1

Starting today, YouTube Music is available to everyone in Canada. Now Canadian fans can find more of the music they love and effortlessly discover new favourites.

YouTube Music is a new music streaming service built on top of all the music on YouTube that you can’t find anywhere else – personalized & all simply organized in one place.

Here’s how it all comes together:

  1. It’s ALL here. Not just music videos, but official albums, singles, remixes, live performances, covers and hard-to-find music you can only get on YouTube.
  2. Recommendations built for you. A home screen that dynamically adapts to provide recommendations based on the artists and songs you’ve played before, where you are and what you’re doing. Chilling at the beach? Need some motivation? The right music is right here, built just for you.
  3. Thousands of playlists across any genre, mood or activity. Try “A Dose of Sun” for brighter tunes on a cloudy day, “The Pop Hotlist” for the biggest hits around the world or Distrito Latino for Latin pop hits of the moment.
  4. Smart search so we’ll find the song, even if you can’t remember what it’s called. “That space-themed Spice Girls song in the desert.” Here you go. You can also search by lyrics (even if they’re wrong). It’s “Hold me closer, Tony Danza,” right?
  5. The hottest videos. We’ll keep you on top of what’s hot! The hottest videos in the world right now are right there, on their own dedicated Hotlist screen. So you can go check out that brand-new Degrassi-themed Drake video.

Canadian Vocal Group Cadence Set To Release New Album, Home, On June 22

0

The stage lights fall, the crowd goes quiet, and four harmonious voices rise up and fill the air. The melodies unfurl into something both familiar and fresh. What comes next may be a classic song by Joni Mitchell or Louis Prima. It may be an old bebop standard or cheeky arrangement of a 1980s hit. But these are arrangements like you’ve never heard them before—containing all the richness of a full band, but performed using just four voices.

This is Cadence, Canada’s premiere vocal group. Based in Toronto, this a cappella ensemble has been wowing audiences across the country and around the world for nearly 20 years. Whether performing at sold-out jazz clubs and concert halls, at music festivals, for educational outreach, or for corporate functions, the members of Cadence bring an infectious energy and uncanny verve to every song they sing.

The group’s four critically acclaimed studio albums, Cool Yule (2011), Speak Easy (2010), Twenty for One (2005), and Frost Free(2000) have won or been nominated for numerous awards, including three nods from the JUNO Awards and 10 from CARA, the Contemporary A Cappella Recording Awards.

Cadence’s 5th studio album Home is nearly set for release this Friday. This album will be the first of its kind: all Canadian songs recorded using only the human voice. The four members of Cadence were born in four different provinces spanning from BC to PEI and this original song, “The Watcher On The Rock (Slhx̱í7lsh)” features elements from both coasts.

There is a rock in Stanley Park at the entrance to Vancouver Harbour that lies on the traditional territory of the Squamish Nation. The words for this song were inspired by a legend that tells of a young warrior who defied The Creator in his mission to ensure a spotless life for his unborn son. Impressed by his commitment to future generations, The Creators’s agents transformed the young man into an indestructible monument to Clean Fatherhood, the rock called Slhx̱í7lsh.

The musical arrangement is in the style of an epic 6/8 ballad and features elements often found in Maritime songs of this type with vocal parts that are stark, exposed, and broadly sung leaving room for the story to take centre stage. The accompanying video was shot at Irving Nature Park near St. John, NB.

Reuben And The Dark Announce North American Fall Tour

0

On the heels of a successful stint of U.S. tour dates, Reuben and the Dark have announced additional North American shows, including Chicago and Minneapolis.

The spirited folk-rock outfit recently released a new album, Arms of a Dream, out now on Arts & Crafts. The record finds songwriter/vocalist Reuben Bullock working outside his comfort zone, both musically and lyrically. The result is Bullock’s most vivid and transformative music to date: an intimate exploration of the inversion of imagination and reality in dreams.

“Dreaming” from the album debuted at #2 most added at AAA. Bullock, a semi-professional skateboarder, traveled to Barcelona to fulfill a childhood dream skating expedition in the breathtaking music video for the song. Reuben previously released equally stunning videos for “All or Nothing” and “Hurricane” from Arms of a Dream.

Reuben and the Dark has performed at many festivals, as well, including Sasquatch, Austin City Limits, Osheaga, Field Trip, and more. They’ve shared stages with Vance Joy, The Strumbellas, Boy & Bear, and The Paper Kites, to name a few. Wallace Detroit Guitars Announces Limited Edition ‘Firehouse Series’, Handcrafted With Reclaimed Wood From Iconic Detroit Firehouse

0

The new guitars are available now to coincide with the launch of Wallace Detroit Guitars’ new website, located at wallacedetroitguitars.com, and which features detailed photographs and specifications of each guitar. It also provides a deep dive into the remarkable origins and craftsmanship of these unique instruments, as well as availability and ordering information.

“Our goal with these guitars is to preserve the history of the city we love while honoring its tradition of superior craftsmanship,” says Wallace Detroit Guitars owner Mark Wallace. “Detroit is a community of people who know how to make stuff, and our company is cut from that same cloth. The firehouse at 250 West Larned Street served our city with honor for many years, and we are pleased to be able to preserve its history in this truly unique limited edition of instruments.”

For Wallace, these instruments mirror the revitalization of his beloved city, which is welcoming new ideas and creativity while continuing to draw from its rich past. “I’m trying to take something that was once great but has been and cast aside and transforming it into something new and vital,” he says. “It’s an exciting time for the city of Detroit because there are a lot of other businesses and organizations working from that same ideology. There’s really an energy building up.”

The firehouse building, located on 250 West Larned Street in downtown Detroit, stands on a site that has been in use by fire departments continuously since about 1840. The existing structure was built in 1929 after a design by Hans Gehrke, a leading Detroit architect during the pre-war era. Four large arches with massive red doors are the centerpieces of its iconic four-story brick and terra cotta façade. It was among the first firehouses in the city designed without accommodations for horses, which had been retired from service seven years earlier. After years of service as a fire station, the building would go on to serve as the long-time Detroit Fire Department headquarters until 2013. Conveniently located across the street from the Cobo Center, it is now being renovated for conversion into a boutique hotel.
Wallace was alerted to the cache of historic wood from the firehouse through his relationship with the Architectural Salvage Warehouse of Detroit, a non-profit organization that helps in the deconstruction of historic buildings in the city. “They care about the city just us as much as we do, so we’re always happy to support them in their efforts, which include providing jobs and training to locals as well as protecting historical resources,” says Wallace.

The first guitars released from the firehouse wood will be a pair made of pine and featuring a brand new offset body shaped, designed by Wallace Detroit Guitars. Eye-catching and comfortable to wear, the smoothly rounded dual ‘horns’ cut a classic profile on-stage or in the studio. “Pine is a lighter, softer wood with more air inside of it as compared to common guitar lumbers like ash or poplar,” says Wallace. “That allows it to resonate a bit more for a nice prolonged tone.” Pine has only begun to see wide use in guitar making within the last ten years, so these guitars present a unique opportunity to own a pine guitar with the sound and feel of vintage wood.

Wallace Detroit Guitars was also able to salvage enough maple from the firehouse to build an edition of ten single-cutaway guitars, the company’s signature body shape. Each wood is hand-finished with a hand-rubbed oil finish that preserves the wood’s natural look and protects it for years to come. The vintage maple lends the guitar a clear, bright attack with musical sustain perfect for any style of music. “The resins inside an older wood will have crystallized more and therefore be more stable, so these guitar will have a nice mature tone,” says Wallace.

All Wallace Detroit Guitars feature a neck built from maple sourced from Michigan forests and include a hand-cut bone nut. The pickups are hand scatter-wound in-house for a classic vintage sound. Each guitar will be engraved with a specially assigned serial number beginning with the numbers 313 for the area code of Detroit, followed by DFD for the Detroit Fire Department—also notably emblazoned above the building’s pedestrian doors—and finally an edition number. Like classic motorcycle parts, the butt of the neck and neck pocket are engraved with matching serial numbers as well to ensure that original components are traceable. Each guitar also ships with a one-of-a-kind hand-made guitar strap fashioned out of reclaimed car upholstery and a hard-shell leather case.

The King Returns – to Big Screens Worldwide – Special 50th Anniversary of Elvis Presley’s Iconic ”68 Comeback Special’ Hits Cinemas August 16 and 20

0

Elvis Presley’s legendary “’68 Comeback Special,” directed and produced by Steve Binder, will hit the big screen this summer in celebration of its 50th anniversary. The two-day cinema event will take place across the globe on August 16, with an encore screening on August 20. Each screening will include the legendary television special, plus an exclusive look at the making of the special, featuring a walkthrough of the NBC soundstage with insights from Binder and others influenced by Presley, his music and this iconic event.

Tickets for U.S. screenings of “ELVIS 50th Anniversary Comeback Special” can be purchased beginning Friday, June 15, 2018 at www.FathomEvents.com and participating theater box offices.

Fathom Events and ABG will present “ELVIS 50th Anniversary Comeback Special” in more than 500 select U.S. movie theaters on Thursday, August 16 and Monday, August 20 at 7:30 p.m. local time (both dates), through Fathom’s Digital Broadcast Network (DBN). A complete list of U.S. theater locations will be available June 15 on the Fathom Events website (theaters and participants are subject to change). International cinema locations and ticket-on-sale dates will be announced at a later date.

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of this legendary special, a new book by Steve Binder titled COMEBACK: The Making of the 1968 Elvis Special delves into the dynamic (and often intimate) performances by The King of Rock & Roll during the landmark “Comeback” NBC broadcast. The book features a dedication by Priscilla Presley and stunning catalog of iconic Elvis Presley imagery.

Originally airing on December 3, 1968, the “’68 Comeback Special” was Elvis Presley’s first live television performance in seven years, which captured him playing with a full band in front of an intimate audience of diehard fans. As part of the special, Presley also pioneered the “Unplugged” performance style with an exclusive acoustic set. The soundtrack album went Top 10 following the special airing, shooting Presley back to the top of the singles charts months later with “In the Ghetto” and later in 1969, his first number one hit in seven years with “Suspicious Minds.”
