Award-Winning Singer/Songwriter JESSICA RHAYE & THE RAMSHACKLE PARADE Play First Live Show Since COVID-19 – Sept 26 Capitol Theatre

0

On Saturday, September 26th at the Capitol Theatre, award-winning Canadian singer/songwriter Jessica Rhaye & The Ramshackle Parade are set to celebrate the release of her highly acclaimed and sixth full-length album, Just Like A Woman – Songs of Bob Dylan — not to mention their first in-room live concert performance since the onset of COVID-19. Tickets are limited and available here.

Jessica Rhaye & The Ramshackle Parade will take the stage at the Moncton entertainment mainstay for a socially distanced show; while the theatre has a capacity for 750 seats, only 200 will be made available. Tickets are $26 and must be purchased in-person or by phone via the box office so proper spacing between ‘bubbles’ can be accommodated; the maximum size of a seating ‘bubble’ will be six.

Working within the ‘new normal’ of pandemic-related precautions will be worth it for audiences just to soak this release in; transcending expectations of a traditional ‘tribute album,’ Rhaye’s Just Like a Woman — Songs of Bob Dylan is a rollicking folk-rock interpretation of the famed artist’s classic songbook paired with hidden gems. The nine-track opus lands as engaging and inventive in its interpretations of the Master’s works, each with no click tracks and very few overdubs. The result is a collection of songs each at once retro- yet future-fitted with psychedelic undertones and folkie ballads only Rhaye and The Ramshackle Parade could relay.

“There is something about Bob Dylan’s songs we connect with,” says Rhaye. “The melodies and his simple ease of delivery… We feel like there’s an invitation, like it’s ok to feel they can be our songs.”

And ‘make them theirs,’ they do.

Dale Murray was the producer at the helm, and it was a free flow. All band members brought ideas to the floor, and imagined working in the style of Dylan in Woodstock, the days of the Basement Tapes and Big Pink, in the wake of the motorcycle crash.

“Dylan always approached production with a minimalist hand,” Rhaye continues. “The real people, the noises of the shirt buttons, chairs scraping the floor — mistakes being made — these were allowed to stay in the final tracks rather than cut out on the editing floor. These features always made his work accessible. You could always tell three were real people somewhere in a room playing these tunes together.

“That’s what we hope listeners take away from this record.”

Jessica Rhaye is an East Coast Canadian fixture; her dynamic 20 year career has garnered critical acclaim, awards from Music New Brunswick, and nominations from Canadian Folk Music Award and East Coast Music Award.

Just Like A Woman – Songs of Bob Dylan is Rhaye’s sixth full-length release, her second foray into production with Dale and the first with the backing of The Ramshackle Parade. “The music from this band flows naturally but is also derelict, delicate, and pure,” says Rhaye of the ensemble that includes a bevy of award-winning and highly accomplished artists in their own right: Chris Braydon, Sandy MacKay, Clinton Charlton, Bill Preeper, and Dale Murray. The band name is “borrowed and bent from a tune on Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros’ Streetcore album.

“It felt like a good fit for the sound we came up with while making this record.”

Just Like A Woman – Songs of Bob Dylan Track Listing:

Ring Them Bells
Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands
As I Went Out One Morning
I Dreamed I Saw St. Augustine
It’s All Over Now Baby Blue
One More Cup of Coffee
I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight
Blowin’ In The Wind
Lay Down Your Weary Tune

Just Like A Woman – Songs of Bob Dylan is available now.

Jessica Rhaye & The Ramshackle Parade are set to perform at Capitol Theatre this Saturday, September 26th at 8:00pm. Tickets are $26 and limited.

Bon Jovi Takes To The Streets Of New York Amid Pandemic For New Video “Do What You Can”

0

Well known for his extensive philanthropic work, Jon Bon Jovi spent the initial quarantine days and weeks helping feed those in need at his JBJ Soul Kitchen Community Restaurant in Red Bank, NJ. Calling himself the “hall-of-fame dishwasher” at the restaurant, Jon was captured by his wife Dorothea in a photo, which was later posted to social media with the caption “If You Can’t Do What You Do… Do What You Can.” The songwriter’s mind immediately went into action and a complete song was created the next day. The new single will be on the forthcoming album 2020, set for release October 2nd.

The lyrics to “Do What You Can” tell a poignant story and the video released HERE brings that story to life. As the pandemic shut down New York City, Jon took to the streets with mask in hand for an eyewitness account of the resilience and strength of everyday people facing a crisis the world hasn’t seen in our lifetimes.

“Shooting a video on nearly empty streets of Manhattan amid a global crisis really told the story of “Do What You Can” from the place where I lived it. And I know those empty streets look similar to so many parts of America battling this pandemic. But the story of everyday heroes showing amazing courage was inspiring to see and the video, much like the song, has a great deal of hope in it too.”

In the run-up to DETROIT 2’s arrival, Sean revealed exclusive DETROIT 2 themed merchandise available now HERE.

DETROIT 2 is the long-awaited successor to Detroit, (2012), Sean’s penultimate fourth career mixtape. That project, which was released nearly 8 years ago to the date of DETROIT 2, featured hip-hop A-list luminaries including French Montana (on “Mula”), J. Cole, Juicy J, Kendrick Lamar, King Chip, Royce da 5’9″, and Tyga.

Prior to DETROIT 2, all four of his albums – which also include Finally Famous, his RIAA platinum debut of 2011, and Hall Of Fame (2013) – debuted at #1 on the Rap chart.  I Decided. (2017) Sean’s second consecutive album to debut at #1 across-the-board on the pop, R&B/hip-hop, and Rap charts, following landmark RIAA platinum Dark Sky Paradise (2015). Twenty88, his 2016 collab with fellow G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam star Jhené Aiko, also debuted at #1 on the Rap and R&B/hip-hop charts.

In addition to his RIAA platinum albums, Big Sean’s track record boasts an impressive 15 platinum and multi-platinum hit singles, among them a trio of #1 urban radio staples: “Marvin Gaye & Chardonnay” (featuring Kanye West and Roscoe Dash, with over 45 million combined YouTube views); Kanye’s 4x-platinum “Mercy” featuring fellow Def Jam MCs Pusha T and 2 Chainz (over 200 million views); and the 5x-platinum “I Don’t Fuck With You” featuring E-40 (nearly 400 million views).

With over 43 million combined Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, and Soundcloud followers, and over 1.7 BILLION YouTube views since his signing to G.O.O.D. Music/Def Jam in 2007, Big Sean has become one of urban and rhythm radio’s most consistent hitmakers, and one of Def Jam’s major core artists.

Wide Mouth Mason Cooks Up ‘Stew’ For A Re-Release 20 Years Later

Multi-Gold selling and multi-JUNO Award nominated Canadian blues rockers Wide Mouth Mason announce the forthcoming 20th Anniversary reissue of Stew this November 27th, 2020. Set to be released as a limited edition LP by the band and their management, We Are Busy Bodies, the original album was released by Warner Music Canada and licensed to the band for the anniversary release.

“Stew was intentionally Wide Mouth Mason’s funkiest offspring,” original band member Shaun Verreault, along with Safwan Javed, recalls. “It showcased a specific subset of our musical influences, and was a mashup of musical styles passed through the filter of Wide Mouth Mason.”

“But it was also a case study for Wide Mouth Mason to better understand those musical styles,” Javed adds “We’d been listening to a lot of Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Jimi Hendrix’s Band of Gypsies, and the like. Meanwhile, our good friend Gordie (Johnson, Big Sugar), who produced it, was hipping us to bands like The Meters and The Gap Band. We dug in and deconstructed the component parts of records that were undeniably funky.”

Inspired by the tunes and arrangements on those records, Wide Mouth Mason honed in on the audio ingredients to utilize. “Drums that were punchy and taut, almost 808-like, the bass ran simultaneously through a bass amp, and a little guitar amp hanging on for dear life,” Verreault muses. “We made falsetto harmonies — almost like horn parts — a recurring theme, and broadened the sonic palette with some keyboard parts by Gordie, and a string section.”

“Though we’d plotted a defined sonic mission statement, there was a lot of room for happy accidents and spontaneous invention,” Javed says. “They were fun, funny, joyful sessions.”

First formed in 1995 in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Wide Mouth Mason most recently released the band’s eighth studio offering, 2019’s I Wanna Go With You, which has been nominated for a 2020 Western Canada Music Award.

As for WMM History 101, while their 1996 breakthrough debut The Nazarene immediately drew interest and attention from industry and fans alike, it was their Gold-selling and JUNO Award-nominated self-titled followup a year later that launched their trajectory as one of the country’s most popular blues-based rock bands.

And the hits kept coming: Wide Mouth Mason appeared twice at Switzerland’s Montreux Jazz Festival, toured with AC/DC, ZZ Top and the Rolling Stones, 1999’s release Where I Started hit certified Gold-status, and 2000’s release Stew delivered their second JUNO Award-nomination for Best Rock Album.

Stew and its 20th Anniversary Edition is set for reissue this November 2020 with tour dates to support when possible. Special online performances to celebrate the anniversary are in process. The reissue will be available from the band and the We Are Busy Bodies web store. It has been remastered for vinyl by Dany Laj.

The SOCAN Foundation’s Equity X Production Mentorship Program

0

I just wanted to let you know about The SOCAN Foundation’s Equity X Production Mentorship Program, striving to address the lack of diverse representation among producers. The Equity X Production Mentorship Program was developed in response to research conducted by the Annenberg Inclusion Initiative. In 2019, the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative released a report that identified that women make up only 2.1% of producers throughout the top 100 hundred Billboard songs annually from 2012 to 2018. That report also validated that women producers are underrepresented 47 to 1 by male producers in the data analyzed.

Up to 25 women and gender minorities will be selected to participate in a six-course webinar series with small group mentorship sessions. This six-week program will take place virtually on a biweekly basis starting on September 22nd, 2020 (Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:00-6:30pm EST). Participation in the entirety of the program is mandatory
