Gibson Celebrates the Iconic Career of Peter Frampton with New Peter Frampton “Phenix” Les Paul Custom VOS

0

For the past 127 years, Gibson has been synonymous with creating and shaping sound. The new Gibson era celebrates the iconic models of the Gibson Golden Era while leaning into the future with inspiring instruments that nurture new players across generations, and genres of music. Gibson has announced it will celebrate the iconic Peter Frampton this year with the release of the new Peter Frampton “Phenix” Les Paul Custom VOS guitar from Gibson Custom Shop. Frampton has been a signature Gibson and Epiphone artist for over twenty-five years.

Frampton’s storied career began at 16 as the lead singer and guitarist for the British band The Herd. By 18, he co-founded one of the first supergroups – the seminal rock act Humble Pie. A multi-platinum-selling artist, his fifth solo album, Frampton Comes Alive!, remains one of the top-selling live records of all time with over 17 million copies sold worldwide. In 2007, he won the GRAMMY Award for “Best Pop Instrumental Album” for Fingerprints and in 2014 was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame.

His touring years have included work with a who’s-who of the top names in music, such as David Bowie, Stevie Nicks, Gregg Allman, Ringo Starr, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Cheap Trick, Steve Miller Band, Bill Wyman’s Rhythm Kings, and many others. Frampton’s session work includes collaborations with artists who have made their mark on the industry including George Harrison, Harry Nilsson, Jerry Lee Lewis, John Entwistle, Mike McCready, and Matt Cameron (Pearl Jam), among many others. His recently released memoir, Do You Feel Like I Do?, debuted on the New York Times Best Seller list.

“My brand-new Gibson Les Paul Custom VOS is here and boy is it good,” says Peter Frampton. “I couldn’t be more pleased with the look and sound. Gibson has gone that extra mile in every area to make this feel and sound the closest to my original, storied Phenix Les Paul Custom guitar. The neck and weight of this mahogany guitar will amaze you at how great it feels and how light it is (and it’s even a hair lighter than the Phenix). This is the real deal. Thank you, Gibson!”

“It was such a thrill and a privilege to work with Peter on this project,” says Mat Koehler, Head of Product Development at Gibson Brands. “Thanks to recent technology we were able to get the guitars to feel and sound closer than ever to Peter’s iconic original. The incredible craftspeople at Gibson Custom Shop are proud to honor Peter’s indelible legacy in music with these instruments. Each one is inspiring and magical like the man himself.”

King Of The Sea Shanty Nathan Evans Releases Original Song & Remix Of Global Viral Hit “Wellerman” Out Today

0

After kickstarting the sea shanty phenomenon that has swept the globe in recent weeks, one of the most exciting breakout stars of 2021, Nathan Evans today releases his debut track “Wellerman” and “Wellerman 220Kid & Killen Ted Remix” via Universal.

The genre is everywhere right now and it’s all down to Nathan that a new generation are discovering the thrills of fisherman-themed, multi-harmonised folk music. It all began when Nathan, from Airdrie, North Lanarkshire in Scotland, decided to start uploading songs to TikTok after completing his morning duties as a postman. The first track he shared was a cover of Leave Her, Johnny, the traditional Irish shanty that dates back to the early part of the last century. But what happened next was off the scale, with the video racking up eye-popping numbers. Something about this music and Nathan’s charismatic delivery connected in a big, big way.

By the time Nathan uploaded a rendition of the New Zealand whaling ballad The Wellerman a few months later, he was at the centre of a new cultural movement whirling around sea shanties. To date, he has over 500,000 TikTok followers and The Wellerman has amassed an astonishing seven million views and more. Now, taking his music career full time, he follows in the chart dominating footsteps of those he has always admired including Dermot Kennedy and Lewis Capaldi as well as finding unlikely fans in Andrew Lloyd Webber, Gary Barlow and Ronan Keating who have also uploaded their own renditions of the song alongside the current 1.6 billion videos using the hashtag #seashanty on TikTok.

He has begun an international love of sea shanties that have seen the craze sweep the globe, popping up in a variety of platforms from football posts to prime-time TV shows. UK producer 220 Kid’s remix of Wellerman became a viral sensation of its own, exploding out of Instagram and receiving radio plays from Radio 1’s Scott Mills, Nick Grimshaw and Capital Dance’s Mistajam. Ahead of its release, it’s already Top 20 in the Shazam chart.

Sea shanties have rocketed from cult tradition to a fevered mainstream concern. Everyone is doing it: Manchester City created their own sea shanty meme ahead of a league game against Crystal Palace and Jimmy Fallon and The Roots performed a sea shanty rendition of Olivia Rodrigo’s hit song Drivers License on Fallon Tonight. Nathan himself will perform a special version of The Wellerman, which is currently number five on Spotify’s global viral chart, as part of the BBC’s coverage of Manchester United v Liverpool’s FA Cup tie this weekend.

In a feature about how Nathan kickstarted this global trend, The Independent said, “The sea shanty frenzy has taken on a life beyond TikTok, even landing a spot on BBC Radio 4, and being Googled more than at any other time in history”. The Guardian wrote that sea shanties have “become something of a global online obsession” and the LA Times described how sea shanties have “taken over the internet”.

Lifting the spirits of those in the pandemic today Nathan says: “back in the day when the shanties were sung, it was to bring everybody together, to keep them all in time, to keep the morale high” and that’s exactly what he has done a century later.

Country Sensation Houston Bernard Lets Listeners In On New Single, “People We Are”

0

With well over 1.5 Million streams across platforms, Boston, MA’s Houston Bernard continues to croon his country and rockabilly roots in freshly pressed single, “People We Are” — available now.

True-blue country through-and-through, Bernard writes the majority of his own music, “but I’m always open to recording others,” Bernard shares of the new track penned by Nashville-based Billboard Top 20-charting songwriting powerhouse Cole Taylor (Jason Aldean, Luke Bryan, Chase Rice) and Kim Penz. “And when my manager asked me to listen to this song, I knew it was right for me.”

Known across previous album releases — including Knockin’ Boots (2015), Lucky Man (2018), and the self-titled EP, Houston Bernard (2013) — for upbeat, relatable music with powerhouse vocals, recent singles “People We Are” (2021), “The Drivin’” (2020) and “American Dream” (2020) further showcase the country gent’s timeless twang that transcends age and resonates far and wide.

Houston Bernard comes from a long line of country living — both musically, and otherwise. He has shared bills with Luke Bryan, Old Dominion, Granger Smith, Montgomery Gentry, Marshall Tucker Band, Clint Black, and more, and been featured across notable Spotify playlists, The Country Network, and The Heartland Network.

A direct descendent of the famous gunfighter George “Bittercreek” Newcomb — a ‘Most Wanted Man’ in the 1890s, and a member of the notorious ‘Wild Bunch’ (who inspired The Eagles hit, “Desperado”) — Bernard’s father and uncle were a local staple known as the Rebel Brother, playing in various country bands backing the likes of Tanya Tucker and Sleepy LaBeef.

“My dad’s family had a large farm in Norman, Oklahoma,” Bernard shares. “It was a small community at the time and my father was still going to a one-room school house. My dad told me that, when he was growing up on the farm as a small boy, they were still using an outhouse — only eventually putting their own plumbing and electricity in the home.

“It seems like that would be 100 years ago, but it was not.

“My Uncle Johnny Bernard made his entire life playing and writing country music until he passed in 2003,” Bernard offers, detailing his familial draw to the craft. “I’m coming from a long line of country musicians which, making a career of music is not an easy thing to do. I’m proud to carry the same ethics for hard work and outlook into both my life and my music.

“Quality over quantity.

“To me, the story in ‘People We Are’ upholds all the philosophies and ethics of the Bernard family, which I’m proud to represent,” he continues. “Growing up on the farm in Oklahoma, generation after generation… My dad’s family was all about the standards of doing the right thing, being self-sufficient, living within means, and building something that will stand the test of time.

“I think this song represents just that, and I hope others connect with it as I have.”

Catch the Season Finale of Acclaimed New Musical Fairy Tale Series, Outta The Books

0

The Land of Once Upon a Time is all abuzz; who will create the best song to save the Treasury of Tales? Acclaimed new musical fairy tale series Outta The Books concluded its first season this week with its seventh episode — available now!

Written by Canadian media icon Erica Ehm, the season one finale sees the librarian at the Treasury of Tales choose the winner of the “Once Upon A Tune Talent Contest.” But will the contestants themselves unfairly influence her decision? Only those who tune in to Outta the Books will find out.

Featuring an international team of musicians, producers, and actors, Outta The Books launched as a multi-platform entertainment series in November 2020. Originally set for a theatrical debut at the 2020 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the StorySongs creative team pivoted once the pandemic hit, and Outta the Books is now an entirely virtual multimedia experience for kids and families.

Outta The Books harnesses the power of music, the most universal of communicators, to tell simple, time-tested and meaningful tales, one StorySong at a time. Characters inspired by familiar fairy tales and fables come to life as they keep stories alive through song.

Alas, the world has nearly forgotten the joy and power of time-tested stories, and so The Librarian of the Treasury of Tales decides the best way to keep them alive is through music. She organizes a talent search, which attracts a motley crew of characters who perform their original songs, each based on a classic tale like Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, the Ugly Duckling, Emperor’s New Clothes, the Tortoise and the Hare, Snow White, and more. Some of the contestants are shy (the Blue Fairy), some are a little bit wicked (the witch Trixie and the wolf C-Major), some very talented but hopelessly vain (Prince Pollywig), and two are so talentless and self-involved that they are disqualified from the competition (Warble the Ogre and Princess Euphony).

StorySongs and Outta the Books are the brain children of award-winning composer and producer Brian Banks. Banks assembled an accomplished cast of theatre actors, including star Karl Queensborough (“C Major,” who comes from a line of Big Bad Wolves) and Carl Spencer (Prince Pollywig) from the current cast of the London production of “Hamilton” and others based in Britain, Canada and the United States. The Librarian (Annie Kirkman, an accomplished Yorkshire based musical theater actor and producer) hosts each episode.

The show has evolved into a cooperative, creative lockdown production, with Banks in Los Angeles, director Neil Fisher in Liverpool, and writer Erica Ehm in Toronto, with all involved in every shoot remotely via Zoom.

Singles from Outta the Books have been released, and the full cast recording will be available from all music sources on February 26th (which happens to be National Tell a Fairy Tale Day). A new season of Outta the Books adventures is in pre-production, and a podcast and children’s book are in the works.

Ziggy Marley, Oscar-nominated Yalitza Aparicio And Brazilian Stars Natiruts Encourage The Union Of The Americas In “América Vibra”

0

“No queremos hambre, nosotros somos vida. No queremos armas, nosotros somos paz. No queremos odio, nosotros somos amor,” Yalitza Aparicio recites in “América Vibra”

Kicking off the year with a powerful song and crying out for a better 2021, Brazilian band Natiruts invited one of the world’s greatest names in Reggae, Ziggy Marley, and Oscar-nominated Mexican actress Yalitza Aparicio to collaborate in “América Vibra.” More than a Reggae anthem, the song is a manifesto that calls on the peoples of the Americas to unite, demanding a world with more justice and love. At a time when duality and walls – both physical and structural – set us apart, “América Vibra” makes an urgent request for the bridging of barriers.

The song released on Wednesday 20th January, a symbolic day that marked an important change for the world, and the single radiates a desire for a more egalitarian continent.

Ziggy Marley says: “It’s a great pleasure to collab with Natiruts and Yalitza on this song “América Vibra”. My lyrics is talking about realizing what’s going on with the environment and wanting to see some justice in the world. If we don’t do anything, nothing is going to happen, so we have to do something. I have to do something, you have to do something – that’s what we’re talking about. If the future is not right, I will make it right. We can’t wait for somebody else to do it, we have to do it. We have to take care of the planet, take care of each other and just build a better world together. América vibra!”.

Composed by Alexandre Carlo and Ziggy Marley, and performed in Portuguese, English and Spanish, “América Vibra” is backed by an award-winning team: Felipe Tichauer, with 26 nominations for the Latin Grammy and the Grammy under his belt, is in charge of mastering; and mixing is handled by 10-time Grammy nominee Tony Maserati, one of the most successful sound engineers in the world, who has worked with artists such as Beyoncé, Ariana Grande, and Adam Lambert, among others. The song also features exclusive cover art by Kobra, one of the most renowned muralists of our day, with works in five different continents.

Directed by Rick Brombal, the music video is an exciting profusion of iconic images from the Americas (Brazil, Mexico, and the U.S.), encircled by nature, as in a kind of oasis, free from the hostile environment that surrounds them. In unison, Natiruts, Ziggy Marley, and Yalitza Aparício make an appeal for the union of peoples.

Natiruts lead singer Alexandre Carlo spoke about the context that led the band to vibrate for a fairer America: “There are invisible walls in society, created mainly by human relationships and experiences in the past that still affect our daily lives. In the case of Brazil, and especially the Americas, the main relationship that gives rise to these invisible walls is the colonization process, which favored some and greatly disfavored others.” He emphasizes the meaningful role of music in this process: “Music is a very important tool, because it changes the vibration frequency, people’s energy, it leads the hopeless to believe in their own potential. In this sense, music becomes quite important to tear down these invisible walls, and that is what our song proposes, and we hope that it can captivate the hearts and minds of many people, not only in Brazil, not only in the Americas, but in the entire world.”

“The importance of ‘América Vibra’ is to show that music has no boundaries and it’s a way to send messages of peace, just as unity makes us stronger in the face of adversity. When there’s respect among people, you can witness a real transformation,” actress Yalitza Aparicio explained. “I was thrilled when Sony invited me to participate, because I’ve always been a fan of reggae, I never believed that Ziggy and Natiruts could choose me to collaborate with them. I accepted immediately, albeit with fear, as being a part of this industry makes us targets to all kinds of criticism. I try to focus on the purpose of each project, because, as you know, I’ve always accepted the challenges that come to me, especially when they’re accompanied by such a strong and hopeful message,” she concluded.

In the future, the song will be part of the worldwide release of Natiruts new original project, which will be available on all digital platforms by early April. A well-established band that’s been around for more than 25 years, Natiruts’ compositions have the ability to speak of hope and positivity without falling into the trap of detachment.
