arts Award and several Broadcast Music Industry awards for over 1 million airplays, Randy Bachman and Burton Cummings made Canadian music international paving the way for every Canadian artist who followed.

After the phenomenal success of the much-heralded four-year Guess Who reunion, Bachman – Cummings decided in 2005 that the time was right to finally go out under their own names. “We’re the two guys who wrote and sang these songs and I think people know that and want to hear the real thing,” insists Burton Cummings. “Bachman – Cummings are out there delivering that. Not all artists are lucky enough to have that kind of staying power. As Bachman – Cummings, Randy and I are able to touch Guess Who, BTO and Cummings solo stuff. The response from audiences was even more than we could ever have hoped for.”

Bachman – Cummings starred in their own top-rated CBC television concert special First Time Around (later released on DVD) and followed that with the platinum-selling album The Bachman Cummings Songbook in 2006 marking the first ever pairing of their Guess Who, BTO and Cummings solo hits on one package. In 2007 Jukebox found the two digging through their own record collections to affectionately cover their personal favourite songs from bygone years.

“We are having more fun now,” states Randy. “There is a lot of love and respect for each other. Working together with Burton again musically is like riding a bike, easy and fun, but with everyone clapping along as we do it.”

Singer/Songwriter Craig Dougan Finds a New Muse in Nunavut for New Single, “Iqaluit” — Available Now!

0

Kitchener-based indie rock singer/songwriter Craig Dougan harkens the daily experience of some 7,000 people who call Nunavut’s remote capital home in his newly minted single, “Iqaluit” — available now!

“The music was done first, and the lyrics came after,” he recalls of the songwriting process. “The video essentially became a storyboard for the song.”

Inspiration and the songwriting process was almost meditative in its origins for Dougan this time around, with the subject matter coming to him with a sense of ease — eyes closed, quiet on his couch. “I went into a deep concentration and kept asking myself, ‘what should I write about?’” he shares. “A few minutes later, the word ‘Nunavut’ popped into my head.”

From there, the song started to spring to life, taking on the feeling of a research project as he dove headfirst into learning the lighter side of day-to-day life for the residents of Canada’s northernmost capital city.

For his part, Dougan hails from considerably south by (slight) west from his song’s geographical muse; primarily based in Kitchener, Ontario, the seasoned performer has made a familiar name for himself within the surrounding music scene through his long-running Tragically Hip tribute band, The Almost Hip.

“Iqaluit” is Dougan’s premiere single for 2020, and lands on the heels of 2017’s sophomore LP Still Rising, and 2015’s debut, Hard Rock Rising.

“Iqaluit” is available now.

From the Straits to the Stage: Toronto Poor Boy is “Stronger Now”

0

Canadian hip hop artist Toronto Poor Boy is back with a new single, still inspiring listeners and calling on his complex past with a fire new track, “Stronger Now” — available now.

“It’s a message that’s very personal to me,” the Toronto-based rap master says of the track. “It brings the new decade’s energy into focus, and talks about the struggles to become the best version of yourself.”

“It’s about being proud in the present as we look towards building the future.”

With 300,000+ total views across YouTube and radio airplay throughout Toronto, Australia and the UK, Toronto Poor Boy’s “Stronger Now” is next up, ahead of his forthcoming debut studio album, available this spring via Canyon Entertainment Group.

Hot on the heels of his late 2019’s single release, “Karma,” and 2020’s kick-off with “Big Dreams,” “Stronger Now” continues to amplify the Jamaican-born entertainer’s dynamic blend of hip hop, rock and reggae, while drawing audiences to his magnetic online presence full of original comedy skits.

“Stronger Now” is something of a mantra when it comes to Poor Boy’s own story and path; born in Jamaica into poverty, he was raised in group and foster homes throughout Toronto from the time he immigrated to Canada as a young teen, to the point of legal age and when he was released on his own.

It’s this come up — from straits to the stage — that magnify Toronto Poor Boy’s achievements in working hard to pursue his dream of writing and performing. It’s his personal struggle — the loneliness of not having a family, the experience of navigating life far back from the ‘starting line,’ and the quest to stay out of trouble— that create such a rich and dynamic storytelling within the rapper’s music.

Poor Boy’s music is very much a reflection of his complex identity; “I’m very much two people,” he says. “Not innocent or bad, but both parts exist simultaneously.”

“Ultimately, it’s my goal to inspire those in my community. My message to everyone is to never give up, and keep working on those ‘Big Dreams.’”

“Stronger Now” is available now.

Tips on Writing a Music Analysis Essay

0

If you’re not good at music but have to write a music analysis essay, you are in trouble. Getting an essay for sale from CustomWritings written from scratch by academic experts is the best, if not the only solution you have.

The significance of music has affected the academic industry, as well, encouraged writers to explore its elements by mentioning them in essays. But your lack of competence in this subject matter makes you turn to a custom writing service such as CustomWritings.com for professional assistance. If you decide to write your music analysis essay on your own, you just need the proper guidance. Creating a high-quality paper that contains an in-depth look into a certain song is a challenging task. So, this article will show you how to succeed in this academic mission.

1. Get Familiar with the Song

In academic writing, a music analysis should be based on thorough research studying a piece of music. Before you get into details, you need to catch the idea, message, rhythm, and melody of the song. By trying to understand all these details, you will have to listen to the song more than once or twice. An appropriate understanding of the song is enabled through scrutinizing its lyrics. Try to focus on this special part of the song by exploring its mood, main message, and accent.

2. Conduct Research

Now, when you have caught the concept of the song, it’s time to explore its background, as well as search for theoretical details on the subject matter of your essay. Get familiar with the most significant facts about the song, namely its background, critical review, and mentioning in the signer’s interviews. You also need to discuss the resources containing the information on the music theory that would be useful for your analysis. Don’t forget that it is crucial to distinguish trustworthy sources from doubtful ones when proceeding with your research.

3. Create a Well-Structured Outline

After you collect all the necessary information about the particular topic, it’s highly recommended for you to establish a plan. This needs to be done to define the structure of your paper and include all the significant elements in a smart, clear, and coherent way. When completing an outline, you need to think of how you can organize the details you collected from the song itself and the details you collected from your investigation.

4. Specify Technical Nuances

Apart from the core facts about the song you should base your essay on, it’s important to involve the technical details about the piece of music. Mention the composer’s name, his or her credentials, the date of song’s creation, the genre and style specificities, as well as the label it was released under. Don’t focus the whole content on these details, so you should write one abstract to this detail.

5. Mention the Artistic Value of the Song

While you are writing a music analysis essay, you should remember the fact that it is an academic paper. Thus, it makes you stick to its strict policies, so you shouldn’t mistakenly limit the analysis to its scientific aspects. And this is quite an erroneous rule to stick to. A music product is considered to be a work of art that determines the significance of a music analysis through the principle of aesthetic value. You should make sure that you consider the “celestial” nuances of the song without focusing on the “corporeal” concept of exploring it in your paper. Highlight the unique function of the melody in the song, as it plays a crucial role in conveying the main message and determine the link between the melody and the lyrics. This way, you can demonstrate how their correlation determines both the euphonic and semantic unity of the song.

Closing Note

Writing a music analysis essay is not an easy thing to do. Compared to some other essays, this type of academic paper requires specific knowledge and skills. Otherwise, you have the risks of sounding like an amateur in the music industry. Meanwhile, your professor expects to see your ability to conduct an in-depth analysis of music pieces. Thanks to CustomWritings.com, your chances of getting an excellent grade for this assignment become super high. The experts of this writing service have enough qualification and experience to create original and high-quality content at a relatively cheap price. By getting an inspiration from the world of music, they know how to create something worthy. Easily, they will make your academic work reflect on music. And this is something that encourages you to master music analysis essays in order to create them in the future on your own. This way, you increase your ability to learn the intellectual trends of the modern music sector!

Prince Estate Announce Next Wave of Physical Titles in Definitive Prince Catalog Reissue Project arriving Friday, April 17

0

The Prince Estate and Legacy Recordings, a division of Sony Music Entertainment, are pleased to announce the first round of physical titles to be issued in 2020 in the ongoing definitive Prince catalog reissue project. These titles come from the incredibly intriguing and fertile period of 2001 and 2002 and will be available on Friday, April 17.

The new batch includes two very different studio albums released just six months apart—2001’s The Rainbow Children and 2002’s One Nite Alone… – plus Prince’s first official live albums from the tour that occurred in between those two releases. One Nite Alone…, the 4 LP set One Nite Alone…Live! and the double LP One Nite Alone: The Aftershow…It Ain’t Over! will each get their first-ever vinyl release in limited-edition purple, while sought-after title The Rainbow Children will be available on CD for the first time in decades and on a crystal-clear double LP with limited-edition custom rainbow slipmat.

In addition, the five disc collection Up All Nite with Prince: The One Nite Alone Collection will make the CDs for these sought-after releases widely available for the first time. Combined in a beautiful slipcase with a 48-page bound book, One Nite Alone… and the two live albums are packaged with the long-out-of-print bonus DVD Prince Live at The Aladdin Las Vegas for an amazing document of the musical breadth of early 21st century Prince.

Prince’s 24th studio album, The Rainbow Children was initially sold on Prince’s trailblazing website the NPG Music Club, and was commercially released on November 20, 2001 on NPG Records. It was the first album (outside of the works he distributed through his NPG Music Club) to be released under the name Prince since he had changed his name to an unpronounceable symbol in 1993, and it was his first fully independent release to be issued without any major label backing. The Rainbow Children is a concept album intertwining Prince’s recurring themes of spirituality and sexuality, love and social consciousness, set in a metaphoric utopian narrative. Musically, the album showcased a new jazz-influenced direction for Prince, with live drums and expansive horn charts. The album’s original cover artwork – the Cbabi Bayoc painting “The Reine Keis Quintet” – holds a place of honor at Prince’s Paisley Park to this day, and is displayed in his NPG Music Club Room. One of the songs from The Rainbow Children, “The Work, Pt. 1,” was released by Prince as a free download on the controversial file-sharing service Napster; this move, along with direct-to-consumer (D2C) streaming and download options on the NPG Music Club, solidified Prince’s reputation as a digital music pioneer.

Prince’s 25th studio album, One Nite Alone…, was released on May 14, 2002 by NPG Records and features the artist singing and accompanying himself on piano, making only occasional use of other instruments. The album includes favorites like “U’re Gonna C Me” and a cover of “A Case Of U,” written by one of Prince’s biggest musical influences, Joni Mitchell. One Nite Alone… was initially released as a gift to members of the NPG Music Club, and was available as a separate album and included in the limited edition One Nite Alone… Live! box set. While One Nite Alone… was never sold in stores, it became a highly-desirable release. Original CD copies are collectible rarities, and many fans have only heard the album through MP3 file-sharing. One Nite Alone… will be released as a single LP pressed on purple vinyl.

Between the release of The Rainbow Children and One Nite Alone… , Prince embarked on his One Nite Alone… Tour, which countered the solo intimacy of his album with an electrifying series of live concerts showcasing the full talents of Prince’s ever-expanding New Power Generation band, featuring backing musicians Sheila E., Maceo Parker, Eric Leeds, Candy Dulfer, Greg Boyer, Renato Neto, John Blackwell, and Rhonda Smith. Comprised of transcendent highlights from nine different shows in March and April 2002, One Nite Alone… Live! was the first official live album of Prince’s career, and clocks in at more than 2 hours. The 27 tracks include selections from The Rainbow Children (“Muse 2 The Pharaoh,” “1+1+1 Is 3”) as well as journeys through Prince’s extensive back catalog, played with the full NPG as well as several solo piano excursions (“When U Were Mine,” “Raspberry Beret,” “Adore,” “The Beautiful Ones,” “Nothing Compares 2 U”). One Nite Alone… Live! will be released as 4LPs pressed on purple vinyl.

One Nite Alone… The Aftershow: It Ain’t Over! will also be available for the first time as a 2LP set, pressed on purple vinyl. One Nite Alone… The Aftershow includes highlights from three of Prince’s epic late-night aftershow performances. Previously unavailable as a physical stand-alone release, One Nite Alone… The Aftershow was originally released on CD as part of the One Nite Alone… Live! box set. The album features an hour of amazing jams and includes guest appearances by George Clinton and Musiq Soulchild.

In addition to making Prince Live at The Aladdin Las Vegas physically available as part of the Up All Nite with Prince set, Legacy Recordings will also roll out individual music videos for songs from Prince Live at The Aladdin Las Vegas on digital services from February 20 through April 17. Featuring largely the same line-up from One Nite Alone…Live! (plus guest vocalist Nikka Costa), the setlist includes favorites from The Rainbow Children (“1+1+1 Is 3,” “The Everlasting Now”) plus killer Prince deep cuts (“Strange Relationship,” “Gotta Broken Heart Again,” “Pop Life”) and even covers of James Brown (“Pass The Peas”) and Led Zeppelin (“Whole Lotta Love”).
