Third Man Records Releases “Vault Package 43: The Raconteurs Live In Tulsa”

0

“This is my favorite place to play in the world.”

A more-fitting sentiment we cannot conjure and is the perfect stage banter quote from Jack White to introduce the triple-LP live recording culling the best of the best from the Raconteurs recent three night stand at the legendary Cain’s Ballroom in Tulsa, Oklahoma from October 2019.

As the Raconteurs are allegedly the first band to ever sell out three consecutive shows at Cain’s Ballroom, it was only fitting to mark the occasion by recording each night, culling only the best of each of those performances, and fusing them together for a career-spanning, masterwork of an album.

Highlighting recent entries in their catalog like the infectious “Help Me Stranger” and the whirling “Bored and Razed” while paying deference to momentous sing-alongs like “Carolina Drama” and “Steady, As She Goes” to absolutely mind-bending, room-levitating blues expression via “Blue Veins” and even then you’re only just scratching the surface.

Captured at the pinnacle of the band’s touring behind their chart topping album Help Us Stranger, the electrifying live performances place a raw, unbound energy behind the entire breadth of the band’s catalog, including gems from their 2008 LP Consolers of the Lonely and their 2006 debut Broken Boy Soldiers.

Housed in a magnificent tri-fold jacket and appropriating the Matthew Jacobson-designed artwork which highlights the Art Deco frieze of the Tulsa Fire Alarm building (which was used for the three Cain’s concert posters) and pressed on vibrant copper, green and black colored vinyl…the whole shebang is truly something to behold.

The fitting companion piece to this explosive 3xLP is the intimate performance of Raconteurs’ dual frontmen Brendan Benson and Jack White performing as a duo on July 9th 2019.

Shot at Third Man Records Cass Corridor storefront on White’s 44th birthday, the jam-packed room still only fitting 300 attendees, Brendan and Jack laid out sparse, explorative takes on not only Raconteurs songs, but other classics from their expansive back catalogs. Performances of Raconteurs faves like “Only Child” and “Now That You’re Gone” sound unlike any other version before or since, while the vibe propelling songs like the White Stripes “Sugar Never Tasted So Good” or Benson’s “Metarie” are reminiscent of times back when these two guys would just goof around in Detroit dive bars while a handful of uninterested patrons pretended to not be bothered by their racket.

About that…as a bonus to the mutli-camera, HD, Blu-Ray, 4k, 16-channel audio with super crystal clear capture of the above-mentioned performance, it felt fitting to tack on the ultra lo-fi, camcorder and condenser microphone capture of the first-ever performance of Jack White and Brendan Benson together. Playing for free at the Garden Bowl Lounge in Detroit on March 14th, 1999, the gig shows the two as if without a care in the world, having a blast and rolling through songs of which only TWO had been released by that point. An intimate, charming artifact of a simpler time.

And for the record, Pink Floyd’s “Fearless” was performed at BOTH of these shows, twenty years apart but no less magnificent.

For something a little bit different, we are offering a MYSTERY Raconteurs flexi-disc as our bonus item in this package. Let the speculation begin!

Theory Releases New Single “Strangers” Addressing America’s Political Divisiveness

0

Multi-platinum band THEORY (Theory Of A Deadman) has released their new single “Strangers” from their forthcoming studio album Say Nothing, out January 31st. Addressing the current tense state of American politics and the divisive nature of our culture, “Strangers” strikes a chord with its thought-provoking prose, calling out how nasty it has become between those with differing political affiliations and our society’s increasing inability to openly listen and relate to one another. On Say Nothing, THEORY is speaking up through timely lyrical commentary that finds the band’s finger on the pulse of the current climate and the issues that our society is grappling with today, threaded together with a message that’s both a cautionary warning and a hopeful wish for our collective future.

“‘Strangers’ talks about American politics and the divisiveness our country is facing right now,” shares lead vocalist and songwriter Tyler Connolly. “It was inspired by the continuous onslaught of tragedies that keep happening. On this song, I’m not trying to speak from a perspective of bias, I just can’t figure out why we can’t all do it together. We need to come together instead of pitting against one another. We hope the song serves as a bit of a wake-up call. We’ve become so desensitized to it all that I think it’s imperative for us to start talking about these kinds of things in our music.”

“Strangers” is the follow-up to Say Nothing’s lead single “History Of Violence,” which has already racked up more than 2 million collective streams, is currently #13 and rising at Active Rock Radio, and has been featured on key playlists across Spotify, Apple Music and Amazon Music, including Spotify’s New Music Friday. Telling a gripping story that turns the tables on domestic violence, the video for “History of Violence” illustrates a searing snapshot of a woman enduring an abusive husband as she plans to fight back, eventually ending up in jail but free of her abuser. PRESS HERE to watch the video which has more than 1 million views. THEORY is encouraging anyone affected by domestic violence to call the National Domestic Violence Hotline (1-800-799-7233) for help.

Peeling back the layers of THEORY’s depth and breadth like never before, Say Nothing, recorded in London with producer Martin Terefe [Jason Mraz, Yungblud], is a continuation of their musical and thematic evolution, displaying the band’s powerful storytelling in full force and introducing fresh sounds and sonics. With undeniable anthems, scorching songcraft, experimental vision, rock ‘n’ roll attitude, and clever pop ambition, THEORY explores domestic violence, racism, the divisiveness in American politics, anxiety and depression, and more on the 10-track album.

Following a recent fall headlining U.S. run, THEORY embarks on a U.K. headlining tour beginning November 19th and will then travel throughout their native Canada at the top of 2020 to coincide with the release of Say Nothing, commencing January 31st in Vancouver.

THEORY’s platinum single “Rx (Medicate)” from 2017’s Wake Up Call addressed the opioid epidemic and racked up more than 250 million streams, became their third #1 on the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, and received an iHeartRadio Music Award nomination for Rock Song of the Year. Over the course of nearly two decades, THEORY’s impressive catalogue has earned them several platinum and gold singles, a platinum album, two Top 10 album debuts on the Billboard Top 200, and eight Top Tens on the Billboard Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks Chart. THEORY is: Tyler Connolly [lead vocals, guitar], Dave Brenner [guitar, backing vocals], Dean Back [bass], and Joey Dandeneau [drums].

Ali Gatie Unveils Debut EP “You” With A Billion Streams Behind Him

0

22-year-old Toronto singer and songwriter Ali Gatie has released his highly anticipated debut project YOU via Warner Records. With over 870 million cumulative streams under his belt, Ali Gatie’s YOU arrives on the heels of his aptly titled YOU short film, showcasing gorgeous consecutive vignettes of songs from the full project.

Ali also released the official video for “Say To You” from the project last Friday, which has been viewed over a million times. The success of his RIAA Gold Certified track “It’s You,” which has been streamed over 590 million times, affirmed his innate ability to connect with a growing critical mass on a global scale. “It’s You” also earned platinum certification in Canada and Australia and gold certification in the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Ireland, New Zealand, Finland, and Switzerland.

Establishing himself as one of the most compelling new singers and songwriters straddling the pop and R&B space this year, Ali Gatie goes deep on the big subjects that have always consumed great artists. On YOU, vulnerability, love, and devotion are concepts that Ali confronts head-on. These moments reveal themselves throughout the project like on the stand out “How Things Used To Be,” where he sings, “I wonder how you are, I wonder if you think of me, and when I’m all alone I think of how things used to be.” On the brooding “Holding On,” he comes clean about poor decisions in a previous relationship with the confession, “I made mistakes but baby so did you, we only did it out of innocence.” The openness and honesty are palpable and built on the stuff timeless songwriting is made of.

Ali Gatie’s rise has been chronicled by the likes of Billboard, Forbes, Complex, HYPEBEAST, Genius, and many more. Moreover, he has attracted a devout and diehard fan base, affectionately dubbed The LSN’ers, who not only fervently consume his music, but they hang on to every word (and post) on social media.

Today, the country trio opens a new chapter with the release of a brand new single, “Country Thunder.”

Clara Mae Premieres New Track “Unmiss You”

0

Swedish singer-songwriter Clara Mae returns today with “Unmiss You” – available now via Big Beat Records. Self-penned alongside Linnea Sodahl (Zara Larsson, Anne-Marie), Cassandra Ströberg (Felix Jaehn) and Daylight (Shawn Mendes, Fifth Harmony) the track is a glimmering heartbreak anthem that pairs Clara’s captivatingly smooth vocals with an upbeat bouncy instrumental.

“’Unmiss You’ is about wanting to erase all memories that you have with someone, even the beautiful ones, just to make the hurting stop” explained Clara of the track. “You wish you never met or fell for that person and never shared all those amazing moments – it would be so much easier.”

“Unmiss You” marks the third new release this year from Clara, following the Anton Rundberg-produced track “Lost” (which was featured on Entertainment Weekly’s summer pop playlist) and stunningly stripped back ballad “Loved You Once.” She also recently collaborated with Swedish artist JUNG for his single “Let Him Go” and toured in support of singer-songwriter Ella Vos in North America, in addition to European tours with singer-producer Alex Aiono and singer-songwriter Carlie Hanson.

2018 saw the release of Clara Mae’s debut EP Sorry For Writing All The Songs About You, which has amassed over 75 million worldwide streams thanks to standout tracks including “I’m Not Her” (praised as “a pop anthem” by Culture Collide),“I Forgot” (deemed “the perfect anthem” for running into an ex-flame by Refinery 29) & collaborative single “Better Me Better You” with Jake Miller (which the duo performed on the Elvis Duran Show and MTV’s TRL). Additionally, her stunning cover of Robyn’s “Call Your Girlfriend” has surpassed 15 million streams.

After spending years studying jazz vocals and piano in her small town of Gävle, Sweden, Clara Mae garnered attention by co-writing with the likes of David Guetta, Tiesto and Martin Jensen. She soon after co-wrote and featured on KREAM’s “Taped Up Heart,” which boasts over 130 million streams and reached the top 25 on Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart.

Ella Henderson Releases Brand New EP ‘Glorious’

0

Having returned last month with her first solo material in four years, multi-platinum-selling, BRIT Award nominee Ella Henderson has unveiled her ‘Glorious’ EP, the first collection of songs since her UK Number 1 debut album ‘Chapter One’ in 2014.

The ‘Glorious’ EP is Ella’s first release on her new label, Atlantic / Major Toms / Asylum, to which she was signed by Rudimental having toured with the band for 18 months as a live vocalist. A deeply personal labour of love, Ella spent the past year writing and recording the ‘Glorious’ EP in London and LA, and the end result is a four-track record that encompasses her journey of self-acceptance and reflects on deeply personal life events, while also highlighting her renowned vocals, which saw her shoot to global stardom at the tender age of 18-years-old.

Having released two tracks from the EP already – ‘Glorious’ and ‘Young’, which have collectively amassed over five million streams so far – the collection includes two further offerings; delicate piano ballad ‘Hold On Me’ and the R&B infused ‘Friends’.

Alongside the release of her latest solo material, Ella has also racked up a further 11 million streams with ‘This Is Real’, a recent collaboration with hit maker Jax Jones, which features on his star-studded new album ‘Snacks (Supersize)’. The track has been playlisted at Radio 1 and is currently No.6 in the UK iTunes chart. Ella has also joined forces with chart-topping producer Sigala on his latest song ‘We Got Love’, which was penned alongside her label mate, Anne-Marie.

What Goes Into Releasing An Artist’s Music Posthumously

0

George Michael is one of the latest musicians to have music released posthumously. A lot goes into how that music gets released, who profits and what players make it happen.

Tori Amos Announces New Book “Resistance: A Songwriter’s Story of Hope, Change, and Courage”

0

Resistance: A Songwriter’s Story of Hope, Change, and Courage, a timely and passionate call to action for engaging with our current political moment from the Grammy-nominated and multiplatinum singer-songwriter and New York Times bestselling author Tori Amos, has been announced for publication on May 5, 2020.

Since the release of her first, career-defining solo album Little Earthquakes, Tori Amos has been one of the music industry’s most enduring and ingenious artists. From her unnerving depiction of sexual assault in “Me and a Gun” to her post-September 11 album, Scarlet’s Walk, to her latest album, Native Invader, her work has never shied away from intermingling the personal with the political.

Amos began playing piano as a teenager for the politically powerful at hotel bars in Washington, DC, during the formative years of the post-Goldwater and then Koch-led Libertarian and Reaganite movements. The story continues to her time as a hungry artist in Los Angeles to the subsequent three decades of her formidable music career. Amos explains how she managed to create meaningful, politically resonant work against patriarchal power structures—and how her proud declarations of feminism and her fight for the marginalized always proved to be her guiding light. She teaches us to engage with intention in this tumultuous global climate and speaks directly to supporters of #MeToo and #TimesUp, as well as young people fighting for their rights and visibility in the world.

Filled with compassionate guidance and actionable advice—and using some of the most powerful, political songs in Amos’s canon—this book is for anyone determined to steer the world back in the right direction. You can pre-order it here.
