Stompin’ Tom Connors Unreleased Songs From The Vault Collection Volume 3 To Be Released December 7

0

Anthem Legacy, an imprint of ole label group, continues the rich musical legacy of Stompin’ Tom Connors with the release of Unreleased Songs From The Vault Collection Volume 3 on December 7, 2018. The Canadian musical icon passed with 120 recordings in what he referred to as “The Vault”, in order to safeguard against the possibility that he should at some point find himself unable to continue in the studio. 14 new tracks from this collection will be available featuring special guest artists: JUNO Award-winners The Sheepdogs, CCMA Award-winners The Washboard Union, JUNO Award-winning fiddle virtuosos Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy, JUNO Award-winners The Good Lovelies, JUNO Award nominee Royal Wood and Human Kabab.

“These songs are a collection that Tom recorded in 2011-2012 before his passing, and are some of his favorite songs he performed by request before he was known as Stompin’ Tom,” said Tom Connors Jr. “Tom wanted to make sure that many of the old country songs he grew up listening to are not to be forgotten. He put these songs in “The Vault” in hopes that others can enjoy or even record them for themselves one day, to help keep traditional Country music alive and well for generations to come.”

The songs included in the Stompin’ Tom – Unreleased Songs From The Vault Collection Volume 3 are written by some of Tom’s favourite singer-songwriters that inspired him over the course of his life and career. Classics including: Hank Williams’ “So Lonesome I Could Cry” feat. The Washboard Union, Russ Morgan’s “Cruising Down The River” feat. The Good Lovelies and Don Gibson’s “Oh, Lonesome Me” feat. Royal Wood, are covered by Stompin’ Tom with his signature vocal style and guitar.

With his home spun and fiercely patriotic brand of music, Stompin’ Tom’s legacy includes Canadian country hits: “Bud the Spud”, “Luke’s Guitar”, “Sudbury Saturday Night”, “Big Joe Mufferaw”, “Ketchup Song” and Canadian anthem “The Hockey Song”. Stompin’ Tom’s accolades include JUNO Awards for Best Male Country Singer (1971 – 75) and Country Album of the Year (1978), the East Coast Music Awards Lifetime Achievement Award, SOCAN National Achievement Award (1999), SOCAN Lifetime Achievement Award (2009), the Governor General’s Performing Arts Award (2000), Toronto Musicians’ Union Lifetime Achievement Award (2011), was recently inducted into Canada’s Walk of Fame (2017) and the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2018 for “The Hockey Song”.

High Music Streams Are the Ultimate Vanity Metric in 2018

0

The word streaming has still got some left confused about its meaning. It refers to either listening to songs or watching the video ‘real-time’ instead of watching it later.  Music Streaming is all about listening to your favourite song without having to download them. Examples of a few services include Spotify, Pandora, Apple Music etc. It doesn’t matter on which device you are listening to songs as they are universally compatible and so can be played on any device.

Basically, the number of plays is fairly considered as an indicator of an artist’s success or failure. But given the importance and impact that data has on the business, the concept of engagement plays a more important role rather than just the plays. But why is music streaming considered as an ultimate vanity metric? And for beginners, what does vanity metric refer to? Vanity metric refers to measuring those things that are not relevant. These are the figures that do not have a direct bearing on the success of the business.

  • Reason 1: Presumptions rule
  • Reason 2: No direct correlation between streaming and engagement
  • Reason 3: Plays vs Engagement

Reason 1: Presumptions rule

On any of the music streaming websites, it is a natural human tendency to assume that any song with a high number of plays to be top-rated and we also click on those songs to catch a whiff of the same. This, in turn, prompts the artist to assume that the listeners care about his/her music which in fact, may not be true. It is quite a Herculean task to convert random listeners into your fans when you are the artist.

Reason 2: No Direct Correlation between streaming and engagement

In this case, engagement refers to how many songs of yours do the listeners listen to fully and save, the replay rate etc which are quite more important than the number of users who have listened to that one song of yours. In most cases, we find that most listeners drag and drop songs into their playlists but would also hardly be able to recollect the artist names.

Reason 3: Plays Vs Engagement

Plays are vanity metrics and most decision makers at these media houses engaged in streaming choose to prioritise engagement overplays as they cannot be artificially induced unlike in plays. Having a good number of plays is no guarantee for an artist’s success these days in an industry where artists taste success only after a lifetime of struggles.

Also, there goes the famous quote, “Opportunities don’t often come along, so when they do, you have to grab them!” The above-garnered points are the three main reasons as to why High Music Streaming is a vanity metric by Jackpot Fruity which is currently one of those best casino offering table games providing an amazing offer for casino players. The trends change every time. Today, music streaming may be considered as a vanity metric, but tomorrow it could set the stage for something more bigger and better!

Steve Mason shares “Walking Away From Love”, the latest track from his forthcoming album, About The Light

Steve Mason is sharing “Walking Away From Love”, the latest track to be taken from his forthcoming new album, About The Light, which is out on Double Six on Friday January 18th, 2019.

“Walking Away From Love” follows the first track to be taken from the album, “Stars Around My Heart”.

About The Lightis his fourth solo album following Boys Outside (2010), Monkey Minds In The Devil’s Time(2013) and Meet The Humans (2016). Having written most of his previous albums alone, About The Light marks a change in approach for Steve.

“I decided with this album that I wanted to get my live band involved at every stage because I wanted to capture the energy that we produce when we play live shows, so this time the band and myself worked on a collection of songs over the course of last year,” he explains.

Picking Stephen Street to produce the album, and with a very clear plan in mind, from the off the goal was to capture the songs live and draw out their soulful elements. Recorded at studios in London and Brighton, About The Light, sees a subtle yet noticeable evolution in Steve’s sound.

“When I listen to this album it feels and sounds like the first ‘legitimate’ record that I have ever made. It’s hard to explain but it sounds like a ‘real’ album. I think that is partly the production, the playing and the work that I did with the band for all those months in our rehearsal room on the South Coast,” says Steve.

“It’s a beautiful, confident, positive, angry, loving and gentle album which once again moves what I do forward,” he adds. “David Bowie said that you should always be slightly out of your comfort zone if you want to achieve greatness, and for the first time perhaps ever, I deliberately pushed myself into that place. Who doesn’t want greatness?”

Steve Mason live dates are below.
30.01.19 – Riverside – NEWCASTLE
31.01.19 – SWG3 – GLASGOW
01.02.19 – Belgrave Music Hall – LEEDS

How to play an ancient rock gong

0

The British Museum invited Dr. Cornelia Kleinitz, an archaeologist specialising in rock art, and Liam Williamson, a modern rock drummer, to try and discover how a rock gong might have been played. This was the result. Rock gongs are a type of lithophone that were used for thousands of years in several parts of Africa. They may have been used as part of rituals, to signal other people, or as a form of expression. Although they look like plain boulders, they have a hollow, metallic sound when struck due to the composition of the rock.

Leonard Bernstein, The greatest 5 minutes in music education

0

This amazing lecture series (The unanswered Question), is actually an interdisciplinary overview about the evolution of Western European classical music from Bach through the 20th century crisis and beyond a bit. Bernstein uses linguistics namely Chomskian Linguistics to provide a framework to illustrate how music and all the arts evolved toward greater and greater levels of ambiguity/expressivity over history until the 20th century crisis. He manages this impressive feat of popular education by dividing music into; Phonology (the study of sound); Syntax (the study of structure) and; Semantics (the study of meaning).

Transmission: An Animated History of Joy Division’s Unknown Pleasures Pulsar

0

Joy Divison’s Unknown Pleasures is still one the great debut albums of all time. Peter Saville, who had previously designed posters for Manchester’s Factory club in 1978, designed the cover of the album, and guitarist Bernard Sumner chose the image used on the cover, based on an image of radio waves from pulsar CP 1919, from The Cambridge Encyclopaedia of Astronomy. Saville reversed the image from black-on-white to white-on-black and printed it on textured card for the original version of the album. It is not a Fourier analysis, but rather an image of the intensity of successive radio pulses, as stated in the Cambridge Encyclopaedia. The image was originally created by radio astronomer Harold Craft at the Arecibo Observatory for his 1970 PhD thesis.

And now, here’s the fun history, in animation!
